Ok, I'm officially concerned for Tom Sawyer's Island. With so much of the experience not available, heck, all of it, what does the future hold here? While I don't think this will get the boot like at Magic Kingdom for so many reason, do you think we might see a time when we just can't go out there and explore? Heart hurting with you, David!
1/3+ of the park is down for retheme/refurbishment right now, why would they stretch the resources any further at this moment to fix up the island. Hopefully they will put some energy that way when they are caught up, but feigning panic over this, especially after the backlash that they’ve received over Magic Kingdom isn’t necessary. Relax.
The Disneyland Tom saywer will be fine because of a few reasons 1. Fantastic is a financial benefit 2. Unlike the magic kingdom version the Disneyland version really doesn’t take up that much space by comparison, and while it seems different the riverboat, canoes, and the island itself eat up way more people then Magic’s. 3. They just spent millions to re route the river and update the train so if they didn’t do it then they wouldn’t do it anytime soon. 4. Everyone forgets unlike the other WDW parks magic can’t really expand that far out because of the utilidor and the swamps make most land near magic kingdom unable to build or at least build anything tall and substantial. Disneyland park actually has more land that can actually be built on because of DL forward.
My dad had several cast members friends when they were building Splash Mountain. He would always tell us how he got to ride it during the CM previews when not all the animatronics were even installed or dressed yet.
When you showed the cast members in the logs testing the system I had to laugh. My daughter is a Fantasmic performer and a parade performer and they always use them to test out rides late at night after their shift. They say it's so much fun to do that.
A little more info on Small World: It will close on September 16th (1 month earlier than normal), reopen for Small World Holiday, then close AGAIN after the holidays and reopen later in spring. Sounds like whatever they’re doing is gonna be some more in-depth maintenance work, which I’m happy about. Small World definitely needs it.
I grew up with it as Pirate Island. I have always been a fan of Disney history so I called it Tom Sawyers island but even though we have the best Pirates the theming has to stop at the exit because NOS isn’t the Caribbean. So the island is the only place to walk around and be immersed in some Pirate theming. I hope they don’t get rid of that and give some love and updates to the caves and trails
I am coming to Disneyland for the first time in the last two weeks of September. Coming from the UK so it’s been planned for a while so can’t change it. With so much construction and ride closures can you reassure me that it will still be a magical trip. We have Oogie Boogie tickets and a 5 day hopper so have plenty of time to experience both parks and some California sights. Your vlogs have been instrumental in us making the decision to do Disneyland instead of disneyworld and we love them all. Hope it’s not completely shut down when we get there lol😁. We’ll be on the lookout for you ❤
We can give you one secret to having a magical visit… Look for the good. If you’re constantly waiting for something bad to happen or concentrating on what you’re missing, you’ll have a terrible time. However, if you leave all about the online, clickbait, headline grabbing negativity of the internet behind and simply enjoy the experience, then you will have a fantastic time. Disneyland is a mindset. Whether you’re looking for the good or the bad… you’ll find it. Look for the good. And HAVE FUN!
Don't worry there is plenty to do, Try and do everything and get and use Multi Pass Lightening lane and Single use lightening lane, The time you save will be worth the money
They are the same pole that the ride has in WDW. They are light poles with music speakers on the top. There is also wiring that looks like the period criss crossing the poles.
Disneyland is Art but it’s also Commerce. There has always been a tug-of-war between the two factions: Imagineers vs Profiteers. When the Imageers are the ascendancy great things happen. When the Profiteers we see staff cutbacks, price hikes, and deferred maintenance. Too often, the view of the suits is shortsighted. Their bonuses are based on yearly profitability. If you can defer maintenance until the next fiscal year, you can make this year look more profitable than it actually was, leading to bigger bonuses and dividends. The truth doesn’t come out til the next year when maintenance costs skyrocket. To keep this from happening the company needs a visionary at the helm, someone who thinks long term.
16:18 I think that gate is further back than it looks. In the concept art, you can see what looks like a gate between two walls near where the old perimeter was. I think that gate is actually in the concept art and that is close to the start of the new line that was ropes previously. It's hard to tell what the depth is back there. 18:30 I think VERY far left, almost out of frame, you can see the same gate running along the wall near the entrance. I think they are still following the concept art. Obviously with surprises
23:36 That might be the safety people making sure there's a path for those that might not be cleared for that area to get to another area. Happens in spaces like this.
Thank you Dave for the updates. It all makes sense to me all the updates. Have to have everything working and looking good for next years 70th anniversary. Just like they did in 2014/2015 with all the clean up they did then as well.
I already have flights, hotel, park tickets, Halloween party tickets, and time off scheduled for mid to late September and just found out they added Jungle Cruise and small world to the list of closures. I do not have the time or luxury of rescheduling my trip. This is so ridiculous.
That is the current state of Disneyland in Anaheim. If it were me I would ask for a refund. You can start at guest services. If that fails most large corporations have what is called the office of the president. They are your last court of appeal. I know from experience in corporate it could help you. Godspeed
Well, since you can’t reschedule… we suggest going and having a wonderful time in the park. Of course, this can ONLY HAPPEN if you concentrate on what you can do, rather than concentrating on the closures. Disneyland has much to offer those with a good attitude and a positive outlook.
It really bugs me that the bucket line in front of the treehouse never seems to be operational. I always loved to stop and stare at it working as a kid.
Even if the rear queue area at HM takes another 6 months to complete, they may be able to finish and utilize the other new areas of the queue much sooner. Makes me wonder if they might be able to remove the virtual queue. But knowing their desire for control, I suspect they'll keep the virtual queue through the high-demand holiday season.
I know I'm in the minority here, but it is way too damn early for Halloween. Halloween and Christmas are my 2 favorite times of the year. But celebrating them 5 months out of the year makes it seem not so special anymore.
Just wanted to give you a shout out for your park science videos - they really helped with our visit this weekend! We also definitely noticed the severe lack of Entertainment. Man we really need some non-ride activities back
I feel Disneyland's Tom Sawyer Island is only safe due to its use with fantasmic. Feel like it would be on the chopping block for some sort of ride due to limited space in Disneyland.
As it should be, even as a kid I wished they would turn it into a ride. The only way it would make sense though is if they build a new way into it without interfering with the boat.
I imagine the Coco Boat ride will be of similar size to Shanghai Pirates, so that amount of space would be perfect. DCA is still in my opinion not worth full day price ticket and so anything of quality helps at this point
The tiny walls at the main entrance to Disneyland is probably to fix one of the light poles. There should be 6 light poles but in your footage you can only see 5.
Thank you always for the updates! Extremely relevant for me right now as I will be in the park in a few days. Can't wait to go but a bit bummed as it feels like so much of the park is closed or under construction right now. I'm sure it will be a magical day nonetheless :)
The sounds were working fine in the treehouse on the Thursday before and the Saturday after you filmed this, so it was probably a brief hiccup while you were there. 👍
Not sure if you saw but pirates lair at Tom Sawyer island is closed for refurbishment for 3-4 days mid September. The 16-18 and 19th. Hopefully that means they are fixing some of this stuff?
As you and many others have stated they are Intentionally neglecting Tom Sawyer Island at DLR, We really need a campaign to save ROA and TSI at both Magic Kingdom and DLR!!!
I think the duck you caught at jolly holiday is the one we've nicknamed "churro"! In July it came to us 5 and went to each person demanding churro bites, and tried to eat my son because he wouldn't give a churro lmao. He's now a fav memory .
When will we get the Adventureland Bathrooms back?!? They could have built an E ticket attraction in there for how long they have been out of commission.
Did you know that long gray building you mentioned in your Google Map houses a cast member break area as well as the staffing office for attractions 4 DCA as well as the Disneyland Fire Department so no that ride will not go there and the building back in the corner is actually called the cycle shop it is where the ride Vehicles go to be repainted
Those functions are fairly easy to move to different backstage areas. If Disney can create a new underground CM break room underneath the Haunted Mansion queue, they can incorporate the space needed for break rooms and other functions above, below, or around a new ride building. There's definitely space back there they could use for a ride.
@@rustybroyles725 it was my understanding (from the time that Cars Land was under construction) that the parade warehouse is between Radiator Springs Racers and Incredicoaster (a long building that probably fits floats 2 wide if I were to guess). Given how infrequently DCA runs parades anymore (boo) they should easily be able to fit Viva Navidad, Frightfully Fun, the Green Army Men jeep, the Avengers Jeep, and even the recent Pixar parade in there.
as @Brian-12345 said, those are very easy to relocate, and if you look at the concept art from Pixar Pier, they have intended to use the Pixar Promenade as an attraction entrance for a while, they just didn't have the right attraction in mind yet. TBH, I would expect them to be able to fit break areas within each major area of the park and we would never even notice. IMHO offices can EASILY be moved to an offsite location if necessary and as for the cycle shop, that could theoretically get moved into the plot of land where Avengers expansions are going given there are other backstage buildings back there and the only one I know the function of is the Red Car Trolley barn. Don't forget they moved some backstage things offsite already when they build Runaway Railway and Galaxy's Edge, and naysayers said it couldn't be done then. Also I've seen people post that one of those is a parade warehouse, but I remember reading on micechat back when Cars Land was under construction that the parade warehouse was between Incredicoaster and Radiator Springs. And let's be real, any parade that is seasonal can be stored in a giant warehouse offsite and only brought onsite when needed. Like Frightfully Fun, Christmas Fantasy, Viva Navidad, Lunar New Year, those can all be stored off site and brought onsite just before they are needed for performances.
Also, the parade vehicles for DCA are stored in the grey building when there is a parade, everything you mentioned is easily moved, and most of the office space that was in that building was already relocated to the new administrative building next to Cars Land which also goes below grade and that space was being used as a temporary break room. Construction on Coco will not begin until 2026 according to Disney, they probably need that time to start relocating services.
Watch from Indiana Jones queue for clues- they might need to partial drain Jungle cruise to fix the Temple Arch. Will be visible -and if they put up walls thats it definitely.😊 11:59
Thank you for always reporting on what’s going on in the resort. Also, I really appreciate that you are using your voice to point out things that are not being maintained like TSI. That was very disappointing to see how many things are permanently in disrepair. Why would anyone want to go and utilize an area that is not maintained.
@@akydo7070 then that has nothing to do with the comment, the OP meant Disneyland specifically I assume. The WDW management/WDI teams are separate from those of DLR. DLR is updating and fixing the parks, WDW is not
@@coasters_bgw they both answer to the same guy bob iger, they Both got Bad tiana ride/ splash down grade and both teams Thought by making a star wars land being around new movies era was good idea , any body with brains would say no keep it geroge lucas era
I think the Coco Show building goes there, the queue goes where the parade turns around now (because DCA parades are not going to survive (they're barely alive now)) and Paradise Gardens is rethemed as the entry way to Disneyland Forward
I think you’re right about the placement of Coco. But, I wondered if Disney might move Monsters to that spot and then replace Goofy’s Flight School with Coco. The Latin esthetic is in that corner of the park.
Imagine if they turned Tome Sawyers Island into an awesome play area for kids.... I really don't think they are going to get rid of both Rivers of America. I think they are going to make it more like DLP.
I have a great idea. DL should build the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train at the fantasyland theater location. Do you think it would fit there Dave? Perfect location. We can dream. They just haven’t made use of the theater with much worthwhile in my opinion. I ride like that would be spectacular.
The space you think Coco will go does seem like the perfect place, but there is a big issue: that rectangular building is a parade garage. Where are they going to move that to?
My question on that location in Pixar Pier for Coco, is the parades. I suspect that area is where the have to park and turn around any parade between the first and second show. So I'm sure they can't take up that entire space. On the other hand, if they re-routed the access road basically where the two far buildings are, they could get a good sized show building back there and still maintain the space needed for the parade floats. I wonder what is in those buildings behind the Incredicoaster. Obviously one is the show building for Midway Mania, but what are the other three?
Ty Dave for the Tom Sawyer's Island update, Hey Brickey just posted a video justifying the reimagining(demolition) of ROA area for a Cars ride, due to the neglect of the island(quite a video), so I had to referenced you and your footage of how bad Disneyland's currently is, keep up the good work.
It is so stupid that they put up seasonal decorations months ahead of the seasons. It seems that the maintenance people could do the changes during the closed hours of the park over a matter of days, closer to the season change. Are they going to change to Christmas themes before halloween?
The halloween season (shows, cavalcades, characters, after-hours events) starts on the 23rd. Also, yes. They start putting the snow on the castle mid-october
@@michaelchronister5831 Sure, but when you are already set up for it, know what you are going to change out, and have the replacements pulled from the warehouses and ready to go, it can be fairly quickly accomplished. I was watching a behind the scenes video on TH-cam of the "Price Is Right" show, and with all the different sets they use, they were quick to change them out, without interrupting the show. Generally, is was done during the commercial breaks. The key here is advance preparation and having props which are easy to swap out. The folks at Disney are well prepared and the only thing that slows them down is when they have to tear down and rebuild areas and buildings.
@@coasters_bgw Well applying snow in mid-October is possible. In Central California, our nearby mountains can start accumulating snow by the end of September. From where I live, I can be at the snowline in about an hour to hour and 1/2. I could accept snow on the castle in mid-October. But NOT Halloween in August.
Some of the most beautiful things in this world exist in simplicity, and are unfortunately the most overlooked. Simple and low-key is not synonymous with useless or worthless. I wish it was understood how valuable and beautiful the island is. It's really sad to see it being neglected while everything else is getting refurbished. The little things need some TLC, too!
I love how they camouflaged Tiana's bayou mountain with a Gilly suit. It used to be a very interesting focal point to look at when it was splash Mountain but an interesting focal point is boring. In fact I think they should camouflage all of the rides so you can't see any of them. Wouldn't that be interesting?
David i measured out the approximately size of pirates of the caribbean and its about 2.17 ac so its a good chance that the coco ride could be located where u mentioned in pixar pier especially if they used the area of that unused road behind the park.
Me too David, cant get used to bayou, it will always be critter country to me 😊 Heartbreaking to see the tom sawyer island like that 😞 it needs a lot of TLC. Disney please at least clean it and fix whatever is broken. I love TSI.
Before they removed the submarine ride at WDW operations made sure when the execs visited that their was water inside on the floors. Soon there after the ride was scheduled for demolition.
If you look at Tiana’s Bayou Adventure there’s workers in the barn that seem to be looking at something up. It could be the Tiana animatronic in the barn!
Im so sad about the island. It’s the only place for kids to run around and play. It’s really magical when it all works. The cast member with the beard on the raft was the one who told me I had a bad attitude when i said it was sad that the island features were not being repaired.
Now that is extremely out of place. An attitude problem. It seems that if you don't like the mess the park is in. You are the problem. Call guest services and report.
If they are fixing the Piranhas they might be Draining jungle cruise temporarily. 10:50 and access to the Archway for replacement. And the sound of gunshots at Treehouse is odd. Someone shooting at the Ostrich? 12:42
So terrible that they’re not letting us have the full experience of Tom Sawyer Island. We all pay a lot of money to go to Disneyland, you think they could keep that open my kids love that part of the park. Especially with so much shut down right now at least give us all of Tom Sawyer Island.

I watched Woodys roundup at the Golden Horseshoe when I was little, was awsome
Watch from Indiana Jones queue for clues- they might need to partial drain Jungle cruise to fix the Temple Arch. Will be visible -and if they put up walls thats it definitely.😊 11:59
Thank you for always reporting on what’s going on in the resort. Also, I really appreciate that you are using your voice to point out things that are not being maintained like TSI. That was very disappointing to see how many things are permanently in disrepair. Why would anyone want to go and utilize an area that is not maintained.
Really concerning stuff for Tom Sawyer Island.
They are updating and fixing the park (putting money into the park,) that is a good thing.
not when your gutting rivers of America for cars lol
@@akydo7070 that isnt in disneyland lol that's an entirely separate resort across the country
@@coasters_bgw i know iam talking about Disney as whole
@@akydo7070 then that has nothing to do with the comment, the OP meant Disneyland specifically I assume. The WDW management/WDI teams are separate from those of DLR. DLR is updating and fixing the parks, WDW is not
@@coasters_bgw they both answer to the same guy bob iger, they Both got Bad tiana ride/ splash down grade and both teams Thought by making a star wars land being around new movies era was good idea , any body with brains would say no keep it geroge lucas era
The brown poles for Tianna’s que will for sure have shade of some sort. You can see the hooks at the tops of each pole
Thanks for the detailed updates!!
Hey David, can you do a show that lists all of the ride closures in Disneyland and DCA and approximately opening dates?
That would be handy
That's called the disneyland website
Great update!
Imagine if they turned Tome Sawyers Island into an awesome play area for kids.... I really don't think they are going to get rid of both Rivers of America. I think they are going to make it more like DLP.
9:44 that was a sad O2H :( they need to fix the back side of water
Thank you so much for the updates! ❤
Like the start of Main Street clear to see projections on castle during fireworks.
It doesn't have to be this way
@@davidculver5446 What?
I have a great idea. DL should build the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train at the fantasyland theater location. Do you think it would fit there Dave? Perfect location. We can dream. They just haven’t made use of the theater with much worthwhile in my opinion. I ride like that would be spectacular.
I measured this out once, it would not fit unless they took most of Storybook and Casey Jr. Or scaled back the coaster.
@@michaelchronister5831 I'd rather keep those things.
The space you think Coco will go does seem like the perfect place, but there is a big issue: that rectangular building is a parade garage. Where are they going to move that to?
Thank you David for all the work that you do for Fresh Baked! 🌟💗👏🏻😎
Thanks so much for this update!
That's in Magic Kingdom in florida luckily
It is so stupid that they put up seasonal decorations months ahead of the seasons. It seems that the maintenance people could do the changes during the closed hours of the park over a matter of days, closer to the season change. Are they going to change to Christmas themes before halloween?
The halloween season (shows, cavalcades, characters, after-hours events) starts on the 23rd.
Also, yes. They start putting the snow on the castle mid-october
As someone who did set dressing at a point in my life, no, it takes longer than you would imagine to do a changeover operation of that size.
I'm wondering if they considered cutting some of the rails into twelve inch sections and selling them in the gift shop.
I saw water running in Tiana’s at around 4pm on the Tuesday after D23! Didn’t see any boats but water!
I’m not 100 percent sure but the box on the front I think it’s a light post, or was one.
I am ready for Halloween time at Disneyland winky blinky Mickey Pumpkin now at town square
Train break room has the signals equipment inside. 15:03
Great stuff! Thanks, Fresh Baked!
I am glad Jungle Cruise is getting refurbishment very soon
Me too David, cant get used to bayou, it will always be critter country to me 😊
Heartbreaking to see the tom sawyer island like that 😞 it needs a lot of TLC.
Disney please at least clean it and fix whatever is broken. I love TSI.
Before they removed the submarine ride at WDW operations made sure when the execs visited that their was water inside on the floors.
Soon there after the ride was scheduled for demolition.
Yo FreshBaked I love your vids going back to Disneyland February 2025
You love his vids going back to Disneyland February 2025?!
That’s a long time!
I am so sad about Tom Sawyer island. One of my favorite places. So sad to see this happening. It feels like some of the magic just being taken away 😢
Looking forward to going for Halloween on the week of September 9!
I love Monday morning updates. So hard no good views to see anything oh the anticipation
Dave at 35:45 you mentioned they may not want us to see something, but did you notice the 3 Disney security guards standing around the area?
Starting to wonder what is working, and what is open... It is a bit depressing.
If you’re wondering, the Disneyland website can answer your questions.
Could it be that they intend to do a major refurbishment of Tom Sawyer Island and therefore are not doing piecemeal patch-up work in the meantime?
I wonder where they will put all the back stage stuff to make the ride
That's a Gunshot sound for the stove -what the heck?...😮
If you look at Tiana’s Bayou Adventure there’s workers in the barn that seem to be looking at something up. It could be the Tiana animatronic in the barn!
i thought the coco dark ride was going to take out
Paradise Gardens Bandstand and Goofy's Sky School
And one thing I noticed my past 3 visits in 4 months on the jungle cruise ride is the captains pistol didn't work for the hippo scene.
They’re skippers, and the pistols absolutely do still work in the hippo scene. You just have gotten lucky.
The soundtrack recording is broken. Obviously. 13:06
Great job, Dave, As always !💯👍🥂
Always appreciate the great videos! 👍👍
The sound of gunshots is from jungle cruise.
I think the new avengers ride is going behind Luigi’s. Kind of makes sense because it backs up to doctor stranges old place
So, what you’re saying is that it’s going where Disney said it would go, and where the concept art shows it going?
Haunted Mansion is looking good!
So terrible that they’re not letting us have the full experience of Tom Sawyer Island. We all pay a lot of money to go to Disneyland, you think they could keep that open my kids love that part of the park. Especially with so much shut down right now at least give us all of Tom Sawyer Island.
It's ridiculous how many rides are going down during this busy summer season.
New HM queue & gift shop open with OG Haunted Mansion in February would be fine by me… maybe not many others 😂. The OG HM will have been closed all 2024 during it’s 55th anniversary year😢.
I was there yesterday!
Is there EVER a time when all the rides are open?
yes
@@coasters_bgwYou beat me to it. Well stated.
During Walt...yes.
@@davidculver5446 Still is! They're just closing things for refurb so they're all spick and span for the 70th
@@davidculver5446 There still is. The problem is, if they didn't do this maintenance, then you'd complain about the sorry state of rides during the 70th. They will all be open during the 70th. This is maintenance to prepare for the anniversary
Thank you
6:52 Likely for more foot-traffic to reduce more crowd bottlenecking.
I’m finally flying out there since 2019 and it happens to be the week of the 16th 🫤 Just in time for all those closures
There is also a permit to construct a DVC show room at the former Innoventions building.. So no new Tomorrowland for at least a little longer lolll
No one goes to Tom Sawyer Island! Because it's all broken. Because no one goes to Tom Sawyer Island! Because it's all broken.
I remember the old Island without all of the gimmicks like the sunken pirate. We just ran around and went through the caves. In Dead Man's Grotto (Injun Joe's Cave) it was just some mood lighting in a few areas and audio of water dripping.
Wait… did you say no one goes to Tom Sawyer island! Because it’s all broken? Wait… did you say no one goes to Tom Sawyer island! Because it’s all broken?
