  • Very easy to do, I used a regular 12 volt car battery to do this on a 1998 bmw e36 m3 convertible
Test the convertible motors to see if they work using the simple steps mentioned in the video for your Bmw e36

Great video thanks for sharing this, I'd really like to see more videos on your E36 M3 my E36 convertible is 3 years in progress at the moment garaged and going back together this year, here in the UK though we suffer with corrosion issues mainly jacking points, rear trailing arm pockets and wheel arches mine has all 3 so plenty of new metal and welding, so any extra information on these cars is always welcomed, and the Viper video was really interesting too, that's thinking outside the box!

Thank you bro, I’ll try to make more videos as I work on the car more, for now I put on a hardtop for the wintertime and might do more work to it as it hits the summer

Very good video. I will test my motors. I tested the fuses after seeing other videos, but yours is the only one that discloses the convertible module. My problem is that the convertible top switch does nothing when pressed.

Mine was doing the same thing, turned out that I needed a new module because all of my motors worked fine, it was only the module which was dead, I ordered multiple because one of the ones I ordered also didn’t work even though it said it was working, I hope this fixes your issue, if any questions feel free to leave a comment

There is a fuze also located in the trunk near the battery make sure the one there is good, if you put a new fuze and it burns out when you click the button for the top then you might have a short circuit going on in the wires, I had a short circuit in the soft top area leading to the motor overhead I found it by tracing down the wires and found some that were a little ripped up and touching each other, make sure also when you re-engage the motors you try the proper reset procedure for the top, there are many videos for this all over TH-cam

First check the fuse in the trunk by the battery if it’s bad, switch it, after that try to do the reset method for the top, there are a bunch of videos put out for that, if you don’t get any feedback, try getting a new module, I had to buy 2 used modules because the first one I got was not good and the second was good and it worked after that
