Seriously, the Connie Celica saga, from it's beginning days all those years ago, through the end of this current build, will probably become one of *THE* go-to build series for anyone looking to do their own 1st gen Celica project. Make us all proud, fellas! But also, what no one thinks about in a build like this: being nickel and dimed to death on all the small fixtures, clips, fittings, etc..... My wallet is groaning as I watch this!
Connie is easily the coolest project. I have been waiting for so long! Get Moose in there even if it's just to jack up a corner with his raw beastlyness when you put the wheels on😅
So good to see you sticking with a performance inline 4 on this build! Those old Celicas have always been super cool and now that they're rare, putting a V-8 in one (like another unnamed builder on YT) is IMO cliche and just a really awful idea. Love this car! I remember in the early 70's Toyota had a magazine ad showing a blue/white Celica race car with fender bulges and wide 13 inch tires running through a corner. The image is still in my mind!
I'm planning on doing a very similar engine build in my Altezza so the revamp of Connie is proving to be helpful. I'll be using the same Panic 52mm ITBs. Aiming for 250 whp with 12.5:1 compression pistons revving to 9k.
Loved the late seventies celicas since I started think about cars in the seventh grade..... By the time I turned 16, I was six foot six inches so Japanese coupes were out of the question. cool build, no matter how tall I am..
Was a bit disappointed when the ITBs were being worked but not engine noise being made. Loving the restomod nature of this build. So simple and tidy under the hood. 15 days is possible. Let’s goooooo!!!
Really like mentioning how many days it’s taking to build. Gives perspective and it’s not a cheesy “we have 4 days to build this car or my dog dies of cancer” type of nonsense time pressure
You are still going to start and finish before I complete my project. :D Can't say I've watched too much from you folks since Connie content dropped off so glad to see this.
I really am delighted to watch this build of the Celica from this time! Thank you. I'm not sure if they've counted the days it took to get the car to the place it is at in this video which would have been quite a few I'd imagine. Projects don't begin when the car is stripped and prepped for an engine and almost ready for paint. But I'm sure they know all that.Edit: I also would think they know they're starting with a car they already had worked on and that being it isn't plagued by major rusty bolts and corrosion. Although they've done plenty of work on those types of cars no doubt. LOL.
Absolutely love Connie and the attention to detail down to the last nut and bolt. I gotta find me one of those catalogs that you pulled out of your tool box in the first episode!
“I’ve seen a lot of plow action lately” didn’t think we we’re gonna let that one slide by did you? Lol I’m happy for you but there’s no need to brag! 😂
Good morning from Aruba. 🇦🇼 Also: Since it's a white paint job, wouldn't ceramic coating help keep it clean by repelling stuff that would make it hard to keep clean?
Best to wait an hour, depends on the formula but when I used Ultra black says wait an hour before going full torque, just get it up evenly loose before that. Best seal: Clean surface & any potential drips that could happen while installing & set time (carb cleaner works well and a rag, double check before install that the gasket surface is not oily after you let it drip for a day or so & wipe any drips that have formed that could drip onto the pan bead, bead like shown, put a little on the outside of the bolt holes to give the bolts more resistance during torque to prevent low spots on gasket, tighten down hand tight evenly cross pattern, wait 1 hr then torque specs, don't put oil in it for 48 to 72 hrs if you can help it 24hr minimum wait. In cold temps you may not want to do this at all but if you do you might have to wait even longer than that but put a heater of some sort safely near it to get it to set faster. Carb cleaner also remove the old FIPG pretty well.
This car is super nice. Something else that I liked was that you skipped the "coming up" teaser at the beginning and got right to it. I felt for a couple of episodes that the "coming up" didn't really tell me much about exactly what was happening. I was skipping that bit in other episodes. Not sure if others felt the same way ...
Are you still running the AE86 stock crossmember or did you move to one of the Xcessive units (and if so, which series?)? I want to remove the least amount of material from the oil pan bracing as possible and am wondering which option offers the best position for the steering rack. This just keeps getting better and better, thank you for posting everything in such great detail!
New to the channel and enjoying. If you feel so inclined, I’m interested in information on the motor, what it’s swapped from and whatnot, specs kind of quick info.
It's hard to tell but did you put a new water pump on it or a new cambelt and tensioner. Cuz you had the engine pulled apart on a stand. It's not expensive or alot more work
Hold on. Can we talk about how the engine hoist and engine stand fit together?? (7:10) WHY DIDNT ANYONE TELL ME TO TURN THE ENGINE AROUND ON THE HOIST!!! Game changer
There will be more goo on the inside of the oil pan than what you squeezed out on the outside. Just like what you see inside the intake runners. That sealant will eventually fall off and block the pickup in the sump. 3mm? How about 1? If I were you, I'd do that again.
Nice car. But rushing a car build isn't something I would do. Not replacing those brake lines is ridiculous to me. I couldn't stand behind my quality of work if it's rushed for whatever reason.
Think I'll keep the AE111 ITBs because I have fantasies of building an AE82 FX16 GTS one of these days. We used an AW11 pedal but the angle the pedal face sits at is a bit too upwards compared to the brake pedal, so the homey Joshiroku is sending up an AE86 pedal since that'll match the angle of the Celica brake and clutch pedals better according to Beams Celica guru Matt Panic.

😍😍😍
You guys need to get your hands on an RS200 Altezza fast. Do a turbo build since not many people are doing them. They will be 25 years old in July.
When is moose back
This ☝️
It's rutting season, Moose is busy.
@@Smokkedandslammed 😂
don't worry, there will be Moose sightings soon!
Measuring with Moose ❤
I love the timeline. Could be 15 days, could be 50. I feel like that is my entire life with any project!
Speed academy makes my Saturday morning coffee taste better.
That hose removal using the bent needle nosed-pliers is quite handy. Super skills Saturday w/ Speed Academy Squad
Connie is easily the coolest project. I have been waiting for so long! Get Moose in there even if it's just to jack up a corner with his raw beastlyness when you put the wheels on😅

Thanks for showing the nut and bolt, lines parts of this build, it’s easy to gloss over that stuff
I found your channel back when you first started working on Connie with moose. I've been waiting for this!
Those stud removal sockets are nice. Definitely saved me more than a few times.
No matter the time take the restoration, you are make a beautiful work
I’d love to see the times this old chassis puts down on your test track to compare to modern cars.
100% will do timed laps in her when she's done and dialled in.

Kelford TRD spec cams are in your future. 304deg inlet and exhaust. Can hear that engine screaming
Definitely thinking about cams as the next upgrade, once the car is up and running again.
All of the little bolts and grommets and stuff are pretty satisfying :)
that bolts cabinet is the stuff of dreams.
when you use the sump splitter, you hit it in and then you hit it sideways around the pan
I'm so glad you guys are touching this car again.
This is gonna look so freakin good 🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻

Great work guys.👌🏻 I know Simon. Great seeing his stuff on Connie
Great episode! A Celica will rise!
if you guys didn’t have to film, you would finish quicker! I know how it goes but this project will be worth every video!! 🙏🏽🙏🏽😎
Very nice!! The gold bolts look classy I like it!
The only yt build series I actually watch
1 mm bead squish, perfect.
The Canadian in me that knows how to plow at an angle had me chuckling 😂
so excited to hear that engine running. ITB + Trumpets = win
My first car was a 78' celica gt liftback. This is dope to see
You are still going to start and finish before I complete my project. :D Can't say I've watched too much from you folks since Connie content dropped off so glad to see this.
Love the new parts and its been awhile since working out of a garage lol. Keep it up guys!

I love the ITB's!
When I had my Five and Dime, I had dual Webers, and the sounds they made at WOT was glorious!
I love Connie! The itb's are amazing! I'll own an itb car some day! Let the beams rip!!

This car is too nice
What an amazing build!
"well theres a stud holding the oil pan" got me to spit out my coffee
Cool car can't wait to see it done 👍👍
Waited an eternity for this build lol
The original Toyota sealant is grey, but the stuff they use when replacing parts is Toyota FiPG sealant (Fill in Place Gasket,) great stuff!
ITBs look so good
It like Christmas! All the new shiny bits
That engine is lookin good!
that's one sexy engine! love some big stacks
Great stuff, Dave. looking forward to seeing this running and driving!!
The S15 just sitting there watching and waiting on it's competition to be finished.

Good point, I really should give it a quick coating to protect it while we assemble the car.
you need the beerbulance for a real hydration-session ;)
That rusty ass brake line banjo fitting though 👌🏿👌🏿🔥
