Freddie is speaking metaphorically. When he says he killed a man he’s referring to when he told his mother he was gay, he killed off his straight self or the person his mother thought he was all along when he was in the closet. Usually when gays “come out” their mothers tend to cry. Especially back in those days when it was really frowned upon and not accepted. So that’s what he meant by “didn’t mean to make you cry”. This entire song is about Freddie coming out as gay to his family and friends. He never made a formal announcement in the media but he never tri d to cover it up either. I once saw in an interview where he said “If anyone who just got done watching my last show still thinks I’m straight, they must be absolutely crackers”.

Fun fact: the guy in the movie who passed on Bohemian Rhapsody was played by Michael Meyers who played Wayne in Wayne’s World where he rocks out to the song.

This made my heart swell 💗Watching Leo really feeling & singing along to a song he obviously loves while he watches his big brother to see if he is going to love it too ❣️
One error I have to mention Leo...
    BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY WITHOUT EARBUDS/HEADPHONES 🤦‍♀️😣😭🤨
I'll forgive you this one time 🙃✌️💜
And I see others have already corrected you on the story/time-line...
Hope everyone is having a dandy day!

I'm old enough to remember when this song came out. My friends and I were just blown away! We were just like, 'wtf did we just hear??' ' We gotta get this album now!'
    Thanks for the vid!

It's very touching that you respect Freddie and Queen and rejoice in their music so much! He truly was a great artist and also was a shy man who was transformed when he performed. But he didn't allow that information about having AIDS to be publicly announced until the day before he died in 1991. His bandmates suspected that he had AIDS but he didn't tell them until 1989. He didn't ask for sympathy and didn't want to talk about it. As guitarist Brian May said, "He coped incredibly with his illness. He never, ever complained about it in my hearing."
Bohemian Rhapsody was first released in 1979, before AIDS was recognized. Freddie may have realized that he may have been at risk from or was already suffering from AIDS around 1982 - 1985 or so, but definitely by 1987 when the tests improved - eight years after this performance. He certainly knew that he was at risk for the same thing that was killing his friends.
But some of his songs seem to have contained some intuitive or precognitive (psychic) elements. Freddie composed other songs that seem to contain precognitive elements, as in We Are the Champions, when he sings, "I've done my sentence, but committed no crime." Or "I've taken my bows, and my curtain calls, you've given me fame and fortune and everything that goes with it, I thank you all. But it's been no bed of roses, no pleasure cruise, I consider it a challenge before the whole human race..."
Of course, the line, "Mama, I killed a man" could have applied to anyone who transmitted AIDS before treatments were available enabling people to live well despite the retrovirus, like Magic Johnson. Unfortunately, Freddie's illness came before the medical research had developed effective treatments and he suffered terribly before he died.

Hey Leo! I'm so very proud of you! Look at you sharing your knowledge with your brother about Freddie Mercury and Queen! Your singing along with the lyrics shows me that you have really studied this masterpiece. Bravo, young man!
