I was there on opening night and this was a great moment in the Star Wars franchise because it was the first time we ever got to see Yoda in action. When Yoda ignited his lightsaber, the theater erupted in cheers. Truly one of the best memories of my childhood.
Yoda uses the Force to move during battle. Just like the Jedi uses the Force to jump higher than normal people could. When Yoda moves normally, then he uses his own strength, which is why he needs the cane.
For those that are wondering, Yoda uses the force when he fights with his lightsaber. That's why he is winded when he speaks to Dooku mid-battle. He doesn't use the force to get around on his cane. If he did, he would never be ready to use it when he needed it most. Also, I remember how excited we all were when we first learned that Yoda was going to be fighting in Star Wars: Episode II. We had to wait months for it and couldn't wait to see it on the big screen. Needless to say, all of these reactions were disappointing and relatively tame compared to ours.
What's cool about this. Anakin AND Luke Skywalker both suffered the same exact amputation. Both got their right hand severed by a lightsaber. It wasn't until Ep3 when Anakin lost the rest. EDIT: Out of all the movies I've seen in theater, this one has one of the biggest pops when Yoda started fighting for the first time on screen.
People first had this same revelation in Episode 6 when Luke cut off Vader's hand and it showed wires coming out of the wrist. Back then it was showcasing their similarities so you began to feel some empathy towards him right before the redemption arc climax. Up until then he was portrayed as quite invincible and that's when he was shown to be physically vulnerable.
For those who think that Yoda doesn't need a cane when he can fight like this, he DOES need a cane. When he fights he uses The Force and afterwards he gets exhausted as it takes a lot of energy.
here's some background context that makes this amazing and consistent throughout all six movies. Count Dooku is a master of Form II Makashi lightsaber combat, which specifically focuses on dueling other lightsabers. Yoda uses Form IV Ataru, which Quigon Jinn used and so did Kenobi in episode one. That's why you see Kenobi flipping around against Darth Maul. During the clone wars, Kenobi adopted Form III Soresu because it focuses deflecting blaster fire. He was a general and used it heavily against the droids. Anakin at this point uses Form V Djem Sho which was also quite focused on lightsaber combat. However, Anakin is still a padawan against a veteran, former Jedi Master that taught Quigon. Not only that, Dooku was a peerless master of Form II during his time. At this point, most were used to fighting droids and deflecting blaster bolts and not an actual duelist like Count Dooku.
Count Dooku is a master of Form ll lightsaber combat. The technique is known for utilizing the distinctive curve hilt lightsaber which allows for elegant and precise cross parry maneuvers, giving it a significant advantage over most other lightsaber forms. One disadvantage, however, is that it's ill-suited for defense against blasters.
@@aaronburdon221 the hilt is modeled after a bent French grip because of lees fencing background. However it should be noted that Lee didn’t end up doing the dueling. The only fencing “technique” dooku does is a fencing salute..
That is the lore. I however want to point out a couple things. The hilt is modeled after a bent French grip from fencing. In fencing the curves benefit is about reducing an opponent’s ability to riposte (cross parry) effectively. It’s specifically for thrusting. It actually reduces strength and elegance and precision of attacks. Its advantage is making the tip unpredictable for the opponent. A pistol grip in fencing is what give more precision.
People (casual Star Wars fans) don't realize the Force can be used to GREATLY enhance your physical abilities, or overcome disabilities. It is temporary and draining if course, and can't be used for longer than the length of a duel normally. Yoda is okd and frail but because he is extremely powerful in the Force he uses it to make him stronger, faster and agile
Count dooku has the coolest and most elegant lightsaber in all of star wars. The curve hilt goes perfectly with his mind. A calm, collective, calculating mind.
Yoda was trained by a Jedi that was part of a species that has long been extinct and Yoda mastered all forms of the lightsaber combat and has become so attuned to the force that he can take on creatures the sizes of mountains for he became a master at age 100 and he rose to the rank of Grandmaster of the Jedi Order and he has kept that title for 800 years afterwards making him 900 years old. Yoda uses the cane due to his old age, but he uses the force to give him a boost in power when he uses his lightsaber.
Yoda uses the Force a LOT when he fights, augmenting his speed and strength. These techniques are incredibly draining for most Jedi to use over even a minute or two - most Jedi use them in short bursts of a few moments. The only reason Yoda can do this is because he is legitimately that powerful and that in-tune with the Force. Yet even Yoda can't maintain these techniques indefinitely. For the most part, he's happy to get around with his cane or a hover chair, because he doesn't have to prove anything to anyone.
Yoda only needs a cane for support while he's walking, and it's just for show. Don't let that fool you. Our eyes decieve us until we can see the real picture.
Wow i remember here how lightsaber was strong but then i remembered Sabine survive a lightsaber strike so now my good memories of how good lightsaber is gone now
Count Dooku knows that he can't win against his old master even though Yoda is around 800+ years old (Yoda was 900 years old when Luke was young adult).
5 Star Wars mixed reactions i would like to asked ReactTV: 1. Anakin turns on Mace and Palpatine kills Mace 2. Execute Order 66 3. Anakin vs Obi Wan 4. Ahsoka vs Darth Vader 5. Luke Skywalker in the Mandalorian
@@ReactTV1 thanks for that. Also, thanks for the links. Luke’s return in the Mandalorian season 2 finale is the Luke Skywalker I always wanted to see after Return of the Jedi.
Dooku is still the best. Best lightsaber, only Sith Lord outside of palpatine that can force lightning, and the only Sith Lord who knows how to dress. My favorite no matter how many Anakin fan boys say better. Dooku could mop the floor with Vader.
None star Wars fans don't realize how powerful dooku is, the movies neutered him badly. It was cool to see him hand anakin his ass. Yoda could have destroyed dooku, but he still had love for his old Padawan. Not a fan of the prequels at all, the og trilogy will always reign supreme.
Movies neutered him? Don't talk shite. It's the other way around. The other media amplified him. He appeared in the movies long before he appeared anywhere else, and if your not a fan, the why the hell are you even here?
AOTC is my least favourite Star Wars movie (or it was until The Mouse took over), but I have very fond memories of the entire theatre going apeshit for this scene. I mean it’s Christopher Lee having a sword fight with an over powered magical frog midget. What’s not to like?

RIP Christopher Lee - the actor that plays Count Dooku.😔

May his soul be one with the Force.🙏 🌌

I sure bet everyone has that incredible experience at the opening night.
The force is flowing through Yoda's damaged, old body to aid him at times like this. He cannot sustain this for long.
Says a lot that Yoda easily catches Dooku's lightning, but Sidious's knocks him across the room.
Sideous is the dark lord of the sith
Makes sense that the Master would be stronger than the apprentice.
He then knocks Siddious across the room too
2 of these guys in the replies are blind they see the proper spelling of Sidious right in front of them and then proceed to spell it wrong somehow
Sidious is stronger in The Force than Dooku/Tyranus, that's why.

I saw it on opening day and the audience went berserk when Yoda pulled out his lightsaber. It was a great moment!
Remember, Yoda is over 900 years old! And size matters not. There is a reason why he is the ULTIMATE Jedi Master!💚💚💚💚

Reactors: “He’s so tiny.” “I’m worried.”
Me: 😒
@@wartyrant8627 Is that what the newcomers said?
@@a.jthomas6132 “they did, yes. Clueless as to how much power I have.”
Actually, he was 900 when he died in Return of the Jedi. He's 874 in Attack of the Clones.
@ 09:30 Yoda carries a "Shoko Lightsaber" (aka a Light Dagger). Shorter, but equally powerful.
You can tell when you watch it it is very noticeably shorter than Dooku's.
Spelled "shoto"
Always remember that Christopher Lee was a master fencer in real life and his lightsaber reflected that too. Seriously, we need a bio pic on him!
I love how Yoda just tosses away his cane. Like I don't need that mess that's just for show.
It just shows his wisdom🤣🤣

Fun Fact about this is that Christopher Lee was a fencer a long time ago so he already had considerable knowledge of how a sword moves and works.

Pure awesomeness by Yoda.... There are some beautiful reactors out there.... 🔥
This scene alone justifies “Attack of the Clones” existence.
