I can see where are you coming from with the companions in RPG's. I myself on the opposite side of the spectrum, I love companions, their personalities and their quests, awkward romances and all, my own story and head canon relies heavily on them :-) Lae'zel is an absolutely amazing character, my personal favourite in this game and, frankly, in almost any other game. Character arc and romance is top notch.
I’m really weird this way - I’ve hated them ever since I was a child lol. My favourite CRPG was always Icewind Dale, because you got to build the whole party straight away and set off as a little “gang”. I find this more believable and immersive.
WOW! was not expecting this , but couldn't be more pleased :). I love roleplay of the gith as they are prominent in the storyline and its hard find their RP on yt. I am following your playthrough with Michael , happy to know I have another story to look forward to :). Waiting to see how this unfolds!
Awesome. I'll be posting this Tue, Thur, Sat and maybe even Sunday. Fingers crossed, we make it through the first map in 10-15 episodes and then we are on to blind territory in the Mountain Pass - I've never been there!
I understand your view on companions. I chose to play as a Githyanki in my first playthrough. They are my favourite race. I knew nothing of DnD when starting but BG3 reminded me of Warhammer 40K a little. The Githyanki seemed a little like my fave WH40K race the Craftworld Eldar. It was only after doing research more recently that I discovered that both WH40K and classic DnD had their origins in the White dwarf (I think) magazines that stemmed from Nottingham. And to add to that Lae'zel resonates so much with me. An alien dropped into a world that she barely understands, with customs that she does not always understand. It is that (neurodivergent) aspect that then leads to normals considering us to be rude and uncouth. The Craftworld Eldar of WH40K are also slow to reproduce, never explored or explained why. But highly skilled in fighting, fast, but not super resilient.
Awesome! I can't believe I didn't make the Eldar connection! I kept thinking that they are like space elf jedi, but I think you are spot on - they are very much like Eldar from the WH40K!
This is the way... I played my first bg3 playthrough completely blind, and completely immersed in the role of my character. Every decision I made was in character and I ignored my judgement even when I thought there was an easier option if it didn't fit my character. I do like the companions though, but on that first playthrough I only really interacted with wyll and shadowheart, making the latter my romance, but I really enjoyed that part as well, as every interaction provided dialogue options that I really felt fit my character, either for good or bad. To this day, still the playthrough I enjoyed the most, it felt like that day in 2011 when I got introduced to open world rpgs for the first time, once again.
Awesome! Glad to see there are other likeminded Immersioneers around! Feel like everyone is focused on “optimal builds” and running through the game as quickly and as “efficiently” as possible, even though that takes out a lot of the fun out of it…
20:25 githyanki does in fact mean "children of gith" while githzerai more accurately translates to "those who spurn gith". Cool idea for a playthrough, I'm interested to see where it goes!
Aaahh, thanks for clarifying that. I thought Githyanki made sense at first, with yanki meaning friends, but then that would imply the other faction should be Zeryanki :) Now it makes sense!
4:39 [Gith being unpopular] the one-year anniversary stats released by Larian stated Githyanki enjoy rank #8 out of 11 races. only the smaller races Dwarf, Gnome and Halfling are being played less often - your rogues belong to the smallest minority in Faerun it seems.
Thanks! I was wondering if they released any more stats, but I just found that (very spoilery, but I avoided all but one paragrapg) post and it’s good to know what people haven’t tried / seen before for future playthroughs, so thanks for that!
Awesome! Hope you enjoy the series and great if it inspires / motivates you to do something similar! I have an idea about every companion, a few for each really, so there is a lot you can do with this duo format. Let you imagination run wild!
I enjoyed this very much! I think I might do this myself for my next playthrough. I have a hard time staying "in character" and not making the "good" decisions that I myself would make, but maybe this would help me go a different route and stick to it this next playthrough!
Just starting this series. Cant wait to see the story play out! Also, a little tidbit on mage hand. It can also be used to throw alchemist fire/grenade weapons. Makes it very interesting, indeed.
Great to have you on board! Hope you enjoy it! Yeah, I know it can do that, although I’ve never actually used it that way. Doesn’t it need the items to be lying on the ground already? I find that a bit immersion-breaking. If it could take items from my inventory, I think that would have been better…
Wow, I've had this idea for about 10 months now, and because I somehow lost the save games for my first playthrough where I was in act3 (I've got kids, a fulltime job, and getting my bachelor's, so my playthroughs are slow). So yesterday I decided to start a new play through as a gith cleric of Vlaakith. Full RP, me and my kin being racist against everyone else, trying to find a cure and dealing with our doubt about Vlaakith.😊 And today I find your videos.
Awesome! Vlaakith war priest was one of the options, but I left it for a potential 3-man party some time in the future. I’m really enjoying the Githyanki, even though I absolutely hated them when I first got BG3!
Now that i have catched up the 76 episodes, that are out right now, im ready to start here^^ i was curious about it, since you told us. Btw you sound sooo much better here, then on michaels channel! maybe its because of the steam discord settings?
You mean between series? Or were you watching these videos on Michael’s channel? I might have adjusted the settings between the series, but they should be the same now…
Two Eldritch Knights party will be almost unkillable :-)) Making Lae'zel a Battlemaster as the game seems to suggest will make your party even more powerful 😁
Really? It’s been pretty close several times so far as I recorded episodes of this… I’m really enjoying melee gameplay, so different and so refreshing after having played predominantly ranged characters!
@@immersioneer First levels are the most dangerous, the more levels you get, the easier game becomes, even though the enemies become harder. The best class for the first 4 levels is rogue, second best are fighter/barbarian/ranger :-)
Yeah, I feel like melee start off weaker than ranger, but get stronger consistently, whereas ranged characters fall of a bit? Not sure though. Most I've ever been is level 6...
whoah, you almost gave me an anxiety attack. went back checking whether your duo with _Gaming For Immersion_ somehow met an untimely end (since I can't follow you into yet unknown game territory) - but the both of you seemed fine at the end of ep 50. then I remembered you lost the _Tourma of Kerch_ but hopefully only technical problems remain which can be solved somehow. your duo Gith set-up is similar to my own. recently started a Githyanki wizard for a 'solo' play (not Honour Mode yet but Tactician) as my first character with a _Dark Urge_ background. however, I allowed for him to team up with Lae'zel when opportune or necessary. for all other parts, he is on his own. good luck for your adventure. 🤞
I love your roleplaying ethos, and I seek to do more playthroughs along similar lines myself. On this note, would you ever be willing to share somewhere your ideas for immersive duo playthroughs with the other companions? (I saw you mention somewhere that you had some) I'd quite like to try them out myself. I would do one with Lae'zel but I have already completed 2 gith-centric playthroughs with her as my love interest 😅
Thanks! Glad you are enjoying it! I do have a quite a few of these roleplay playthroughs in mind and I did think about making a video as a guide to immersive playthroughs, but then I thought I'd like to keep the surprise for future playthroughs :P I spent quite a few hours figuring out some hopefully unique and interesting duos with every companion, so there will be more of these playthroughs in the future! Sub and stay tuned :P
If you're not afraid of dated games, definitely play Planescape: Torment, one of the best story driven RPG's ever. Also you'll learn that D&D Jedi are Githzerai, Githyanki are more akin to Sith :-))
Yeah, I never got into Planescape when I was a kid. I find it hard to get back into those due to outdated graphics these days, to be honest. Yeah, Githzerai are definitely on the agenda, now that I know about them :) They will be in a playthrough in the future...
I don't know if you already answered this in the video, I'm still at the beginning Have you ever done Lae'zel's romance, or is it "blind" gameplay in that sense? Edit: 3:45 Oh ok lol. Im looking forward to your journey. Bae'zel has the most growth out all the companions as well as the best romance in the game in my opinion. Give her time.
No, it’s a “blind” relationship in that sense, haha, I only had her as a companion a couple of times when the game came out, but never focused on her and never romanced her. Yup, looking forward to it. I’m hoping the Githyanki stay involved throughout the plot, although I don’t know if that’s the case… there has to be a creche in / over the Mountain Pass, I would assume…
@@immersioneer what does your Gith think about tadpoles and using them for power? your rogue was totally against it, Lae'zel will initially refuse to use illithid powers, but can be convinced to use them. maybe this time your character can see some benefits, especially as an Eldritch Knight. there is a very enticing version of Eldritch Knight (vanilla game only) using _Absorb Intellect_ up to the point of their enemies dying from the condition _Atrophied_ - very devastating. your Gith would be so pleased!
I'm utterly thrilled you are starting this playthrough. I have greatly enjoyed your rogue duo and I eagerly await the chaos that might ensue without the influence of your more reticient partner. La'zel has a very compelling character arc, she is a great choice. However, I must repectively disagree with you on one point. It is obvious that Shadowheart is the poster girl for BG3, not La'zel :). Good luck. Cheers
Awesome! Glad to have you on board! To be honest, I didn't follow BG3 in development at all (despite buying in in early access as soon as it was released there), but it always seemed to me like Lae'zel was on a lot of the artwork and plus she is in the intro cinematic - that's why I think of her as the "poster girl". I do know Shadowheart plays a big role in the story (if I ever let her live past the first map =/), but I don't know what role exactly. I really kind of hate Shadowheart as a character though - she is the only I'm having trouble thinking up a duo playthrough with... =/
@@immersioneer I understand your reasoning. The brilliance of this game is that every character is well written and the voice acting is superb. Thus, all the companion characters are a "good" choice.
