@@salvationbygracethroughfaith lol the XM4 is a muddy mess no matter the tuning. Although you are not wrong on the Bose being mediocre, the XM4 are laughably bad as well. Momentum 4, Momentum 3 and Air Pod Max are the only Bluetooth worth it in the 300-500 range and honestly at $250 the moment 4 is unbeatable as it is the best sounding of the three. Albeit its close among these overall. $300-$500 1. Momentum4 2. Momentim3 3. APM 4. Aonic 50 5/6 Bose in general 5/6 XM4 Havent heard XM5 but sony XM1-XM4 were buy and returns everytime for me, so I quit trying this line as it is pure crap. Bose is mediocre but the most comfortable so I end up using it on long trips alot.
@@salvationbygracethroughfaith The momentum 3 lack the deep notes or the APM and M4 but still have good bass with a semirefined sound, my man the XM4 are muddy. The momentum 4 have a lot of slam but with the clarity of the 3. I gave the XM4 a fair shot, those are muddy as heck. I come from the world of Hifiman Sundaras and HD 560S which have much better sound than all of these but less bass. To each their own, M4 has deeper and stronger bass than the XM4 but no muddiness. But you love your XM4 I cannot tell you nor force you different. Fair enough. Audio is personal.
I only read: "I bought the bose qc ultra just for the review and now i'm justifying why I'm returning it, even when it was my plan since the beginning"
My experience is SO very different to yours in so many respects that I won't go into each one as this would mean several paragraphs. Honestly, I'm very surprised at just how many 'negatives' you found on these headphones. The QC Ultra is certainly not perfect, but I do think that, overall, it is a great ANC headphone. I'd personally give it 4.5 out of 5 stars. But, thanks for your honest take on these, anyway.
Hi! Thanks for watching and The ultras are great in many ways. I had to share the issues I found because others might experience similar things especially being one of the most expensive anc consumer headphones.
@TheFrenchGlow These 'issues' can be found on ANY brands, any models. It just makes me laugh. Why don't you let people buy this product online, experience it by themselves and then they can decide if they want to keep it or send it back.
You can't argue if a person finds it uncomfortable. Comfort is the most essential feature in any headphone. I used my wife's 45's and loved how I could wear it for hours without problems. Found a great deal on the XM-4, thinking they would be the same... Had to return them due to it pressing on my ear, causing pain after a couple hours of use. Now it's a toss-up between the 45s or the Ultras. You just never know until you put on a pair.
Did you notice any creak from the earcups when moving your head/jaw, putting on and off or even when walking. I'm on my third pair now, getting super upset. This is obviously more noticeable when music is not playing.
This video is goofy. Some of your nitpicks almost make you look unintelligent. Trying to cram the headphones in the wrong way…like do you want a small case or not? They have a certain way to put it in so that you can reduce the size. They literally fold the same way and go in the same as the original QC35 so what’s the big deal…like did you just never put them in right? This seems like the smallest gripes.
That's exactly how I felt his gripes were things most people wouldn't even care about and I learned the volume control in seconds and find them way to use . The buttons are so simple to use in this unit.
I have a qcu, all these points that you have mentioned are to the point But I bought this for the sound quality as Xm5 produces somewhat muffled sound So I think if someone really cares about sound quality, it is perfect for them I like my qcu a lot
Being female and with a smaller head (one-size fashion hats are _always_ too big on me!) I wonder if the Ultras might be just right for my abnormal bonce? Ear comfort is very important to me - I can't bear the way that so many ear-cups feel on my ears after relatively short wear. I've heard that the slightly cheaper _in-ear_ Ultras are equally superb for audio quality and NC, so it's a toss-up between them or the standard QC 🎧. Bose offer a long test/return window, so am tempted to order all three and compare/decide at home. Thanks for your insights!
Well, in my case I was happy to replace my PX7 S2 eventually! The Bose are the better package for me after all. The Bowers&Wilkins had a good sound, but they were heavy, too tight, not really foldable, weak ANC and the tiny buttons drove me crazy. Hard to find the headphones that make you 100% happy, in my case the QC Ultra are very close to it (missing only USB Audio). The QC Ultra price is totally okay btw, if you compare with Apple, Sony and B&W. Will become cheaper anyway very soon.
Did you notice any creak from the earcups when moving your head/jaw, putting on and off or even when walking. I'm on my third pair now, getting super upset. This is obviously more noticeable when music is not playing.
I received the QC Ultra today and I'm not impressed at all. I did not have that "WOW" factor. I had so many high expectations for these headphones. The noise cancellation seems very mediocre. I've tried many noise-cancellation headphones and for this to be the top noise-canceling headphones, yeah okay. I was still able to hear noise while my music was playing. I even did the airplane test, acting as if I was on an airplane. I was still able to hear the engine noise while my music was playing. As a HUGE Bose fan, I'm actually sad to say this, I'm highly disappointed with these headphones. And also, the sound was just okay. I was expecting better bass, the volume at the highest just didn't seem loud enough. I'm definitely returning these.
buy Sony if you are a casual listener and buy Sennheiser Momentum 4 if you are an EDM fan someone like me who favours bass and sound quality over ANC. Either way you've got your problems solved.
Personally, buttons with dual functions is okay as long as you don't have to use them on while you're busy on the move, like cycling, running walking fast etc. And dual functions is the most 1 singular button should handle. But preferably some more physical buttons are preferable.
How is the call quality on the Bose Quiet Comfort? I’m glad to see you went with that version. The only thing holding me back is the call quality for phone and zoom
great to hear :) any complaints 1 month in or how's your experience been so far? whats the experience like when switching between devices? I want to predominately use these at night time when mum is asleep. I have iPhone, MacBook Pro and iPad Pro and also want to sometimes pair them to the smart TV. I'm a tad concerned about how much hassle it would be to switch between devices compared to the AirPods Max's , however, they are retailing for $900 AUD and still have the H1 chip so I'm not going near that headphone with a 10 foot pole, im 98% sure I want to get the BOSE QC ULTRA at this point :) just doing my last minute checks before I grab a pair. what colour did you get and do you wish you got a different colour? how's the app? any info would be greatly appreciated.. I wrote this whilst wearing mums QC 35's and they are stinkin cozy, can wear them for hours on end without any soreness, I hope the ultra's are as comfy.
The inability to use the headphones wired to a device without power is kind of turning me off. Everything else so far I have liked about them, but I have been in situations where I needed to use my old QC's with no power and just plugged into a 3.5mm headphone jack.
Agreed. They should pass a law that all headphones can be used without power using a 3.5mm jack. Because they always draw battery, the ultras would be another accessory I carry that requires a daily charge like my phone, tablet, laptop, and watch.
Hey I just came across your video, found it very interesting. I have one concern regarding the headphones and that is when i raise the volume up, seems like it leaves the headphones everyone who is around me can hear the music. Is that normal?
is the Bose QC ultra noice cancellation much better than the Quiet confort ? I REALLY CARE NOICE CANCELLATION, do you think the difference is so big that I have to buy the ultra over the normal quiet confort ? considering that I also like the other ultra extra features over the qc
The bose ultra are the best in noise cancelling, really impressive. They are the best in this regard. I returned mine because the material is not worth the price (foam started to break in some places after few months pf light use)
Great review brother. From my experience one of my favorite things on these are the music touch controls on my QC ultra. Mixed with 1 single button to skip songs. The combination of those two work great.
Speaking of comfort, I love my QC ultra compare it to my XM5 . The earcup on XM5 not that comfortable and not deep enough for my ears and if I used XM5 for a long flight ( 6hours+) my ears feels ache and sweaty cause of the material . For me I prefer my Bose QC Ultra ❤
Bose QC Ultra (MSRP $429 released Oct. 2023, Sale $350, lowest $329 on Oct 30, 2024) are very good and slightly better than the regular Bose Quiet Comfort released Sept 2023 MSRP $349 (Sale $199) which replaced the QC-45 MSRP $329. If you like more buttons get the QC non-ultra. The Olive Drab, or light pastel green looks Kool. Ridiculous that Bose released QC (non-ultra) in Sept. 2023 at $349 followed by QC Ultra in Oct. 2023 at $429. The competition was Bose QC (non-ultra) to Sony XM4 to Sennheiser M4. But Sennheiser has failed to upgrade a year ago as now we compare Sennheiser M4 to Sony XM5 and Bose QC Ultra. Sony WH-1000XM4 (Sale $199) are good but fall well short of the new Sony WH-1000XM5 (MSRP $400 sale $329). BTW, I hate all Sony products. Beware that Sony does not have aptX therefore will have higher latency when you are watching Videos/Movies/TV the lip synchronization may not match up. The Bose QC Ultra have less issues, slightly less in sound quality but better ANC and bit more comfortable also has aptX codec. The Bose QC Ultra cost more than Momentum 4. Got extra $$ get Bose QC Ultra but you will sacrifice just a little in overall sound quality. Hope to find a sale/discount price of $329 during the 2024 Holiday Season then be worth getting over the sale price I paid for Momentum 4 of $249 at Best Buy a difference of $80 more for purchase of QC Ultra if able to get for $329. Budget headphones are those that cost less than $200. Midrange is $250 to $500. Sony WH-1000XM4/M5 have a few advantages elsewhere in the BT Headphone market but I don't like their Codec and lack of low latency. Sorry, not a fan of Sony products. Too many complaints regarding XM5 failures and headphone ear pieces breaking off. Don't buy without an extended warranty. Trying out Momentum 4 for a few weeks (2024 Holiday sale price $249, add extended return policy), may or may not return depends on how well I like them and any problems arise. It's known that Sennheiser has very poor Customer Service. ** Nov.18, 2024 = get Bose QC Ultra from Best Buy as Holiday sale for $329. MSRP $429. Using MEE audio Connect Hub or Avantree Orbit Pro as which provides better TV Program viewing without Annoying audio Lip Sync delay while listening via Bluetooth. Key point they both headphones provide aptX adaptive or Low Latency Mainly using to watch TV programs and Movies. I do not play any kind of Video Games, no Xbox, no Sony Play Station, no Nintendo, no Wii and no PC games. Can always look into B&W Px8, don't get the terrible build quality B&W Px7 S2e as they fall apart, or maybe something from Shure.
Just curious, does your ANC distort when you jump or are on a bumpy car ride? I just got mine out of the box and that’s the first thing I noticed, really off putting. Never experienced this on any other ANC
Honestly this issue seems to get worse with every qc version, the 35s i have are the best, and the only one I can wear on a bus without that horrific crackling
8 1/2 is a fairly large head...average hat size for men is only 7 3/8. Just saying. As someone who is 7 1/4 this is a definite bonus, looking forward to see how frequency plots come out. Also the issue with bass at higher volumes is also certainly due to Fletcher Munson curve adjustments.
agree, comfort is the most important thing. If they are not comfortable, it doesn't matter how good they sound, you won't want to wear them..... simple as that Jack
Especially if you are using them primarily for travel or 8 work sessions. I rather have good music quality ultra comfortable headphones than great music quality uncomfortable ones. Some people will find the ultras are the most comfortable while others like me find them a tight fit.
@@TheFrenchGlow curious, did you try to stretch out the top headband?? a lot of headphones will have a strip of metal in the top headband that you can actually forcibly 'open' a little wider by bending it without cracking the plastic substrate. im curious to know whether you can do this with the ultras, im going to go out on a limb here and assume that due to the company traditionally using top tier materials, there is probably a good chance that this strategy is an option.
I bought the Bose Quietcomfort Ultra. In sound cancellation they are 10/10. I have to say that when using them wired the sound is very low to the point that if there is noise outside I could say that it cannot be heard well. I looked for reviews about it and no one says anything. I bought them in Spain and if I had tried them at that time I wouldn't have decided on these headphones. Has anyone else had the same thing happen to them?
Definitely one of the better reviews of the Bose QC Ultras. Relevant talking points. Fair and balanced analysis. That said, I think you're nuts for returning the headphones just because you don't like the volume slider. Granted, its not very well implemented, but its really not that big a deal. Well worth the amazing sound quality imo.
While I agree with you, its not a good look for a $430 headphones. MY options are limited to XM4 or Ultra. XM5 has shallow ear pads for my ear. The new QC seem to have some build quality issues.
Agreed! Just happened to me… bought on dutty free, used during the flight.. amazing tech and outstanding sound presence in imersion (for music lovers), but in fact there is some unpleasant pressure around the hear that should not be there!!! Its been 10h since I bought it; Now I will see overtime if the tech surpasses the unconfort substantially or if I will pass them on.
trying my QC ultra, coming from 35 II. Ultra are comfortable but nothing beats the 35 II as you said. Also I really don’t care about the improved ANC/sound, 35 II are fine. Only reason I bought the Ultra is I got them for $270. I can sell my 35 II for $100 but idk…they’ve lasted 5 years and still going strong. Still torn on what to do
When in doubt, KEEP THE QC35 IIs for now. And when you see the ultras on sale under $300, then I would consider. But since you got them for 270...what else can you spend your 270 on?
Bose QC > Bose QC45>BoseQC35 and Bose QCultra stands in first for some users due to latest tech used in it or it stands after Bose QC. BoseQC and Bose QCUltra is a new model released in 2023 after Bose QC45. BoseQC is having wind noise off and battery improvements and improved EQ settings and Bose QCultra improved with immersive spatial sound tech and improved EQ settings with more cushions in design
Simply fantastic and honest review. Thanks. I returned mine too for the same reasons. I just can't wear these for hours on end. The small size puts too much pressure on the side of my head. Also the volume slider was poorly designed. I spent too much time trying to fine-tune the volume. With my qc35 it was nothing but click, click set. I really, really wanted to like these headphones. The noise cancellation is absolutely outstanding and the sound is great too. But the comfort and the volume slider and the button positioning and size are just not great. Bose did not do a great job with the design of this device. The designers should have actually used this things for days before finishing the design and shipping this thing. I'll just upgrade my QC 35s that I had for 5 years with the QC 45s. Sigh. Do better Bose, you almost made an excellent pair of headphones.
Thanks for sharing. If the ultras don’t fit, you can’t fix it with better anc or sound. I think Bose forgot that we use Bose headphones because it’s great balanced sound, most comfortable, and easy to use.
@@TheFrenchGlow Half of folks are saying the Ultras are more comfortable than their 45s, and the other half are saying it's terrible, and they're going back to their 45s... I swear, sometimes I really hate the internet 🤪
Did you notice any creak from the earcups when moving your head/jaw, putting on and off or even when walking. I'm on my third pair now, getting super upset. This is obviously more noticeable when music is not playing.
@@BucksBe At least we have choices based on what works best for us. I returned the Ultras and went with the latest QC and am pretty happy. If the Ultras are ever upgraded to allow for a more comfortable fit and easier volume setting, I'll buy them again because their noise cancellation and music sound are the best.
I have used these exclusively for the last 8 months, these are are my everyday headphones and they surprise me with how versatile they are. The only thing I care about is the sound and the ANC, the rest like the case or aware mode is just fluff. There's more than enough battery life and blocking wind noise makes other headphones useless when wearing them outside. If you want decentsound with the best ANC in the industry you can't go wrong.
I literally have not found one reason to get rid of these while watching this video of anything now I love them even more. I have huge hands the touch volume control has never been a problem. I switched out the stock ear pads for softer wicked pads so long term wear isn't a problem at all. The app has great features top quality anc and even better transparency mode. You only made me love these even more after watching your video the fit is even better then the sonys.
this comment is God tier.. thank you! never thought of replacing the ear pads, wicked cushions is such a dope company too haha I used to love watching that guy review headphones, stinkin cozy!
Thanks for the story! I am looking for my first pair of premium over ears for office and since I have to pay for these myself and wanting to be able to use them all day, music/speech as well. QC Ultra's give me that magic al feeling because of the sound, the build (I think XM5 doens't have to premium feel to them) and man, Iwould need to save up for them in The Nederlands because they're pricey...the thing is that all stuff you mention is very valid for your own personal situation: fit, the case (I've never had to put them back in so need to get the hang of it), and a lagging battery life. It will get you through your day without any problem though. Appreciatie your content, helping me in the process!
A note on the Spatial Audio feature: you should really be using immersive or Spatial Audio on music and content that was specifically designed for that purpose. In Apple Music, you will need to go to settings and turn Dolby Atmos to ‘Always On’ as iPhones don’t recognize your Bose headphones as Spatial Audio compatible. If you are wearing AirPods, the iPhone will automatically know that you’re using AirPods and will turn the Dolby Atmos mode on. Only specific music has this feature but unless you switch to Dolby Atmos to Always On, you won’t be able to hear the clarity.
I've owned nearly every single pair of Bose QuietComfort going back to the 90s I just purchased quiet Comfort Ultras they set the standard comfort and quality no other headphones on the market level of quality a noise cancellation
The battery life is advertised as 18 hours if immersion is turned on. If you used them with that feature turned on, then they lived up to their claimed battery life, potentially even exceeded it.
right now i am looking at both of these...QC45 are 299 ( Canadian ) 218 ( US ) and the new QC are 379 ( Canadian ) 276 ( US ).....QC ULTRA 499 ( Canadian ) 364 ( US ).....which would you recommend as i am without anything currently....I need them for music and watching movies on my ipad.....great review by the way....thx....cheers from Canada
I disagree with most of your complaints other than one. I do agree that the volume slider is not as precise as it should be. Even with that, I find the volume slider decent and with so many other great features I just think these are the best sounding and easy to control headphones I have used. No I’m not a huge fan of the immersive mode, but it can sound logical when you’re watching a a movie and you want the sound to appear to be coming in front of you. But for general music and audio listening, I don’t use it . But that doesn’t take away from the fact that the sound quality comfort And usability are top notch for this headset. IMO these are the best Bluetooth headphones you can get even if they are a bit expensive. Good luck finding the buttons? The only reason you can find the buttons is they don’t have too many. But your advice is to add more buttons? What? How is that gonna make finding buttons easier? Literally just makes no sense. I agree with other posts here that state that it seems like you were finding reasons to return them because you had already planned on doing it and you just wanted to post a derogatory review but either way you’re wrong. These are great headphones, and you should not listen to this review in my opinion. As far as fit, yeah maybe they don’t fit you great but they fit me really well and I have a pretty big head so I don’t really understand what your issue was, but I find them extremely comfortable.
Great review! So hard to find reviews with practical use information. I like how you mixed in the specs as well as the little quirk you've found in your every day use! Thanks for the video Keep up the good work!
I have a strong feeling that this man works for Bose competitors. For Sony, or for Sennheiser, or for Beats? Who knows. But this report is not so honest
I love my QC 35 but mine just started having the self power-on issue. I purchsed the new QC but they feel so much cheaper in quality compared to the 35 so im returning them. I think ill try the ultra next. Thanks for the review
I just bought one. My only complain is if I want it hang on my neck, I have to get it off my head and turn it before I put it to my neck, to make the earpads flat.
The reason why the bass sounds “less punchy” at high volumes is because the headphones have “adaptive audio.” The bass and treble are not greatly reduced at low volumes, but as you put the volume up, it slightly reduces the aforementioned to influence you to listen to your media at safer volume levels. Headphones without “adaptive audio” reduce the bass and treble as you lower the volume and increase the aforementioned at higher levels, so it makes the user rely on listening at higher volumes.
as far as they last as much as before I don't mind, I have some QC35's with almost 10 years of practically day use and still work fine. I'm thinking of buying these new ones, but even that I can't rationally justify as the current one's are fine. All I've changed along the years have been the ear pieces, twice over the 10 years...one of the best purchases I've made...
Based on the list of reasons you mentioned to return…they seems like very small picks which most of them won’t even care…but it’s your money so it’s up to you. Expecting headphones to work when they are charging is like 😂 come on man…if that’s the case you my get an immersive power shock to your head which then you feel as new technolgy which any other headphones have 🤣🤣🤣Overall I would feel you got paid by some other brand to make this video…may be but not sure..you knows exactly.
Hi! I livestream on Amazon for 4.5 years, reviewing products and showcasing products. I wish a brand would sponsor me like that. I'm a diehard bose/sony/Google/Alexa guy.
Honestly tho😂 I bought these yesterday and they are great. I never had any of his problems. The buttons are perfect, it literally tells you how to use them in the bose app. The volume slide is in a perfect position for my thumb. Everything is great
look at some B&W's or Shure. Sony sucks. The Sennheiser Momentum 4s are nice if you don't mind Touch controls/ pressure sensors. up to 60 hours play time, can use while charging or insert the 3.5mm (all BT sound worst with 3.5mm) they are slightly rated below Bose QC Ultra but M4s produce better audio/sound quality. Both have aptX codec. M4's microphone are terrible outdoors "wind" as a big downfall. Get Sennheiser M4 on sale for $249. must update Firmware,,, Bose QC Ultra $329. Bose QC non-ultra $199. during 2024 Holiday season sales.
bose needs to keep up and do something big, theyre falling behind all the competition and with their immersive audio stuff id hope theyll do a 100 hours battery life headphone to screw the competition
It's crazy I thought all the exact issues that you've had 100%. Still on the fence about the ultra but then the comfort level is making me doubt and making me maybe want to go to the QC but just not sure yet. If you need the app to adjust everything on the headphones when you use them with a laptop it's a different experience of using it with mobile. There's very much a lack of tactile buttons for the ultra although I love the sound. Again I'm very torn by this but great great video
I still use good old QC25's, as well as Sony XM3's. From what I read in reviews, it really looks like Bose tried to copy Sony's XM with their Ultra, because I'm reading all of the drawbacks I have with the XM's, namely less comfort, shallower cups & overheating, not extending enough for larger heads, creaking plastic when moving. Not even counting lack of TRRS cable with built-in MIC. Cannot charge and listen at the same time? Yep same thing with Sony's! I love the better NC of the Sony's, but all the rest is worse, why copy that? So I'm probably gonna upgrade to the latest classic QuietComfort's, which don't seem to have all those problems.
Thanks for mentioning that you need to turn them on for them to work and that you can just use them with the cable with them off. As they won't work. So, I will be returning mine too. And just get the non-Ultra one. Which I already have, just needs a replacement as it has aged.
Totally agree on the buttons. For me, the music wasn't as satisfying at the Sony XM4's for music. The earpads are more firm and less comfortable for sure, but to me they are still better than the Sony's which get hot for me with long wear
As a result of what you and thems said I got mines and am super double excieted. The Ultras are able to accept Flippant v1 but in the end I went with ZMF and a bottlehead crack on the go. Yipster to the Sony....a real good deal but for premium I suggest the Ultra for music and the spoken word on TV. Check out the Audeze Frog shells with the EQ to the max. In the end I agree the Bose QC (not ultra) are a better price when using Flippant to denote the ANC but if in a quiet enviroment going full Violectric is an option with USB to get round the piwer button next to the USB. It is indeed unfriendly as you correctly say but I based my choice on the quality of the case, the Zip and the comfort. In the end just get some Beats for a consumer sound and hip hop. Accuracy is not important over using any Baxter which you can charge at the same time. Fools to do this. It does drive me crazy like you. Get Skullcandy for realisum and wow what a pair to get
Great Video! I agree with most of these except the sound stage / improvements over the NC700. Still narrow compared to the competition and you can literally EQ the NC700s to sound like these.
Great review! I bought the $430 QC ultra to test it against my 2022 QC45's which are already studio quality stereo excellence out of the box and those are going for $199 now I don't need a motion swipe volume adjustment, noise canceling, STILL, MOTION and IMMERSION technology modes for $430 The 2022 QC45 already has excellent STUDIO QUALITY stereo sound and canceling with no need for equalization While you're getting the same phenomenal BOSE sound, the new QC ultra is gimmicky I also recently bought the SONY ULT but returned them the next day because I hate headphones that require equalizer adjustments to sound great. The SONY ULT is not great sounding, it sounds rather cheap to my ears (I'm comparing them to the BOSE) The BOSE QC45 is still an unbeatable headphone and now that they're at $199 I'm going to buy 2 more. It's the only headphone I'll ever need
The physical slider power button and volume buttons are sooooooo much better than the ultra and I miss them. The ultra's volume slider is hard to get precise volume control.
Now find it on a Friday night getting home from the bar. Or while you are running. Or moving quickly in general. Not sure why the slider. Apple learned the same lesson with touchid.
Highly disagree. Never had problem with it. First time putting it on, was a quite natural movement straight away. The volume slider is exactly where the QC35s volume buttons are.
Can you use the Bose Qc ultra or the Bose qc attached to the ps5 controller e and playing and contemporarily speaking with friends while playing with the headphones microphone and no external microphone?
It’s interesting how everyone is talking about Bose Ultra ANC, but no one seems to mention it's sound quality. Spoiler alert: it’s bad. I own a Sony XM5, and my brother recently bought a Bose Ultra. It was a disappointment because overall it sounds muffled and lacks punchy bass. He regrets his purchase wishing he had opted for the Sony XM5 instead. Before buying, make sure to test the devices and ideally compare with other models to avoid any surprises. Keep in mind that video reviews may not always provide the full picture. I did the wonderwall sound test you suggested and it sounds a lot clearer on my XM5. You should try Peace of Mind by Boston on the Bose Ultra. Bose Ultra cannot handle treble well at all.
I was really disappointed with the ultras noise output, not loud enough at all for me, and im not like a "blow my ears off my head" kinda listener, its too overwhelming too loud but these heaphones at max volume felt like it was only halfway turned up. Im confused with everyones reviews saying they are really loud. Does anyone else feel that way?
You need to let your ears rest. Exposure to drums or live music in general without ear protection? Some churches even have live drums nowadays which is damaging to the ears.
I listened to your complaints, how nitpicky or non existent they are, and it reaffirmed how great these headphones are. I do have one legit complaint, your audio is horrendous. You sound like you’re speaking underwater.
I have a question. If primary issue was fit and all headshapes are different, wouldn't a tighter, smaller earcups like the nc700 be less comfortable than regular quietcomforts? Now what if was the bose ultra instead.
I get your points. The reasons I find the Airpods max one of the worst earphones of all times are similar to yours. Bose was a great win for me, except for not working with the 3,5m cable without battery
I absolutely hate the proliferation of touch controls on headphones, to the point where I just won't buy a product if it has them. I'm still pleased with my Sennheiser Momentum 3 Wireless but I definitely wish the ANC was better and the headband adjustment gets loose over time. Not sure what I'll replace them with when the time comes, since they removed the buttons on the Momentum 4.
The bose ultra are the best in noise cancelling, really impressive. They are the best in this regard. I returned mine because the material is not worth the price (foam started to break in some places after few months pf light use)
I'm sending back mine today, exactly the same issue, really uncomfortable on the ears, i always have to take my earrings down which i didn't with me QC35s.
Stop wearing earrings or remove them permanently. The Bose QC (non-ultra and after the QC-45) released in Sept. 2023 MSRP of $349 can be had during this 2024 Holiday season for $199 as they are better than QC-35 and QC-45. Also the QC non-ultra still has buttons on ear piece with On/Off switch and don't fit as tight.
Cons that make them terrible choice: - There's NO way to use them while charging (It's a total scandal in 2023/2024). So imagine if they run out of battery during the meeting you're doomed. - The earmuffs tilt opposite directions than in any other headphones, so when you rest them on your shoulders the cushions are pointed up but the sharp corners of the outer layer are irritating your skin
I have the QC35 II, and I don't like the design of those. If, in addition, those are not as comfortable as the QC 35 II and the QC 45, there is no way I will upgrade!
I bought Bose NC700 2 days ago.. I was watching youtube videos and googling comparions of Sony and Bose headphones. I have noise sensitivity so I was looking for good ANC headphones. Im so new to high-end headphones. Before looking more into QC Ultra, I picked up NC700 at BestBuy instead of buying Amazon. I realized the issue with buying at BestBuy,, I won't be able to return once I open the box 😵💫 I still can hear noise with Level10 ANC on 700. But Im not looking for the absolute quietness. Im autistic n I have auditory processing issue too, so I need to be able to hear people's voice. For the ANC adjustability, I went with NC700, then I found that QC Ultra does have adjustable ANC modes..! Price of both headphones are not even that much in Canada 😅 I would like to know if ANC settings and functions are actually much better on QC Ultra?
You definitely can return opened items to bestbuy including headphones. Only restriction are prepaid phones and a 15% restocking fees on cameras lenses ebikes and a coupke more items. But headohones you can definitely return without fees.
@@TheFrenchGlow It was a mistake made by Walmart and Amazon early this morning. I think they discounted the wrong QCs but people were able to get the Ultras for $260 in that short timeframe. They are now back to regular price.
@@TheFrenchGlow Do they produce a sudden soft "clicking" or "popping" noise and you hear a change in the sound on one side or the other when you are in a bumpy car ride or walking briskly? I know I did...I returned, guess what? More than 1 pair of these for the same problem. Never again. Unless...unless they change their headphones. This never happened with any other ANC headphones except these suckers. Why? They were perfect...except for this nonsense.
First time seeing anything from this guy and his review is the only one that fits my experience - I just bought my ultras and I’m also returning them. The sound is excellent but my ears get way too hot due to the fit.
First of all, I hope you don't get copyrighted for kung fu panda being played in the back HAHA. But overall, I agree with almost everything you said. ALMOST. But key point here is its a $650 AUD headphone. For that many problems, its really not worth it, even when it goes down with discounts in future..at most im assuming 450ish, i would say its still not worth it just because the NC700 or XM4 exists as well. The Bose QCs are just more worth it imo. To each their own but the noise cancelling heaphone market is really weird right now and I really hope to see better from everyone!
I decided not to get them simply because of the lack of sound quality in comparison to proper audiophile headphones. Got the Bang Olufsen Beoplay H95 instead
I just got mine. The only issue I have is the power button and bluetooth. WHY couldnt they separate the two. But I have a huge issue connecting to my PC and Phone together. It seems its one or the other. Anyone faced this issue?
Can he buy himself a Head Shrink, maybe then they will fit. LOL. For the price and better fit, the Sept.2023 released Quiet Comfort (non-ultra) MSRP $349 now on sale for $199 also has more physical buttons might be a better choice than QC Ultra released Oct. 2023 MSRP $429 now on sale for $349 as of November 2024. The QC Ultra have Snapdragon 888 support for better connectivity to Android phones made from 2021 to present.
I selled qc45 and got the xm5. I really hoped bose will update the connectivity issues between windows pc and android phone. They switch automatically to windows instantly and it was annoying. Then there is the biggest issue, the microphone quality, if you talk a little quiet( who speaks loud outside?) You just cant be heard. And i hoped for months for an update, its a software thing, not mic array, its how the electronic processing filter works. And they release the qc ultra with the same issues!!! Well. I am now so happy with xm5. About the big case- i wear the headphones on my head or neck when i travel. They get updates all time! Sony cares. Bose does not.
Well, sorry you went with lame SONY. Bose QC Ultra was a miss compared to the QC non-ultra which were better than QC-45 or QC-35. Sent QC Ultra back and kept Sennheiser Momentum 4's as you must update the Firmware otherwise got old problems. Newer and claim improved doesn't always equate to being better. Companies only care about how many they can sell and skip Quality and Durability. Be careful that SONY SH-1000XM5 don't fail or break apart which they will ... hope you purchased the Extended Warranty,
@@richscott2483 i did not buy extra warranty and after 2 years using them every day, they work perfect. still after 2 years i get software updates, features and fine tuning. Bose still has the same issues i suppose?
Hi Guys, My hat size is 7.5 NOT 8.5 and the Ultra's were tighter on my head. What about you?🤔
I wa about so say, 😂😂I’m a 7.5 and I have a big head.
The Bose QC Ultras were more comfortable than the Bose QC 45s and new Bose QC's for me and I have a pretty big head.
$300-$500
1. Momentum4
2. Momentim3
3. APM
4. Aonic 50
5/6 Bose in general
5/6 XM4
Havent heard XM5 but sony XM1-XM4 were buy and returns everytime for me, so I quit trying this line as it is pure crap.

Well it is really expensive 😂
This was such a terrible review. "They're not great at this, but...", "this wasn't great, but...", "I'm not too sure about it, but..." FFS!
@TheFrenchGlow
These 'issues' can be found on ANY brands, any models.
@judgetk3309, can you tell me if the QC Ultra is superior compared to the QC 45? If so, how big are the differences?
I personally think the immersive audio makes these headphones sound next level.
Thanks for sharing. Why make things more complicated when the simpler option was easier and not a big deal?
That's exactly how I felt his gripes were things most people wouldn't even care about and I learned the volume control in seconds and find them way to use . The buttons are so simple to use in this unit.
Where did you find the IP rating? IPX4 is stated at 4:10, but I've only seen an IP rating on the Ultra *earbuds* not the headphones.
This. This is the real question...
I have a qcu, all these points that you have mentioned are to the point
But I bought this for the sound quality as Xm5 produces somewhat muffled sound
So I think if someone really cares about sound quality, it is perfect for them
I like my qcu a lot
xm5 no way can beat qcu
@@attilab.2818 nope, mine are fine actually
@@attilab.2818this is a game changer for me. Nobody talks about it.
Thanks for sharing
And sorry to hear
buy Sony if you are a casual listener and buy Sennheiser Momentum 4 if you are an EDM fan someone like me who favours bass and sound quality over ANC. Either way you've got your problems solved.
I have the Sennheiser M4 btw if you wanna ask any questions feel free to ask I'll respond.
@@MC_Shaheen1 may i ask when you are outside would you say the Sennheiser block out most sound with music playing on high-ish volume?
Personally, buttons with dual functions is okay as long as you don't have to use them on while you're busy on the move, like cycling, running walking fast etc.
And dual functions is the most 1 singular button should handle. But preferably some more physical buttons are preferable.
How is the call quality on the Bose Quiet Comfort? I’m glad to see you went with that version. The only thing holding me back is the call quality for phone and zoom
Thanks for the review, very helpful! How does the QC sound compared to the QC ultras?
I love mine…upgraded for the immersive option. Worth every penny for me. I’m a classical musician and these serve my audio requirements to a tee.
great to hear :) any complaints 1 month in or how's your experience been so far?
whats the experience like when switching between devices?
Thank you and thanks for sharing.
Did you notice any creak from the earcups when moving your head/jaw? I'm on my third pair now, getting super upset.
Yes, when I run or jump, making it useless for use in the gym. I'm not sure if its a defect or just how the headphones are.
Sorry meant 7.5!not 8.5
agree, comfort is the most important thing.
Amen to that.
Great review! Could you bend the headband with force so it stays a bit wider? That's assuming inside there is a metal bar.
Hi! Thanks for watching and the kind words. The Ultras have a lot of good too.
While I agree with you, its not a good look for a $430 headphones. MY options are limited to XM4 or Ultra. XM5 has shallow ear pads for my ear. The new QC seem to have some build quality issues.
@@TheFrenchGlow Agree. Technology improved a lot but the volume bar they provided on this is very cheap design and immature.

trying my QC ultra, coming from 35 II.
Where did you get them for 270??? Thnx for any info! :)
You scored a brand new pair of Ultras for $270? Where, the trunk of some guys car behind a Walmart??
Bose QC > Bose QC45>BoseQC35 and Bose QCultra stands in first for some users due to latest tech used in it or it stands after Bose QC.

@@attilab.2818Yes I did! You're a trooper for trying 3 sets. I swapped into the new QCs.

Thanks for watching! The ultras are good
I agree. I love mine.
this comment saved me a lot of time having to research the difference between the 45 and the ultra. thank you!
I've owned nearly every single pair of Bose QuietComfort going back to the 90s I just purchased quiet Comfort Ultras they set the standard comfort and quality no other headphones on the market level of quality a noise cancellation
wow, thats a strong comment! as someone who is about to buy a pair this is exactly what I wanted to hear haha
The battery life is advertised as 18 hours if immersion is turned on.
If you used them with that feature turned on, then they lived up to their claimed battery life, potentially even exceeded it.
most of these issues are pseuds for me. the interface (buttons, sliders) is something you need to get accustomed to.
right now i am looking at both of these...QC45 are 299 ( Canadian ) 218 ( US ) and the new QC are 379 ( Canadian ) 276 ( US ).....QC ULTRA 499 ( Canadian ) 364 ( US ).....which would you recommend as i am without anything currently....I need them for music and watching movies on my ipad.....great review by the way....thx....cheers from Canada
What did you decide?
I agree. Seems of...
I love my QC 35 but mine just started having the self power-on issue. I purchsed the new QC but they feel so much cheaper in quality compared to the 35 so im returning them. I think ill try the ultra next. Thanks for the review
really? I was also thinking on upgrading my QC35's, are the new ones not as good in terms of quality?
That's nice and all but does the Bose QuietComfort Ultra have a soldered on battery like previous variants?
as far as they last as much as before I don't mind, I have some QC35's with almost 10 years of practically day use and still work fine. I'm thinking of buying these new ones, but even that I can't rationally justify as the current one's are fine. All I've changed along the years have been the ear pieces, twice over the 10 years...one of the best purchases I've made...
if the qc45 just costs 50% of this one, which one should I choose?
Qc45. If it breaks, you can get another. Ultras if you want the best.
Everything is great
These headphones also fast charge. Something like 15 mins charge for 5 hours.
@@g4dsworld471can you turn off anc and use it like normal wireless headphones or you have to use the aware mode?
Some TH-camrs love a I returned them title.
what is the best for 400-500$ budget
look at some B&W's or Shure.
Agreed, no volume buttons, no NC button means I'm sending the back after 1 day of usage
bose needs to keep up and do something big, theyre falling behind all the competition and with their immersive audio stuff id hope theyll do a 100 hours battery life headphone to screw the competition
👍
Get Skullcandy for realisum and wow what a pair to get
what does being 6'4 have to do with head shape and therefor headphone's fit?
Yeah, I agree on the bass too. Soundguys said they were TOO bassy, but I felt like the XM4 was more enjoyable
the sony are bass cannons. The ultra's don’t
Great Video! I agree with most of these except the sound stage / improvements over the NC700. Still narrow compared to the competition and you can literally EQ the NC700s to sound like these.
I decided to get these as someone who has skull candy Hesh headphones so I feel like these are gonna be massive upgrades lol
Great review!
I bought the $430 QC ultra to test it against my 2022 QC45's which are already studio quality stereo excellence out of the box and those are going for $199 now
I don't need a motion swipe volume adjustment, noise canceling, STILL, MOTION and IMMERSION technology modes for $430
The 2022 QC45 already has excellent STUDIO QUALITY stereo sound and canceling with no need for equalization
While you're getting the same phenomenal BOSE sound, the new QC ultra is gimmicky
I also recently bought the SONY ULT but returned them the next day because I hate headphones that require equalizer adjustments to sound great. The SONY ULT is not great sounding, it sounds rather cheap to my ears (I'm comparing them to the BOSE)
The BOSE QC45 is still an unbeatable headphone and now that they're at $199 I'm going to buy 2 more.
@@TheFrenchGlow yea no more precision volume control either.
@@NVGEARhehe
Yeah terrible design decision. A deal breaker along with the tiny buttons and firmer, less comfortable ear pads.
Yes, if you use the included cable it will output sound to the headphone, it will the microphone on the Dualsense controller though.
Unpopular opinion for many but I understand it 100%
@@TheFrenchGlow Thanks for the replay. Did you do the test I suggested?
Great song and band group "BOSTON". Most All the best Rock n Roll band groups came in the 1970s.
Bose was a great win for me, except for not working with the 3,5m cable without battery
how long does it take to charge it?
I absolutely hate the proliferation of touch controls on headphones, to the point where I just won't buy a product if it has them. I'm still pleased with my Sennheiser Momentum 3 Wireless but I definitely wish the ANC was better and the headband adjustment gets loose over time. Not sure what I'll replace them with when the time comes, since they removed the buttons on the Momentum 4.
helpful video and covered a lot of the pain points that apply to me. Thank you!
I also returned my QC buds ultras. Different reasons but quality control and lack of multipoint were it for me
thanks for sharing!
Multipoint is on the new firmware, but connectivity is pretty buggy. Takes forever to get the connected
@@martin_wood really? When was it released?
I agree..sound was good but the software on the Sony wf 1000xm5 was smoother for me.
@@LvshdThe XM5s have a bulky design that for me was a big problem travelling
The bose ultra are the best in noise cancelling, really impressive. They are the best in this regard. I returned mine because the material is not worth the price (foam started to break in some places after few months pf light use)
Nice video. Does it support Apple Lossless Music?
I'm sending back mine today, exactly the same issue, really uncomfortable on the ears, i always have to take my earrings down which i didn't with me QC35s.
All the reviewers who said the ultras were the best ever just ignored this issue. Thanks for sharing your experience.
Cons that make them terrible choice:
- There's NO way to use them while charging (It's a total scandal in 2023/2024). So imagine if they run out of battery during the meeting you're doomed.
- The earmuffs tilt opposite directions than in any other headphones, so when you rest them on your shoulders the cushions are pointed up but the sharp corners of the outer layer are irritating your skin
And they haven't fixed it yet.
I returned mine and bought a pair of Sennheiser Momentum 4s. I would recommend people do the same. I was massively disappointed in the Bose Ultras.
Why?
Do these headphones leak a lot?
Because of this video I ordered the QCs, Thank you ‼️
I use my QCs as my daily right now. 👍
I have the QC35 II, and I don't like the design of those. If, in addition, those are not as comfortable as the QC 35 II and the QC 45, there is no way I will upgrade!
Is there a way that the Bose connects to airplane TV monitors for travel?
I bought Bose NC700 2 days ago.. I was watching youtube videos and googling comparions of Sony and Bose headphones. I have noise sensitivity so I was looking for good ANC headphones.
Im so new to high-end headphones. Before looking more into QC Ultra, I picked up NC700 at BestBuy instead of buying Amazon. I realized the issue with buying at BestBuy,, I won't be able to return once I open the box 😵💫
I still can hear noise with Level10 ANC on 700. But Im not looking for the absolute quietness. Im autistic n I have auditory processing issue too, so I need to be able to hear people's voice.
For the ANC adjustability, I went with NC700, then I found that QC Ultra does have adjustable ANC modes..!
Price of both headphones are not even that much in Canada 😅
I would like to know if ANC settings and functions are actually much better on QC Ultra?
You definitely can return opened items to bestbuy including headphones. Only restriction are prepaid phones and a 15% restocking fees on cameras lenses ebikes and a coupke more items. But headohones you can definitely return without fees.
I hate this pivot to touch and small buttons. I'm happy my quietcomfort 35 still works.
Got them for $260 on Walmart today lmao. Great value not sure I’ll be returning and haven’t even tested them yet based off price point
how did you get them for $260 and how can I buy it at $260?
@@TheFrenchGlow It was a mistake made by Walmart and Amazon early this morning. I think they discounted the wrong QCs but people were able to get the Ultras for $260 in that short timeframe. They are now back to regular price.
@@Tuan788😂
Did your headphones rattle while walking ?
hi, no they do not.
Wow. This could be the worst headphone review ever posted in the history of the internet.
Why??
dont be mean! haha I quite liked the review
First time seeing anything from this guy and his review is the only one that fits my experience - I just bought my ultras and I’m also returning them. The sound is excellent but my ears get way too hot due to the fit.
Ya I felt the same way…. Felt like he was trying too hard to nitpick small minute faults to justify his caption to clickbait us…😂😂😅
Anyone notice the bands on the ultras don’t slide freely and are difficult to move up and down?
It shouldn't be difficult compared to qc45.
So I see when I am trying to extend it’s pretty stiff and have to use 2 hands to pull out of put back in. I like the 35ii I had and click
I didn’t even realize kung fu panda was on until after. Hahah
Amazing video, thank you!
The plastic feels a bit cheap for the price. They could've used a higher quality plastic.
I am going to return them, because they are super uncomfortable to walk with. They have this clicking cheap plastic feeling that annoys me.
I decided not to get them simply because of the lack of sound quality in comparison to proper audiophile headphones. Got the Bang Olufsen Beoplay H95 instead
But there is like a 200 bill difference
How do they sound with true music?????
This is very helpful
Great video. One feedback- dont say "best sound from bose". Someone who does not have tried all these headphones, how are we supposed to distinguish?
Hi! Thanks for sharing. I own all the Bose headphones from the sound link to the ultras but realize sound is subjective too.
I just got mine. The only issue I have is the power button and bluetooth. WHY couldnt they separate the two. But I have a huge issue connecting to my PC and Phone together. It seems its one or the other. Anyone faced this issue?
The QC Ultra is factually on par with AirPods Max when it comes to transparency
Hi! It definitely sounds brighter for mid to high pitched noises to me.
Does anyone else get funny sounds with every footstep you take wearing these?
I do. dont know if im going to return them or not its very anoying
@@4cfingerborder98 I returned them and got xm5 trust me it is way better
Can he buy himself a Head Shrink, maybe then they will fit. LOL.
For the price and better fit, the Sept.2023 released Quiet Comfort (non-ultra) MSRP $349 now on sale for $199 also has more physical buttons might be a better choice than QC Ultra released Oct. 2023 MSRP $429 now on sale for $349 as of November 2024. The QC Ultra have Snapdragon 888 support for better connectivity to Android phones made from 2021 to present.
I got mine. I give it 4 of 5, fit/comfort being the biggest negative.
Yeah I was surprised on that. I imagine it's better for ANC to have a better seal
Thanks for sharing. As of dec 18 Bose updated the qc ultra earbuds but not the more expensive qc ultra headphones. 🤔🤔
