Like the Helion it's got props in view for O3-only flights so it limits options for some pilots who might not want to carry a GoPro. What camera angle was on the GoPro to get props out of view? Center mounted theres no way its not at insane angle. Frankly unusable for cinema purposes for that reason. There are other lighter options that can go faster while still allowing full camera rotation without props.
Bullshit. The angle is what’s you see on the bracket when I show it with the action 2 fitted. The GoPro is high enough it does not need an insane angle.

Iflight electronics and o3 on a race frame makes the best cine quad? 😅 All the madkwads race frames looked like this, been around for like 5 years. O3 out of view, please, and for those who say it dont natter cuz u use gopro anyway, no. I use o3 both as backup and for slowmo when i use lower frame rate on gopro. Its enough for many customers.

@@Kingsleyfpv And i think iflight electronic is shit overall. Stayed away for a few years now though after i had so many fc's fail, maybe qc is better now. This frame is nothing new either though, there are many race frames doing the same thing at a lighter weight. CNC camera mount might be the new thing, but just sounds heavy. I don't see how this is for anyone
Sir, this is jose manuel from the Canary Islands, I have a question for you: you praised this drone quite a bit more than usual for cinematic usage, IMHO it has a quite unusual design being a true X frame and having the props right in front the DJI camera as yo certainly stated, you praised its good behaviour and tune, and I wonder what the heck you found so good in this drone for cinematic use as oposed to for example a dead cat framed Nazgul 5 form the same brand, why would someone interested in cinematic use prefer this one instead of a dead cat design Nazgul 5 ??? regards from the Canary islands the Hawaii of the Atlantic, I certainly can not understand what you loved so much in this drone, considering it renders the dji 03 pictures unusable, on the other hands IMHO all it has that could be an advantage is a low center of gravity due to having the battery on the lower part of it, I also find very difficult to believe that the tune is so different from what the engineers of Iflight have implemented in their other very well behaved machines, could you please explain me the reasons behind you so highly regarding this drone for cinematic use as compared to for example a Nazgul Evoque F6 with a deadcat design ?
I'd really love to see some crash testing of that frame, while i believe carbon fiber is ment to flex a little, i thought we got away from that many cut outs... I definitely may be wrong, but Looks like the arm assembly would crumble on a impact??? Definitely like how well the electronics are protected but do they get proper cooling? and i bet it fly's amazing, although i feel iflight electronics and motors are total garbage and have the worst quality of any other brand, and would never buy it as a bnf, but the frame looks interesting
Myself I picked up a DJI FPV drone only on eBay for £179 and rebuilt the thing onto a strong crash resistant frame of my own, works nicely so much so that I bought another DJI FPV for similar price, can’t go wrong really, at least the gimble tilts the camera up and down and you get all the nice flight/safety features. What gets me is why more people don’t do the same, lazy I guess, it’s cheaper than buying DJI 03 camera just by itself and you get all them drone electronics too, bit like whole used cars and individual parts really. And also, if one wants you can mod the battery to fly longer and further. Any case don’t know what price they will want for that thing you have, looks nice, but would need waterproofing a bit for rainy weather, frankly though I prefer just cutting my own frames from aluminium sheets makes bashes cheaper to fix. Oh, do you have source code for the DJI products old chap, would be handy together with schematics, or does one need to grab one of them DJI product designers and extract a confession from them by way of a good old dungeon and standard garage tools.
Maybe make and share a vid of how you did it. Could be something people are interested in. Also, would the gimbal work with head tracking in dji goggles?
Don’t want to get into making mod videos myself no time for it, but if you type: MoppelMat DJI FPV (they censor full links here nasty types that they are) into utube search you can see basically what this guy did using carbon fibre instead of aluminium although he changed the motor/props too. So, some people are modding them, just up to your own imagination and effort put in as to how good the end job will look like. If you're handy with tools then easy. Layout of electronics you can alter too all depends how much time you want to spend on it. Any case that link should give you a few ideas. Any old scrap even like old steel coat hanger bent to springy roll bars for easy fit add on even. @@dwalosie
The O3 is always one antenna? Look at the Cinelog20 for example, all small o3 quads have one antenna. The O3 is also delivered with one anteanna in the box? I'm confused what you are saying. Edit: I get it i think, its not the original antenna, and the DJI antenna has two antennas inside it i guess
Interesting quad with some unique design choices. My main complaint is the bottom slung battery, landing on any rocks is going to put a lot of abuse on lipos. Its not a basher but damn that does not look crashable at all. Maybe Im dumb but isnt one positive of having two antennas is so you could orient them to cover nulls? I try to mount my air unit antennas either at 45 or 90 degrees for better directional coverage. For a cinematic drone I think vtx signal coverage would be important.
I’m considering my first 5inch. I’m undecided between the Afterburner or the Mark 5 DC03 What is your opinions on pros and cons between these 2. I currently own the Bob57 as my first ‘proper’ quad, and flew the Avata for about a year before that. Not a self plug, but you can see footage of mine on TH-cam under ‘Harold of Kernow’ if you want to get a judge of the level I’m at. I’d deffo say I’m still a newb, so dunno if the Afterburner is too Professional for me. I really like the whole vibe of it, and the wind resistance is a massive bonus for these Cornish coasts, but is the sensible choice of Mark 5 the better choice? I’m not sure if I like the bottom mounted battery due to my poor landing skills ;) Can u (or anyone who has hands on experience with these 2) let me know what you think about either. Cheers
@MadRC really ?? Most my quads don't have any jello in 03 I rarely run nd . Tbh this drone looks over complicated for little to no benefits. Looks terrible to work on. And still have chance of seeing props in view of action cam if it's on superview or low camera angle for slower flying .
I do like the looks, and as a tool it does have a market, if anything the silly pricing will make it appeal to cinematographer's more but for us mere mortals I would suggest buying a race drone and giving it a cinematic tune, maybe even a throttle cut (mines at 80%), drop the "R" and call it a chase drone...
Thanks for the review! Like yourself..I don't care about props in view. I would be using with a GoPro mounted anyway. This looks like a very interesting FPV.
same shit different year with faulty parts and apparently its still the best quad lol. this is why fpv has not been having any achievements lately. cool review but seems like every drone that comes out is the best thing which has no major improvements, more $$ for less quality.
hi mad, could you share with my how much you feel the arms flex bend them? for all of these extravagant arms and snug shell attached. does this quad really innervate enough to ignore the 115£ price tag they asking for it. designed to be smaller but no prop guards, confuses me that they are aiming to achieve. any maintenance seems vastly more inconvenient. in bnf terms i sounds from the review to be one of the best in terms of flight performance, but for those professionals capable of self building, im sure they can easily build an out performing model for cheaper. im sceptical this frame is worth the cost compared to diy self builds as a side note tho. you would think the company sending out review models would test the drones before sending them. loose motor wire and etc just seems careless.
Ok iFlight, you are making great drones and you are catching up with DJI (design-wise). Now, please please please, make a RTF drone which is compliant with new EU regulation and get the C1-C2 certification for urban scenarios 👌
I bought this drone and the tune on it is very loose and it has a lot of propwash compared to all BNF drones I flew. I regret getting it honestly and BlHeli is not accessible since I guess it has a beta BF4.5 firmware or something.
This is a fragile, cinematic frame, not a freestyle basher. The Master 5 is also a cinematic frame. If you want a frame that will hit the concrete and keep flying, I'd get an ImpulseRC Apex or Armattan Marmotte, or Demibot/Grinderino
can someone tell me what range you have with afterburner with03 air unit, mine in open space at 250-300m drops to 10-15Mbps very poor range. With my 2raw Helion I can fly a few kilometres and I have no problem
It should not be that poor. I tested mine and it was very comparable to normal O3. You may want to check the antenna connectors are ok and you have the right antenna.
looks nice bit like my potatoe, M10 gps on speedybee 5 master connector got knocked off in a crash so need another one, could be better, nothing like DJI's GPS. I record with the O3 unit in 4k, less to loose!
I asked them this question since I was curious as well and this was their response..."Initially we will only be selling BnF, But after a while we will then release frame kits, similar to what we did with the bob57"
I don't think we got to see what it looks like with a battery strapped on, how the bottom mounted battery affects the feel, what size batteries are recommended, or estimated flight times
What i want to see from all manufacturers, is more weather resilient drones. Not saying water proof, but something that can fly in moderate rain. This quad is somewhat there.... give us stuff we can fly comfortably all year round. Dont tell me its not possible... anythings possible in 2024 😆 I know we can conformal coat etc.... but i mean more quads with physical protection of the internals
- O3 in that frame is useless - Battery on the bottom - will damage the battery during landing and fails - weight, that drone is not light, the same as others - only gopro/osmo action could be installed, bigger cameras are not suits Can perfect flight out of the box is good but what the point?🤷♂️ Thanks iflight for the experiments and collaboration.❤
People have run bottom slung lipos for the better part of a decade. Learn to land, put a carbon plate on the strap and damage outside of a crash is minimal. And if you crash a top mounted frame, they generally hit battery first and eject it. Frankly I’d rather a bottom slung, they eject batteries far less, and crashing ruins lipos regardless of where it’s mounted
Good review but sorry that is the most pointless quad who wants props in view nowadays just buy a normal nazgul deadcat slap an gopro on and you can use for freestyle or cinematic and there bombproof companys just makin crap for extra money nowadays !! Quality review as always i just dnt see the point ❤
If you don't record with the O3, which is what would actually be pointless with a 5", then it doesn't really matter. The flight performance is better, it's actually a very nice quad, not perfect of course
Why pointless with a 5”? That’s the whole purpose of the O3/4K. Can’t be $450 better. I am all for innovation and creativity, but how’s an X frame with props in view innovative or cinematic? Compact for sure, but also hard to work on.
@@MindRiderFPV because you're not using this for filming with the O3, you'd want something else for that. It's not the compact size that makes it better, although that's kinda nice. It's the better flight performance from having a lower moment on inertia than basically any other 5". I've been flying it for about 6 months and it's really good. The convenience of bottomless mounted battery, and having the GoPro rear screen free to use without a battery in the way are both way better for filming work. Taking off from random places is also better with the bottom mounted battery. Top speed is higher because of the aerodynamics, but yeah the flight performance is really great
@milfordkd bottomless mounted battery?!😂 no that is terrible when you land..... ALLWAYS put you at a 45⁰ sbecause of the bottom mounted battery😢 that was my LEAST fav part of having a bottom mounted bat.... ALWAYS had to prop it up just right so it dint fall over before arming!
So you do a review, make a video... you are a beta tester... you report back to them with improvements or to correct flaws. They should let you keep the Quad. 😋
This will always happen on a bright day on the O3 - it’s due to the auto shutter on the O3 setting itself to like 1/2000 so the image doesn’t over expose. If you put an ND filter on so the shutter doesn’t have to go so high this would go. It’s a camera issue not a drone issue.
That beach is one of the best test locations. It's got everything, highlights, shadows, tons of details in the rocks and sand and waves. A great test for any camera

Beautiful landscape...
Props in veiw..motors too😄
Sir, this is jose manuel from the Canary Islands, I have a question for you: you praised this drone quite a bit more than usual for cinematic usage, IMHO it has a quite unusual design being a true X frame and having the props right in front the DJI camera as yo certainly stated, you praised its good behaviour and tune, and I wonder what the heck you found so good in this drone for cinematic use as oposed to for example a dead cat framed Nazgul 5 form the same brand, why would someone interested in cinematic use prefer this one instead of a dead cat design Nazgul 5 ??? regards from the Canary islands the Hawaii of the Atlantic, I certainly can not understand what you loved so much in this drone, considering it renders the dji 03 pictures unusable, on the other hands IMHO all it has that could be an advantage is a low center of gravity due to having the battery on the lower part of it, I also find very difficult to believe that the tune is so different from what the engineers of Iflight have implemented in their other very well behaved machines, could you please explain me the reasons behind you so highly regarding this drone for cinematic use as compared to for example a Nazgul Evoque F6 with a deadcat design ?
What a review! Super interesting build - I'd love to get my hands on a review copy!
Love it! I really want the Helion 10! Cheers!
Thats a very innovative and interesting quad
HOW DO YOU POWER THE EXTERNAL HD CAMERA....GOPRO ECT.?.....BUT IN MY OPINION ITS A WINNER , LOOKS STRONG, IFLIGHT QUALITY, 6S , YES SIR , THANKS MATE.
A quad this size will easily carry a full size GoPro which has its own battery.
@@dwalosie
It's cute like a tiny. Nice review Ian.
Really interesting looking layout. I would love to see a 3.5 inch and 7 inch version
Hi, what about speed max, for example i need to do movies with racing car ? Is it to go with 160kmh ?
if the motors were flipped would it take the props out of view?
I’m considering my first 5inch.
I’m undecided between the Afterburner or the Mark 5 DC03
What is your opinions on pros and cons between these 2.
I’m not sure if I like the bottom mounted battery due to my poor landing skills ;)
Can u (or anyone who has hands on experience with these 2) let me know what you think about either.
Cheers
Hi, thanks for the great review. Looks like there is some "jello"/vibration in the O3 footage. Does it come from the tune ?
No it was a very bright afternoon and I was not using ND. You still need ND to balance off jellos regardless of how well it’s tuned.
@MadRC really ?? Most my quads don't have any jello in 03 I rarely run nd . Tbh this drone looks over complicated for little to no benefits. Looks terrible to work on. And still have chance of seeing props in view of action cam if it's on superview or low camera angle for slower flying .
Surely you cant send and receive at the same time on the same antenna?
DJI have done this already. Remember there is complex switching going on
@@MadRC But switching means it's choosing to send or receive. Would this theoretically not impact performance?
I do like the looks, and as a tool it does have a market, if anything the silly pricing will make it appeal to cinematographer's more but for us mere mortals I would suggest buying a race drone and giving it a cinematic tune, maybe even a throttle cut (mines at 80%), drop the "R" and call it a chase drone...
I bought the frame kit when it was available, but still not built it yet. I'm a bit disappointed that the kit only is no longer available
It’s coming back
Thanks for the review! Like yourself..I don't care about props in view. I would be using with a GoPro mounted anyway. This looks like a very interesting FPV.
same shit different year with faulty parts and apparently its still the best quad lol. this is why fpv has not been having any achievements lately. cool review but seems like every drone that comes out is the best thing which has no major improvements, more $$ for less quality.
hi mad, could you share with my how much you feel the arms flex bend them?
for all of these extravagant arms and snug shell attached. does this quad really innervate enough to ignore the 115£ price tag they asking for it.
designed to be smaller but no prop guards, confuses me that they are aiming to achieve.
any maintenance seems vastly more inconvenient.
in bnf terms i sounds from the review to be one of the best in terms of flight performance, but for those professionals capable of self building, im sure they can easily build an out performing model for cheaper. im sceptical this frame is worth the cost compared to diy self builds
as a side note tho. you would think the company sending out review models would test the drones before sending them. loose motor wire and etc just seems careless.
How much camera up-tilt on the O3 to get the props out of view? Hmmm.
Ok iFlight, you are making great drones and you are catching up with DJI (design-wise). Now, please please please, make a RTF drone which is compliant with new EU regulation and get the C1-C2 certification for urban scenarios 👌
were working on it atm, its crazy expensive though.
Good first look video Ian
Hi what action cam did you film with ?
DJI Action 2
I bought this drone and the tune on it is very loose and it has a lot of propwash compared to all BNF drones I flew. I regret getting it honestly and BlHeli is not accessible since I guess it has a beta BF4.5 firmware or something.
Reminds me of the Aerodyne RC Nimbus but without the overheating problem.
If it is a cinematic rig and not for bandos, why all the protection/weight?
Protection always helps.
For freestyle would you recommend this over the Speedybee Master 5 v2?
This is a fragile, cinematic frame, not a freestyle basher. The Master 5 is also a cinematic frame. If you want a frame that will hit the concrete and keep flying, I'd get an ImpulseRC Apex or Armattan Marmotte, or Demibot/Grinderino
Nice review. What’s the canopy weight?
Not sure can check the weekend.
@@MadRC ok! Let us know :)
can someone tell me what range you have with afterburner with03 air unit, mine in open space at 250-300m drops to 10-15Mbps very poor range. With my 2raw Helion I can fly a few kilometres and I have no problem
It should not be that poor. I tested mine and it was very comparable to normal O3. You may want to check the antenna connectors are ok and you have the right antenna.
Can you bind it with DJI goggles and remote control?
Ofcourse. It's got O3
looks nice bit like my potatoe, M10 gps on speedybee 5 master connector got knocked off in a crash so need another one, could be better, nothing like DJI's GPS. I record with the O3 unit in 4k, less to loose!
Just rock a racing frame with GPS. Way lighter.
This pigtail is not a RF combiner, it's just a parallel connection.
Will the frame be available as an item for self build ?
You can get the frame from 2Raw.
Battery sizes are pretty standard for a 5” drone. 1100-1500mah 6s probably 2-8mins depending how hard you are on the throttle.
What i want to see from all manufacturers, is more weather resilient drones. Not saying water proof, but something that can fly in moderate rain. This quad is somewhat there.... give us stuff we can fly comfortably all year round. Dont tell me its not possible... anythings possible in 2024 😆
I know we can conformal coat etc.... but i mean more quads with physical protection of the internals
You could trim a lot of carbon off the top and bottom plate
So this is what you were doing a “great” job of hiding during the livestream lol
Knoxville , TN. USA got hit pretty hard .....where you at JOSH B.!!?????
Is there a way to get free the drone?
Get ur knees dirty.
- O3 in that frame is useless
- Battery on the bottom - will damage the battery during landing and fails
- weight, that drone is not light, the same as others
- only gopro/osmo action could be installed, bigger cameras are not suits
Can perfect flight out of the box is good but what the point?🤷♂️
Thanks iflight for the experiments and collaboration.❤
I came to the comments to talk about that antenna. But nothing lol.
03 with props in view….pointless. Design clues taken from DJI potato. Sorry but I just don’t see the point.
Same. Looks more like a racer or FS than cinematic. I detest props taking the shot. And I see jello in the camera shot (zoom in).
Someone needs to build a carbon frame for the DJI potato
Prop in view... Don't like it. Want to record using O3.
Still rather a 7” cruiser than this. I get it but it’s not for me.
Looks a lot like a Chris Rosser design...
Is anyone else seeing some constant small vibrations coming from the o3 flight video?
This will always happen on a bright day on the O3 - it’s due to the auto shutter on the O3 setting itself to like 1/2000 so the image doesn’t over expose. If you put an ND filter on so the shutter doesn’t have to go so high this would go. It’s a camera issue not a drone issue.
@@JoshHenriques I see, that makes sense. I guess I have never seen it before because I have always used an nd with my o3. Thank you
Yea was no ND that day. It was not planned to be final footage however weather was against me and I did not have many choices.
Several frame use this arm design, it's not uniq at all.
Several out of hundreds of others is definitely not the norm. If you’re being picky not “unique” but definitely not the norm.
No, it's too expensive for me. I'm still waiting for a 10 dollar coupon 🤣
Not my cup of tea, But very cool none the less.
Over priced!
Try against an openracer 🤷🏼♂️
Looks too bulky and heavy😂 cinematic sure in '86
