I think the future of true games ownership is digital through DRM-free marketplaces. At this point I'd say purchasing games through the GoG marketplace is closer to true ownership of modern games; as opposed to buying discs that act more as your approval key to access the game software installed to your harddrive.
It's a shitty thing, but I feel like modern consoles and their marketplaces are where you have the least amount of ownership over your games, and that's why I think I'm moving to PC as my primary gaming platform. Doubt I even pick up the PS6 or new Xbox.

I don't blame you moving to PC based off of where things are going. I would imagine many people will do the same. If it's all digital, then that will be the place with the most games overall vs any competitor. Especially with Xbox and PlayStation porting to PC first party titles. If you have a beefy PC and whatever Nintendo makes you will mostly have all your basis covered.

It's crazy that Xbox got so much scrutiny for being a monopoly in the gaming market and they get pushed so hard by gamers and others to open up their library of multiple platforms but clearly they have been and still are struggling hard to even be competitive with games. People were saying PlayStation is going to have a dry 2024, and yea, they don't have a lot of first-party games coming out this year, but their third-party and second-party deals have been more than enough to keep them flush just 3 months in.
Helldivers 2, Final Fantasy, Rise of Ronin all big releases and it's just March. Xbox hasn't dropped anything out side of some of their quality games like Hi-Fi Rush and Pentiment and soon to be Sea of Thieves also on PlayStation 5. I mean come on, it's not even a competition right now when it comes to which platform is delivering better, new gaems to their audience, to start the year.
Xbox needs every quality game it can get at this point, their production has been a complete mess for years.

I can't argue with you on this one. PlayStation has definitely been putting out some winners, where XBox has been quite.

Xbox has a world class high quality series in both Forza and Forza Horizon. If I were them I would be learning everything I could about how those studios are consistently executing. Will be very interested to see what Playground does with Fable. Even though its very much not a racing game, I have alot of faith simply because they never seem to miss the mark.

Yea man I feel yea, we will have to hold onto the places that are making smaller runs for those of us who still by physical. Reports about the new PS5 Pro are that its digital only with the option of adding on a disc drive. Slowly removing that choice and making it inconvenient for you to still play your disc based games.
