- While trying save Aerith from Hojo in the lab, Hojo remember who is really cloud is and reveals to him that he never been a SOLDIER before. I have edited the scene from FF7 remake and included a flashback from FFCC when Hojo Meets Cloud for the First time and make his experiment on him. I also included the vision of CLOUD of Jenova. Enjoy!

@@EianDeVera In the original,he raped her(Though they never explicitly said that due to `90s censorship). In the flashback scenes in "Dirge of Cerberus" , she married him out of guilt because she felt unworthy of being with Vincent due to blaming herself for his father Grimoire`s death.
Sephiroth and Jenova may be the ones you have to stop, however, Hojo is the cause of most of the damage that happened to the Planet and everyone else
It seemed to me during Vincent flashback that Lucrecia was actually in love with Hojo and that he took advantage from being the father to inject Jenova cells into her being pregnant, not sure this was about rape here that would make less sense

It’s the whispers and zacks fault. His mind was already messed up do to the hole Zack sephrath and Hojo thing. Add in the whispers who literally try to force destiny and mess with you based off your importers to history, it’s not surprising that a main protagonist with amnesia would be getting all flashe do to that

Consider remake as parallel Timeline to original FF7, Aerith and sephiroth are the only one that know whats going to happen, unfortunatly shit hits the fan when cloud touches Aerith and begins to see whispers of destiny and add sephiroth who is trying to change destiny to save himself.

Hojo basically started this all with his experimentations, if he had just told Sepiroth that he was genetically enhanced and that his real mother wasn’t some alien none of this would’ve happened

In case someone is wondering, the whispers take Hojo out because he is about to reveal to Cloud important things about his past that he doesn't remember, and he can't remember them right now otherwise future events will not happen as they should in the OG
I can't stand this plot contrivance. To me it just looks like the writers flexing needlessly -- deus ex machina. The whole point of writing is to smudge these things into the plot so it doesn't look like there's a conspicuous hand keeping people chained to the plot. Might as well have Tetsuya Nomura sitting in a director's chair in the same room as all of them yelling 'Ok now remove Hojo!'

@@alejandromomota6934 I don't really care if they change plot points throughout the story just to spice things up a bit, but the whole "defy destiny" and "fate" narrative on top of the grounded story makes everything fall over. And it's not just contradicting the original story, it also contradicts 95% of the story they told in this game alone. I loved the added moral dilemma of several Avalanche members, Barret's scene with the President, it felt like they added more to a already great story, and then this whole fate thing comes around that feels way too much like Nomura writing and ruins the consistency of the game.
@@hansyolo9649 Not to mention, technically speaking, theres no reason for Hojo to suddenly remember this about Cloud, in the original game he meets Cloud twice and not once does he remember this information, it makes no sense why he remembered in the remake, other than to put this completely pointless cutscene into the game.

Nomura was the *one* higher up dev that worked on both the original and remake that wanted to keep the story the exact same. Everyone else wanted to do a new story. Cloud never made it into soldier, but Zack made him a soldier. He believe that Cloud was worthy enough to carry his Legacy. That’s why he thinks that way. But also somewhat his memories are fused with the ones of zacks. He may not remember Zack either. Lol

This is not the story of FF VII 1997. Only the story Square invent for Crisis Core, a commercial use of the brand FF VII. For the remake, it's the same. The relationship between Cloud and Zack in FF VII 1997 was not something deep because in this time, it was enough for the story, Zack devlopment was not needed. Crisis Core like Before Crisis, Dirge of Cerberus or Advent Children has a bad compatibility with the story of FF VII 1997. Many things doesn't go well with the original story of FF VII 1997. The exploitation of FF VII 1997 story after his release is pretty bad even if Zack was great in Crisis Core. The universe was not respected, Angeal and the monsters with his face, Genesis and his clones, the new searcher, etc... to many things which stain with FF VII 1997. Crisis Core have a good story but if you have played FF VII 1997, it's more or less a shamefull use of his story.
Cloud's PTSD in this game is amazing..

Also a reason why when he went back to nibelheim with sephy and Zack but he kept his helmet on because he was too embarrassed to be seen as anything but a soldier. Cloud even admits it later on in the story when his memory shattered and Tifa had to help him piece it together. But you are right, he does have the ability to be one. Even Zack says it in crisis core I believe. He said he would have made it if he wasn't so timid

Well... Hojo sees his subjects as basically meat toys.
I mean, he gave Zack a second SOLDIER treatment without even noticing that he was already a SOLDIER (which kinda defeated the purpose of experimenting with the treatment on people without the mental requirements to receive it), that tells you how much he gives a shit about people.
For everyone else... He was a random Shinra trooper, I doubt anyone who didn't work close to him (like the infantry who recognized him from military training, which tends to be a bonding experience hardly forgettable) would remember him, considering the amount of people that work for the company at the lowest levels (also the fact that he pretty much vanished for years)
Cloud *was* a legitimate failure to Hojo.
Hell, he was a failure of a soldier in general. He was only kept as a grunt due to surviving the Mako treatment the first time (hence his eyes as a grunt), but the second Mako wash poisoning him.
However, it's a miracle he can even function at all to be honest. That's why Hojo begins to take more curious interest in him as the game progressed.
Cloud was a failure in pretty much everything. He was the equivalent of a stormtrooper
1- Zack and Cloud were recovered in the incident with Sephiroth.
2- Despite Cloud being an infantry nobody, Zack and Cloud were part of the SAME EXPERIMENT. Zack being a public known true rank 1 SOLDIER who rose in ranks successfully defeating Genesis and Angeal, two POPULAR and beloved SOLDIER rank 1, and working with Sephiroth.
3- BOTH SUBJECTS ran away from lab and Shinra was so desperate to they sent a huge army after Zack.
*So even if Cloud was a nobody, all those HUGE EVENTS are big enough to make Cloud unforgettable, somehow.*

Give Cloud some credit, he survives to Hojo's experiments.
The issue was that, really, the experiments at first seemed to do nothing to either Zack or Cloud except give Cloud severe mako poisoning. It was so bad that Hojo deemed him a failure compared to the other clones, which as we know are barely able to function as it is.

@@myoldchannel0 If you read the notes scattered around the lab in Crisis Core or the OG game, it says that the injection of Jenovah cells doesn't initially do anything for Cloud and the mako injections just make him catatonic.
And while we have very little idea of what the experiments were really like, the look of the labs and Hojo's general disregard for human life don't pick a pretty picture.

“Cloud realizes he was a nerd all along”
The fact that Cloud and not Zack killed Sephiroth pre being exposed to Jenova's cells and overly exposed to Mako (He was exposed a bit during his first skirmish with Sephiroth) but also before killing him out strengthen Sephiroth WITH the latter's Masamune straight through his gut. This GIVES an HONORARY and over rank of SOLDIER 1st Class to Cloud. He may had not been in SOLDIER officially, and obviously not 1st class, but he definitely earned it, and also the fact he once again Killed Sephiroth at the End of FFVII also solidifies his status, and even in ADVENT CHILDREN lol. Cloud IS and WAS Soldier 1st class :)
It is implied he has passed physical examination to become a SOLDIER but failed some mental and psychological tests. Before Cloud had his more severe mental problems, he was plagued by inferiority and guilt-ridden complex that I think hindered his performance hence why SOLDIER refused to allow him to join.
Thats not how it works man.
You can give a child a knife and let him stab sephiroth, but in the end he is still a child not a soldier.

Cloud was bullied as a kid for being weak. He left his village to become a SOLDIER to prove himself, but ended up a nobody foot soldier. He was ashamed and never returned (until the Nibelheim incident in which he hid his identity from everyone). He never told anyone in the village about his actual job including his mother and Tifa. I suspect he even lied to his mother that he's actually a SOLDIER. He fantasized a lot about being SOLDIER... more specifically, about being Zack; his close friend who is an actual SOLDIER. Zack talk to Cloud a lot about his experience as a SOLDIER (i guess because Cloud was very into it), feeding Cloud's fantasy to the point of obsession. The Hojo's experiment screw up Cloud's mind pushing him over the cliff and completely adopted his fantasies as reality. That's how Cloud's memory some times replaced with Zack's. He remember his childhood fine, but everything after he left the village and SOLDIER related, he took Zack's place.
Kinda right, but slightly off. Cloud didn't have a fantasy obsession, he was rather depressed about not being SOLDIER but was trying to accept it. When Zack and Sephiroth arrived at Nibelheim, Cloud had actually decided to come clean about it, even invited Zack to come meet his mother with him so he'd have some support for it. However he got badly injured trying to protect Tifa from a mako corrupted monster ambush and was unconscious up until the night of the Incident.
After the experiment, Cloud's mental barriers were messed up, especially with him in a barely there coma. JENOVA has a trait that allowed it to invade the minds of people who saw it, read their memories and appear in the form of something that would be the same species, friendly and relatable to the target as a self defence mechanism. This property was messing with Cloud's psyche as he was fused with the cells.
During their attempt to reach Midgard, Zack made the mistake of telling the barely aware Cloud all of the stories of his past to pass the time on the long hitchhiking rides. Zack was then fatally injured and left for dead outside Midgard (the soldiers left Cloud since he was still in a coma and would die from starvation if left alone). He luckily managed to wake up, only to find Zack's dying body. Zack made another mistake, telling Cloud to take up his sword and calling him "My Living Legacy". Cloud then saw his best friend die in front of him. In his barely still aware state, Cloud's JENOVA muddled subconscious took the concept and rewrote his memories, so that he would become the legacy that he was left. As long as Cloud lived, the memories of Zack would live on as he would effectively become Zack.
Seyha Leonhartz no he didnt lie he just choose not to contact them,rather than to lie let then assume he is still in training to be a soldier despite didnt make the cut. He is not the type of telling lies as he suffered memory loss as we all knew and reliving as the memory of zack thats why aerith said i know u love me but it isnt real, what she meant the feeling isnt his but from zack’s memories

Not just the root cause of everything that happens in Final Fantasy 7 and a most despicable man, but also a very incompetent scientist with a very inflated sense of his abilities...ever since he murdered Gast (who was the real "brain" of this operation) all he does is screw his employer over and over with repetitive failed experiments, until they got the president killed and the company ruined!
Jenova probably gets so many Mother's day cards, considering how children she has, but we all know Sephiroth is her favorite.

He's legitimately charismatic when he needs to be. The babes at Costa del Sol, Lucrecia and concepting Sephiroth, even how he discusses his methods at the meeting.
The truly horrifying thing about Hojo is how manipulative he really is, and not even the players catch that off the bat.
I mean, even at the meeting, after the others talk about torturing Aerith to get her to do what they want, everyone shuts up and looks really uncomfortable when they hear just what Hojo has planned for her.
I figured it out in that first shinra meeting when playing the orignal ff7 the others all just pawns so he can do his experiments and as soon as he doesnt need them things are goingnto get ugly and boy did the end of disk 2 prove me right!

Jenova manipulated his memory
The experiment and traumatic events gave him selective amnesia. He forgot about zack, and him being grunt soldier, yet he remembers the soldier stories zack told him plus he was there during the nibelheim incident, and when he came to his senses he has the soldier first class uniform, the buster sword, mako eyes and some soldier experience stories. His brain assumed he was that soldier with a buster sword.
That explains why in the original ff7, Tifa pretended to not know Zack. In Crisis Core she was also wondering why Zack and Sephiroth were the only ones that made it to first class. She was trying to stop Cloud from knowing the truth in the original about this, so she wouldn't crush his dreams.

Not sure how I feel about the Jenova redesign. Felt that the pale decomposed corpse looked creepier than the old molded and decomposed design in this remake. Everything else looks good though.

Neither Tifa not Aerith knew, they only had a suspicion that he was putting on some sort of facade and wasn't being true to himself. Tifa didn't find out til her and Cloud were in the lifestream together
Tifa did know something was wrong though. Since Cloud appeared at Midgar, disheveled, with a new demeanor and personality, later telling her about about a memory about Nibelheim being destroyed in great detail. Which confused Tifa, because she was there when that happened and she didn't see him at all. She thought he had some type of mental trauma or PTSD, probably from, what she imagined was the Mako treatments SOLDIERS receive, and she was afraid to ask him about it out of fear of causing him a mental breakdown.

Some people believe that he has zacks memory or he only remembers one side of the story. It isn’t as simple as that. Cloud had jenova cells in him and according to the ultimania translation clouds jenova cells copied all of zacks traits and memories near perfectly. Basically cloud became a mental doppleganger of zack with his skills with the buster sword.

The throwbacks in this game is incredible. Not only does it appeal a lot to die hard fans but it filled me in on some of the story just in a couple of shots.

Cloud clearly didn't heard what Hojo said about him not being a SOLDIER because his mind denied it like we can see. Also Tifa and Barett who heard it probably think that Hojo only lied and said bulshit, this is why they didn't question Cloud after that. Also if we don't put subtitles it is hard to understand what Hojo said so it is only a revelation for players who don't know the story and have good earing. Also later in the game we meet the son of Shinra and he have a chat with Cloud and we can cleary see that Cloud see himself as a SOLDIER.
Tifa likely doesn't fully believe that Cloud was in SOLDIER and Aerith probably doesn't either. But that isn't because of what Hojo said.

This is what I can't fully explained to myself. I agree that Aerith and Tifa know that Cloud is probably very fragile so maybe this is why they say nothing.

Well he did pick sephiroth up with' the blade of massamune and "kill" him after he was impaled on it. So I wouldn't say he was nothing but after hojo's experiments he was pretty much brain dead
Cloud never had Zack's memories. Their demeanor isn't even similar, he just took some cues from Zack and acted how he thought SOLDIERs should act. He remembers his childhood and everything.

Zack just died due to the Plot and Cloud's character development. Hojo is the main villain in FFVii root of problem Vii's plot.
I’ve only played FF7 remake so this scene kinda confused me. The first time I played this part, I was wondering where Cloud got his abilities from.
Midgar is basically the appetizer of FFVII. Would have been disappointing if new players guessed everything instantly even if, there’s already too many spoilers in this first part.
