Psychedelics Are Now Legal in Australia-With a Catch

  • Australia is a nation known for its conservative attitude towards drugs. So the approval of psychedelics for use in psychotherapy in 2023 came as a shock. Maybe more shocking was who got it done - an opera singer and her former investment banker husband, who kicked up no shortage of controversy along the way.

    That Stephen Bright is so short sighted. The reason people die from MDMA is because contamination or dehydration. Both things that would be solved if the compound was decriminalized and regulated, advocating to keep it criminalized only ensures more and more people will die trying to experience this treatment.

      Most ppl who are hurt by MDMA actually overdose on water by consuming too much, im not sure if that translates to deaths also though. As far as contamination I don't think it's fair to even call that dying from MDMA. Realty is all traditional psychdelics are safer than alcohol and cigerettes though so these arguments about harm are so ridiculous.

    There is a serious problem with this media outlook and info being put out by this video and also misleading title. MDMA keeps being repeated in tandem with the research and use of Psilocybin which is incorrect. theyre 2 completely different drugs and also used for 2 completely different mental health related things so shouldnt they be reported as such, individually? and not combined into 1 video? People are gunna get confused. For example: mentioning people dying off of the use of MDMA in festivals and then talking about psilocybin research at 4:00 this is improper reporting and shows lack of knowledge; in context with this comment: there has not been a single known reported death from psilocybin mushroom use. There is no clear differentiation between the 2 by the journalist which is my issue.

Still trying to get my hands on some more without getting busted for importing what might be seen as "distribution amounts" of around 20 units.
      When the government bans vapes but not cigarettes and allows alcohol while banning dope and LSD - two of the least conflict inducing recreational drugs I can think of, you really get the impression that they don't actually care about our health as much as they claim that's the reason for the ban in the first place.

    Of course, when people take it in unsupervised situations, not knowing what they're doing and not being mindful, these things can be dangerous or even lethal.. It's still the government deciding the degree to which an individual may have access to, a relationship with and experience of the natural world. It is still a group of people deciding under what circumstances an individual may have this experience, and surprise, surprise! - it's within a clinical setting, with someone who doesn't really care about them, with large sums of money involved! Well, what better way to achieve an understanding of one's own integral part in the tapestry of the universe that facilitates the healing of psychological trauma than within the confines of a heavily regulated capitalist infrastructure? And so the tyranny continues.

      Totally agree. They have no business facilitating these experiences on a purely scientific model. They do need to have an assistant who has had significant experience with these molecules and understands the liminal spaces accessed to guide in such cases where deep trauma is amplified or full blown awakenings occur. An empathetic or compassionate psychiatrist is not sufficient to avert a spiritual awakening becoming a spiritual crisis.

    • @georginawhitby1320
      @georginawhitby1320 16 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      You've noticed who will be given the power to prescribe these , and that they aren't necessarily all trustworthy. In fact this very odd legal change effectively enables psychiatrists to weaponize very powerful substances , right at a time when our state has taken a totalitarian turn, and when they have made plans for massive expansion of mental health incarceration and involuntary commitment. Remember the recent pattern of substances becoming compulsory in certain contexts as soon as they were allowed ( not even approved )?
      The AstroTurf designed to launder this very odd law change is nonsensical. People using these substances in traditional ways don't need reclassification or legalisation of the substances they just need decriminalisation .
      The changes beyond decriminalisation ( legalisation and reclassification) are mostly an enormous gift of power to psychiatrists , and effectively , by extension, to the state .

    People die at festivals because they mix drugs and go too hard/don’t drink water/have a heart attack/don’t know what they are taking.
    Most people who have taken MDMA etc know that it does great things for their mental state.
    I am past that time now, but know that if I could find these substances now it would help remove the creeping negativity of age.

    It's refreshing to see politicians listening to logic and the facts when making decisions that could help so many people.
