The reason stacking the cups stops condensation is because you're keeping the lids warm. Condensation happens when hot water vapour meets a cold surface so it cools down and turns back to liquid water. If you keep the lids warm, there are no surfaces to condense the water vapour on 10/10 video btw

I hope people understand how much of a service to humanity this video is and like and subscribe to his video and channel. Most other recipes floating around online claim you have to get barley extract and nutritional yeast, and those two ingredients are either a pain to find, or they are not cheap. Also it is a very genius idea to use these plastic salsa cups. You don't need the actual petri dishes. You can puncture those with a hot pointy object too, but these small cups are the easiest method.
Easy peasy 123 PGT. A liquid culture video would be nice, I would love to see your version. I feel it's a privilege for me to be here in the beginning of your channel. I live in Holland and buy the 2100cc kits for 30 bucks, 1+2nd flush already gave me 600g, it's not bad but I'm now only a couple Mason jars and pressure cooker shy of following your videos and trying for myself. Many thanks. 🍄🇳🇱
You could also add ground activated charcoal as dye. Thats normally used for legionella, but I Imagine the visibility of both mycelium and contamination would be great
I’ve been using this method now for the past 2 years and have had zero contam. I got lazy one time and bought pre poured cups, and… 70% were contaminated. This is the best method ever.
Still absolutely in love with the concise and mellow presentation you provide. My success is all thanks to you PGT. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and doing such a good job at it. My bird seed tek attempt is banging out the big 25+ gram fresh weight monster fruits!
Condensation forms where two different temperatures meet. It's why you fog up your car windows with hot air in the winter, but cold air will clear it right up, because it's cold outside. The bottom agar cups lack condensation because the lids are the same temperature as the agar, minus the top one. If you leave your agar cups in your seedling warming box (you know the one I mean!) the condensation will go away.
Thanks, PGT, this was great. I used this recipe to make agar for the first time and it worked like a charm. I isolated my first genetics 🧬 already. Very exciting process, thanks again.
Wish I'd have heard of oven tek before! I've had agar and petri dishes for like 4 years but didn't even bother to try this since I don't have a flow hood. Thanks so much! Now I'll get to know if the old petri dish cultures that have been sitting in my fridge are still alive!
I'd like to thank PGT and a few other channels for the great info, i just went to bulk with 2 shoebox tubs for my first attempt. Hopefully several days from now I'll have what I'm wanting and not a contamination disaster lol. So far they look good, I set these last night and now nearly 24 hours later I see the mycelium moving and still good humidity in my tubs. I have not touched the lids since putting them on.
I read from a chemistry major that agar can be sterilized in the absence of an auto clave/ PC if you boil in a covered pan for 5 mins, then place into glass jars that have been sterilized.
Thanks, you make it seem very easy. I'm surprised how easy cloning mushrooms is. Just now harvesting, and was going to make spore prints. But now I see no need, I had no idea cloning them was so easy. And even make my own agar. Saving me Major time, and a fair amount of money.

These ketchup cups were my go-to for the last decade or so! I love that the internet is normalizing unique teks!
Okay.
Scott Arnold thanks
What contam rate do u get on the ketchup cups (without adding anything like spores, agar wedges, clones, etc)?
kidcharlemagne zero
@@KidCharlema9ne its not possible to have a zero contam rate. Its about 10%
I hope people understand how much of a service to humanity this video is and like and subscribe to his video and channel. Most other recipes floating around online claim you have to get barley extract and nutritional yeast, and those two ingredients are either a pain to find, or they are not cheap. Also it is a very genius idea to use these plastic salsa cups. You don't need the actual petri dishes. You can puncture those with a hot pointy object too, but these small cups are the easiest method.
great screen name 🍄 💖🍄💖
Easy peasy 123 PGT. A liquid culture video would be nice, I would love to see your version.
I feel it's a privilege for me to be here in the beginning of your channel. I live in Holland and buy the 2100cc kits for 30 bucks, 1+2nd flush already gave me 600g, it's not bad but I'm now only a couple Mason jars and pressure cooker shy of following your videos and trying for myself. Many thanks. 🍄🇳🇱
You could also add ground activated charcoal as dye. Thats normally used for legionella, but I Imagine the visibility of both mycelium and contamination would be great
I really appreciate how you link the products so we don't have to ask you a hundred stupid questions 😁
for that I recommend the Discord channel. Community is cool
Just blew my mind with that oven trick. Holy smokes, thanks, friend
I just found your channel a few days ago. Thank you for making the best videos I have seen yet. So clear and to the point.
I learn the most from your channel. Everyone else talks wayyy to much. Youre always to the point! Makes learning easy. Appreciate it!
YOU MAKE THIS EZ TO UNDERSTAND , YOU ARE THE BEST !
I knew nothing about agar before this video and now I feel like I know everything about it excellent video.
Rabbit hole is an understatement, went from a little naughty grow to a small gourmet Buisness, props from the UK pgt ☮️☮️
The rabbit hole is deep! 😄
You agar dishes are best! Most efficient way to have fun with mushrooms!
Condensation forms where two different temperatures meet. It's why you fog up your car windows with hot air in the winter, but cold air will clear it right up, because it's cold outside. The bottom agar cups lack condensation because the lids are the same temperature as the agar, minus the top one. If you leave your agar cups in your seedling warming box (you know the one I mean!) the condensation will go away.
lol
Condensation makes it difficult to see what’s happening in the cups does anyone have any suggestions to help this problem?
Thanks, PGT, this was great. I used this recipe to make agar for the first time and it worked like a charm. I isolated my first genetics 🧬 already. Very exciting process, thanks again.
My man, you are a wonderful teacher! Thanks for sharing 🙏 mush love
Wish I'd have heard of oven tek before! I've had agar and petri dishes for like 4 years but didn't even bother to try this since I don't have a flow hood.
Thanks so much! Now I'll get to know if the old petri dish cultures that have been sitting in my fridge are still alive!
Made my first agar cups with this tek and they work great. Just cloned some beech mushrooms and some blue oysters as well.
Saving me Major time, and a fair amount of money.
thank you GT ! i made my first agar cups exactly like you described and everything came out perfect ! THANKS BROTHER !
Hello! Just poured my first agar following your steps. Your videos are perfect and really well explained. Thank you!
That's amazing. Agar is such an incredibly useful tool! Good luck on your journey, and thank you for the kind words! 😁
Would you say this is light corn syrup or heavy corn syrup. I can't seem to find plain corn syrup
Just made my first batch of agar thanks to you and this video… you make it very easy
Really Enjoying your work PGT !!! and the fact you giving props to other channels while being concise and to the point , makes it so easy to take notes and process info. been having issues lately w/ making my agar . i think because i live in a small apt. and have been cultivating for just over a year now , the the contamsbro must be everywhere in here now , probally going to have to step to a small l/f/h (laminar flow hood) Thanks for ALL you do for us out here !!! Enjoying The Ride ! Peace !!!
Great videos, PGT! Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Wow, very informative and straight to the point. I like how you broke it down slowly, piece by piece. So far your video has been the best one I've seen so far on how to complete this process!
I’m sure it’s already been said hundreds of times but, I’m digging the mushroom oven mitts
Just wanna stop by!!! This is the best agar recipe!!! My mycelium loves it!!! It’s so simple and yet efficient!!! Thank you!!! 🫶🏼
Your videos are the sh*t...thank you for clear, concise information that is informative and to the point....and great video to boot. Would love to meet up with some local Philly hobbyists!
I appreciate that!
Greetings from sunny SW Florida. Love the classes. Born on an island in the Delaware River. Essington. Your accent takes me back. Namaste
Almost at 10k;) crazy how fast your channel is growing, well deserved though! thanks for another well explained video!
Followed this process today. I found that a small canning jar with the rubber part of the lid facing up to allow pressure equalization worked well in place of a media bottle
Amazing video! I really love your style of videos man. Please continue gracing us with your knowledge!
I appreciate your videos so much. Very chill but also right to the point!
Thanks Prof. This channel is going to grow, fasten your seatbelts boys!
Hope so!
Short and sweet. Thanks PGT!
Use a blow dryer too evap condensation on the top plate. Works with my glass petris as well as my presteral plastic ones.
A good idea. Thank you!
@@PhillyGoldenTeacher yes sir. Great videos, I'm seasoned but love your content.
gonna give that a go , at tymes i use a h/dryer to dry my grains if they need it ! Thanks too !!!''''
This is the best video ive seen so far. Quick, easy, informative and well edited. Thanks for the ketchup cup tip
You could fill two extra cups with hot water and put them on top of the stack to have clear lids for all your agar plates
This is like the 6th time I’ve watched this video. It’s so good. Ive been working with agar for 2 or 3 months now and I’ve learned so much from you Philly Golden Teacher. Thank you.
I’m about to pour some more agar into Jelly jars and start some more spores to grow into mycelium.
I’m enjoying this so much. And, Ive learned so much.
Thank you, Sensei. Thanks🙏
Learning is fun! I'm glad the videos were able to help, I wish you the best on your journey! I wouldn't be able to do this without all of you in this amazing community, I thank you as well! 🙏
Thank u so much for your wisdom, very easy to follow and always with safety in mind. Am I able to sterilize without a preassure cooker?
Glad to hear the love for Home Mycology! You two and willy myco are my top instructors. Thank you for all your lessons. You had me at the first time I heard your sunny intro.
I was skeptical at first about the ketchup cup. After trying it out I now prefer them over petri dishes.
You’re a godsend to up and coming home mycologists. Thanks, man. 🔥🙏💯
Wanted another video this week you did not disappoint i have just taken note
🍷 🧢
Thanks for speaking clear and easy. This is my go to source for my starting info.
For the condensation on the top cups you can fill some of the cups with warm water and put them on top 😊
Thanks man. Just did this tonight myself for the first time and everything went smooth! Apriciate the info!
Instead of pressure cooking the agar bottle, could I follow the same instructions if I poured directly into mini mason jars? I have lots of extras of those and would love to cut down on some plastic usage
Yes
Thank you PGT, your have one of the best Mycology channels in TH-cam 😘🤙🏻🍄
You’ve convinced me to try ketchup cups. As always, I am looking forward to your next video. And I need a PGT Pokécow shirt!!
If you ever used the ketchup cups, how did y'all get them to breathe? I'm using them currently and taking any tips I can.
After weeks of research, I bought the pc you recommended! Love you man! Nice seeing you posting, even questions, on reddit. It's cool to see that you're still new to this, and always learning like we are. And awesome to follow you after you've made the mistakes the rest of us new guys are going to make! Contributed on patreon last night because I hope to be able to learn from you for a long time in the future! Thanks again my friend!
What brand of PC is it?
@@TheHiHiker shoot, that was a LONG time ago. The one I bought was the Presto 01755, but looking back I bought a mirro 22qt that I returned because it was a POS. I love the Presto one though, and still use it
An even easier and cheaper agar recipe is just saving your grain water from soaking and boiling your grains. some people use 50/50 grain water and just regular water. but I use 100% grain water and it works great
Great tip! I will have to try that out next time.
@@PhillyGoldenTeacher awesome. look forward to the vid and see how it works out for you
So just grain water and agar? No dextrose to go along with that?
@@obertosiciliano1243 yup. just grain water and agar.
@@dimemega00 What is the ratio you use?
I can’t wait to try this tek! I’ve watched over & over- really appreciate your work, thank you!
3:2:1
3g potato flakes, 2g agar powder, 1g corn syrup + half cup water
Have you tried this method?
@@dressedanddepressed2301 many times. It's perfect.
@@Mama-Sensei do you use liquid cultures or spores for this? I want to try both and eventually learn to clone with it. Also, can the agar alone be steam sterilized instead of pressure cooked?
@@dressedanddepressed2301 I've applied both lq & spores, had much better results with lq. I've done both sterilization processes and didn't see better results with one or the other. I've also made an lq using a fully colonized agar cup. Worked out great.
@@Mama-Sensei amazing info brother thank you. God Bless
Thanks for breaking it down PGT. I'm a noob currently following your broke boi method for my first grow. Agar seemed like a scary, complicated foreign substance until now. I look forward to trying it next time. Cheers man, your channel is the bomb!
Great Video! Very clear and easy to understand for a lot! By the way I saw in you other video that you had APEs and I assume you got them through a swab, I was wondering on how your methods are for inoculating agar? Ive had a few grows up my sleeve but theyve always come from prints. I would also suggest a grow along/ grow log on APEs because i know they tend to be more tedious compared to other cubes. Anyway love the work and mush love!
Seriously this is soooo incredibly helpful. You’re going straight to heaven
That was genius. Really clever way to accomplish something so challenging.
just finished my second flush of blue oysters using your videos. gonna clean up the genetics now for some better fruits using this blue agar method lol. you're the best man ty
Hyped to finally get to this point
Thanks PGT! I went the bought agar mixture route but your video was invaluable for the preparation. Using my prepared agar cups for the first time tomorrow. Thanks to your channel I think I will have success in my new hobby. ❤
Thanks for sharing your knowledge man!
Do these need to be wrapped in parafilm or anything or are they good left as they are?
My favorite mycology channel around!
