    I've pulled more motors than I care to add up. Every time you think you have everything unbolted, there's always that hidden ground cable or bolt you missed! It's always helpful to have a second pair of eyes and hands.

    My father-in-law did a motor swap on a 2004 Ford Focus and for someone who had never done one before he did a great job. Labeled every wire and connection with a piece of duct tape as a label and marker and did many of the other things you highlighted here. Great video Charles!

    When I kept a PD 2.0 from a Passat for a swap into a mk1 golf , I kept everything.
    Bust out the sawzall and cut out anything related to engine and trans mounting , and even exhaust brackets.
    I even extracted the complete harness from the car without cutting a wire.
    Since the donor has been scrapped , I didn't want to leave anything to chance that I might need down the road.
    Going to a boneyard to perform more surgery for needed parts can be a major hassle.

  • @petermatteson4619
    @petermatteson4619 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Tip for plugging tubes and openings, mimic the OEM method that makes them clearly visible on the outside of the line or prevents assembly. If not you forget one and a foam ear plug or something like that will block you oil flow and kill your engine. there is a reason OEms in almost every industry have learned this.

    Steck makes a wedge tool to remove the axles,works very well.I always do a double check if I got all the bolts out before pulling the engine out.There are times I forgot to remove a bolt out and glad I caught it before pulling the engine out.Some of these newer vehicles,the mount bolts are one time use only which get replaced,one example is the Dodge Promaster.

  • @mattjones3753
    @mattjones3753 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Rule #6: Have lots of patience..... some of the bolts may be super rusty or have crap in the threads causing them to completely f*** up.
    Took me about 30/45 minutes to undo an engine mount by hand (one threaded up from the bottom so crap could trickle down into the thread). Impact wrench wasn't having any of it and it was about a 3 inch bolt!!!

    Hey Charles... loving your work and your love for the VR6 :D... when are you going to do the video about fitting a timing chain on a VR with a head spacer gasket? I have transplanted a 3.2VR into my Audi S3 and I have already done the chain but not happy with it so would like to see your take on it...
    Also... be very very interested in where you would take the coolant feed for the turbo from (I have a GT3582r going on mine) and also where the coolant return would go.... cheers buddy

    I wonder if Smyth Performance has an G3F kits lying around, that would be a pretty bad ass project to build with a 3.6 VR
