    Those first few minutes - what a great decision: no intro, just drive. This is, without a doubt, my favorite build series on the internet. EDIT - I've got some balls you can inflate!

      It's called being hella flexed on. He super flexed on us. Salt bae flexed us so hard.
      Yes, I'm jealous and no, you're crying!

      Agreed. I wish more channels would do these asmr type videos. So many have amazing engine and exhaust soundtracks that they cover up with stupid music.

      Completely agree. More intro less talking :) j/k... but seriously...

    Perfect engine for that car and well engineered.

    This video is the essence of what made and what MAKES Speed Academy a great channel. Congrats Dave (and Pete) on building an incredible machine. This is the content we’re all here for. Long live Connie.

    My first car was a 72 Celica in 1988 and got sold by my Dad while I was in England for 2 years. By some miracle I found in 2 years ago. It sat in a bone yard for 25 years. Love what you have done here SA!

  • @yuriypolevoy

    The first few minutes were a cinematic masterpiece! No dialogue, just the engine doing the talking.
    This build was a pleasure to watch you guys killed it!

  • @draggonhedd
    @draggonhedd ปีที่แล้ว +32

    For the brakes, could you change the pedal lever ratio? move the mount point for the pushrod closer to the pivot. More leverage but also more pedal movement, taking some of the touchiness out of it, giving you more granular modulation.

    • @3doghaus
      @3doghaus ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I agree. Figuring out how to adjust pedal ratio is the first place I'd look before swapping out the whole assembly.

    My pleasure guys, this series has been such a joy to watch, and I hope Connie gets some more attention and we get some more content in the future. I would love to see some hot laps once everything is sorted out, and see what sort of times she has in her. Have a nice day guys, and keep the content coming, thank you so much for your effort.
    PS: The intro was just perfection ❤

    Great video. Yes, loved the asmr in the beginning. The transition from street to track around 02:30 was really cool. One of the top videos from your library/videos guys. Thanks for taking us along this adventure - was quite nostalgic. Love the vrooom vrooom!!! and the carbs... heh - again nostalgic. Love the look and yes, the recessed look of the front is great.

    I grew up in Puerto Rico and the sounds of Toyota Corollas with 3TC engines and Weber side draft carbs was really common in the 80s and 90s. Actually the 3TC was the engine swap of choice for old Datsun 210, Fastback Deluxe and Mitsubishis rebadged as Dodge like the Colt, Sapporo and Arrow.

    Viewers don’t complement your cinematography efforts much, but in this video, it’s front and center. Based on how the build was shot overall, it’s my favorite of all the builds you’ve done. Can’t imagine how much effort went into nailing the drone shots and merging all those camera angles together into that amazing final product!

    1" to 13/16" master is a massive change. If that didn't solve it I would suspect that the caliper pistons are just way too small. With everything else going on though, a new pedal box is probably going to be the best solution.

    I think I've said this before and I understand you're at the mercy of short summers- but videos where the cars actually get out on track are so much better than endless builds.
    I'd happily watch long/unedited track sessions with just a bit of text about what the car was doing and feeling like, then some detail of any changes made between sessions.
    Maybe aim for builds only through winter, driving only through summer?

    I was not able to find time off my work to ride along but i was able to hear it from my vendor truck. This video does it justice.

    This build I watched from end to end. Very sentimental for me actually, my dad used to rally in Tanzania in a 1977 Celica GT which he lifted and modified heavily for rough off road rallying.
    I always wondered what happened to it as I grew up. I wish he had kept it.

    Change the pivot point in the brake pedal. Carry it the fork in the booster closer to the pivot less leverage.. also your equalizer/ proportion valve was not designed for the upgrade... Finally.. check the engagement /gap between the master and booster rod

    Love how it turned out. I'd like to see some performance numbers, like 1/4 mile, 0-60, etc.. For a lightweight car, 200ish HP is a lot. I'm shooting for 135~145 on mine, which is a bit lighter being the RA20.

  • @jimw3799
    @jimw3799 ปีที่แล้ว

    This was a trip down memory lane for me. I had a 76 model that was such a fun car... Certainly not a racer in its stock configuration, but those body lines just bring so many memories. Unfortunately, that car was totaled when a guy ran a red light and hit me in the side and knocked me into the oncoming lane and head on into a full size van. My only injury was my right hand was on the gear shift and slipped off and into the AC vent. Nice scar on top of my hand to remember that car. I got a 80 model as a replacement... nice car but not nearly the body as that 76.

    Nicely done. This car has an incredibly clean look to it that so many other modified cars lack. I realize that many prefer the liftback version of this car, but I've always thought that the coupe configuration like this example looks the best with the 1st gen Celica's. By the time the 3rd gen cars came along my opinion had flipped. For a few years back in the 80's I drove a '77 Celica GT coupe so I tend to feel a bit sentimental on those rare occasions when I see a 1st gen Celica these days.

    Brakes - Have you had the booster out, with the master removed at any point? Its possible for the reaction disc on the end of the output shaft to become dislodged and fall inside the booster, and it'll basically make it binary... on or off. Have a google about it, there were some old datsun 240z threads about it. I had it happen on a Starion I used to own. Definitely worth a look.
