What's sad is that cloud's embarrassment was for nothing. Above all Tifa just wanted to see him. She would not have cared if he was actually in soldier or not. For her he had already proved his heroism years before when he tried to save her at mt nibel when everyone else left her behind.
Not to mention for all she knew, SOLDIER was something you have to rank your way up into. He's been in the military for what, maybe 2 years at this point. And he's NOT a 5-star General? Jeez, Cloud, what a disappointment -_-"

@@jjbb84x Cloud only managed to become an infantryman in almost 2 years meanwhile Zack left his hometown at age 13 and by age 16 was SOLDIER second class with his superiors admiting he was first class material since he outperformed his peers by far(by the time Cloud and Zack were on Niffleheim he was already promoted to First class). Cloud admires Zack a lot but also plays agains thim due to his inferiority complex. SOLDIER is basically the special forces of Shinra and its true that it takes time to reach the higher ranks but if in 2 years Cloud is still stuck as infantryman clearly shows that he wasnt SOLDIER material, heck a SOLDIER third class is not insanely more powerful than normal soldiers (and thats why AVALANCHE members can deal with them very early even with some difficulty)
What makes this even sadder is that Cloud's mind is so fucked up by the events of the original FF7, he's not pretending to be SOLDIER, he actually believes he was one; meshing the stories Zack told him to his own memories after they got out of those pods.
Poor cloud got fucked up in the head so hard. He became close to Zack and watched him die in front of him and that further fed his complex that he was weak and couldnt protect anyone. Not tk mention all those years of experimentation and mako poisoning did not help at all
was a way to cope with the trauma to see his best friend and role figure die, as he also passed his legacy to him, but merging their stories was a way to cope with the pain from all his experiences and frustrations

He took all the mannerism and stories from Zack AND MEMORIES. In the OG it maybe seemed that he had something for Aerith, but it was always because of Zack's persona. It was reference to Zack. Real Cloud never loved Aerith more than as a friend. And Aerith for example didn't know the real Cloud. That's why Clerith is an illusion created by Zack's memories and even Aerith knows that it's not real. THAT'S THE WHOLE POINT IN HIS SPLIT-PERSONA. He isn't real Cloud until the Lifestream scene.
He decided to leave his hometown to try to join SOLDIER with the sole reason being to impress Tifa and get her to notice him. He wanted to become stronger for her, to be able to protect her, because he felt he wasn't able to do so before. He thought (incorrectly) that Tifa blamed him for her fall off Mt. Nibel and getting into a coma, and just the thought of her blaming him made him go crazy and "out of control" and "get into fights not even caring who it was." (FF7 OG) You go into his subconscious, and it's literally all just Tifa, how he felt about her, how he wanted her to perceive him, and how concerned he was about how she thought of him. Of course he would then be embarrassed and hard on himself in front of her for not making SOLDIER, since his entire life revolved around her.

I really really love the beggining of the first cutscene. It starts with Tifa in Cloud's (!!!) POV, she looks more.. softer and prettier? Cloud got mesmerised by her in that view, the way he got snapped to reality and slight confusion by her question kind of gives it away haha. I love the detail so much, its always endearing to watch Cloud get soft and unguarded around Tifa, even if for few seconds. :))

Because they have played the original game and realize that Aerith is a better romantic partner for Cloud. And because they know that Cloud and Tifa weren't even friends growing up, that they barely knew each other, that Cloud was an outcast, that Tifa was a popular girl in town, that it's a shallow thing for Cloud to try and become a bigshot like Sephiroth so that he can get the girl, or for Tifa to say that you're not good enough now but you will be once you're a bigshot Soldier, etc, ....
Because most people only remember the Midgar part of the game where Aerith is super pushy and because she dies. Tifa largely gets forgotten because her big moments do not come until later in the game after Erirhs death. The interesting thin is that Aeirth and Tifas personalities mirror eachother while others outfits gove the opposite impression.

People default to Cloud and Aerith because it is the easiest and most noticeable while Cloud and Tifa is only noticable if you actually pay attention to the dialog through put the game.

Tifa knew Cloud has changed but she kept it in secret, just trying to watching Cloud and protects him as much as she can. Cloud tried to imitate Zack's persona and his own image on what Soldiers are. He doesn't have Zack's memory but in his warped personality he does know Shinra is more twisted than what it is perceived as in the Newspapers.

The high exposure to mako and the injection of Jenova's cells during the experimentation hojo had him and zack tampered with Clouds memory causing him to forget some part of his past that has to do with working for shinra. When zack died, he took up on his identity and became zack. Not his character, but his role as SOLDIER and living his legacy then forgetting zack altogether thinking he was soldier from the start. Thats why Cloud could only piece together what he witnessed zack has done as his memory but later on in the story he struggles on trying to remember how he even got into SOLDIER. Cloud can still remember some of his past memories like his mother, tifa, and the burning of his hometown by sephiroth but he is struggling with who he was due to the jenova cells and mako exposure

I wish the same too, but I don't really have much qualms with the new VA for Zack. Just the way of his delivery. Voice actors can work around their "voice" pretty well, so I think the delivery's the problem. Hope they address it the next game.
The new voice actor sounds like he didnt know about Zack's story and the context of that scene After Zack has been through so much and accept his fate, his talking manner should he matured and calm, like Crisis core. But in the remake the voice actor makes Zack sound like a cocky rookie soldier However, after he beat the Shinra Troop and carry Cloud, the voice actor actually sounds good and on point. So i think he can still improve for the next game
I've read that Cloud Strife suffers from PTSD due to his buddy Zack dying in front of him which was revealed in FFVII Crisis Core and FFVII Advent Children Complete. Not only that but the war changed him. He always wanted to be a SOLDIER plus he was exposed to Mako and Jenova Cells which eventually fuelled a ficticious reality in his mind that he was and is a SOLDIER. This in our reality is called stolen valor.
To be fair, there's a bunch of differences between what happened with cloud and the punks that go around in public wearing a cobbled together uniform for brownie points. And given what cloud does accomplish under that illusion
Yeah except he was an infantrymen that was good enough to work with the great Sephiroth. And he was the one that actually stopped. I think the valor that he 'stole' is less than what he actually already had. He didn't even get supercharged with mako until after beating Sephiroth.

I just figured that it's going to be a pain to animate and render them taking their shoes and little mundane stuff off for that and the cost would probably be more than what its worth so just leave the character model as is

I'm so glad that it's getting remastered. And the fact that this remaster adds new shit so the Gameplay is better is just... Amazing. Those scenes where it's just text? All of that will be voiced. Plus the Animations will be better. You know. I'm Remake there's like 3 different versions. There's the CG Cutscenes. For example at the beginning of the game. There's the In-game Cutscenes and then there's Gameplay "Cutscenes" which lets you press Circle or triangle to skip a dialogue. Kinda similar to Yakuza. It's the same for Crisis Core. And the fact that they'll keep those 3 things for the Remaster and make them better is just better lol

Actually he was ashamed and embarrassed. Cloud told everyone he would become big time Soldier like sephiroth this is said by himself in repair cloud mind segment. By the time he joined shinra the war was over. So he didn't want to show his face anyone especially Tifa. Cloud is dense though Tifa already liked him. Tifa wouldn't have cared by the time she was older. For her it was just enough childhood friend was still alive because everyone else from their village is dead.

Actually, Cloud had jumbled memories between Zacks memories and his real memory, that's why in the game everytime cloud was asked about his past, he mostly got memory shock due to inconsistence of his memory. If you play the game he would have feeling towards Aerith in the first game which is actually Zack feeling not Cloud original feeling to Aerith. In the game, that past memories would be revelaed that after Nibelheim incident both Cloud and Zack suffered heavily from mako contamination. However, they still managed to get in coma state. Hojo feel that their situation is unique and mad them as his experiment together. He infuse them simultaneously with the same tube experiment from this, their personalities start to mixed up until the Zack death Later Tifa was the one who wake up Cloud from his memories down that make cloud unable to do anything. I forgot where the location. If I havent reached this story on the PS1 game, I will always think cloud with zack personalities The Crisis Core just support this fact precisely that Cloud still manage to live in the end with all of Zack memories
Aerith is really annoying. She is adorable and stuff but she is overly carefree and super passive aggressive. That is why I have alway preferred Tifa over her. Aerith is the type of woman that would drag you everywhere and she is a bit of a mental case

Cloud was distant as a Child and Tifa took intrest and tried to have him join the group but he would turn away. Believe it tied into his father dying that made him really closed off but he did have a crush on Tifa

Out of the Tiffa-Cloud way. It is scary but quite interesting watch Sephiroth standing chill in front a casual photo. Man always was an edge-lord, but at that moment, he got some of the nice mood. Just imagine, you meet and take a photo of someone whose about to genocide hours latter.
They make Cloud a better character in remake than in Advent Children. I sense hope in seeing these two happy together in the upcoming ending. It was boring to see Cloud brooding too much in AC despite having his family support him like Tifa. How could he ignore her kindness and care for him? Seriously. Tifa always work hard to see him happy. They need to change his lone wolf shit in AC. The fight is awesome but Cloud need to man up better in AC. If he already live with Tifa, they could still live a happy life for the sake of everyone and the fight they all went through. I hope when Remake is completed, Cloud will be seen appreciating and give Tifa his love better than the previous one.

As someone who goes through such things as well it isnt something one gets over and its just finished forever. Put survivors guilt for zack and aerith on top and its clear the canon that he felt happy with tifa and denzel but sad the happier he felt as too real. It took absolutely everyone in AC, even the dead to help cloud advance and its something that needs to be worked on tirelessly into the future as well
Hell, Cloud should practically be thanking Hojo for experimenting on him, as that's how he became strong enough to pass himself off as a SOLDIER. He also wouldn't have had the mixed up personality disorder which was pretty much what made him such a compelling baddass through most of FF7. If he was just some sulking yet social kind of dude then he most definitely woudn't have been as appealing as a character. One thing I always wondered about though is why Zack didn't become some sort of ridiculously powerful ultra SOLDIER after the experiments as he was subjected to the same experiments Cloud was, and if they were able to turn ordinary run of the mill grunt Cloud into a super SOLDIER, then Zack should have basically been unbeatable afterwards. This didn't seem to happen though, as Zack just ended up getting killed. So I always wondered why the experiments had so much more of an effect on Cloud than they did Zack.
Apparently, since Zack already went through standard SOLDIER stuff, his body actually resisted the experiments or something. So Zack being part of SOLDIER already doesn't seem to help.

Because he has PTSD and complex persona cause of the past incidents. Jenova cells, mako poisoning, Zack's death all that made his mind messed up. Some Zack's memories replaces his, but deep down there is a part of his real self which for example showed up in optional scene with tifa for a moment. You will probably see much more tifa and Cloud scenes especially some major ones from lifestream which will be really important to these two in part 2 of the game if the game do reach to this moments. Real Cloud is different than you can see now, for Tifa anyway much more warm to her because his memories and feelings will come back to normal

@@-TheCapedCrusader- The memory manipulation of replacing Zack in his memory with himself is 100% Jenova's doing as stated by the guide. The being cold part is Cloud's own doing, though.
From my point of view, the dialog and interactions in the remake shows Cloud and Aerith having more connections. They spent a lot of time together and throughout it, they connected socially. After Aerith escorted him back to sector 7 and she tells him she had a faster safer route. Cloud didn't complain or anything. He was genuinely happy (judging from his smile) that they traveled together even if the route was filled with hardships. Later on, we see him emotionally opening up to Aerith by telling her he's also worried, it's a sign that he cares for her well-being (C14 resolution). This was also shown when Cloud said he wasn't going to let Aerith go in alone into Corneo's mansion. Aside from having to help Tifa, he had to dance, something he never did! At the point, it was to accompanied Aerith more than to help Tifa. Anyways what sealed it for me was Tifa's reaction to seeing Cloud alive at the sector 7 entrance. "Cloud I thought you were dead. Thank goodness. I gotta go now. See you back in sector 7". I expected a stronger reaction if she really cared..... Lastly, Cloud's willingness to help Tifa. He did not have any concerns for her even if she was a strong person. At the point I was convinced their relationship wouldn't go further than being close friends. I never played the original so if I'm missing facts, my bad!

It's never clear just why he failed. There's two prevalent theories, the mental issues from self confidence would have meant he failed some kind of mental assessment. The second (and my preferred theory) is the idea he has a low tolerance to Mako exposure (or over-compatability as it were). Since SOLDIERS go through Mako infusion, if he doesn't test within safe limits, he couldn't be augmented with any degree of success, so automatic fail. This would also explain why he goes into a coma every time he's exposed to Mako, both during Meteorfall and from Hojo's experimentation.
My only gripe with this whole story is that Cloud defeated Sephiroth as a normie, yet he felt inaquedate enough to lie about his personality and past later on. Couldn't he defeat his insecurities after he defeated Sephiroth as a normie? That is the one thing I don't get. Maybe he is so perfectionalistically sentimental that he felt because he promised Tifa to be a SOLDIER that would save her, he absolutely *needs* to be a first class SOLDIER with all this background in other to seem perfect and not-a-dissapointment in Tifa's eyes. That's adorably sentimental in a way but that is also borderline personality disorder.
He defeated Sephiroth at the end of the Nibelheim Incident only for he and Zack to be collapsed, Tifa gets rescued by her master, and Hojo basically takes Zack and Cloud for experimentation for 4-5 years. Then Cloud basically has a completely different persona than his original one.
Tifa expecting Cloud to save her in times of need when he becomes a SOLDIER. They ended up saving the world together instead. Love that twist.

Cloud admires Zack a lot but also plays agains thim due to his inferiority complex. SOLDIER is basically the special forces of Shinra and its true that it takes time to reach the higher ranks but if in 2 years Cloud is still stuck as infantryman clearly shows that he wasnt SOLDIER material, heck a SOLDIER third class is not insanely more powerful than normal soldiers (and thats why AVALANCHE members can deal with them very early even with some difficulty)

Poor cloud got fucked up in the head so hard. He became close to Zack and watched him die in front of him and that further fed his complex that he was weak and couldnt protect anyone. Not tk mention all those years of experimentation and mako poisoning did not help at all
was a way to cope with the trauma to see his best friend and role figure die, as he also passed his legacy to him, but merging their stories was a way to cope with the pain from all his experiences and frustrations

He took all the mannerism and stories from Zack AND MEMORIES. In the OG it maybe seemed that he had something for Aerith, but it was always because of Zack's persona. It was reference to Zack. Real Cloud never loved Aerith more than as a friend. And Aerith for example didn't know the real Cloud. That's why Clerith is an illusion created by Zack's memories and even Aerith knows that it's not real.

He decided to leave his hometown to try to join SOLDIER with the sole reason being to impress Tifa and get her to notice him. He wanted to become stronger for her, to be able to protect her, because he felt he wasn't able to do so before. He thought (incorrectly) that Tifa blamed him for her fall off Mt. Nibel and getting into a coma, and just the thought of her blaming him made him go crazy and "out of control" and "get into fights not even caring who it was." (FF7 OG) You go into his subconscious, and it's literally all just Tifa, how he felt about her, how he wanted her to perceive him, and how concerned he was about how she thought of him. Of course he would then be embarrassed and hard on himself in front of her for not making SOLDIER, since his entire life revolved around her.
I wouldn't say is entire life revolved around her. I'd say she is the most important part of his life thought.

I really really love the beggining of the first cutscene. It starts with Tifa in Cloud's (!!!) POV, she looks more.. softer and prettier? Cloud got mesmerised by her in that view, the way he got snapped to reality and slight confusion by her question kind of gives it away haha. I love the detail so much, its always endearing to watch Cloud get soft and unguarded around Tifa, even if for few seconds. :))

Because most people only remember the Midgar part of the game where Aerith is super pushy and because she dies. Tifa largely gets forgotten because her big moments do not come until later in the game after Erirhs death.

Remember in the neighbour hood's watch, when you finished the quest then back to Biggs and Wedge, Biggs ask you "How about the sword btw?" then when Cloud say "Good, we had been through..." and he shock with mako again, looks like Jenova's cells or mako itself is trying to stop Cloud to speaking some toughy subjects.
Tifa knew Cloud has changed but she kept it in secret, just trying to watching Cloud and protects him as much as she can. That's why Cloud in a dangerous situation, Tifa is the only person who know it and make a move to find him and save him, ofcourse Cloud saved her too, many times.
Cloud tried to imitate Zack's persona and his own image on what Soldiers are. He doesn't have Zack's memory but in his warped personality he does know Shinra is more twisted than what it is perceived as in the Newspapers.
It's not Cloud who copied him, the Jenova cells did that and messed everything about Cloud even tampered his memory and people around him.

The high exposure to mako and the injection of Jenova's cells during the experimentation hojo had him and zack tampered with Clouds memory causing him to forget some part of his past that has to do with working for shinra. When zack died, he took up on his identity and became zack. Not his character, but his role as SOLDIER and living his legacy then forgetting zack altogether thinking he was soldier from the start. Thats why Cloud could only piece together what he witnessed zack has done as his memory but later on in the story he struggles on trying to remember how he even got into SOLDIER. Cloud can still remember some of his past memories like his mother, tifa, and the burning of his hometown by sephiroth but he is struggling with who he was due to the jenova cells and mako exposure

I wish the same too, but I don't really have much qualms with the new VA for Zack. Just the way of his delivery. Voice actors can work around their "voice" pretty well, so I think the delivery's the problem. Hope they address it the next game.

I've read that Cloud Strife suffers from PTSD due to his buddy Zack dying in front of him which was revealed in FFVII Crisis Core and FFVII Advent Children Complete. Not only that but the war changed him. He always wanted to be a SOLDIER plus he was exposed to Mako and Jenova Cells which eventually fuelled a ficticious reality in his mind that he was and is a SOLDIER. This in our reality is called stolen valor.
To be fair, there's a bunch of differences between what happened with cloud and the punks that go around in public wearing a cobbled together uniform for brownie points. And given what cloud does accomplish under that illusion
Yeah except he was an infantrymen that was good enough to work with the great Sephiroth. And he was the one that actually stopped. I think the valor that he 'stole' is less than what he actually already had. He didn't even get supercharged with mako until after beating Sephiroth.

This game was really good. You witness Zack grow. From being 2nd class the way he matures when he gets into 1st and when he dies. Really great
I'm so glad that it's getting remastered. And the fact that this remaster adds new shit so the Gameplay is better is just... Amazing. Those scenes where it's just text? All of that will be voiced. Plus the Animations will be better. You know. I'm Remake there's like 3 different versions. There's the CG Cutscenes. For example at the beginning of the game. There's the In-game Cutscenes and then there's Gameplay "Cutscenes" which lets you press Circle or triangle to skip a dialogue. Kinda similar to Yakuza. It's the same for Crisis Core. And the fact that they'll keep those 3 things for the Remaster and make them better is just better lol

Actually, Cloud had jumbled memories between Zacks memories and his real memory, that's why in the game everytime cloud was asked about his past, he mostly got memory shock due to inconsistence of his memory.
If you play the game he would have feeling towards Aerith in the first game which is actually Zack feeling not Cloud original feeling to Aerith. In the game, that past memories would be revelaed that after Nibelheim incident both Cloud and Zack suffered heavily from mako contamination. However, they still managed to get in coma state. Hojo feel that their situation is unique and mad them as his experiment together. He infuse them simultaneously with the same tube experiment from this, their personalities start to mixed up until the Zack death
Later Tifa was the one who wake up Cloud from his memories down that make cloud unable to do anything. I forgot where the location. If I havent reached this story on the PS1 game, I will always think cloud with zack personalities
The Crisis Core just support this fact precisely that Cloud still manage to live in the end with all of Zack memories

They make Cloud a better character in remake than in Advent Children. I sense hope in seeing these two happy together in the upcoming ending. It was boring to see Cloud brooding too much in AC despite having his family support him like Tifa. How could he ignore her kindness and care for him? Seriously. Tifa always work hard to see him happy. They need to change his lone wolf shit in AC. The fight is awesome but Cloud need to man up better in AC. If he already live with Tifa, they could still live a happy life for the sake of everyone and the fight they all went through.
I hope when Remake is completed, Cloud will be seen appreciating and give Tifa his love better than the previous one.

Put survivors guilt for zack and aerith on top and its clear the canon that he felt happy with tifa and denzel but sad the happier he felt as too real.
It took absolutely everyone in AC, even the dead to help cloud advance and its something that needs to be worked on tirelessly into the future as well

Hell, Cloud should practically be thanking Hojo for experimenting on him, as that's how he became strong enough to pass himself off as a SOLDIER. He also wouldn't have had the mixed up personality disorder which was pretty much what made him such a compelling baddass through most of FF7. If he was just some sulking yet social kind of dude then he most definitely woudn't have been as appealing as a character.
One thing I always wondered about though is why Zack didn't become some sort of ridiculously powerful ultra SOLDIER after the experiments as he was subjected to the same experiments Cloud was, and if they were able to turn ordinary run of the mill grunt Cloud into a super SOLDIER, then Zack should have basically been unbeatable afterwards. This didn't seem to happen though, as Zack just ended up getting killed. So I always wondered why the experiments had so much more of an effect on Cloud than they did Zack.
Apparently, since Zack already went through standard SOLDIER stuff, his body actually resisted the experiments or something. So Zack being part of SOLDIER already doesn't seem to help.

Because he has PTSD and complex persona cause of the past incidents. Jenova cells, mako poisoning, Zack's death all that made his mind messed up. Some Zack's memories replaces his, but deep down there is a part of his real self which for example showed up in optional scene with tifa for a moment. You will probably see much more tifa and Cloud scenes especially some major ones from lifestream which will be really important to these two in part 2 of the game if the game do reach to this moments. Real Cloud is different than you can see now, for Tifa anyway much more warm to her because his memories and feelings will come back to normal
Because it's called a love triangle drama. A new girl has to show up at an convenient occasion to steal the main protagonist. Have you played/read the Witcher? It's the same situation.

From my point of view, the dialog and interactions in the remake shows Cloud and Aerith having more connections.
They spent a lot of time together and throughout it, they connected socially. After Aerith escorted him back to sector 7 and she tells him she had a faster safer route. Cloud didn't complain or anything. He was genuinely happy (judging from his smile) that they traveled together even if the route was filled with hardships. Later on, we see him emotionally opening up to Aerith by telling her he's also worried, it's a sign that he cares for her well-being (C14 resolution). This was also shown when Cloud said he wasn't going to let Aerith go in alone into Corneo's mansion. Aside from having to help Tifa, he had to dance, something he never did! At the point, it was to accompanied Aerith more than to help Tifa.
Anyways what sealed it for me was Tifa's reaction to seeing Cloud alive at the sector 7 entrance. "Cloud I thought you were dead. Thank goodness. I gotta go now. See you back in sector 7". I expected a stronger reaction if she really cared.....
Lastly, Cloud's willingness to help Tifa. He did not have any concerns for her even if she was a strong person. At the point I was convinced their relationship wouldn't go further than being close friends.
I never played the original so if I'm missing facts, my bad!

So cloud never actually made it into SOLDIER due to lack of confidence and being of weak mind but heard at some point Zack state that cloud met the physical criteria which is kind of a bummer for him i guess, anyway he’s much more capable when we see him in FF7 but that due to everything that transpires in crisi core

Cloud not making into the Soldier program had nothing to do with his age. He had low self confidence at the time.
Probably not helped by the fact that he failed to protect Tifa on mount Nibel when they were kids.

It's never clear just why he failed. There's two prevalent theories, the mental issues from self confidence would have meant he failed some kind of mental assessment. The second (and my preferred theory) is the idea he has a low tolerance to Mako exposure (or over-compatability as it were). Since SOLDIERS go through Mako infusion, if he doesn't test within safe limits, he couldn't be augmented with any degree of success, so automatic fail. This would also explain why he goes into a coma every time he's exposed to Mako, both during Meteorfall and from Hojo's experimentation.
I'm thinking that Zack in the OG timeline now that he's alive, will be like a mentor for Cloud, grooming him to be a better person.

My only gripe with this whole story is that Cloud defeated Sephiroth as a normie, yet he felt inaquedate enough to lie about his personality and past later on. Couldn't he defeat his insecurities after he defeated Sephiroth as a normie?
That is the one thing I don't get. Maybe he is so perfectionalistically sentimental that he felt because he promised Tifa to be a SOLDIER that would save her, he absolutely *needs* to be a first class SOLDIER with all this background in other to seem perfect and not-a-dissapointment in Tifa's eyes. That's adorably sentimental in a way but that is also borderline personality disorder.
He defeated Sephiroth at the end of the Nibelheim Incident only for he and Zack to be collapsed, Tifa gets rescued by her master, and Hojo basically takes Zack and Cloud for experimentation for 4-5 years. Then Cloud basically has a completely different persona than his original one.
So Cloud's memory in FF7 Rebirth is completely corrupted / reversed?
