So much virtuous color in his style. Gives that feeling that he could put any thought into his fingertips and make them sing. This is my first time listening to his playing, and I'm amazed.
This song i9 just love it!!! I met Tony when i barely knew who he was. I knew he had his own stuff besides playing with Vai, so i met him after the G3 2003 show in Chicago, nobody paid attention to him, but we went to him and he was very happy about us recognizing him. He was probably happier to meet me than i was to meet him. My friend who made us go to him he got one of his cd's , and thus i met him. I regret a lot not to ask him for an autograph now. I'm a big fan of his solo work and CAB!!
Today he is basically using a Carvin DC 127 and DC 727. The 727 is his 7 string version of the DC 127. They are great guitars and can be had for around 1,300 dollars new.
You're welcome mate. This song is off that record aswell as a lot of other great ones, such as Key to the City, Hundreds of Thousands and Tears of Sahara! Hope you enjoy it.
hah, i had this cropped out and ready to post, but i totally forgot. well, at least one of us did it. the more we post tony's material the more recognition he gets, so keep em coming!
I cant understand why Tony appears like a simply keyboard man of Steve Vai in the G3 Tour, for me Tony is one of the best Guitar Heroe of any time, He must have his own G3 Tour with Master Vinnie Moore.
Look at the D&B of the band, goddamit they really are at the same time both taking it and having fun all over it. The Album "King's Cup" is Highly Technical and Controlled Piece of Craft, yet almost insane in it's nearly supersonic yet definitely superagile attire, It's definitely beastly (who the hell has trained a leopard, a tiger, a gray wolf and a bushmaster to work as a Team? Tony!), This piece of music Will excite every musician for the next 100 years, everytime it is found. It has it.
while this song is not really a showcase for his rythm skills, tony is very well-known for his powerful ryhthm skills; you may need to hear more of his work to see and hear it.
tony macalpine was never a 'glammed up yngwie clone' his style was unique and he is also a talented pianist. if you ever see steve vai live youll see tony on guitar and keyboards. tony macalpine invited the sweep-tap also.
The only thing cooler than Tony taking us to the woodshed is him looking like he just came back from chopping wood. Love the stage look....nuttin' but business, where's my ax?
There's already a G3 tour with Tony... Devil Slingshot tour nyahahahahaha!! Sheehan, Donati and Macalpine together that's what i call a fucking good G3
His n1st two lp's were great! The others seemed to watered down with compression, delay, reverb. His guitar tone was totally lost. All that said I'd still listen to him than most.
Single coil size maybe, but I cam more than bet they are humbuckers. Like a Seymour Duncan Hot Rails or others. That`s my guess anyway. Who wants to put up with 60 cycle hum? Plus what drives any amp better or sounds fuller? Single coil sounds are mainly reserved for excelling at clean "Strat" sounds.
Im just listening 2 - premonition. That makes 7 Macalpine albums 4 me now. In march this year im doing the Air guitar comp. an if u can guess what song im gonna do, then your to good. This guy is way hot. Also check out my youtube 4 other hot axe players.
ok 2 things, #1 i hear ALOT of vinnie is tony's playing and ALOT of tony in vinnie's playing. they almost sound the same. #2 all this talk of drummers can they compare to peart?
It is funny, because most of the neo classical guitar players dress like if they were in medieval times, and he is so relaxed about his image, lol. Anyway it is good 5/5
I don't mean to sound racist at all or anything so I hope this doesn't go misunderstood... but when i listen to it I far from imagined a black guy playing this O.o I imagined some pale european dude with hair down to this thighs head banging. This sounds great!
He was in G3, but only as Steve Vai's keyboard/rhythm guitar player, I know, it's very degrading, but if Tony felt it otherwise, he'd have refused it and done his own thing.
Tony is one of my all time favorite guitar gods, but I have to agree that his timing does seem off here throughout the song. He's having fun, and that's what matters, but the precision is definitely off. It's just noticeable enough to affect my overall enjoyment of the song. Otherwise, still a good song.
Hey Mr Paul: I`ve never known Tony to use single coils. Not even single coil size humbuckers in the bridge position. His timing sucks? What are you talking about?! That`s not even worth answering! Any slightness of notes/issues please excuse him. What he`s playing is not "smoke on the water". Plus he`s playing with no effects so there`s really nothing at all to hide behind. Quit being jealous!
@Gaishredic i believe you mean Mike Terrana, and peart is drumming better than Mike Terrana even at his old age. you forgot the effects age can do to a drummer. thats why people try to compare Peart to younger drummers in these emo shit bands. pearts has been drumming longer than others have been alive
There was a time in the late 80s when I could hardly get Tony's beautiful melodies out of my head.
So much virtuous color in his style. Gives that feeling that he could put any thought into his fingertips and make them sing.
This is my first time listening to his playing, and I'm amazed.
tony macalpine a true virtuoso not only in guitar.. in piano too.. such an inspiration to us!
Love to hear Tony and love to hear Mike Terrana

My guitar teacher asked me to watch this (I love shred)... he's amazing!
This instrumental is so fast and intense, that the pixel agrees with the video itself
Beautifully done and presented. Hard to believe this is not in the studio but a live recording.
Legend Of Shred Guitar!!!!!!
Tony MacAlpine sounds really good here. I have him on Steve Vai Live at the Astoria in London dvd. Maximum Security is one of his best.
Tony was great at composition, like this piece. I don't know what he has done lately though.
Today he is basically using a Carvin DC 127 and DC 727. The 727 is his 7 string version of the DC 127. They are great guitars and can be had for around 1,300 dollars new.
I love his tone...

The God of guitar is only one.
hah, i had this cropped out and ready to post, but i totally forgot. well, at least one of us did it. the more we post tony's material the more recognition he gets, so keep em coming!
Awsome!!! very genius

Beast on Drums Human on Bass God on Guitar
tony macalpine was never a 'glammed up yngwie clone' his style was unique and he is also a talented pianist. if you ever see steve vai live youll see tony on guitar and keyboards. tony macalpine invited the sweep-tap also.
Anyone ever heard the studio version of this song with Jeff Watson from Night Ranger?
The solos in that version are absolutely mind blowing.
OH, and another little known fact, Tony was a concert pianist at 12 years old...
2:23-2:26 is hands down the most insane thing i have EVER heard.
Thanks leandrolobo. Ive heard of mike. I will have to check him out. thanks again.
ahhh thank you very much :)
Macalpine is the only neo-classical 80s guy that I like (beside Yngwie when he first came out....not now) A huge cut above the rest.
Increible Macalpine :D turur tu ru trurururruuuuuu
how the hell does he do that tapping thing with the arpeggios. i havent seen anyone else who can do that as fluidly as tmac.
Best ever!!!
I want to see this as dual guitars...like the record it's more powerful.
macalpine is the fucking legend!!
This fucking rad.
He have a nice tone! that the kind I am looking for
@ShaneRaweewon I feel you, my man. We are out there, Hell I play a lot of Yngwie, Joe Stump, and other neo-classical metal.

Awsome! Crazy tan though.
hes not only god...he is the god of all gods!!(well most)
thanks mate. it looks like b.c. rich to me too. maybe a assassin. the headstock looks a little different, thats why i asked. cheers mate.
@stratonakos Mike Terrana... You could just read the description
im related to this guys fathers mother brother
His n1st two lp's were great! The others seemed to watered down with compression, delay, reverb. His guitar tone was totally lost. All that said I'd still listen to him than most.
is that neil zazas bass player i think his last name is johns he is great !!
the drummer is mike terrana
i love his hip-hop outfit while he plays this ´6/8 horsey sounding metal lol
is that tommy aldrige on drums. i know tommy played drums for vinnie on minds eye and so did tony (on 2nd guitar).
Yeah thinking about it, it looks like a gunslinger. Thanks mate.
DAMN!!!!.......HE stole all my $&*#!!!!!
In this video he's using a BC Rich
now hes using Carvin guitars.
And a super tan I guess... Thanks!
its not fair i showed this guy everything he knows on the guitar yet i still get no respect
1996.
Im just listening 2 - premonition. That makes 7 Macalpine albums 4 me now. In march this year im doing the Air guitar comp. an if u can guess what song im gonna do, then your to good. This guy is way hot. Also check out my youtube 4 other hot axe players.
@Unknownbmxr / Funny you mention that as I always thought he would have been awesome with Ronnie James Dio!
I'm so confused, how many macalpines are there? What happened to the glammed out yngwie clone one? Whered this black guy come from?
It definately looks like an STIII to me, But it could be a custom gunslinger 3 or something like that.
because he's fucking awesome!!!!
Seriously though, a guy that can play guitar like that can wear whatever he wants.
guitarrista colaborador de steve vai wonderful
ok 2 things, #1 i hear ALOT of vinnie is tony's playing and ALOT of tony in vinnie's playing. they almost sound the same. #2 all this talk of drummers can they compare to peart?
I went to MI in ´95l! OMG the drums, the keyboard, the guitar - the overall sound is so corny. These people have no shame..
Maximum Security, for sure!
It is funny, because most of the neo classical guitar players dress like if they were in medieval times, and he is so relaxed about his image, lol. Anyway it is good 5/5
what guitar is he playing?
p90's
I don't mean to sound racist at all or anything so I hope this doesn't go misunderstood... but when i listen to it I far from imagined a black guy playing this O.o I imagined some pale european dude with hair down to this thighs head banging. This sounds great!
Come on he is just a dude playing guitar, some really fine guitar I might add! What does what he's wearing have to do with anything?
HE IS GOD
Who is on drums?
@CreatorOfChaosxx Loomis does not belong in the same group as those players imo. he is good, damn good, but not in the same league.
otherwise i agree.
@BirdOfPreyvsSparrow Let me guess, you're a justin beiber fan right ? Or maybe you're a Boy George fan from way back.
it was the 90's. haha
Not really sure what you mean, Tony was and always will be a black man..
you can hate me, but i like him more on piano
He's no Blackmore.
bc rich rulezzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
He was in G3, but only as Steve Vai's keyboard/rhythm guitar player, I know, it's very degrading, but if Tony felt it otherwise, he'd have refused it and done his own thing.
es parecido a los buenos tiempos de vinnie moore
lol.. that was funny

He's having fun, and that's what matters, but the precision is definitely off. It's just noticeable enough to affect my overall enjoyment of the song. Otherwise, still a good song.
Same guy, he just cut his hair.. He does far more jazz work now..
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, what are you saying? Not sure what you're listening to?
Look closely...he using the pick of destiny!!
Yes.. He's better.. I like both, but TMac definitely has the edge as a musician.
Nah,it matters, image should enhance the music,I rather just listen to the record instead.
I will sell my 10 Guitars😂
No hablo burrito
i know its a b.c. rich. not what kind
I don't see why he'd want to be Cobain. He isnt worthy to be Macalpine's toilet paper
i agree, thats all, im going to be a jerk and only say i agree
WTF!?!

Pretty good - but am I the only who one found his tone pretty weak in general?
What drugs are you taking? different style but sorry Yngwie is a monster.
Better enjoy the sound rather than read nuts you all talk about. :)
No effects? Are you nuts? That ain't clean, kid.
