Well done video! I just bought a used 2019 Lexus RX350 and did an oil change. Sure enough, the oil filter housing was a generic aluminum housing. When I removed it, the filter fell out into my hand as well as a small disk because the cylinder was missing. Who knows how long it was like that and the Ford dealer I bought the Lexus from had just done an oil change. I was smart enough to have a new OEM Lexus (Toyota) housing ready just in case. THIS is just another example of why I have done my own oil changes since I was 13 years old (now am 58 yrs old). The MotiveX tools are also excellent and have used them for years now.
Great tip on the oil plug washer. My Tacoma washer has to be popped off with a screwdriver every time. Amazing that it sticks like that with the oil residue. Draining the filter canister is always a messy operation.
Enjoyed the video. I was pleasantly surprised to find out the car doent need to be jacked up to change the oil. I just ordered the filters, washers, and tool to remove the filter. Thanks.
don't forget to prime your oil filter next time you change your engine oil, man. After you insert a brandnew oil filter into the plastic oil filter housing, pour fresh oil into it until it's almost full and be carefully not to overfill it since it'll make a mess. The reason why one should do this is because when the 2GRFE engine is first started up, the engine sucks oil thru this filter chamber and feeds the oil up thru the galleries running all over the crucial places in your engine. If within that first second startup the engine oil is starved, wear could take place. It won't be noticeable, but trust me, you don't want those rod bearings and piston rings wear out much faster than their life expectancy! I've forgotten to prime the oil filter once, and still remember the sound of the piston rings grinding against the cylinder walls. The sound lasts for only about a second, but I think the damage is done. I'm not joking. You can actually here the difference of how a 2GRFE engine sounds with a primed or non-primed oil filter. However, to hear the difference, you've got change the engine oil very late at night to minimize ambient daytime noise.
Any plans on installing body side molding? I'm hoping someone can post a video on installing side molding for 4th Gen Lexus RX. Keep the Lexus RX DIY videos coming
In my opinion every car should come equipped with side molding to prevent door dings!! But that's a money maker for dealerships/body shops.. I would love to add it but my wife drives this car primarily and knowing her as I do, she would think it would spoil the look/style of the car..
I know the Toyota Corolla went back to the spin on solid metal oil filters in 2020, I would have thought Lexus got rid of these silly plastic cartridges by now too. Very disappointing.
This oil change was done at just over 5k miles and my maintenance required light had not come on.. I assume it comes on at 10k which is when the dealer will change the oil at no charge.. I just didn't want to wait that long..
@@tongo117if you're going to keep a car long term, I would change the oil at ~ 1000 miles to get the metal shavings out from the motor. Then follow normal OCI at around 5000 miles
Yeah that makes sense but I only recently heard of doing that with a new vehicle.. Dealer didn't mention it of course in fact they said oil change interval was every 10k.. I don't follow that I do it every 5k..
You shouldn't have to replace every time, the washer is soft enough to re-crush and seal. I always use again if I don't have one handy, and have never had any problems. But if you have it might as well.
The torque wrench measures the fastner's resistance to rotation based on how you set the resistance.. 18ft pounds of resistance on the filter housing and 30ft pounds of resistance on the oil drain bolt..
Did you find all products at Walmart except oil wrench and drain plug washer ?

I upgraded the filter housing to a metal one on the first oil change.

Thanks for sharing I’m super nervous to change it now I know and you helped me a lot thank you again
Glad to have helped.. Just take your time.. Good Luck..

Oil pan drain: tighten to 30 ft lbs, oil filter cartridege: tighten to 18 ft lbs

Thanks,buddy excellent video
You're welcome.. Hope it helped..
That plastic filter drain that comes with the filter can screw in so if you’re careful you might not get oil all over.
I replace the composite housing with the aluminum one. Only about $25 from Toyota on-line.
Great Video

Hell yeah, paid so much for the car , have these silly filters, room for error with these filters.
Doesn’t anyone use Costco Kirkland brand 0w-20 oil synthetic on the 2019 rx 350 Lexus. Mobile one is pricey
Didn't they revert back to old school filter cannister as before?
How much total did you ended up putting in? 6 qts?
I noticed on mines it took more than owner's manual stated.
I still had a little left in the 6 qt box so I'm guessing very close to the 5.8 qts stated in my owner's manual..
I have the same car. Thank you for the video. How do you reset the oil reminder on the dash??

@@tongo117 They say the Rx350 does oil changes at 10k miles, are you saying that is risky to do that?
I do every 5k but some will say that 10k is fine.. It's just a matter of opinion/preference..
Does this fit the 2021 RX350? Does not show on their website. Going to go with Amsoil and change fluids myself.
In the greyed out section on their page it shows "RX 350 (2007 - 2021) 3.5L 6 Cyl".. www.motivxtools.com/products/toyota-2-5l-5-7l-oil-filter-wrench
Thanks. I caught that after I typed to you. Thank you for your time.
Did you need to jack the front up at all?
No jacking at all.. There was enough clearance..
First oil change at the recommended 10k mi? ;)
I change every 5k which is when this first change was done.. I know that might be overkill but that's what I do..

Yes
What is the reason to change washers with every oil change? You are overdoing, inspect it and put the plug back.
cause it's my choice and my .29c
that and the car care nut said so. lmao..
