  • Here's my first weld-in roll cage attempt for my Porsche 911. DIY roll cage fabrication is not for the faint of heart, which is why I started with electrical conduit and pool noodles! #fabrication #rollcage. You will need a good quality tubing bender such as the JD Squared in this video. No tubing was scrapped which is a miracle as a beginner.
This video is a complete guide showing the following steps start to finish.
    a) Planning
    b) Bending
    c) Notching
    d) Welding
    e) Painting
    f) Install

Liking the idea of removable /bolted in side door bars.

Yeah, the side bars can be removed in about 5 minutes or less. I went through a lot of extra work to make the bolted connections as rigid as possible. Not sure how much that increases the stiffness of the car or not.

I’m not an expert but every track event tech inspection I’ve worked at the required distance was measured from the driver’s helmet. I know of taller drivers that removed seat bottom upholstery to meet that spec.

Makes sense. I put the main hoop as far back as I could and lowered the seat to the floor. I should be ok.
