It's adaptable, but too many are stuck in the yi ji Kim yeung ma, asking hand bs, than actual applications. Chun is abstract, leaving what people consider " wing chun" to vary tremendously. Couple things that seperate good chun from guys just using martial or fighting without the art side. Covering while attacking or defending while offense. See how guys throws a round kick and leaves himself open up top or a straight or a wild over hand while leaving the other hand low. Always open, no offense not saying anything bad about him hes in there fighting but this is what seperates chun from just fighting or brawling. Also attacking from the shortest distance in chun say his front hand not his rear when the guy gets in range not only is it slower do to it takes more time to get the guy but its telegraphed. 99 percent of so called wing chun guys come in with a round kicks and wild hooks and tend to be striaght and linear never cutting angles.

Point karateka don't kick legs cuz it doesn't score unless you trip him so if they kick it's a calf or even ankle kick.
Also they do punch their faces quiet a lot it's just that there being basically no combos tucking your shin makes no sense because evading is much better than blocking because it's only AT MOST a 1 2 and you need your hands low because you need to block the body too, so at most you see tucked chins very up close in a phillyshell esque position (it has a japanese name I forgor).
You should check some full contact karate (not kyokushin, that's knockdown karate; which is full contact too but that ain't the name) it's basically uninterrumpted point karate with judo throws ocasionally. Very similar to the kenpo stuff you showed the other day.

    • @1individeo
      @1individeo ปีที่แล้ว

Point karateka DO Kick legs but the technique is different. In Kyokushinkai it is more like a muay thai low kick, while in shotokan it is more ashi barai or sweep and much lower at the calves as opposed to kyoku and MT who kick on the thight

When people don't pay attention to openings like with that lead leg thing at the start I can't help but think it's because they've got a particular fight agenda in mind like going for the core or face or something. Whenever I played street fighter I'd ignore a lot of openings/opportunities to strictly stick with special moves since they're cooler. I bet these two were just being way tentative though n feeling eachother out a bit first

  • @SuperBusle

This is not Wing Chun. At least not what I've learned. Wing Chun is there to quickly counter attack in a way that the opponent is not able to fight again. This looks like kick boxing or karate or a mix of several things. Wing Chun is a self defense style that wants to end a fight as quickly as possible, by hitting sensitive body parts with rather deadly precision than this sparring thing what they are doing.

Karate Bushido is a french monthly magazine about martial arts. The youtube channel was created by "GregMMA" (the host) and is linked to the magazine. "GregMMA" is also a trainer and may be the owner of the Macabi Gym (where the video was created).
"GregMMA" speaks english, he has made a video in Netherlands in a famous kickboxing gym and has spoken in english to the gym management. He is part of a larger team (from the magazine) and you should have english speaking people in the team. Since their watchers and readers are only french speaking, they could be interested working with to comment in english the fight they created ?

About the Bruce Lee comparison, I don’t think Bruce would have his hands that low or kick like that. His early background was highschool Boxing, where he actually won a tournament, and Jeet Kune Do’s Stop-Hit interception counter system was about stuffing a strike with another strike, which is much easier with a high guard. He’d probably have his lead hand low for flicker jabs, but likely a high right hand for blocking and power shots. As for the kicks, his sense of balance and hip mobility was incredibly high level, like, whether he was a high level fighter or not is a point of contention in the martial arts community, but I don’t think anyone would dispute that the man was a high-level kicker for sure

I'd say that we couldn't be sure about that, fighters don't always fight in the same way. It depends on what his plan for that fight is.
Furthermore, his usual Jeet Kune Do stance had one low hand so he isn't exactly a strange to having low hands.
Now then, most of the arts that he knew about had high hand stances so you are mostly right. He got a lot of his kickicking from Savate which has high hands, same with Muay Thai and Boxing.
Now then, unless you wanna rush in, trapping is better done with a stance that doesn't have the hands that high. Like i said, it all depends on what he wants to do in that fight

    Not a wing chun guy.
    Reasons :
    - Bladed stance, lead hand too far out, his front kicks are more savate style, spinning heel kick.
I think he probably has wing chun as a secondary martial art , his main martial art style in this fight is something else and definitely not wing chun

That has nothing to do with wing tsun. I don`t want to start a fight, which style is better, etc. because this would lead nowhere, but what I´m sure of, is, that this is not close to wing tsun. For instance, his weight is constantly on his front feet, there is no jumping like a boxer in wing tsun, no round kicks in wing tsun, etc.

That guy is not using textbook Wing Chun. I like the sportsmanship both of them show but this didn't seem like a very good example of both respective fighting styles at their core. Still takes a lot of time and training so respect still!

It's a mystery to me why the so-called "Wing Chun fighters" don't really use Wing Chun so often. The karateka here sometimes does more Wing Chun (acting in chain-like strokes from the center) than the "wing chun" man ...

    • @mattm56

I was going to say this. The guy in black seems like a decent fighter but I really didn't see anything resembling the famous Wing Chun style. He was basically boxing or maybe kickboxing.
Wing Chun may have lots of benefits but from what I have seen combat effectiveness is not among them.
A lot of theory, tradition, stances, and techniques get tossed out the window when people actually fight vs: doing forms or demonstrations.

Im on a roll today reading the comments and I cant blame anyone for knocking what they've seen. But on the contrary there is sparring in chun but only a handful of lineages "schools" do it. Funny story trained with a handful of lineages but applied is the only one I know of that actually spars and uses actuall chun techniques. In china they train with the thais in camps and these guys are no joke real mauy thai schools with champs. 1st time we mixed it up with them they laughed when we put on shin pads and our guys asked if they wanted them because what theyve seen and heard of but after about 20 mins they switched it up put on pads. They never seen it before actuall chun that utilizes chun and fights with it. Same as when we went into a mauy thai school recently in va, wanted to run a chun class in there facility, the owner and teacher was like lets see it, not sparring against us just wanted to see us move around. After we showed him how we do and train things he was was like thats what I pictured wing chun looking like i always heard it was good in street fights. This guys been around martial arts for over 2 decades. Legit dudes but it doesnt make chun invinsible or mystical its a abused art that has unfortunately been watered down like alot of arts overtime.
