- Thousands of port workers are threatening to strike starting Tuesday, an action that could have a huge ripple effect throughout the U.S. economy, with items possibly disappearing from store shelves. Chris Spear, president of the American Trucking Associations, joins “The Hill on NewsNation Now,” saying agriculture will be impacted first and the strike’s outcome will "transcend into the holidays."

STOP exporting and importing and it wouldn't be an issue. Our American FARMERS should be growing for a Domestic Market and not exporting. If they get stuck with food they can't deport (A GOOD THING ) they could sell it to the Domestic Market at a lower price and the stores could reduce there overpriced goods.
Why would it affect food? Don't we grow our own food anymore. Same for gas. It's a sorry state we import gas.

Please hold off the strike until the desolate people who have lost absolutely everything from Hurricane Helene can get supplies. TN and NC mountains were hit especially hard. They have no water, no food, no roads, no houses, nothing. Withholding supplies at port, will cause even more trauma to the desperate folks.

I say this on every post. Where are the stats on the foreign shipping companies' profits? As fellow Americans, we should be fighting for increased wages in all our jobs. If the Union gets its increase, will the foreign shippers take less profit or just pass it along. Why do we continue to point the finger at each other while we are being robbed from these corporations. Look at their prifits and ask yourself, can they afford these increases and still make billions without costing Americans more, then decude how you feel about it

Should a strike actually occur, I'm guessing the holiday shopping will not be impacted greatly, as most merchandise has already been shipped and in country. SOME certain foods, and what we get from Europe will result in shortages. We can see these things as early as one week in such a strike. Once the word gets out, panic buying will escalate that time frame. Will our government intervene before such? Probably, but this is an election year! On top of this, Israel is in the news!
When times are tough no one cares about a flat screen TV or the latest iPhone. This is about important goods. You can't store bananas forever. You can refrigerate meat for a long time but that costs. Also, grain and other produce are not localized, so that has to be shipped to cities and towns. Then you would say, "hey just let the truckers ship the good already here". True, but trucking companies are not going to waste fuel with just one or two commodities and not have volume of shipments to pay their workers. The logistics of freight is not so simple my friend.

im a truck driver that hauls out of these ports and these union workers are some of the lazies i ever seen dragging their feet to do anything they also average 100k a year and all the Nepotism in these jobs they never hire the best but who you know
