    Hey Fred, it's a nice warm day, there is about 4 inches of water on top of the ice and it's been 55 degrees the past 4 days, let's take the truck out on the ice.

      Only some kind of moron would drive on frozen ice, as if it wouldn't start to crack. That Truck alone is close to 6000lbs. My 2016 Scion TC is 3,124lbs it's a 2 door car that weighs over 3,000lbs. That's a heavy boat with a V8 that weighs a ton, what did he think was going to happen on the ice.

      It's a way of the north IF there is lots of ice!! But then you get stupid people that think any ice is good ice to hold a truck, and then everyone see's these kind of videos and thinks that all trucks fall through the ice. Meanwhile thousands of trucks drive on the lakes each winter and 99% of them drive out and drive back off with no problems. In the early 1900's they use to drive teams of horses pulling logs across frozen lakes.

    You guys did a great job, how ever you work way to hard, I worked a good number of these situations with a company that uses a lifting unit on two large platoons center over the vehicle drop four cable hook one to each wheel lift high enough to clear the ice and skid the complete system off the ice, in open water the rig can actually float every thing all accomplished with 3 people.

      @edduda3  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Randy wallander we use a barge and crane or air bags and tow it in with open water. This case the ice was garbage.. there was no way of putting a mega cab diesel plus rigging on it. I was thinking a Sikorsky CH-53E to sling it out...

    When I was a teenager in the late 50's, my brother and I got caught on an ice flow in Lake Erie. While we were able to swim back to the shore, many ice shanty's, vehicles and gear were lost on the ice as the large ice ob probably ten miles square, broke up. Many folks were rescued off the ice with helicopters and boats.

    Right at 3:16 you see an oil slick pop up in the water. Certainly an indication that some kind of vehicle or machine is right below. I don't know....maybe this comes from being born and raised in Miami but I would not feel comfortable driving a truck out on a frozen body of water. I know people do it all the time and I guess every so often they hit a thin spot in the ice and lose their trucks. My cousin was also born and raised in Miami. He has lived in Minnesota for the last 10 years and he does the ice fishing thing. They tow big camper trailers out on the ice so they can stay out there with all the comforts of home. His trailer is one of those ones that have retracting wheels so the trailer lays flat on the ice. They there are holes in the floor of the trailer so they can fish in the warmth of the trailer. Heat, satellite TV, bathroom, etc. But no need for a cooler...just put the cold stuff outside. LOL. I don't know how he does it.

    Hi from South -Western ontario Canada I love hard water fishing and experienced the same as pictured on a few years of this sport. in my case it was caused by hitting a spot on the ice sheet caused by leaking gas wells underwater from the surface about 2 feet in diameter that you cannot see travelling at 5 -6 mph on 16 to 24 inches of ice. but with little body damage just had to dry it out and change fluids. and spend 24 to 36 hours of hauling gear and working in a T shirt to keep from sweating too much.Too Much Fun!!!!!!!
    Now a days I use a good used Ski Doo Tundra wide track wit a 550 fan cooled machine studded track with low gear intact.i can climb the ice ridges with a floater Arctic Jacket. and gps.

    I've watched vehicle recoveries where they constructed a boom over the hole and set the vehicle back on the ice and towed the vehicle back to shore. There was no body damage but to recover a vehicle that way the ice would have to be at least 12 inches thick .

    • @edduda3

  • @Geo-oe8ce
    @Geo-oe8ce 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I’m sure there’s a reason but it seems it would be easier to cut the hole in the ice next to shore, float the truck just high enough to clear any obstacles on the bay floor and winch it in underwater till it reaches the shore rather than floating it to the surface way far out and having to cut a path to the shore.

    • @edduda3
      @edduda3  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It would be easier not to do it period. But Bc of ice conditions we bagged floated pulled to shore by hand 🖐 and tow truck it up the rock ledge. We normally like a boat ramp or good ice to pick it up on.

    Why does the truck look all smashed up in the underwater shots? Does damage resembling an on road crash occur as it falls through the ice? Also looking at the interior of the truck underwater it looks like some stuff was pulled from the dash like the stereo was ripped out. Any chance the truck was purposely sunk to cover something up? Owner crashed the truck and decided to sink it and have insurance total it out? I'm not trying to accuse the owner of fraud but it looks strange from the point of view of someone that has seen cars go into the water for various reasons. In Miami plenty of cars and truck go in the water but they never look smashed up like that in the water. So when they find a vehicle in the water down here certain things can point to accident or purpose. Smashed up front end and electronics missing from a vehicle in the water usually means it was dumped either by the owner or someone that stole it.
    Just saying....it wouldn't be hard to stage that. Drive the smashed truck on the lake, set up camp like you're fishing then when nobody is looking (night time) beat the ice under the wheels so it breaks through and sinks. Then call the police, salvage crew and finally the insurance company. Again....I could be 100% wrong as I have no idea the kind of damage that ice can do to a vehicle as it falls through.

      @edduda3  5 ปีที่แล้ว
