I made one for my granddaughter but i did the strips for my first it turned out quite pretty i sniped with my scissors and after the first row i stopped and order the fiscar snips wow! What a difference.
I am so excited to do this quilt with my 12 year old granddaughter. She is already quite the crafter on her sewing machine; so this will be an exciting project for us to do together. Thank you for the great tutorial! You have a beautiful, soft voice to listen to! Thank you, Amber
Aw, this is a fantastic beginner project! I'm so glad you found it useful! Thank you so much for your kind words! I do plan on posting more tutorials at some point as I love to quilt! God bless and enjoy building memories with your granddaughter!
What an adorable quilt, Im going to try to make one, I will be a grandma for the first time, so I will try to make one the baby will arrive late February 2023, so I will start now!!! Baby reveal will be Sept or early October, so will use different baby colors. Pink, blue, yellow and mint green, I think it will look cute.🤷 Thanks you for sharing your adorable quilt.
Hi, Donna! Thank you so much! Congratulations on being a Grandma! New life is so precious! Our first grandbaby was born in January and we are smitten!! Your choice of colors sound perfect! Have fun!
No I have not but I’m going to make one real soon. I’m in the process of moving and I can’t wait. All the grandchildren are getting one this year. Thank you for sharing! 😍
Thank you so much for sharing this - I'm brand new to quilting but I've been dressmaking since I could reach a sewing machine! :) You have such a calm manner and soothing voice, I really enjoyed this tutorial and I've just subscribed, thank you :)
Hello. I too am new to quilting. I’m sure I’m going to need a different foot, my sewing machine is very inexpensive and tiny. Is that what I ask for? A quilting foot? I’m sorry if the question seems silly! Your video was my favorite. You explained the reason behind everything and it was not overly long. Thank you for the tutorial!
lynette a Thank you so much! 💕 Rag quilts are wonderful beginner projects! 😊 I also posted a tutorial on sewing gift bags, which is another great, easy project. 🌸 Thanks for watching!
Just started watching your videos I’m on WW and came across this one I have a sewing machine but it’s been years since I had used , I got into making greeting cards I’m a Stampin up Demostrator
Thank you! Depending on the size you want to make, but I’d say about 2 yards. Batting also comes in select sizes (crib, twin, queen, etc) so you can also purchase by the bag rather than by the yard.
❤ So the size you are making in this video will only be for a baby quilt size, so for a queen size quilt, would I need 2 yards of each color plus more for whatever backing I choose?? (First time quilter here, lol).
There are all sorts of quilting calculator apps but you will need roughly 8 yards of fabric for a Queen Size quilt for the front and another 8 yards for the back. If it were me, I’d begin with a throw size rag quilt and work my way up. That way, you can gain experience as you go. 🩷 Thanks for watching and happy quilting! 🌷
Hello, I was wondering if you could use a cotton fabric along with a flannel fabric, or does it need to be all flannel? That is a beautiful quilt you made. Thank you for sharing. ❤️ 🙂
Yes, you absolutely can use cotton along with the flannel fabric. The only difference will be in the ragging effect in between the seams. It will still rag up but will just be a thinner appearance. Try it out on a small project and see if you like it. The wonderful thing about quilting is it’s a beautiful creative outlet that allows you to be the designer! Blessings! 💝
@@authenticallyamber99 thank you for getting back to me so quickly. I am subscribing to your channel because you give the best instructions for doing the projects. Plus, you seem like someone I could sit down and craft with. 🙂
Joanna Becker Hi there! Welcome! I’ve made a ton of rag quilts and I never prewash. Some people do, I suppose. Mine work out just fine though. 😊 Thanks for watching! Happy quilting! 🌸
Hi there! 40-60” for width and 50-70” for length is what my online search says. I’d probably go with something in the middle range, slightly larger than crib size. Happy sewing! 🌷
Just viewing your video it’s beautiful 😍. I would like to make one for a friend who had a baby but, I made a birth announcement that I crossed stitch and I would like to attach to the quilt. Any suggestions as to how to attach?
Did that make a Twin size? I have made them back when I was a 4-H'er but I'm watching your video as a refresher for Girl Scout Troop Silver Project. We're making twin and twin xl blankets for Foster Care and Operation First Response. This video was a GREAT help!!!
Thank you so much! 😃 This is a generous crib size quilt. Final dimensions are 39.5”x54”. Just add more squares to make it twin size. Standard twin size is 70”x90”. 🌸
I've always just treated them like the straight edges of the quilt and continued even spaced snips, however the last few I've done, I've snipped at an angle on the corner. Either way works. Just a matter of preference. Thanks for watching!
Thank you so much! I purchased that fabric at Zinck's Fabric Outlet in East Earl, PA, just outside of Lancaster in the spring. I immediately fell in love with the colors and florals! Thanks for watching! Happy sewing!
You can use a disappearing ink pen to draw the line corner to corner using a ruler. There’s also seam tape you can adhere to sewing machine to follow the straight line.
Hi, Tina! Thanks so much! You know, I realize that many suggest pre-washing fabric...I just never have taken the time to do that. That said, I'm not an expert...Haha! I suppose, for optimal results, one should take the time to pre-wash. :) Blessings & thanks for watching!
Hi, Vicky! Some people do, but I never have and it's been fine. I think if you use a good quality fabric, it shouldn't shrink much, but it's personal preference. Thanks for watching! Blessings!
Lisa Maestas You’re very welcome! 😊 I use a Janome DC2013 & absolutely love it! I had a Kenmore previously which is a good beginner machine. I did a lot of research on machines for quilting and am delighted with the Janome! I’ve had it for 7 years and it operates like new still! 💕 Thanks! God bless!
@@authenticallyamber99 Thank you! I have a basic Brother machine but am ready to upgrade. I appreciate your reply and look forward to watching more of your videos. Blessings!
Flannel fabric from a good fabric store or Walmart. Not flannelette...at least I haven't used that before. I suppose you could, although the flannel makes it to rag up nicely once you've snipped all the edges.

This is crib size.
When you are snipping the edge of the quilt how do you do the corners?

Can I use cotton material instead of flannel for a rag quilt
Yes, you can. It just won’t rag up as nicely as the flannel. Try it and see if you like it. If not, try it with the flannel. 😃 Thanks for watching! 🌷
I have trouble with my X’s straight…any tips??
You can use a disappearing ink pen to draw the line corner to corner using a ruler. There’s also seam tape you can adhere to sewing machine to follow the straight line.
You’ll improve with time and practice.
Wonderful tutorial. How do you feel about washing your material before you sew? I get mixed reviews from a wide variety of people.

Flannel fabric from a good fabric store or Walmart. Not flannelette...at least I haven't used that before. I suppose you could, although the flannel makes it to rag up nicely once you've snipped all the edges.
