Apparently, Cloud's speech was actually recorded for the new game, but we don't actually get to hear it in the final product. So there's a very high chance we'll see the og Aerith death scene in part 3, uninterrupted. My guess is it will happen when Sephiroth shows Cloud and the others the Nibelheim flashback, once he's done with that part he'll pretty much completely break Cloud by showing him the truth about what happened to Aerith.

While I understand that people weren't happy they changed this scene, I also know it was a lose/lose scenario for SE. What could they do exactly? Keep it the same and people would be angry that the emotional impact wasn't the same because everyone and their grandmother knows its coming. Keep Aerith alive and the people would be angry they changed the story. Not really fair in my opinion.
I think people expected a faithful remake that didn’t alter the story after all square enix did technically market this game to be faithful remake that most people wanted 1v1 remake not a trilogy that take years to complete the saga and we can’t say square is not entirely faultless because after all square back in 2015 said they was going to change the story and then they backtrack that (I think) probably not to get backlash from hardcore fans, no matter what square knew from the start it was going to controversial to change the story and making a establish IP from 1997 into a multi part series
I just love that they made a new scene… which means we will have a very new situation going on in part 3. I honestly don’t mind the Remake is not faithful to the OG

You have to remember that this was in 1997, WAY before the internet, and way before spoilers. It was a complete shock. Aerith (Aeris at the time) was a main character, and it was almost unfathomable that something like this could happen.
I was 10 years old when I played this game for the first time, and I STILL remember how shocked I was.
Well this was a lot of people’s first Final Fantasy, and the death hits harder in 3D than the 16 bit deaths we got in Final Fantasy 4 and 6. Plus this was one of the few deaths Square didn’t walk back (like basically everyone who died in 4 except Tellah).

Yeah, in the Remake saga, they are censoring many things, like the original dialogue of Tifa about "Hate them all", or the beheaded body of Jenova.

@josecuestas7246 I think that may be more of localization thing than censorship. Censorship would be trail of blood being replaced with Jenova's slime or that weird smoke that would appear when Sephiroth stabbed the President and Barret, which was one of the few things that bothered me about Remake. Thankfully Rebirth had blood, except for the part when Tseng got stabbed, the weird gas returned for that one, maybe it indicates the fake Sephiroths since it didn't show up when Sephiroth killed the people of Nibelheim?
I was there when my family played this game back at the late 90s. I'll never forget that moment of Aerith's death. The emotional impact is peak storytelling for me.

I guess there was some truth to Sephiroth saying Cloud doesn't have feelings considering even in here, he doesn't have his Limit Gauge maxed out during the Jenova Life fight while everyone else does.
I hadn’t noticed until someone pointed it out but when Sephiroth stabs Aerith he does so through the exact same place in her back as he was stabbed by Cloud during the Nibelheim Incident. Even though from the direction he was coming it would have been far more efficient to stab her through her upper back.
I was expecting for Rebirth to make it more depressing, but it became a bit more confusing for me until I realized….😢
Also, before Rebirth came out, I was expecting the final fight to happen when Aerith died.

I’m just glad that in Rebirth, Cloud had the common sense to block off Sephiroth from stabbing Aerith.
Here, he is accompanied by the party but none of them even attempted to stop Sephiroth. Barret, Yuffie and Vincent could’ve just shot him out of the sky

Exactly. Furthermore he was supposedly accompanied by the entire party. Barret, Yuffie and Vincent could’ve just shot Sephiroth from the sky. Had 9 people to stop him yet none of them did.
Rebirth changed this such that Cloud reaches Aerith long before the rest of the party, so that they couldn’t defend her was understandable. At least Cloud did block Sephiroth this time and succeeded
Still sad, but for the Rebirth edition, this isn't her death scene.
She died in the Church.
This is just her doing what needs to be done for THIS timeline. She has to die to summon Holy & stop Meteor... Probably.
And she is dead, whatever Cloud is seeing, isn't her.
