That hole in the intake is where the pony motor exhaust pipe was to heat the air coming through the intake so that the diesel engine would have an easier time of starting.

I came to say the exact thing. They can also protect the cut wood under it. That thing is huge, and the future overhang can protect the tractor, quad and truck and jeep.
You should put your WoodMizer in the building. It would be perfect. 😊 Build another deck on the footings and set the mill right on there.

Whoever built those little concrete walls under the shed definitely knew what he was doing!
Don't fear the mag there are 4 screws that hold the mag cap off the points are just likevin a distributor couple licks with a point file. Ods are yhe points are dirty

The out building cover provides a huge area to set up a sawing mill or any other utility shelter. Came with the bought property but a major plus. Looks like the farm's making major changes.

You need to find a place to put them cement footers they would make a great burn pit. They would reduce your chances of a fire living in the wood.

Now retired. We had professional ‘people’ jobs and have been together for 60 years. In the U.K. Land for a life (small holding) such as yours is scarce and very very expensive if found so we gave up a preference! We started as companions like you and still are so blessed. I agree with the many comments to fix the original pony motor. The pony motor will preheat the main Deisel making it much easier to start. Clean the magneto inside contacts and recheck for spark. You may also need to clean the carburetor if it’s been sitting long. In the video, it appears that you were spraying the pony motor exhaust opening with ether, that won’t help it start. Watch some videos or ask for help on the proper starting Oder for your dozer. Once that pony motor runs for 10-30 minutes it should heat the main engine and start in the coldest weather. Good luck!

That shed is a great thing to have. Having it already built, and it is fairly large, more important, looks to be in good shape. Good job on the cleanup, looks so much better

Great start with some help trying to figure out the pony motor issues as well as trying to start the beast.
(1) Starting with propane looked sketchy. At least have a fire blanket or suitably sized extinguisher handy or close by.
(2) Find a simpler method to easily maintain pony auxiliary blue motor belt tension. Bracket with ratchet strap, wedge, lever.
(3) Source a replacement pony motor coil/condenser/alternator/generator. This way you can test and confirm spark.
(4) When not in use find a removable plug for hole in pony exhaust/heater bypass. You don't want critters, debris and water getting in.
(5) Check fluid levels. Top up as required.
(6) Replace radiator with used or new equivalent. Same for suspect hoses and clamps. Add sufficient coolant as required.
(7) Verify no air intake/filter blockages. Clean as required.
(8) Ensure muffler(s) tops are covered when not used.
(9) Check and replace oil filter and oil as required.
(10) Confirm all fuel lines are functional and bled. No vapor blocks.
(11) Remove, clean and replace glow plugs. Spray diesel or oil into each cylinder. To minimize rust. Free or unseize stuck components.
(12) On a warmer day, try starting. Without insulting anyone, best to work with a seasoned diesel mechanic or veteran farmer who has intimate work experience on similar equipment. Save time, money, guesswork, trial and error.
(13) Need some work tools, spares.
Some of that rotten wood would be good for raised beds or compost. Determine best use for shed: tools, equipment out of the elements, work area, barn storage.
We laughed and so enjoyed the concrete block trial, but you guys do not give up. We love this TH-cam

Since you can start the dozer by pulling it, the makeshift pony motor probably has a too low gearing to spin the main engine fast enough. It's probably easier to fix the original one's ignition

@penderkev is exactly correct it uses the exhaust from pony to heat intake air for the big motor. Takes heat to get a diesel to run. I noticed when he had the torch on the intake...it was burning the diesel (Black Smoke) check the big motor compression😕!!
Those forks on the tractor are proving so valuable. It will be so useful if someday you will be able to use the cat with out all the hassle. You'll get it all figured out, you both have such a great can do attitude ❤
and drill a hole in one of the tines and put trailor hitch ball there for when you may need one.
The magneto could well be bad but the more likely, faster and cheaper item to check first is the points. They should be under the distributor cap and rotor. They switch the magneto connection to the coil to trigger the spark and are prone to corrosion when they sit for long periods. You can clean them with medium grit sandpaper or a fingernail emery file if you don’t have a points file.
Shouldn’t need ether at all. The beauty of the pony motor is you can turn the main engine as long as it takes to build oil pressure in the main. Also will actually bring main up to temp as the pony exhaust pre heats main engine intake
The hole in the intake manifold is for the exhaust from the pony motor. The pony motor exhaust pipe runs the length of the diesels intake manifold, the heat from the exhaust preheats the air for the diesel, easing cold weather starting. You need to make sure that this exhaust pipe hasn’t rusted out, if it’s leaking exhaust into the diesels intake manifold it won’t start.

that part that is broken off is the exhaust of the Poney motor to preet heat motor intake . an one of the levers on the side is a decompression lever so the Poney motor can worm the engine first

Time to subscribe to FarmCraft101 - the guy on that channel works on machines like these and goes into depth when he works on them. Right now he's working on a small bulldozer that really is TOASTER STRUDELED as you put it... but bit by bit he's been bringing it back to life. It just isn't worth the money it would take to replace all the worn out parts - BUT he finds solutions.

I leave my backhoe on in the winter for the weight. You might have picked up the concrete if you had more weight in the back. Turn the plow blade into a front attachment and put the backhoe on. I bet it would plow good.
Hi guys. That would be a great place for a workshop. I'm not sure how you feel about making a concrete floor on it. But you could have a multi-shop for welding, sawing, fixing your mechanical issues and storing like Katy said for your hay at one end or the other end depending how you view it. Yeah, oh yeah that is a huge place. Lots of room in there. Garage/ workshop. Do think about having a concrete floor put in. You don't have to do it all at once. You can make it in sections at a time. Just keep it level all the way across. But pouring concrete is hard and heavy work. But once it's set the multi use would pay itself off. Just an idea or NOT. What ever you decide is great. Magneto may just need a good cleaning, common for them to get a bit rusty or corroded from sitting.
Nice to see you folks are trying to figure out the issue with the bulldozer, hope that is found as it would be a handy machine. maybe some of your viewers can help that know this beast. awesome work cleaning up the old saw mill structure, makes less work come spring looks great folks . If you put in the time on that dozer, it would reduce the wear and tear on your tractor transmission. That dozer is well worth it to get it running. Find a good dozer mechanic who will help you out.

Nice clean up job in the mill shed. It will prove to be useful. Disappointed with the bulldozer project. Pony motor is good and obviously turning over the diesel. There should be a clutch mechanisim for engaging the pony motor without having to pull on it. You need to look at the diesel fuel system. If the fuel is old, drain it and add fresh fuel. Make sure the fuel has winterizing treatment to prevent gelling. Is the fuel getting to the fuel rack? Are the glow plugs working? You may need a new battery for the glow plugs. If you are getting fuel to the cylinders and the glow plugs are working it should run. A block/intake heater would be really helpful. Unless the fuel pump is out of aligment it should run with out having to pull start it. Good luck to you. Really want to see the old girl run again.

There's usually two levers by the pony motor one kicks in the diesel motor and the other one disengage the compression
Diesel fuel gels up at that temperature, it will never start if that happens. Add an anti gel fuel additive to the diesel. Also a small propane turbine heater aimed at the engine for an hour will greatly assist in starting in those frigid temperatures.
She says "if it's really cold".... at 15 degrees Katie, IT IS REALLY COLD!
If you are going to pull start. You need to be in your highest gear.
