    I like the fact that he said that the reason it lasted was because of the maintenance and not just simply because it’s a Cummins.

    I agree the Cummins engines are great, I own one with 148,000 miles on it. The only issues I have with the truck is everything that Cummins did not make. Shame Cummins don't make the entire truck.

      Lol I agree I have a 91 with almost 500k on it but everything dodge made was junk back then but they have come a long way I have nothing bad to say about the newer ones I have a 06 with 260k on it that's been good to me

      Yup it's true with 1st and most 2nd gens 3rd they started making good parts with the Laramie interiors n stuff. 2nd gen Laramies have good interiors too except the dashes. Wasn't until late 3rd gens that they fixed that.

    Use your exhaust brake all the time with these trucks. It keeps the innards of the turbo sliding freely and not getting gummed up with soot.

    I started with a 1989 12-valve in a W250 that I ran for 21 years. Sold in 2 hours of the ad posting. The Cummins engine preserved the resale value. I currently have a 2006 Ram 2500 4X4 quad cab with the 325hp high output common rail 5.9 engine. It currently has 217,000 miles and runs perfect. I run fully synthetic oil. Fantastic engine!

    • @mqbitsko25
      @mqbitsko25 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I couldn't justify one in a half ton, but the HD pickups absolutely need the diesels. I had a 2.7 Ecoboost in an F-150 and THAT was a beast too. Nerts to a V8. Frankly, it acted a lot like a diesel at low RPM. Loved it! Install a PCV catch can and the Ecoboost is great.

      Every one of you are close to your B50. 12v (165hp)are cabile of a million miles but usually have re-freshes in the during the process. Ones without ive seen lack power Engines are metal on metal wearing on each other. Im a machinist by trade Ive built more engine than most people could imagine. The key to a engine that will live a long life is knowing when to rering new bearings new gaskets and lap valves. The reason newer engines not so much is because they turned the power up on the engines .

    +Braxton Sorensen No need to go to the dealer. The brake light and abs light might just be low brake fluid. The transmission shift problem is your governor solenoid. It's a big problem with a easy and cheap fix. A new larger governor solenoid is about $50-$60 bucks or you can go all out and get a heavy duty GM solenoid for $190ish. All you have to do is drop your pan and remove the solenoid and replace it with a new one. While you are down there get a new filter and/or new deep pan and/or 3-4 accumulator spring. I replaced all those including the pressure transducer. Lastly tighten up the kickdown band and rear band. All this can be done with simple hand tools.

    I just got a 2014 Ram Cummings 2months ago. Its my first diesel in a pickup. I know big truck diesels since I'm a truck driver for 25 years. Something to know, all semi trucks are inline six, none are v-8. The reason is inline engines last twice as long, well four times as long then a v-8 design. Its a balance design v design works against each other by pushing dead pistons up, inline uses the crank in tandem thus work with each other.. Also as you have pointed out, diesels need to be maintain to perform. Semi trucks hold 12 gallons of oil so they can go 25k, my 6.7 holds 3 gallons, so I'm thinking 12k. Manual says 15k,

    • @Tunknatar
      @Tunknatar 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Twice as long? Eh.. not really, Four times as long? HELL no! If this is the case, PLEASE explain to me how the 7.3l international engine ford used to use in their pickup trucks, has logged over a million miles, on numerous occasions?

      Make sure you get the Aisin (Japanese) transmission. But any way you look at it you're getting an Italian truck manufactured in Mexico, but with a great engine.
      The injectors just want clean fuel. Install a quality filter.

    • @Jaxboy86
      @Jaxboy86 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 47re can last a long time as long as its built properly. If you rebuild it with OE components you will be rebuilding roughly ever 150k. Build it with billet components, extra or fatter clutches, billet shafts, billet torque converter and flex plate and update the valve body with billet components it's a great transmission. Gotta spend roughly 4k to get it that way but worth it if you keep it a long time.

      Kenyon Payne there's no such thing as a cv joint in the front end of a Ram pickup. And I don't think you understand how a TC works. Spoiler alert: they can't "wipe out" an entire transmission.

    EGR and DPF systems are not going to let the 6.7L last like the 5.9s did. The EGR destroys the engine.

    Great video just a question about the engine brake with the turbo back pressure. When the driver pressures the switch on dash for engine braking full back pressure. Does that override the Ecm control of the VGT to vary the duty cycle on the turbo actuator Thanks. Mark

    • @FireSneaks83
      @FireSneaks83 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Mark, the act of pressing the switch does not mean you are manually controlling the exhaust break, if that's what you're asking. By pressing the switch, you're allowing the computer to control the VGT on the back end/exhaust brake electronically when you let off the gas or brake. There is no manually controlling the VGT. Hope this helps

    I've always been a fan of the Dodge Ram D250 and D350, because they're available with the Cummins Turbo Diesel. I've always been rather old-school when it comes to diesel engines. As much as I appreciate cleaner emissions and being able to breathe cleaner air, I've always been skeptical of the emissions standards that the US-EPA have been trying to get car makers to meet. I see them as unrealistic, at best. Therefore, I've always preferred truck engines like the Cummins 4BT and 6BT diesel engines. The 6.9 litre six cylinder and 3.9 litre engines would be perfect conversions for anything that was never originally offered with a diesel engine.

    after the emissions the added power actually equals the same as the 5.9, the torque is a little higher, but the milage is no better if not worse, i drive a 2003 5.9 pushin 800 hp that gets 20mpg, i can make the road behind me disappear, and my friend driving a 2007 6.7 just put in a smarty delete and 5 inch turbo back, and his milage increased by more then 5 mpg when he isnt still playin with it, so in the end the 5.9 is still a boss
