Lovely to see all that old school footage. History. No sponsors logos on the clothing until television was more involved in golf. In 1965 when Peter Thomson won his 5th Open (Birkdale), he was paired with the late Tony Lema for the last 36 holes and they only had tv coverage on the 16, 17th and 18th holes (on the weekend). It was also the last time the Open finished on the Saturday, 1965. Peter Thomson had 35 putts in his final round 71, hitting all by one green in regulation.

1965 was the last Open to finish on the Friday. From 1966 to 1979 it was scheduled for a Saturday finish and from 1980 to the present day it’s finished on a Sunday except the 1988 and 2015 championships which finished on the Monday.

Wow, to be in that gallery watching 4 super legends playing together. Bobby Jones, Tommy Armour, Gene Sarazen, and Walter Hagan.

Dont forget the greatest player of the small ball Peter Thomson , the only player to win 3 British Opens in a row in the 20th Century. Oh and he beat Palmer Player and Nicklaus in 1965 We forget just how good he was and we forget that it was he that took the game to Asia Japan in particular

Playing in flared pants would’ve been tough, Jack possibly could’ve won more majors with stove pipes, great video 👍🏽

Great film and then came the next chapter Tiger Woods. Sandy Lyle was asked what he thought of Tiger Woods and he replied “I don’t know I haven’t played It”.

No not really De Vincenzo Player and Snead have more world wide wins by a huge margin

@@jacktattis It's not about where you win. It's who you beat. Most of those worldwide wins were against feeble opposition.

@@andrewrobinson8305 Feeble hell my friend many of the modern players cannot even use a wood wood
And many of the foreigners did not even play in the USA
The USA was not a welcoming country back then e.g. Bobby Locke Played Sam Snead 23 times in South Africa for a 15 3 5 record It was Snead who said he should go to the US So he went 9 wins out of 11 tournaments and started late. He was so good US pros connived to have him banned because of a non appearance at some pissant place. And those pros included Hogan, Nelson Demeret
