excellent line up. ive had the pleasure to play with the jessmuk, processing a rabbit and cactus pad to roast over a fire, ive used the bushbat to start a fire, filet a catfish and make some tacos, used the Bark River JX6 to carve a deadfall trap, make a fire and roast a rodent in the desert. gonna be posting a video on the lt wright jx3, making some squirrel stew this week.

+Junkyard Fox I imagine living out in the land of secret UFO bases and nuclear bomb test sites, that you don't have much issue with O1 and A2 like some do being that it's so dry.

Chris you spoke the truth. I’m using the 3 I own. No one can buy every knife out there and I own and enjoy using 3 you designed. Then put in the work to see them suffice. The connections on the business end. Amazing American company’s. Come On,you Crushed the JX-Series!

As I watch this video, I am stropping my JX2 Jessmuk, probably the first (or one of the first) Jessmuk in NE Brazil.
Yes, there is a bit of learning how to use it, but once you take a couple of minutes to get used to the belly... Man, oh man, this is a great knife, probably the best I have for everything bushcraft-wise, and I am not talking about feathering pine, but splitting (and featheing) Mimosa and other really hard woods, carving and notching bamboo, and at the same time preparing meat and vegetables to cook.
It has the most comfortable handle I've ever held, with no hotspots or fatigue.
    I just love it!

Chris, I have the JX4 and JX6, both in A2, and just got the Jessmuk-C. I’m taking it on a kayaking trip down the Buffalo River in Arkansas this weekend. I’m really excited for a chance to get it out in the woods. I have the JX5 on pre-order. Can’t wait to get my hands on that one! I bet my Becker BK9 won’t be my main chopper for much longer. I really appreciate your outside-the-box designs and love your videos. Keep doing what you do man!

The JX6 and the other short, upswept blades remind me of my new Hess Pioneer, which is based on the Marbles Woodcraft. I never imagined how much I'd like a knife with so much sweep and basically no straight edge, but it really does just work. And somehow the upswept tip doesn't mean the tip is hard to use.
I'd really encourage people who can't imagine carving or doing woodwork with those designs to get one in hand and try it.
Marbles sells a $20ish plastic handled 420hc non convex version of the woodcraft that would give someone an idea what this blade shape can do, if someone was really leery of spending the cash.

I've been carrying some kind of sheath knife for about 44 years now, or a folder when working in places where one would attract too much attention. Always looking for a single knife for everything from trimming a bootlace to opening a letter to trimming suckers off a fruit tree--then slicing tomatoes and dicing onions on a cutting board--always looking for one knife that would do it all just right. When I saw a picture of the jx6, I was sure it would be the one. But they were not to be found in stock anywhere. I got a jx3 as a consolation, and loved it, though it was just a bit small. Later I got a Bushbat with the perfect size and edge sweep--and almost returned it because of the ring. It was almost just right but the ring limited the holds that work for me. So I took the ring off. It's been my favorite sheath knife ever since I did that. But OCD kept the jx6 in my mind's eye until I spotted one at a decent price on eBay. Finally I have a jx6 on the way. Most blades will do most things more or less okay, but when I slog into the house to make lunch, I want something that will push cut through a tomato like a razor and rock along that beautiful sweep through a bunch of scallions. In a couple of days, will my drims come true? I think so... these designs of yours that let me use the entire edge on a cutting board, and do some relatively heavier chores out in the yard without switching tools are exactly what I need in a personal always-on-me knife.

Ive posted before, but wanted to say that I appreciate all of the videos you put out. Ive had the Jessmuk, and was enjoying it, but didnt find it my favorite and have moved on. In fact, I was the one that made the point to say that I wasnt particularly a fan of you personally, but wanted to gove props where due. Excellent work Chris...
Got one of the original Jess-x's from Schrade before they changed the saber to the hollow grind. Sad...they did that. The original does a heck of a job...
Got one of the Jess-Muk's from LT Wright... got the CPM3v version love it. The handle is pretty near perfect. Took a bit of practice but it is quickly overtaking my LT Wright Genesis... carrying both...well just deals with most everything.
Got one of the Jess- jx4 bushbats in CPM 154 from Bark River... it is my EDC for around the house. Love the ring tail. Just drop the knife and let it hang on my pinky as I use both hands for something then just flip the knife back into the hand for continuing cutting stuff.
The JX5 Vengeful 1 in CPM 3v...from Bark River... fripping amazing for the price. Got one... and it with either the LT's Jess Muk or his Genesis strapped on - I can go anywhere. Showed it to my neighbor...he bought two. One for his son and one for him. We still can't get over how well this chunk of metal works.
Got and gave one of the Jess jx6's in CPM 154rom Bark River to my son in law... he's loving it as an edc as well.
Keep it up...amazing designs. Good on ya Chris!
    Happy New Year as well...
    All the {continued} VERY BEST!

Hi Chris, Glad to hear you are feeling better..... Another great video explaining you current knife designs.... I say "current" because I am expecting more from you in the not too distant future. I must say your knife designs look cool and I am sure they work. I just wish they were more affordable. I know that you and others have to make a living and I know there are lots of people out there with too much money. :-) I know the topic of kinves is very subjective and can lead to some strong comments. I do not think there is such a thing as a perfect knife. So we should find what we like and enjoy it. If you have the tools you can always make your own knifes. When I was young and lived on the farm with a forge that is what we did.
Ok before I ramble too much let me say that if I can ever dig up the money I might get one of your JX3. It is small and I love the blade profile..... maybe someday I can conjur up one.... lol
    Later..................

the jessmuk is so under-advertised. It really needs to hit the mainstream. yu have all the gimmicky trackers and ultimate survival knives...then you have the jessmuk, I call it the knife that really can. I had one, I used it for years in Alaska, unfortunately, in the move back to texas the jessmuk was lost and I haven't been able to get another. someday jessmuk, we will be reunited. literally one of the best knives iv ever had.

Thanks for the rundown. Greatly appreciated. So far, I have two of the knives. One is Jess-X, which I won't go into what happened there (I think I emailed you about that. The other is the JX6 with Lava Flow handles (I absolutely love that handle) It looks so good that I've only used it for meat processing. As a karambit trainer I definitely want the Bushbat (I'm lusting after it).
I wonder if you ever thought about a scaled down parang with you signature curve? I think it could be a great knife. Another example would be a karambit knife with 3 edges on it instead of one. Whoa, that would be one knife that would probably be more of the fighting knife than anything else.
Love the knives, more to come here I'm sure. Thanks for the rundown.

AEB-L steel has much less carbon than 1095. It is similar to 13C26 (stainless) or like a stainless version of L-6.

    • @MFD00MTR33
      @MFD00MTR33 7 ปีที่แล้ว

Jim Melnyk Well said, never hear anyone compare Aeb-l to 1095. Big thing with Aeb-l is to give it proper heat treat. Run it 60-62 hrc(will need a cryo cycle) and it's a great edc steel. Takes a very keen edge(being a razor blade steel), great edge stability and decent toughness for a stainless.

I've seen those "scallops" on knives before, and I know they've got to have a purpose, but i don't know it. What do they do??? I'm dying to know

Imagine a BK9 but with no thumb ramp, sharp spine, 3v blade, and micarta handle scales. It would have PM101 etched on the side. We can dream.

Hey PreparedMind101, where would a person start to having their knife designs come to a more mainstream reality? I have quite a few blanks and many more drawn up. I have never went past that because I don't have the means or knowledge to properly heat treat them.

BTW, on the subject of cost...
My Jessmuk cost about 3/4 of what an unskilled worker would be paid here in Brasil (minimum wages), but come on, if you squirrel away a buck here and a couple there, don't drink that extra coke at lunch, etc. in a while you would be able to afford one.And it is a once-in-a-lifetime buy, not some US$20,00 piece of reclaimed spring steel someone gorund a bevel and glued some wood on!

I agree. I'm at a point in my life where I want to spend my money on quality items. I've done the economical versions because that's what I could afford at the time and it's gotten me by. Some were adequate and some were regrets where I should have saved a little longer and bought the quality item.
Some of these knives are offered in O1 steel but for $20-$25 more you can get it in CPM 3V. And I'm to the point that if I'm spending this much on a knife; why don't I save a little more and get the handle or pins that I want, in the steel that I want. Then you have an heirloom to pass on.
I have an old Schrade knife that I've used for skinning since I was a kid; but to be honest about it; the edge retention on it sucks. If it was done in a better steel with a proper heat treat, it would be great. Once you invest in a higher quality knife, you realize that it's worth the extra effort. That being said, I still buy Mora knives also.
Chris - DLT and KSF are low on stock. I would like to see your knives offered in other steels. Could you do the release so these knives can be made in other steels please?

I have a couple of the JX2's and a Jessmuk C. I like the design, but the JX2 is a little too big, and the C is too small. Need one right in between the two and I think it would outsell both the current models. I also own the JX5, so just don't need the JX2 to be that large.

When the DX series starts, are the JX knives still going to continue being produced?

    • @preparedmind101
      @preparedmind101  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

+Kevin Isherwood As long as there is demand. I think the JX4s have peaked. We have tons of design ideas yet to do. LT will probably be doing at least the two Jessmuks for a very long time. With Bark River, we may do a few runs of something then do something else.
Just wait till the folder division is up and running. Already have one slated to be one of the first ones. That's an entire new ballpark to play in. I Don't think the JX5 is going anywhere. It's just too good.

PREPAREDMIND101 I am definitely excited for what you seem to have in the works. Thankfully I am a patient man and if Universe continues to empower your "off the beaten path" yet highly practical mindset, then I am sure that there will be many more great tools to enjoy as much as my first run Jessmuk. Thanks Chris

Haven't had opertunity to watch whole video yet, will do later, but from so far, awesome line up of knives, shame about Jess X f**k up. I do think the line up could do with a fresh budget option, maybe a bushcraft or companion size knife in the £60 (or dollar equivalent) price range. Shame I never bought a Jess X in time. Love your designs!

+Erwan Thomas Not seeing it. I certainly didn't invent curved blades. Mine all use a specific sweep that is identical across 4 models. That looks like a giant nessmuk-chopper-thing. Certainly nothing like either of my two choppers.

+JediJunkie247 JX4 if you like spinning karambits. Some people love the ring, some don't. JX6 only has a few left. If you want woods-specific use, The Jessmuk-C. It's your safest bet.
