The most amazing re-birth of a band ever in this video. They needed so much guts and artistic faith to kill the 80s U2, and to create the 90s U2. A brilliant move that gambled on everything - and was a great success.
Precisely. That opening riff of The Fly signalled the beginning of the bands most exciting period, the 90's. I truly wish they would experiment like this again.
@@rodtaylor5476 they are full on nostalgia band right now. They've cemented their status in the rock pantheon as one of the legends. And that is, IMO, okay.
The Edge has this ability to make a guitar wail with a melody. Its not just playing it. Its getting the resonance out of it, finding sounds in there that aren’t just noise. He is a master at making a guitar sing.
I totally agree! One of the best examples of Edge’s guitar work, is “Until the end of the world”: while Bono sings his verse, the Edge “sings” his guitar line, two music melodies flow together, with no contrast, in an incredible mix. You can easily listen to each single part, or both together, at the same time. They always work as a great team. One of the greatest bands in history.
That is NOT Bono Hewson I should know I am married to him and I state quite catagorically that it is a look-alike lip Synching and using a backing track U2 as a band are thinking of legal action for identity theft
Who’s underrating lol it was the coolest turn to captivate the most people. They ripped off the stone roses of the time for it I reckon, who in turn probably ripped this off without nearly as much commercial success
This record changed my life when I was an insicure, scared and angry young teen. Its atmospheres, music, words, attitude and even look spoke to the inner part of myself. It literally describes my emotions and my colors and ignited The spark, giving me the inspiration to embrace the dream of music in my life. I just cannot thank U2 enough. Bless you!
The absolute BALLS to come out of the Joshua Tree/Rattle & Hum Era with this is just amazing! They just absolutely killed it and it almost took them breaking up in Berlin to build this masterpiece up and blow everything away!
A great metamorphosis and never repeated. Bono, personifying the band, went from intensely hippie to a cocky mix of Jim Morrison, Elvis and a girls punisher in a industrial discotheque. Brilliantly creative. Eternally awesome.
One of the best songs of a great album. This is modern rock and roll, powerful and emotional and the lyrics are also very nice. Still listening to "The Fly", at 47 years old, like when I was 18... So many memories and feelings...
I was 11 years old when this video came out, and I became obsessed with this band immediately. Five years later I ask a friend to tattoo me the name of the band, and after attending to 6 U2 concerts , I only can say: Thank you for exist, you changed my life. ❤️U2

Achtung Baby was one of my first CD's for my new (then) discman. Played the crap out of it. So many die hard U2 fans hated the CD and wished for more Joshua Tree. But this album for me was their opus. It captures everything.
I remember getting into U2 in a big way - about late 1988 when I was 11. Spent the best part of 3 years buying all their albums and things, wondering when anything new would come out. I remember the Night and Day video (1990) gave us a hint about what was to come next - but it felt like an eternity and I actually thought they were finished. Then, one day in 1991 I turn on the TV, about half way through this video and I'm like, "it's them!!!!" They're back! And it's very different, but still them! Amazing stuff and it still hits me in the core.
This is so bloody amazing everytime. Band in its absolut peak. So different than Joshua tree era. Still so fresh. I hoped that U2 make more this kind of songs, but Achtung baby is the best you can get.
Flipping classic. Just a classic band, classic song, and my all time favorite album. Thank You, U2, thank you for the years of entertainment. Truly every life changing event for this 40+ year old dude, some U2 song was playing in the background. Pfft, U2 is the soundtrack to my life.
absolute brilliance. From opening chord and word to the last guitar note as it drones out. Lyrically so robust. Def one of my top 5 U2 songs of all time.
U2 not only drifted towards Pop then, but wrote an excellent song. Brilliant Opener for every damn party. Like gathering before sunset and starting partying to excess. Also good: Discotheque and Loved.
I saw the band play this live in 1992 at RFK Stadium August 15 & 16. Fantastic show!!! Still one of the best shows in all my years. I love this song and the Edge's guitar work was superb. They really clicked during those shows, especially the 2nd night.
