  • Florida State Seminoles coach Mike Martin reflects on his 40-year coaching carrer with FSU coming to a close after a loss to the Texas Tech Red Raiders in the College World Series. Martin says ending your career at the CWS is where you want it to end and that the main thing he wanted to teach the players was to always play as hard as you can. Martin praises the Red Raiders for being the better team and moving on in the CWS.

"Be yourself know yourself accept yourself" same exact words he told me back in 2007 when I was a high schooler at his baseball camp. Never played for the man but he was a great coach. Congrats coach Martin

@@RobbieStacks90 true. If someone told me hey, we want you to coach NCAA baseball for this long and you'll win a bunch of games and go the CWS time and time again but you'll never win a championship. I'll take that job. Baseball is hard enough even to have atleast 40 wins per season. Theres coaches and players that dont even last half a season that I would have trade in a heartbeat with them. It's just the love for the game.

I couldn't be more proud to consider myself a Seminole. The one major thing I've always thought that separated us from the rest of them was who we have had at the helm. I mean just think about it. Our school has had 2 coaches who at one time had the most wins in their respective sports. I mean....who gets that lucky? Well we did. Coach Bowden helped build this University into one of the premiere athletic schools in the country. We had him for 38 years. We broke records and have streaks that will likely never be broken or even sniffed for as long as these games are played. And in the shadows of Doak Campbell we had Mike Martin over seeing one of the greatest baseball programs that the NCAA has ever seen. The man didn't fall short of 40 wins in a season. Not one time. He never missed a post season during his whole entire tenure at Florida State. Once again. Who is lucky enough to witness all of this.....We were. While 11 may have never gotten the big one in the way we view it. The fact is that HE is the big one. He embodies everything college athletics should be. And he did it that way for 40 years at the helm. I just can't believe how lucky I personally have been as a Nole throughout my lifetime to have experienced everything I have been able to experience. I put on my Seminole garb with pride every single time. And not because I have represented our University. Yet it is because of how the leaders of our programs have represented this University. With every ounce of respect and dignity that you could ever ask for. I end the night with a tear running down my face. And I can't really tell if it's a tear of sadness or a tear of joy to be honest. All I know is that I have been so fortunate to have lived through the era of Seminole sports that I have. And I hope all of you feel the same way. I hope you all understand how rare it is to have lived though what we lived through. It truly is a once in a lifetime experience. 11 THANK YOU for everything. Not just the wins, or the world series appearances. But for the way you did it. Your way. And I wouldn't have had it any other way my friend. You Sir are a legend. You are one of a kind. You were the personification of greatness on and off the field. You will be remember by the school you loved and lived for.....forever. Long Live #11

One of the biggest choke artist coaches in sports history. The talent he’s had is an embarrassment of riches. Still, no title. It’d be like Bill Belichick having Brady and everyone yet not winning a Super Bowl.
