  • Do you know how to make your scooter more effective on braking?
I'm going to show how you can recuperate 100% of the energy while braking on a Xiaomi electric scooter.
By default when you are pressing the brakes the rear wheel is using the brake pads and the front wheel is using the recuperating energy.
So in order to use more effectively the energy what we need to do - is to separate braking for front and back wheels. You can do so by adding another lever on the right handle.
I will show you the process and results at the end of the video.
But now let's get straight into it.
You will need to buy another brake lever for the MI scooter.
Remove the handle from the left side of the scooter.
Now if you try to put the lever inside - it will have an angle and it will not be convenient to use the brakes.
So we will have to unscrew 2 bolts. Rip out the cable - we will use this handle only for rear brakes.
Cut the plastic part so the lever can be adjusted on the handle at any angle.
    Assemble the lever.
Put the lever on the handle.
The throttle has to be shifted more to the center of the handle.
So I'm unscrewing the throttle as well and shifting it. Cutting the elastic cable cover and placing it back.
The throttle can be replaced now and tightened with nuts.
Put the brake lever inside and tighten it as well.
Check the throttle and brake handle can be moved freely.
And after that put the handle back.
Release the brake cable from the original lever and put it inside the new lever.
From this moment you have separated brakes for the wheels: the lever on the left side is responsible for front brakes (which is recuperating energy only).
And the lever on the right side is responsible for back brakes which are using the brake pads only.
You can consider this brake as an emergency only - it will not recuperate energy back into the battery.
Here are some tests done after the change.
I'm going to use the recuperation brakes only and will measure the brake distance. In this test I'm not using the back braking system. Only the front wheel will be used for braking.
All the tests are done with the same initial speed (which is 25 km/h) and in the same condition.
It took 15.8 meters to go from full speed to full stop on recuperation energy only.
I will check now how the original breaks will work. Putting the brake cable inside the left lever.
So front and back wheels will be used simultaniously as on the original scooter.
The distance passed on original brakes is 5.2 meters.
Now I will separate the brake levers for each wheel again and will test them by braking with 2 levers simultaneously.
Pretty much the same result as on original brakes.
Thank you guys for watching. Give thumbs up. Subscribe and see you soon.

It would cost pennies for them to have them separate. I've seen a couple cheaper ones that had it.

Why the hell factory cannot provide this option from the very beginning?! This is so easy and obvious!! :/🎉

Yes, that's correct. I can't understand it as well. Also I can't understand why the factory does not provide solid tires and the suspension. This would eliminate lots of issues

It is good to have if you are breaking a lot. The other thing is you have to keep your fingers on both handles each time to be ready to break in emergency situation. Usually I use the front break only but it happens sometimes that I need to press the rear break immediately. So you have to be prepared to it. As each seconds counts on emergency. There is no time to be wasted in such conditions. For me it is fine. But for somebody else it may be not that convenient.

I did not get you. I'm still using this modification and like it. If I go for a long distance I try to use recuperation only while breaking. I'm using it now and plan to use in the future
