@@alexnickson5927 the violet even sheds her beautifull fragrance on the heel that just crushed and kill her,she sheds her fragrance (love ) on everything and everyone even the thing that kills her(forgiveness).
@@alexnickson5927, I’ll be glad to give you my interpretation. Besides being a delight to the eyes; flowers are a delight to our nostrils with their magnificent fragrance. Walking past a garden, through a meadow, even if a breeze is nowhere to be found. The fresh aroma of flowers just uplifts you in a way that very few things can. The fragrance of a flower comes from within. It is its essence manifested in an invisible fashion. Imagine a flower (Violet) being crushed under the heel of a shoe. Especially if it was done intentionally. Petals smashed. The stem damaged. If it was done on a sidewalk, you could see the juices of the flower, which was previously invisible, slowly evaporating on the ground. The flower crushed is dying quickly. And, yet, it’s still giving off an aroma. At least presently. Its present condition hasn’t stopped what it was from coming out of it. And, that fragrance will be on that person’s shoe well into the night. I know that I’m being very wordy here. But, this was truth that I got from this quote. Though crushed, the forgiveness will stain that person. It will add to that shoe, even briefly, in a way unexpected. Like I said, I know that I was very wordy here. But, earlier. Someone said that they were going to have to let that saying marinate a little bit. And, as I did. That’s how it impacted me.
Whom Can We Trust If No One Is Trustworthy? One of my favorite quips from Mark Twain’s The Adventures of Tom Sawyer is when Tom is defined as “a glittering hero…the pet of the old, the envy of the young,” and there were “some that believed that he would be President, yet, if he escaped hanging.” With these few words, Twain captured the essence of leadership in our world. Those who get to the top are the fiercest, most determined, and most ruthless. Today, the latter quality has become so intense that we can no longer believe our leaders, and certainly not trust them to have our best interest in mind. I am not accusing any leader in particular, or even leaders as a whole. It is simply that in an egoistic world, where people vie to topple one another on their way to the top, the one at the top is clearly the one who trampled over and knocked down more people than anyone else. Concisely, to get to the top in an egoistic world you have to be the biggest egoist. So how do we know whom to trust? We don’t know and we cannot know. All we know is that we are in the dark. In a culture of unhinged selfishness, any conspiracy theory seems reasonable, while truth is nowhere to be found. When every person who says or writes something is trying to promote some hidden agenda, you have no way of knowing who is right, what really happened, or if anything happened at all. The only way to get some clarity in the news and goodwill from our leaders is to say “Enough!” to our current system and build something entirely independent. The guiding principle of such a system should be “information only,” no commentary. Commentary means that information has already been skewed. Information means saying only what happened, as much as possible, not why, and not who is to blame and who we should praise. Concurrently, we must begin a comprehensive process of self-teaching. We have to know not only what is happening, but why we skew and distort everything. In other words, we have to know about human nature and how it inherently presents matters according to its own subjective view, which caters to one’s own interest. To “clear” ourselves from that deformity, we must learn how to rise above our personal interest and develop an equally favorable attitude toward others. This is our only guarantee that our interpretation of things will be even and correct. Once we achieve such an attitude, we will discover that the bad things we see in our world reflect our own, internal wickedness. Our ill-will toward others creates a world where ill-will governs, and so the world is filled with wickedness and cruelty. Therefore, all we need in order to create positive leadership-and to generally eliminate ill-will from the world-is to generate goodwill within us. When we nurture goodwill toward others, we will fill the world with goodwill. As a result, the world will fill with kindness and compassion. By changing ourselves, we will create a world that is opposite from the world we have created through our desires to govern, patronize, and often destroy other people.
"The man who does not read has no advantage over the man who cannot read." That one struck me. "Loyalty to country always! Loyalty to government, when it deserves it" Struck me even harder.

“When I was a boy of 14, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when I got to be 21, I was astonished at how much the old man had learned in seven years.”
For my 14th birthday my dad gave me a plaque with this quote on it. I am now 56 and my father is gone, but the plaque has hung on the wall of my den for many years. When I read the quote it makes me melancholy and homesick for a time and place that no longer exists.
Mark Twain was definitely my favorite author when I was younger. I had to be careful where I was when I read his short stories, because sometimes I would laugh so hard that I would actually almost spit and things would come out of my nose... Not a cool look for a teenage girl. Lol. Laughter as physical exercise! Thank you mark Twain.
Me too, Girl-from-the-Bronx. One night while I was a boy, I was reading something of Twain's under the covers of my bed with a flashlight so my parents wouldn't know I was still awake. My dad suddenly whipped back the covers and asked what I was reading. I told him and he threw the book down on the pillow and said; "Don't ever do this again. You'll ruin your eyes. Sit up in bed and keep the light on. You can read all night if you like. Just remember that you WILL be going to school in the morning".
"Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions..." This is a huge one. Maybe not keeping away from them per se, but not taking their opinions to heart anyway. Many of the best things in my life were things I did without anyone else's approval.
As a 79-year-old, I like the quote: "The fear of death follows from the fear of life. {One] who lives fully is prepared to die at any time." As it happens, I am not afraid to die. Apparently the reason is that I was not afraid to live. Who knew?!?!
From childhood have loved Twain's pearls of wisdom. One of my favorites is the two most important days of your life are the day you're born and the day you find out why.
"Do something everyday that you don't want to do." Brilliant! I'm going to follow that. Make a habit of getting one dreaded task out of the way everyday. Completed tasks will mount up fast and a good defence tactic against procrastination.
Twain has a few good quotes, but the majority of his quotes are pretty limited in their scope - Twain is not exactly Jesus Christ. Twain became famous in his own lifetime and hence, a lot of what he said became self-conscious and merely entertaining. The “Do something every day…” is one of his worst quotes. Stop and think, if you don’t want to do something, there is likely a good ‘instinctive’ reason why not…again, think about it, who actually wants to slaughter animals or cut down forests or kill armies of people in ‘war time’…? Ironing your clothes doesn’t make you a good person, and manufacturing clothes irons is playing a part in our planet’s destruction, so it is actually the RIGHT thing to not want to iron your clothes, and it’s madness and stupidity to ‘force’ yourself to continue doing it.
@@1stEarlOfSurrey no, this is about procrastinating the things that need to get done but are not our favorites. It’s healthy so one doesn’t procrastinate which is unhealthy to the mind & clutters the pathways of constructive & helpful thought, not to mention adds to anxiety & depression. So to keep things simple, healthy & productive this quote is wonderful. I hate to take the time to clean the bathroom, scrub toilets, mop floors, wash windows, pay certain bills, etc…. It’s just better to knock them out little by little than to let them pile up & always play catch up. This is really about getting the little things done while they are still little & feeling better about it. Building the skills of moderation & maintenance.

But not at night😎
“Loyalty to country always!". Guess he wasn't so wise after all.
@@SCDJMU Country is the ground you live on, government is the temporary inconvenience that you let rule you.
It seems that loyalty to the government at this point is tantamount to treason to the country
"Honesty - the best of all the lost arts, " is my favourite quote by this honest man.
"He was truly a real heart poet, at heart!!" .. "Wisdom, and real common sense, that's being revealed, and needs to be remembered, and cherished" ... Blessings always, Ms. Deborah J. Steele - 1/28/22
Hello Deborah
If you pick up a starving dog and make him prosperous, he will not bite you. This is the principal difference between a dog and man. So true!
Didn't work on minorities, now they're in charge and created cancel culture, majority well and truly bitten
So so so so true !
No its not, dog have four legs, covered in fur and shit outdoos
@apple john , people who bring all their political and emotional baggage to a discussion or study of history or philosophy ultimately learn nothing from the exchange.
Here's another one from Mr. Twain that I believe is so true: "What gets us into trouble isn't what we don't know, it's what we know for sure that just ain't so."
I knew I was getting old when I saw this was released on my birthday. "If you tell the truth you don't have to remember anything", is a favorite of mine.
Every kid /term needs to listen to this. Even adults.

“Loyalty to Country Always,
Loyalty to Government, when it Deserves it.” ~Mark Twain
God is love and almighty God will speak to you upon your situation he will shine his face on you and let you be a testimony to only bring him more honor and glory in the name of Jesus
substitute your tribe for government.
No evidence Twain said or wrote "loyalty to government when it deserves it". Sorry. It has a nice ring to it, though.

Forgiveness is the fragrance that the violet sheds on the heel that has crushed it,
WOW!!!! That was powerful beyond words!!!
It is powerful I'm still letting that one marinate I won't ever forget that one.
I couldn't understand this one, sorry but care to simplify....
@@alexnickson5927 the violet even sheds her beautifull fragrance on the heel that just crushed and kill her,she sheds her fragrance (love ) on everything and everyone even the thing that kills her(forgiveness).
Yes favorite
@@alexnickson5927, I’ll be glad to give you my interpretation. Besides being a delight
to the eyes; flowers are a delight to our nostrils with their magnificent fragrance.
If it was done on a sidewalk, you could see the juices of the flower, which was
previously invisible, slowly evaporating on the ground. The flower crushed is dying quickly.
And, yet, it’s still giving off an aroma. At least presently. Its present condition hasn’t stopped
what it was from coming out of it. And, that fragrance will be on that person’s shoe
well into the night. I know that I’m being very wordy here. But, this was truth that I
got from this quote. Though crushed, the forgiveness will stain that person.
It will add to that shoe, even briefly, in a way unexpected. Like I said,
I know that I was very wordy here. But, earlier. Someone said that
they were going to have to let that saying marinate a little bit.

Loyalty to government when deserved."

Julia, that is good! I've met up with him several times, but always ended up going off on my own. I would have been better off with him by my side!
Hi Julia, it’s nice meeting you here.. I’m Richard by name, it would be nice getting to know you better, if that’s ok with you? My mom once said good friends are never too much to have. if you don’t mind, can we be friends??
Kindness is a language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see." The most beautiful quote of this video.
“When I was a boy of 14, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when I got to be 21, I was astonished at how much the old man had learned in seven years.”
My favourite because it's so true for each generation.
For my 14th birthday my dad gave me a plaque with this quote on it. I am now 56 and my father is gone, but the plaque has hung on the wall of my den for many years. When I read the quote it makes me melancholy and homesick for a time and place that no longer exists.

One of my favorite quotes from Twain, " You know you're getting old when everyone you meet reminds you of someone you already know."
Nice
someone once told me that the reason everyone looks so familiar, is because I'm so old I've already seen everybody once.
I never knew how Mark Twain was so great until reading these quotes! Oh the joy he has 'divided' with us.
My favourite quote of Mark Twain is "A lie can travel half way around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes"
Bravo!!!
I'm 75, and when I realized where and what I was doing wrong, and corrected it as best I could, death took on a whole new meaning...the fear was gone.
From childhood have loved Twain's pearls of wisdom. One of my favorites is the two most important days of your life are the day you're born and the day you find out why.
Hello! Alice, how’re you doing?
"Do something everyday that you don't want to do." Brilliant! I'm going to follow that. Make a habit of getting one dreaded task out of the way everyday. Completed tasks will mount up fast and a good defence tactic against procrastination.
ironing shirts, for exemple
