Repair Stuck Turtle Mode on Numotion Permobil M300 powerchair

  • My daughter's Numotion Permobil M300 powerchair has been plagued with an issue of going into Turtle Mode which causes it to slow down to a crawl. This can be a real PITA especially when you need to get the chair out of the way or across the street etc.
    At first it would just enter Turtle Mode more rarely and we learned that tilting the chair back and then forward would reset it.
    But lately the chair was entering turtle mode very often.
    The fastest way to reset it was to KICK the side of the chair.
    (It pissed me off when it happened a half dozen times when we were getting around a store).
    I figured it would likely be some sort of "end switch" position sensor and indeed it was.
    The circuit going to the main control board had no continuity.
    I didn't even bother to find out if it is the wiring or just the switch. We don't care for the feature of entering turtle mode when the seat reclines so I just bypassed it entirely by placing a jumper across the two pins on the circuit board connection. :-)

    What a cool dad! I came here cause I was going up my ramp and my K/C300 stopped suddenly in my doorway. I have a red turtle flashing (it's usually yellow for a few seconds right when I turn it on, then goes off). My battery indicator shows full charge. I don't have your electronics skills but since it's the weekend and it takes a while to get a techie out here, I'm trying to see what I can do to get it going again.

    Wheelchair Reset for permobile wheelchair - hold buttons 3 5 6 togetAether and while holding those buttons turn the chair on 'all buttons will be flashing red' then press button 4 twice while wheelchair is flashing red then wheelchair works by itself, keep the wheelchair in an area with plenty of room while your wheelchair goes through the motions

    Thank you for sharing,
    BUT just spray some electronic contacts cleaner available in Walmart auto department may be all it needs.
    Its internal metal contacts can become tarnished over time and the spray will clean them like magic.
    I'd try that first before considering bypassing that anti tilt safety switch! Otherwise the whole chair may fall over onto your daughter in the right situation like on uneven ground with the seat elevated.
    Professionals always try to fix things first, bypassing is a last resort.
    Did you even check on a price for worse case, a new switch?
    Take care

    • @hackfreehvac

      The switch is for idiots and she accepted my instruction to not drive with it tilted and simply didn't drive it with it tilted.
      This video is 4 years old.
      But anyway, this worked to get her mobile again at the moment.

    Hi! Sorry to bother you! Did you have to splice any wires when you did it? Or did you just use electrical tape?

    • @hackfreehvac
      @hackfreehvac  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can't remember exactly however if I recall I connected the two wires together that lead to the failed end switch with a crimp connector.
      As long as the wires maintain a good connection it should be ok

    This is exactly what's messing up on my C300. I'm going to try to do this, but I am not technical at all. What do I need to do it? I moved and the local places wont repair my chair until I basically get it recertified and establish a new doctor.

    • @hackfreehvac
      @hackfreehvac  ปีที่แล้ว

      Look for a switch under the tilt switch that closes a contact when the seat is fully lowered. When the seat is not fully lowered it stays in TURTLE mode.
      The wiring broke at our switch. I just connected the wires together.
      It's just a dummy switch so someone won't try to go fast while in tilted position

    • @hackfreehvac
      @hackfreehvac  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It has been a while since this happened however for this chair it was the switch that is closed when the seat is not reclined.
      When the seat is reclined at all the switch is not held closed and it will place the chair into TURTLE MODE as a safety feature so it remains slow and more stable.
      Our switch failed.
      I simply bypassed the switch (connected the two wires together) and my daughter knows not to recline and drive the chair.

      It always did when it was on fastest speed in outdoor mode but with Turtle Mode activating when it wasn't supposed to the unit would move at about HALF of walking pace! It was horrible when that happened and she was traversing across a large area like out in the parking lot to get back to the vehicle.
      This last week the thing was going into turtle mode every time she started to move then I'd kick it to get it out of turtle mode only to have it go back to turtle mode a few seconds later!

      Hello, Hackfreevac
      I'm currently having the same problem with my wheelchair. What exactly did you do to get it to disable turtle mode? I followed your video but turtle mode seems to still be on and I wanted to see if there were any instructions I missed.
      Hope to hear from ya soon,

    My chair keeps doing that and know wont go off.

    • @hackfreehvac
      @hackfreehvac  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Does the chair have the recline feature?
      When it is not flat the end switch under the seat will be an open circuit keeping it on turtle mode.
      In our case the switch or wiring went bad. I simply bypassed it.

    Nope not on my chair. It’s all electronics stupid Amy systems I wish it was that simple. The old Amy systems chair was that simple and then they decided to make it all safe with these ridiculously over the top sensors and shit. I want a new chair and this one only has 700 miles on it total lemon.
