after powergaming in ck3 for many hundreds of hours, i have come around recently and started to play more intricately - roleplay centered - as you have demonstrated in this video. i started in 867, and upon the death of my first ruler, allowed my 2 acquired kingdoms to be split between my two sons, despite having the renown (and the desire + knowhow) to simply disinherit the second son and consolidate more for my next player character. i have only just breached year 900 and i have already had more fun during this playthrough than any other before it. i am a strong believer that there is no "best" way to play ck3, however, slow, intentional roleplay seems to be the most FUN and dynamic way to play. i look forward to watching the rest of this series! thanks for sharing it with us!
Thanks a lot! Glad you also enjoy play this way! I think all PDX game play better when you restrict yourself to some sort of roleplay "framework", but CK3 is especially well suited to this as it's too easy to powerplay through it otherwise. Hopefully more will come in the future!
I would have placed your Player Heir as your spymaster. The position of the spymaster gives the holder a 10% increase in their educational lifetime experience. This result to gives you a start in the next life.
Thanks for the tip, I didn't actually know that! At the time, I thought it was good roleplay to put your heir in charge of the military given we ourselves were not a great commander, but I think there was scope to roleplay having our son as spymaster given his education.
Yeah, I was actually just going to play county of Napoli just because I visited the city recently, but then I saw that it's a pretty unique start being a lonely orthodox Greek colony in a post-Roman catholic Italy, which opens up a lot of roleplay opportunities I think and makes it a good challenge.
@@immersioneer what I like about it is that it's possible to nab the Kingdom of Sicily and rejoin the Byzantines before pushing on Rome. IIRC, that was the goal before the Normans arrived.
There are Lombards near you, it's been a while, but IIRC they get bonuses from heavy infantry. You could try to incorporate them into your culture to really make some strong heavy infantrymen. I think they get unique men at arms too
@immersioneer hybridization of the culture. I looked online and I don't see any man at arms, but it might have been a cultural tech, I'll have to load up CK to double check when I can. Might be thinking of ck2
Yeah, I will do. Thing is CK3 is SUCH a big commitment... it's easily 200 1-hour episodes at my "immersive" pace. And if I don't record every day, then the next big patch or expansion comes out and breaks the save, so I can't delay posting videos. I'd love to get back into it though and hopefully will soon.
I still trying to wrap my head around vanilla, haha. I also try to not have any predetermined path in mind, but instead use the background / traits of the main character to determine what he might have done in given circumstances.
@@immersioneerit is really a great mod for realistic immersive roleplays, since the world is evolving and you doesn't feel like you are in a fake world.

I like the Spartenos dynasty. It's both a blessed and a cursed start. Could go either way with all of the diverse surroundings

@@johnjaeger2968that sounds so fun honestly, I’m gonna try that in my next play through
Love your channel! You play a lot of my favorite games and I always support CK3 roleplays.
Thanks a lot! I've been out for a few months, but hopefully we can somehow salvage House Spartenos... :( I'll need to have a look.
Just found this, awesome video. Love slow roleplay ck3. Nice
Thanks for the kind words! Appreciate it! More PDX playthroughs coming this autumn for sure!
love the role play aspect. Just taking everything in, subscribed.
Thanks a lot! Really appreciate it! Hopefully only gets better from here!
@@immersioneer did you buy the Persia dlc? It’s fun lol

What do you mean by "incorporate them into your culture"?

I’d immediately chickened out and joined the ERE xD
Haha! I'm still not sure whether we will join up or not. The Emperor is doing his best to offend us in later episodes...
The heavy infantry legions will see us through though... as they have for centuries (even millena) before... :)
Try a new immersive playthrough when 2024 expansion drops

Suggestion play with historical invasions mod, slowly unite Sicily. Later bail out fellow orthodox greeks from seljuks and Ottomans
