  • This video is all about permissions! My top tips for getting them, proven techniques and advice. Below are some links you may be interested in as well as an example email I used to get my permission in Cambridgeshire

    www.ncmd.co.uk
    My example email:
    Dear Sir/Madam,
    My name is xxxxx. I am xxxx from the xxxxx area. I have just bought a metal detector and i'm looking for a permission to search some fields in the area. I've had some trouble so far in my search. Most of the farms I have visited already have a few detectorists that use their land but i've been advised to keep trying!
    I appreciate that some farmers are not keen on metal detectorists due to some being irresponsible and causing problems. I can assure you I am very responsible and I would be willing to meet with you to discuss further if you would like, so you can see what sort of person I am. I'm very new to detecting but my grandfather used to detect and I would like to follow in his footsteps.
    Please would you get back to me if you would be willing to allow me permission to detect on your land. If the answer is a no then I thank you for your time. Please could you let me know this so I can remove you from my list.
    I look forward to hearing from you.
    Kind regards
    xxxx xxxxxxx
    Good luck and let me know if this brings you any success!!

    Once you’ve got your permission, now you need to know how to physically get out there and detect! My best tips are in this video:

    I found this site when searching for informatiom on how to get permissions. I got good sensible information and I enjoyed the presentation. I very much liked that Tom and Marie were presenting as I have just been bitten by the desire to detect from various sites on TH-cam and have not even bought a detector yet. ( Budget allowing). Both my wife and I want to take this up as a hobby and get some excersize as I have been advised by my Doctor. We are both pensioners and this may combine this with our love of history, (if we are lucky). By the way, I have subscribed.

      Hi Gary welcome to the channel and thank you for your kind words! I think it’s an excellent idea to get into the hobby! It is great for exercise both physically and mentally. I definitely recommend attempting to get a permission before buying a detector (opposite to what I did 😆) but if you aren’t lucky enough to get permission right away then there are other options such as group rallies/digs, beaches etc. if you do decide to get a machine or even two then please check out dragon detecting and use our code for a discount! Jordan at Dragon Detecting is a superstar and will help you if you need it! Or just ask any questions you have on here and I’ll do my best to help!

    Well done guys at least you found some nice items. The first coin you found Tom I could see the face and some writing. My new permission I just got was being polite to the tractor driver so he could get onto his land, he was the owner. Good tips there Tom for people starting up. Take care you two and I will see you on the next.

      Thanks mate! Yeah sometimes it’s all about timing and being in the right place isn’t it! I actually haven’t cleaned my finds from that day yet (it was only a few days ago 😆 ) but I’m hopeful some will have some better detail on them! Thanks for watching mate :)

    Another chilly one haha!! Great video with some good tips, this one is high on my list of 'to do' videos as I get asked to do it a lot. Personally I think your missing a trick with the thumbnail. In your last tutorial video intro to metal detecting, the thumbnail wasn't great, there wasn't even have a metal detector present on it. Remember that the thumbnail is the most important thing about any video you ever upload. Look at the thumbnail I made for my beginners guide, its got me in it using a detector and detecting a hand full of gold and silver. It has bold text and stands out and gets people clicking. If I was you, I'd improve your thumbnail game, it really does pay off to think about, plan and execute a thumbnail and spend half an hour or more creating one

      It was freezing in that wind 😆
      Yeah I get a bit tardy admittedly when it comes to thumbnails. I tend to spend a while making the video and then just thrash something together for the thumb… maybe I should do the thumbnail first in future 😆 appreciate the advice though mate, I’ll have more of a think going forth

    Hi thanks for the useful information
    I intend to record, document and upload my detection adventures through social media.
    Do you mention this when asking for permissions? Any tips

      I used to but would often get met with strange looks and been told by other TH-camrs not to worry about this! As long as you’re respectful and don’t advertise where you are you should be ok! Some farmers don’t really understand TH-cam and social media and it could scare them off! Obviously if they see you recording and ask you not to then you should respect their wishes!

    Hi, I have a question about 'common land'... Spoke to some young farmers who said people detect regularly up on the moors near me as is 'common land'. I was under the impression though that I'd still need permission from the land owner, probably the crown estate, which would effectively be impossible. Can you clarify whether 'common land' works in the same way a beach is ok to detect on, thanks 👍

    • @Treasurehuntingwithtomandmarie
      @Treasurehuntingwithtomandmarie  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I couldn’t say for sure, my understanding is that you still need the permission of the landowner. Personally I would play it safe and not detect there but it might be worth asking on some Facebook forums and see what other people do/say.

      @@Treasurehuntingwithtomandmarie Thanks it's what I suspected, but tbh I've all but given up hope on this hobby, another blank today making my grand total of interesting finds to 0 after months of trying. It's perhaps not for me, doesn't help the Dr Otek is inconsistent garbage, but that said I'm just about done, but gave it a decent shot I think.

      @@Gimboid79 I started out with the dr otek and found a few bits, but when I got my simplex it really opened everything up. The dr otek doesn’t even compare in all honesty. If you’ve got the bug and you enjoy being out and about I would consider an upgrade to a more powerful machine. Finds will come if you have the patience!

    • @Gimboid79
      @Gimboid79 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Treasurehuntingwithtomandmarie Thanks, just getting frustrated that it's so damn inconsistent, never get a repeatable strong signal, it's almost random l. I would upgrade but finances don't allow... I envy anyone who can blow £500 on a machine just to try a hobby! It's also very difficult to find new permissions, right now the only spot I have is an a pasture farm which is a quaqmire thanks to the cattle. I'd go to a Celtic heritage event but they are £60. I'm sure I'll get out there again but boy is it frustrating. Grateful for your encouragement though.

      @@Gimboid79 I was fortunate that I had £300 that I could spend on my simplex. There are cheap machines out there, you can get a second hand simplex for maybe £200 nowadays. Permissions are hard to get but when you put the work in and the farmer says yes, the feeling is great! All about patience this game :)
