I'm going to say the Fargen is closer to a plexi but the Remedy has it's own thing going. I love it and the Route 66 too. And the KT45. And the SRZ65. I love Z's. And the Antidote!
Great demo. The fargen truly nails that JMP tone and if you want a reliable JMP, it's a nicely priced and reliable choice. The remedy sounds great and brings its own take on the JMP tone, a little tighter and a little more presence, it sounds a little more modern to me but they're both awesome!
Theyre both awesome, the Fargen sounds just the way you imagine a marshall would, the drz is smoother like a bit more fender majic creeped back into the circuit. I like both equally but in different ways like having 2 children.
The Remedy has a bit of natural compression that can make the chords a little too mushy, that said, I love how it sounds on the solos and the single note stuff, cuz it's really thick. I sold mine three years ago and I'm buying it back tomorrow.....I'm looking forward to getting it back! I really regretted letting it go. I want to try an eq into it now and see how much that changes everything.
They both sound great.Z sounds good at 40 for sure, but i think the Fargen is the amp id choose.I just got a Rockitt Retro plexi clone and i think its pretty close to the Fargen tone.I love hearing new amps, especially plexi clones.nice demo of both amps
Great demo, Mike. Just confirms to me that I made the right choice in the Remedy. The Fargen sounds great, but I think I'm hearing more harmonic content with the Remedy(40w). Other than that, the basic overdrive tones sound very similar on these two(at least to my old ear).
The Z has better note definition and more harmonic overtones. But I think it may be a bit harsher than the Fargen. At high gains the harmonics of the Dr Z seems to be a bit too much? Maybe my cheap speakers. I wonder if it's the same cab they are going through? I can't see why you wouldn't be happy either either. They mostly overlap rather than differ. I recently acquired a non MV remedy, but am unable to crank it enough due to the obscene volume involved (even with a smaller air brake lite. Need to break out the Aracom). But I find it a decent clean amp/ through a 2x12 open back for cleans and edge of breakup. Very smooth and pleasant if not glassy clear.
Awesome demo. I love the Fargen head. But I think I'd rather see the Dr Z Carmen ghia go head to head with it. For me, that's the best amp Dr Z is making right now
Nice demo Mike! The remedy to me sounds buzzier/ Fizzy compared to the Fargen if you skip back and forth between the two. The Fargen sounds like my old 70's JMP.
Both sound great, but to my ears the Fargen sounds better. Check out that cleaner tone he gets with the Fargen....really sounds pretty darn special if you ask me. I almost bought one of these and ended up buying a Landry LS100 G3. Another fantastic amp.
The Fargen all day long if 60's Marshall tones are your quest...clean and OD tones are both terrific, but the broken glass cleans from the Fargen can't be touched by the Z imho
I like the Z more. The Fargen is close but lacks the definition of the Remedy but insteady has a "wooly sound" in the lower frequencies and a more pronounce kind of nasal sound that I think might have something to do with the cab but less noticable through the Z.
What guitar were you using?? Kinda has a humbucker tone.. Play that Z with a Tele and I think the tone will favor the Z!!! The Fargen sounds great don't get me wrong!! Killer perhaps however, the Z is way more versatile for Club work..
Sorry Brian a Fender never sounded like that. The Fargen grinds fantastic. The z is throathy and honks. Similar sound but different tonality. Could just be the EQ but.... Both sweet, no loser or winner here. On stage you'd never know the diff.
Wow that Fargen simply nails every damn JMP nuance. Best sounding clone I've heard.
Thank you for playing CHORDS!! - too many "demos" out there on youtube riddled with endless soloing.

FARGEN SOUNDS FUCKING AWESOME! PURE BRITISH PLEXI MADNESS.
Thanks for this. The Fargen is dead on but I like the fuzzy overtones the Z gives. They each have their own character and both sound killer

Fantastic playing BTW - may I ask which speaker(s) you are using? open/closed back cab? Sounds like greenbacks or G12H30's to my ears...
Awesome demo. I love the Fargen head. But I think I'd rather see the Dr Z Carmen ghia go head to head with it. For me, that's the best amp Dr Z is making right now
How do they sound when run clean?

What speaker were you using in this comparison? As always you sound great bro.
Hi, I am using to Weber legacy 30 W speakers.
Is this Fargen a pre decade-pot model that's a KT66 45watt clone ?
what decade were you using on the fargen? Z sounds pretty wicked on 40 watt setting!
Usual couple of clicks on the BL on both amps?

Scott Matheson its based on the 10,000 Series Superbass, so it is expected to be wooly as it should be..
Sound good Mike.
Have you ever tried a Metropoulos? (I'm thinking of getting the 1967 10,000 series clone.)
datBdat I have not actually.
dialed in at 5:50 …Perfect!!!

Z eats Fargen
CG is a great amp but it doesn't really get into the same territory as these two amps. I used to own one myself...
Good stuff!
Sorry Brian a Fender never sounded like that. The Fargen grinds fantastic. The z is throathy and honks. Similar sound but different tonality. Could just be the EQ but.... Both sweet, no loser or winner here. On stage you'd never know the diff.
Very close, my ears prefer the Z. The Z sounds a bit more reckless.
Im still liking the Z....
4.40 wow!
Remedy sounds thinner and more high mids. Just does not have the growl of the Fargen!
Fargen "SMASH" DR. Z .
Dr Z by a mile.
Fargen
