- In this video, I run through the process of installing a 12 speed SRAM Eagle cassette (10-52 in this case) onto an XD driver or freehub body.

Had to remove one of those cassettes recently to get a spoke protector disc off. Had to apply great force to get it off. Who ever installed the cassette applied too much torque. I used the same Park tools as you. Good instructional video.

Should be tight enough to 40nm or once u do enough till it sticks clicking
Same here. Mine was torqued to 80 nm. Insane!🧐 But everything seems working good. Threads look good, too.👍🏻

I’ve used HG driver vs XD driver for 6 months each. I then removed the cassette and noticed the splines on my HG was marred up by the cassette. BUT my XD was totally unmarked and looked brand new after a good cleaning. SO in the end, I sold the HG and kept the XD.
Great video! I got the Eagle off, and cleaned it and the hub, but couldn't figure out how to get it back on. It seemed like it would take too much torque to get it back on. I watched your video and there it is. Just slot it in and turn with the tool. Thanks!

Man these can be really tight. I had to use all my strength to break it loose with basic 9" long tools. I'd definitely get better longer tools if I was to do over.

52 tooth gear is the same on all cassettes, GX thru XX1(other than graphics). If you ride and climb allot on the 52 tooth, they wear , sharpen, bend fairly quickly in about a year. Your getting GX quality 52 Tooth gear, no matter what level you pay for..

Got 3 seasons ab 5500 miles of many climbs on my older gx 12 speed with the 50 tooth granny. I replaced the chain each season.
When I put the cassette on I turn it backwards until I hear it click then thread it on so I know I'm not cross threading it
Yeah, the cassette needs to slot into the splines of the XD driver before you start threading it on.
I just had to remove an HG compatible free hub and it was tricky because it had to be in unfastened from the disc brake side. The 12mm hex wrench can only fit and connect to the bolt by removing the bearing from the disc side and getting at it that way.... thru the hub

I am getting slight lateral play on my newly installed cassette 12 speed xd. Do i have to tighten more? I have reached 40Nm torque

Having a 11 cassette and upgrading it to a 12 cassette. Would that need to be tuned ?
Do you reco grease or anti-seize on the XD body threads? Video didn't mention this, but I imagine it is necessary.
The cassette comes with anti-seize applied. I apply grease on the XD body threads as well.
Any tips on doing this without a chain whip AND without an extra piece of chain?
Use your bare hands. Grrrr
i imagine you have figured something out by now but you can use an old rag to grip it, just be careful!
So I purchase this cassette for the performance and looks but I couldn’t find the XD driver, can you tell me what XD driver you have, it’s been a nightmare trying to find the correct driver; all I know the cassette is a XG_1299 and my thru axle is 12x148mm.

You need to get the XD driver from the maker of your rear hub. Most of the high end hub makers like Stan’s, Industry Nine, Oynx, Chris King to name a few, have plug and play drivers that swap out without tools. Most make HG, XD and Microspline. Personally I think XD is the best.

I think it is. I generally use it most days, but some of the other mechanics don't use it at all. I think it's useful for doing tubeless tire installs and removing/reinstalling cassettes without damaging the disc brake rotor.

generally yes
Wheel bearings no, freehub bearings yes, the casette should just pull off with the freehub to do the wheel bearings!
no locking on the outside at the end?
No, Same tools as a cassette, but it's all built into the cassette.
U have to use the park tool 5.2 GT I used the same tool and broke the teeth in mine and had to replace mine 🤨 wasn’t happy
If the 5.2 GT works better for you, then that's what you should use. All of the FR-5.2 family of wrenches use the same spine interface. We generally use the FR-5.2H at the shop because it fits a very wide range of cassette/wheel applications.
