Hi MaCenna, a little advice on your tulips. You should take off all the leaves that sit in the water, so that mostly means only one leaf stays on. You also put too much water in your vase. Tulips don't like it. If you take this advice, your tulips will stand longer, and also be less slimy in the vase. Take it from a Dutchie 🌷🌷🌷🙃
I was just about to say the same thing! It stops the lower leaves from rotting in the water and making that decay smell, and also helps the energy of the plant focus on the flowers instead of the leaves.
Also, if you cut your stems at a 45° angle that'll help the stems absorb the water and keep them happy 😊
Right, ladies! AND! Use a sharp knife for cutting instead of scissors. 🙂

MaCenna, your Mama could place her paint tube holder board on an easel; which would not take up any wall space, and it would be mobile to move from space to space as needed, or desired, either indoors or outdoors.
For making ‘old gold’, a lot of times there is a base of red underneath the gold paint. It helps it look rich and warm- if you look at some of your more worn frames you may see it! x

I thought she should try to foil the gold - it looks amazing and doesn't cost THAT much.
A warm reddish-brown also works well as a base for gold!

You could also paint the base black, then use rub & buff for the gold & have a more antique looking frame. Or gold wax.
You could also use dark wax on yiur fireplace & buff it off to get the antique look that you where looking for. Also there is also glazing as a antiquing method. You put the glaze on & whip it off. Sounds like what you where saying your mom used to use.
Ok...I sure hope you read this... The living room looks stunning, and i know what a perfectionist you are with things but what blows my mind is that you did all that hard work and then put those cheap plastic switchplates up.. You should buy the nice antique brass looking ones or what I did was spray paint them in that antique gold. Anyone else surprised by the plastic switchplates?

If you want it hidden, do the paint tube hangup on the back of a large frame and hinge to wall. When closed, its art. But open and see all your paint.
That’s a good idea… Or even have it built as a hanging SHADOW BOX FRAME with a little carrying handle at the top to move it around more easily if needed.

When I go to the hardware store all dressed up, the associates always flock to me and ask what I’m looking for. When I go all disheveled, nobody even talks to me. It’s true! They really judge whether you know what you’re doing by how you dress 😂
Meanwhile, I go in my sundress and use the app to find what I'm looking for and only ask questions if I need to! 😂
Agreed. I always get random guys shopping there asking me if I need help, and I'm just like... nope... I'm good, so I always try to go looking a bit disheveled. Makes the trip go faster.

Tip from someone from the tulip country: I was always taught to cut the stems on an angle because it increases surface area, giving your flowers more opportunity to take in water (and nutrients if those are added to the water). It is supposed to keep your flowers better for longer! 😊
Not just tulips, but cut all flowers at an angle.
When you're painting something gold, we learned in art school that you should use red as a base color. It makes the gold really stand out. Black is a great base for silver, as well.

South of France! You must stay at La Colombe d’Or Hotel in the old walled village of St. Paul de Vence. Back in the day, artists like Picasso, Renoir, Chagall, Braque and made it their haven. AND, paid for their stays in art. The hotel is full of it…..in your rooms, too! It’s a true hidden gem just west of Nice.
I turned my office into an art studio, and I used two big panels of white pegboard to hang up all my paints. I got those silver metal clamps (old school office style), clamped the end of each paint tube, and hung them all up using the pegboard accessories.

Hi Macenna - lavender is in bloom in France from mid June to mid August. There is a chance the higher up you go the later the lavender blooms so if you find somewhere which is high you may be lucky in September! Living room is looking gorgeous!

Idea for paint clip board: install it inside a cabinet so it hangs on the inside of the door (kinda like the hanging teaspoons on the inside of your cabinet.)

IOD makes a line of molds just for adding accents to frames & furniture. You can use air clay in them or resin. They have some beautiful ones.
I have been meaning to make a frame for my tv for months. This is the exact motivation I needed to get it done!

Let your Mom know that Heirloom Traditions All In One Paint sells a wonderful Antiquing gel. I used it for my faux beams. Turned out beautiful!

I know you were kind of upset about it not matching exactly, but to me it looks PERFECT! The change between it being more finished and the trim being put in is so drastic to me, you did so much work and it looks great.
Hell MaCenna!! It’s me who left the advice about the staining! Just to clarify, I meant that you should go and buy something significantly darker than you think with gold in it, then go back in with your current stains after to get the right tone. It fills the wood with the depth and the gold that it needs. I think you thought I meant just using what you already have. Buying something much darker will help! (Perhaps like special walnut or maybe English chestnut?)

You could try looking in the small wood isle, scrapbook kraft isle.
I painted my TV frame before they started making frame tv's. My TV is the older style that really kinda looks like a frame. I painted it a base color of copper then used small sponges like sea sponges in different colors of copper. It turned out really cool. But the frame is much larger that came on that TV.

You can also mix the stains to make your own color so you don't have to do so many layers I do this all the time on staircases and handrails because the homeowners usually want me to match the floor. So you can make your own stain color by mixing them instead of layering. Hope this helps
I've seen paint storage hung with the binder clips, on a pegboard! It's so neat to see paint all displayed like that
They used to under paint frames red before Gilding. When I was 12 i babysat 3 kids who I quickly realizes were terribly frightened by thunder storms, it became our custom to drink cider or lemonade warm and eat cinnamon toast on the front porch and count the seconds betewwn the lightening and the thunder, 54 years later we still stay in touch even though I'm still in Toronto and they are on west coast!
In the UK the clips you are talking about for the paint hanging, are called bulldog clips x

Thinking if you make your mom a slotted box for the mdf to slide into you could make her paint hanger two sided for mor tubes of paint and put wheels on the slotted box for her to move it around. Hope that makes sense. Just another option to hand more and not have to attach it to the wall.

Maybe you could use pop rivets to attach clips unless you want the clips to stay attached to paint tubes. Please let us see the final product. Peg board would work too. Can you tell I’m obsessed!!!

I love the paint tube board too but have no room for it!! For a podcast and/or vlog I would LOVE for your Mom to share her studio and how she got into painting and what all kinds she does (watercolors? , etc.)
I used a 3/4” piece of plywood to hold my paints. I hammered in little picture nails and tiny binder clips to hang on them and hold the paint tubes. I decorated my board with a painting at the top and stripes for each row of tubes.
I was worried sick last week with the severe weather you had . I saw somewhere that parts of San Antonio were flooded. Craziest weather everywhere it seems , stay safe my friend. Can't wait to see you and your Mom's projects finished.
