- Today we ventured out to Haberfield. Arrived at 4:20pm for a 5:30pm Grand Opening. It was about a 3 hour wait before we had ordered and what can I say, I’m not too sure it was worth the wait. Don’t forget to like and subscribe to stay up to date with all my eating ventures.

It’s a Germany-Turkish thing. I appreciate him bringing something different, for what it’s worth his kebab is a Berlin style kebab but it’s going to take a while for people here to get the mind around it as everyone is used to the Sydney style kebab

I tried Spanians last night. Here's my thoughts:
1. The bread isn't Turkish, it's more of a soft Ciabatta. Not a good choice for Kebabs because it's too chewy. Should have at least grilled it to get the best out of it and make it less chewy
- He should have went with grilled Turkish or grilled Lavash bread
2. The spicy sauce is not spicy at all, even for someone with a low spice tolerance. Dissapointing.
-White sauce was nice though
3. Needs more filling- for $13-$15 there definitely wasn't enough meat, and the bread is not big enough to justify that price
4. Chips were crispy and had a good amount of lemony salt
5. The lamb and chicken was the same as most other kebab shops- nothing wrong with that though
-Just don't expect it to be unique or different to other kebab shops
So, the major differences that Spanians has to other kebab shops:
1. Bread- a downgrade in my opinion
2. White sauce- no better than regular yoghurt garlic
3. Spicy sauce- not spicy at all- seems to be just a drop of chilli sauce mixed with the white sauce- downgrade in my opinion
-Was better off making a house chilli sauce
was the salad good? what about the flavour of the lamb and marination?

thanks for the detailed description. Spanian talked about it in a video like he had the best kebabs in the world!! He was raving on how his team custom made everything and developed unique recipes. I guess his just a salesman promoting his business. His full of it sometimes.
@@RagingUtai The salad was a very small portion and just basic dry mix with cabbage. The lamb was no different to any other kebab shop. Tasted the same.

Good to see an honest review. We all love the Spanian but you can't just give his sandwiches a 10 because of that.
I also think it's a little strange he decided to put a kebab on to bread. Might be better off calling them Spanian Sandwiches or something like that.

What gets me he said all his kebabs come with tomatoes onions and cabbage. Every kebab shop I know you choose the salads and sauce just like subway. Remember the customer is the one paying. Some people don't like tomatoes sometimes it makes your kebab soggy. Thick bread too much. Pita bread and turkish bread is the go

Maybe the choice of bread is to keep away the Heads. They know it's an inauthentic kebab so they won't go. Keeps the place family friendly.

@@Edwardscissor yeah but like a lot of openers, it's not always 100%. A lot of people likd it, a lot said too much sauce, a lot said not enough sauce lol. Some like the bread, others say too much bread to chew through. I think under a normal load , and after some feed back, they can get of the complaints fixed, find the right balance.
I think as long as spanian has a fan base and grows, the business can succeed, if he puts out decent kebabs. What he should have done was put like a mini feedback tick list with every kebab, and have people fill it in.

The best Turkish bread kabab is from Noble Park Kababs. It's soak in meat juices so it's not dry

Kebabs are Turkish, the Turks use Turkish bread for kebabs especially in Frankfurt where many Turks migrated and when finally free from the influence of people who only want everything to be exactly what their impression of it is, or what they are used to it being like, which is pretty much what you are doing. Once in Frankfurt they refined the kebab further, still using Turkish bread, into something very very similar to what spanian is selling. They kebabs you are used to eating arent real kebabs, just like how most popular Chinese dishes are actually American and most pizzas have almost zero traditional Italian ingredients. The point I'm trying to make is you arent comparing types of apple here, it's apples to oranges. To expect your orange to taste like apple because it's a fruit gives the appearance of ignorance.

The turkish bread instead of pita/lebo bread is a subjective one.
But agree...I luv turkish bread but the texture(thickness) doesn't work with kebabs.
Should stick with convention.

Yeh I’m subscribing too that review was what I was expecting unfortunately Because the bread and no garlic sauce etc But I’d still buy one just to try it If there weren’t any good Yiros in the vicinity I guess he can change the recipe as more reviews roll in though I’m interested to see how his kebab biz pans out

From what i can see they are 'jailhouse sized kebabs' i prefer a traditional spit roasted over charcoal stones lamb, shawarma, Lebanese Tabbouleh Salad, traditional pickles, beetroot dip sauce, hummus, or onion yoghurt sauce or Lebanese kofta recipe lamb, an authentic pork greek gyros or Souvla or a kalamaki. Anyways at least OGG is giving it a GO~with failure comes success at the beginning. 🤔

It looks alot like these kebabs from the south of Sweden in Malmo where I lived as a kid and they come on Turkish or pide bread rather than the flatbreads.

So basically, you didn't like the bread too much... Funny thing is, doner bread isn't well known around Australia, because for some weird uniform reason. Australia agrees, kebabs are better on pita wraps. But just remember that's culturally correct & it's a popular way of also doing it, he just tried something different for us Aussies. Personally, that thing would be gun.

Nothing worse than a thick breaded dry kebab. It doesn't matter that this is the traditional way to serve a Turkish kebab. Just make it tasty with nice sauces. I won't bother making the trip. Not lining up for mediocrity.
