Fantastic video! I wish more people appreciated these movies! Also Superman saving that cat is totally in line with his character. Thanks for such a great video!
For sure. Without Superman, we might not have as many comic book movies as we do, today. Also, I don't know why the links aren't working for you; they're showing up for me. That's odd lol.
So the black and white opening scene of a kid reading a comic book is very important for setting the tone of this movie, it’s reminding the audience in the theater in 1978 that this big budget motion picture is about an iconic character, but a character from COMIC BOOKS that’s really geared for kids. It’s the initial, nostalgic wink and nod to the audience that it’s ok to suspend reality. Goodness knows superheroes do some crazy stuff and, prior to the 1980s when comic stories began to get more gritty and grounded, superheroes could resolve problems in some pretty whimsical and unrealistic ways. For example, flying so fast around the earth that you reverse its rotation and, therefore, reverse time. Voila!!! Superman saves the day! This works like a charm in comic books before the 1980s. But, by the late 1980s to 1990s sophisticated comic book readers would call BS on that goofy Silver Age crap! That’s also why some don’t like Gene Hackman’s portrayal of Lex Luther. He’s goofy and relatively non-threatening, with dopey side-kicks and no mega money or technology available as a corporate head of a global industry. Yeah, in 1978 Lex was still a mad scientist on the lamb trying to use schemes and develop gadgets to defeat Superman . . . think Lex Luther for the Challenge of the Super Friends’ Legion of Doom. Hackman was the perfect Lex of the time.
Superman praise on the internet. The world is slowly healing. ❤

Lotta people need to realize how much this movie helped comics and superhero media in general.
Also, you forgot the link at the end? I can't see it! 😄
