  • For the second year in a row our annual small SUV comparison test took us from Southern California to the greater Phoenix area for some Cactus League baseball. Six editors logged more than 100 miles in each of the six test vehicles, and our collective findings and insights are captured in this video.

    *Our comparison tests are different from most in that we keep the focus on comparison, not competition. We don't pick winners and losers because the right choice for one buyer is the wrong choice for another. Our goal here is not to tell you which car to buy, but to make it easier for you to decide which is best for you.

    Outlander Sport but no Forester or Rogue. That makes perfect sense...

    • @FanaticGuide

      Why no Forester or Rogue, just because they have CVTs? Foresters are good cars you shithead!

      Why would you say yes to the Outlander Sport when it has a CVT but decline two other vehicles with CVTs as well? That makes no dag sense to me.

    I love our base model Mistu 4wd drive automatic, for the price point (18K) can't see how it can be beat. It's a winter beast and way sexier than the rest of the field.

      +USFanLovesMinHo Yeah, it is now. We just sold our 04 5 speed for a new CVT Forester Premium. I liked the size of our past Forester, to be honest. But it has a much nicer rear seat, and a rear facing car seat fits was better. I had my legs in the dash in our older one. They are considered mid size now, btw

  • @jeepthing98
    @jeepthing98 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Some errors in this test. First is the already mentioned missing Forester, showing the blind spot monitoring on the CX-5 and calling it "lane departure warning" and the As tested price on the Cherokee was a whopping $36,400 and that wasn't considered a negative.

    • @DevPack

    • @KevinAlej21
      @KevinAlej21 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      you get so much more with a base Rogue than a base CR-V, the base CR-V gives you ugly rims, plastic handles and a boring interior! Nissan is much better priced then both Honda and Ford and you get a lot more for less money!

    • @dakingofgeese
      @dakingofgeese 9 ปีที่แล้ว

  • @dakingofgeese
    @dakingofgeese 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    There's a reason for limited luxury features on the Mazda CX-5 such as power lift-gates and rear vents. They all add weight and therefore sacrifice fuel economy. Plus, unless you're disabled, the power lift gate isn't needed. Same goes for rear vents. The front vents monitor the temperature of the car just fine. Only thing I'm pissed off about is the location of the second auxiliary outlet. Why did they put it behind the rear seats and not the center console?

      mark williams I've always thought they had interesting and innovative cars. The Outlander was a cross-over long before cross-overs became popular. The Lancer was a sporty, affordable sedan long before the segment re-emerged in the 2010s. Yet still, they always seemed decades behind when it came to the little details, like interiors, safety and performance. I'd probably never buy one, but I really hope they stay in business.

    It seems no matter which one you pick, they are all competent and capable. But for those who think that one is better then the other because of sales number, you're either a fool, ignorant or both. Everybody doesn't want to drive a me to vehicle. I could purchase either one of these, but because of my personal taste, it would never be a CR-V. Its slow, personally hideous to look at and the noise that the CVT makes while excellerating is unacceptable.

    As a rental car agent, I've driven ALL these vehicles a ton of miles. My honest opinion: buy a Ford Escape. Hands down this vehicle has it ALL. Styling. Acceleration. Fit and Finish. Mileage. Handling. Durability - believe me, rental cars take a BEATING, and the Escape comes back for more. Seats are comfy and with power can adjust to fit even my 5'11" frame. Controls are well laid out, easy to reach, with steering wheel controls for many functions. Get the touch screen upgrade for NAV, Climate, Audio/Entertainment, and Phone functions. Visibility is an A+. I cannot say anything bad about this vehicle, and we have customers REQUEST the Escape specifically. Subaru, Nissan, and Mazda - flimsy, lots of parts break easily, look and feel cheaply made. Take all these vehicles for a test drive, and stomp on the accelerator... see which one puts a smile on your face. And listen for road and wind noise...

      ARCH. M I'm assuming the Dodge Journey is a "Compact" same size as the Jeep Cherokee. I don't consider them "Compact" they're closer to "Mid-Size".

    It's funny how in the USA these are called "Compact". Actually these are "Medium" SUVs because there are more compact SUVs. The Suzuki SX4, for example. The USA still has a legacy hankering for BIG and anything else is relegated "Compact". When is the USA going to use appropriate definitions like the rest of the world? When is the USA going to accept Turbodiesel which is by far the most suitable fuel for SUVs and for long drives in every car?

    whatever you choose, don't buy the Ford Escape. I regretted so much. The window is not insulate well, I can hear the wind noise after 2 months at around 60mph or if there is a strong wind. Their service is horrible. Especially the bluetooth disconnect to my phone very often when driving or on start up, it also decline to connect to my phone for couple days :|

    I like, manly looking, exciting, go anywhere and do-anything cars-- and the Renegade fits my needs fine. I don't like finely tailored, sissy looking cars like HRV, CX-5, etc. I know Japanese cars are reliable, but so is my grandfather's bullock cart. Most crossovers are like German hospitals- clean looking, tidy, efficient but not a you want to go on a holiday.

    Does anyone else think it's weird that America is so obsessed with compact SUVs? A sport wagon is much easier to handle, more responsive, and has good cargo room.. A lot of American cities have bad traffic and it's probably easier to zip through traffic in a wagon vs. a heavier compact SUV with a little 4 cylinder engine
    I wish we could follow the Europeans and get more sport wagons back into our market! I'd take a Jetta wagon over a crossover any day!

    Jeep quality is not there, attention to detail is poor. Honda is a shadow of its former self, do they even know what direct injection is yet? Toyota...yawn, you want more if the same? Kia, not a bad effort but why settle for second best? Mazda by far, new modern engine and transmission, great to drive, classy interior materials and regularly praised entertainment system.
