    Thank you, Gary! It’s a pleasure to learn from you and I endlessly appreciate how generous you are with your knowledge. You challenge me to try things I wouldn’t otherwise consider.

    Great video Gary, I really enjoyed following along with the whole breeding project! I am learning a ton from you and I really appreciate you taking the time.
    The "mushroom porn " music was great too!

    Try crossing the yellow oyster and pink oyster together!!! I think they're the most vibrant coloured so their offspring will be cool to look at.

    I enjoyed the process from spore till cluster. Thanx! Greetings from the Netherlands, Frank.

    Thanks Gary. Can't wait to get to this final step.. I have just started my breeding venture, thanks largely to your tutorials. Have you had any really successful interspecies crosses? Cheers!

    i did read somewhere, to understand the process of morel cultivation, you got to understand the mass cultvation of sclerotia

    • @FreshfromtheFarmFungi
      @FreshfromtheFarmFungi  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lisemarie Caron correct - they naturally make sclerotia but to induce them with greater quantities would definitely help increase yields - check out Tradd Cotter’s book Organic Mushroom Cultivation and Mycoremediation there is a good section about it towards the end 👍🏻🙂

    Hello sir, good yield. I have a doubt ! Is the mushrooms one time harvestable from the substrate ? What about the rest of the mycelium or substrate left over after harvest.

      you can get consecutive flushes they will diminish over time

  • @zacharyswain7034
    @zacharyswain7034 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    How many flushes do you go for? Does it depend on the strain?

    • @FreshfromtheFarmFungi
      @FreshfromtheFarmFungi  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      usually get 2-3 flushes it depends on the health of the mycelium and cleanliness of the fruiting area

    How many black pearl x pink crosses do you have?

    • @FreshfromtheFarmFungi
      @FreshfromtheFarmFungi  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dan Delaney 3 so far, might go back with the stronger isolates or cross them with another species 🙂

    Would it be possible to breed based of phenotype?
    For example take the first pinned mushroom and put it on agar (clone for speed) and take the biggest mushroom (clone for size) then put the mycelium from both on a single plate? To try and get a fast big mushroom? Or would they not pair because it's already dikaryotic?

    • @FreshfromtheFarmFungi
      @FreshfromtheFarmFungi  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It depends on the species but they most likely would not pair with each other and would end up competing on the same plate (there are some exceptions where mycelium could spontaneously separate though) - I don’t like to rule out a possible anomaly but it’s highly unlikely. There may be methods to force such mutations using chemicals - look up snake venom hybridization techniques in mycology - I believe this could be closer to what you’re describing but it is highly disputed.

      @@FreshfromtheFarmFungi hmm interesting so then i suppose the next best bet is to mix sporeprints of both mushrooms and play genetic lottery?

    • @FreshfromtheFarmFungi
      @FreshfromtheFarmFungi  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dodopson3211 yes or isolate individual haploid colonies and introduce them on plates - also, CRISPR-CAS9 is getting better : ) I think that is the future of breeding fungi

    • @dodopson3211
      @dodopson3211 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FreshfromtheFarmFungi it is getting better indeed but for now it still runs the risk of deleting an entire region when only a small part was meant to be deleted, as far as I've read (but that was related to human genetics 😅)

    Do you think you could do a short video for breeding? like a simpler example of what to do. as I have watched all your vids and others.
    But my dyslexia and ADA slows me down. I confuse myself with too much info. but I really do love your content, by far the best out there. keep it up.

    • @FreshfromtheFarmFungi
      @FreshfromtheFarmFungi  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FreshfromtheFarmFungi I would love a simplified explanation too. I'm not dyslexic, but I'm not a scientist either. I have only just started getting into the hobby of mushroom growing. I breed my own plants and animals. Mushroom breeding is something I really like the sound of trying.
