Slash is my favorite rock guitarist. He's a fan of all music. Even the guitar director of the jazz program at UNF is a fan of Slash. That says a lot! 😎

It makes perfect sense to me that Slash would get into Wes Montgomery as he's that type of musician. I started playing guitar at the age of 13 back in '87 so of course my first band was going to play some Guns N' Roses songs. I was mainly into older rock and blues, like Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Pink Floyd, the Beatles, etc., as well as listening to some jazz even at that early age, but I noticed there was a depth to Slash's musicianship and musicality. These days I play mostly jazz, but I'm originally a blues-rock player so I can see exactly where Slash is coming from.

Sounds like you are very similar to me except I was born in 1981’ I became a session drummer when I was 24 but I have always had a hand playing guitar’ Peter Green and Rory Gallagherm Clapton amd Jeff beck have always been a big influence on me’ but probably like u most of us take reference from all styles of music’ which is the best way to be ✌️

I play jazz too and yes of course, Slash has a lot of depth. I’ve always noticed that. He solos with a lot melodic flair and catchy phrases.

Surprisingly, crystal clear analysis by Slash - not bad! Great video series.

I love these stories. Keep going guys, it is awesome! Please pan the interviewers up the middle. It is a little weird hearing one voice on the left and one on the right.

I wonder if any members of the Wes Montgomery family heard about
an old friend of his: Mr. Bill Bryant
who was a barber in Roxbury. I met
him in '77 and we played old time
Blues at his home. His customers
    included Irving Ashby, Kenny Burrel
and others but Wes was a close
friend. Bill also told me he gave a
Guild Guitar to a teenage George
Benson. He was born in 1915 and
I lost touch with him in 2002 so I
    Imagine they are together now...

I bought Tony’s cassette tape around 1989. He had long dredlocks! Anyway, after shredding on guitar, then shredded on classical piano. I still have the tape.

I’m sure Wes considered Robert the baby boy and apple of his eye. Wes wasn’t ready to transition but got assurances his family would be ok and clearly they were. One of his grandchildren, Anthony, is an actor who appeared with Scott Bakula on a series of Star Trek.

Really? No influence heard in his playing! He is simply a pentatonic player who is overrated big time!

Overrated how? not technical enough songs not hard enough? Is that what you think music is? Not my favorite player by any means but wrote some pretty great tunes.
