You have just witnessed Gilmour opening the heavens and baring his soul. One of my greatest enjoyments is folks like you experiencing this video for the first time. Every time I watch this, I get goosebumps and well up with emotion. There is no wonder this is considered one of the greatest sets of solos up to now.

I was at that concert. Everyone in the audience was in awe during that whole solo. Even in the parking lot after the concert, everyone was still in awe from that EPIC performance. I was lucky enough to have been to a lot of their concerts. All of them are laser light type shows. David Gilmour is a master at making you feel so many emotions from his playing of his guitar. Did you notice how relaxed he was during that whole solo? He could have been sitting in his recliner chair in his living room, he was so calm and relaxed.

to compare gilmour´s solo to a singer´s voice is remarkably thoughtful and accurate. gilmour never boasts with fast pentatonic finger-runs, like most guitarplayers do. every single note is composed like a vocal melody.

At 12 years of age I heard Another Brick in the Wall Part 2 and liked it but didn't really get into Floyd until I was 18 or 19 (1988-89). That is when I remember hearing Comfortably Numb for the first time and my reaction to Gilmour's guitar sound was "I've never heard a guitar hit those high notes before and the sound is unique too but it is like the guitar is singing. You don't even need lyrics it is like having another member performing."

I am in my 50s so I grew up with all this great music. It has always been a part of my life, I cannot imagine not knowing it. But I am a little jealous of people just discovering it for the first time as well. My favorite Pink Floyd song is "Shine On You Crazy Diamond". There is a shorter version th-cam.com/video/cWGE9Gi0bB0/w-d-xo.html and long version th-cam.com/video/8UXircX3VdM/w-d-xo.html. Both are great. Written about a founding member of Pink Floyd who suffered from mental illness and the other band members dealing with their sadness over how much he had changed over the years falling deeper into his illnesses.

I was kinda young, and I was at this concert! And this solo was literally HISTORICAL! The COLOSSAL, EXTREMELY MASSIVE, REALLY IMPOSING, AND EPIC PINK FLOYD MACHINE! ... Phenomenal! Everyone was speechless at the end of this solo. We were all high on emotion and completely blown away, really. This concert was really impressive and imposing; the stage was just ... HUGE!!! At the end of the concert, we all were looking at the stage, trying to keep and bring all those fantastic and incredible "Pink Floyd feelings" with us. It was literally a unique and fantastic journey. It's "printed" in my brain for the rest of my life.

Just a quick side note, this Pulse album version is an edited solo, it clips over a minute out of the original, and the full version is around on YT if you ever want to hear it. Also, to Floyd fans a Dave Gilmour solo is sacrosanct and you may find some complaining if you talk over, interrupt, or pause it, even if just to express appreciation! Peace and love man

Guitar playing is not about widdle, widdle, wankery seeing how many notes you can play in a second. It's about feeling, how much emotion you can put into a few notes. Thats why Gilmour walks away with the prize every time.

So cool to see you do the live version; it truly gives an insight into the full stage glory of Floyd. They are a multi-sensory band, and I always left their gigs, overfed on everything that was show craft & music, feeling extra good & filled on every level. As I've said elsewhere, please, & now I'm sounding like a broken record, but PLEASE, react to the man w/the 5-octave voice, the Metal God, Rob Halford, vocalist, & his band Judas Priest. You've already said you are going to react to Priest, so choosing the first song is important, and to enter Priest's catalogue, this is the perfect starting place, w/nearly 50yrs u7nder their belts. Please, listen 'Dreamer/Deceiver' & 'Deceiver'. They show his 5-octave voice off perfectly, in every guise, and hint at what is to come. As a great singer yourself (your little licks & flicks & copies you do, priceless) you will be not only amazed at his ability, but also find it hard to keep up. That's it, begging done (for the time being). As always, I send you, you marvellous man you, UK love, friendship & respect.

Btw, the song is not about heroin. The album ”The Wall” is a concept album and a movie and it can be hard to understand by watching the movie but it boils down to a man losing his mind. Now granted he is given drugs (which could be heroin & probably was) before he had to go on stage! Also they haven't changed band members throughout the eras Sid B. left and David Gilmour came in in the 60’s other than that Rodger Waters left the group and that's that! No more changes! JS

More about the music is about: (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wall)
Pink is a rock star, one of the many reasons which have left him depressed. Pink imagines a crowd of fans entering one of his concerts, and we begin a flashback on his life, and it is revealed that his father was killed defending the Anzio bridgehead during World War II, in Pink's infancy ("In the Flesh?"). Pink's mother raises him alone ("The Thin Ice"), and with the death of his father, Pink starts to build a metaphorical wall around himself ("Another Brick in the Wall, Part 1").
Growing older, Pink is tormented at school by tyrannical, abusive teachers ("The Happiest Days of Our Lives"), and of these traumas become metaphorical "bricks in the wall" ("Another Brick in the Wall, Part 2"). As an adult now, Pink remembers his oppressive and overprotective mother ("Mother") and his upbringing during the Blitz ("Goodbye Blue Sky"). Pink soon marries, is about to complete his "wall" ("Empty Spaces"). While touring in America, he turns to a willing groupie ("Young Lust"). After learning of his wife's infidelity, he brings the groupie back to his hotel room, only to trash it in a violent fit of rage, terrifying the groupie out of the room ("One of My Turns"). Pink, depressed, thinks about his wife, and feels trapped in his room ("Don't Leave Me Now"), and dismisses every traumatic experience he has ever had as a "brick" in the metaphorical wall ("Another Brick in the Wall, Part 3"), Pink's wall is now finished, completing his total isolation from human contact ("Goodbye Cruel World").
Immediately after the wall's completion, Pink questions his decisions, ("Hey You"), and locks himself in his hotel room ("Is There Anybody Out There?"). Beginning to feel depressed, Pink turns to his possessions for comfort ("Nobody Home"), and yearns for the idea of reconnecting with his personal roots ("Vera"), Pink's mind flashes back to World War II, with the people demanding that the soldiers return home ("Bring the Boys Back Home"). Returning to the present, Pink's manager and roadies have busted into his hotel room, where they find him drugged and unresponsive. A paramedic injects him with drugs to enable him to perform ("Comfortably Numb").
This results in a hallucinatory on-stage performance where he believes that he is a fascist dictator, and that his concert is a Neo-Nazi rally, at which he sets brownshirt-like men on fans he considers unworthy ("In the Flesh"). He proceeds to attack ethnic minorities ("Run Like Hell"), and then holds a rally in suburban London, symbolizing his descent into craziness ("Waiting for the Worms"). Pink's hallucination then ceases, and he begs for everything to stop ("Stop"). Showing human emotion, he is tormented with guilt and places himself on trial ("The Trial"), his inner judge ordering him to "tear down the wall", opening Pink to the outside world ("Outside the Wall"). The album turns full circle with its closing words "Isn't this where ...", the first words of the phrase that begins the album, "... we came in?", with a continuation of the melody of the last song hinting at the cyclical nature of Waters' theme.

Amazing concert! I went to see them live on this tour in Atlanta, Georgia and Washington, D.C. and both shows we're the best live shows I've ever seen to date and let's just say I've been to a LOT of concerts and I've seen some of the most amazing and iconic artist of the 80’s 90’s into the 2000s, I actually also went to see Rodger Waters perform ”The Wall” in Atlanta, Georgia in 2013 I believe it was 2013 and although the stage show was very special and rumored to be the most expensive at that time It just couldn't compare to Pink Floyd with the original members (minus Rodger Waters) and no one can compare to David Gilmour and his iconic guitar solos, especially during Comfortably Numb! When that big mirrored ball lit up the crowd went crazy & that and all the other special effects are just out of this world and something that can't be reproduced even on the highest quality video, you just had to be there! Even someone who wasn't a PF fan would've enjoyed the show! Now to tell you how versatile I am, my next concert will be Dimash in New York on December 10th and I expect an exceptional show from him as well, He is definitely going to be an icon bc he is hands down the best vocalist in the world and a exceptional performer/storyteller/musician! I made this comment before even watching your reaction so I'm about to do that now & I hope you enjoy it. I have a feeling you will! Sneding much love to The Greatest Reactor! ❤️

This was epic. Another amazing guitarist is Derek Trucks. He is highly regarded as the guitar virtuoso of our time. Check out Tedeschi Trucks Band "Midnight in Harlem" live from Crossroads Festival. His wife is the lead singer and she has an amazing voice I think you would appreciate. Believe me. I am DYING to see your reaction.

David Gilmour is like #6 on the Rolling Stone list of greatest guitarists. If you haven’t done Pink Floyd’s songs Time or Dogs yet please check them out for more incredible guitar work. There is a reason this band has sold over 250 million albums. Dark Side of the Moon was on the Billboard Top 200 for like 15 years straight. That’s YEARS, not a typo.

This version differs from the recorded version when one of the founding members, Roger Waters, left the band. Roger sung the first and third parts of this songs. In this video, those duties are covered by Rick Wright and Guy Pratt the bassist who replaced Roger.

I like you guys but was confused. While you were both merrily chatting away for ages during the song was there one of the greatest guitar solos of all time going on
IN THE BACKGROUND ?? I think there was but it was hard to tell while you kept the chat going until, mercifully, you stopped 1/2 way thru' the solo....:)

    It wasn't at "pulse".
This concert was held at Earl's Court, London UK. 'Pulse' is what they titled the album this came from. It refers to the heartbeat backtrack of the album, 'Dark Side of the Moon', which they played here in it's entirety.

You don't listen to Pink Floyd, you experience it. Nobody better than Gilmour at using a guitar to make you feel emotions, but if you like some old fashioned shreddin' you should also check out Stevie Ray Vaughan's Voodoo Chile and Texas Flood. I won't claim one is better than the other since their styles are so different it's pretty much different genres of music.

the actual second solo was edited. they cut 1minute and 10 seconds from it. there are several videos of the full song. HDPink Floyd, with a split screen, showing 2 images, is the best. the sound on others isn't good. i must have heard this thousands of times. never get bored of it. some other of his really good solos are in, 'Great Day for Freedom', live at Gdansk, 'Sorrow', 'In Any Tongue', 'High Hopes', 'Coming Back To Life', all live at Pompeii, 2016

I guess it now off to "DOGS", and "PIGS (3 DIFFERENT ONES)", next....in fact just do as FLOYD intended and watch an album from START TO FINISH, to 100% get the Enttire meaning of their Concept albums....which they are the INNOVATORS IF NOT ORIGINATORS.
I like how you FEEL the EMOTION EMITTED frim Gilmours guitar. Please continue on this EPIC JOURNEY OF PINK FLOYD...it will definately get you views as well as expand your GENRES of music if you arent familiar. God Bless GREAT REACTION,👍👍👍👍👍

Saw them in 1987 at the L.A. Coliseum. Comfortably Numb, was the last song in the show, although there were two encore/curtain calls. Simply stellar. The crowd was folks from teens to elders and everyone was mellow. About every five minutes a joint would get passed your way. During the break, scores of us hopped the barrier and moved to the front of the infield to be right up close. Nobody even raised a finger to stop us.

The Wall didn't come out until 1979. Dark Side of the Moon came out in 1973. They did not achieve fame til late 68 and that was not from their music, just photo shoots in all. They made it big time when they made it lol, this is the best group ever. This solo won best of 10, they should have won number one in my book.

Dunno the technicalities, but reaction videos where the reactor is wearing headphones give a massively better sound for the viewers, and that song absolutely demands good sound quality! We are just hearing one little mike picking things up in a room, very thin and tinny. That said, thanks for doing one of the great performances of anybodies time!! Stay safe friend.
