Just having the notion of “pressure” was such an eye-opener for me. He makes it so simple to understand, and easy to see/feel/hear when you’ve done it correctly or not. Great stuff.
Hey Danny how's it going, Keith from the other side of the pond in New Jersey checking in. Wanted to pay you a compliment. At first I thought this video was not a good idea for you since you are a golf professional and a teacher of others and I didn't think that it would be a good look since everybody tries to put their best foot forward when giving TH-cam instruction. I could not have been more wrong in my initial assessment. After watching the video I think it was a great collaboration and as mentioned by others a sign of true humility on your part and I believe it in no way diminishes or tarnishes your image, on the contrary it enhances it! I went out in the backyard after watching this video and employed this chipping strategy and I was amazed at the instant results! I hope you do more videos with Pete Cowen and I am now subscribed to your Channel! Keep up the great work and God bless!

Then at address, he gave himself no time. As if he was just messing about. He had a great touch and feel with not tension or swing thoughts. Good video Danny. 👏👏👏

Danny!!! This video is incredible! Thank you very much for posting your lesson. I watched it the morning it was released and went to the short game area of my home course for 90 minutes that afternoon. I went again for an hour a couple of days later. This works like a charm! A couple of guys I golf with who are 6 and 9 handicappers told me my short game has improved quite a bit. This was after only 2.5 hours of working on what Mr. Cowen was teaching you. Cliff Lawson, one of John Jacobs teachers, taught me this concept 40 years ago. I can still hear him telling me to keep turning on the thru swing. That will make me standup/rise up naturally: same thing Cowan is teaching you.
Thanks for sharing Danny. I love his “messing around” approach. Takes the thought process to that of a child - not complicated, just do! His explanation of how to feel the bounce and keeping the grooves clean are priceless.

There is so much to appreciate from this video Danny, first off, thank you for sharing your own learning. the biggest takeaway for me was the repetition after you got that follow through right - over and over, building the muscle memory no doubt?
Absolutely, I think it also shows how important it is to have a camera on you when you are on your own so you can track your movement. I didn’t feel it at frost but with repetition I began to get it

Such a great video on the short game and so rare to get these type of insights from Pete Cowen. Love the 'live lesson' format - thanks for really putting yourself out there Danny to do that, rather than just a prepackaged final outcome. Absolute gold mine Danny. I always knew about "using the bounce" but never really understood HOW to ACTUALLY use the bounce. I just did 20/30 chips and can already see a lot more consistency/can tell why one is good vs not so good! 🤯. I love the "just messing about" mindset and letting the club force work. Great content once again!
Yeah its almost like an I don't care mindset. Stop trying to be perfect. Let the body relax similar to a good putting stroke. O my caveat is don't stall and let the the left wrist breakdown before impact!
This really speaks to the game of golf, watching an instructor take lessons. We can always learn. There’s a reason we all aren’t fighting for Tigers tour wins record, teacher or otherwise!
Two of the best golf TH-cam videos I’ve seen this year have been this one and the live lesson Pete did on James Robinsons channel. Fascinating to listen to Pete talk about the golf swing
Seems like reverse-Danny helping his dad in previous videos. Eager to learn, too many thoughts and nervous but excited to get better.Appears that even accomplished golfers have concepts and motion patterns that are not so easy to abandon. Also,Wonder if Pete believes pressure on front foot is accomplished by arms down pressure and body motion vs setting up more on front side. getting the club face in position to make required strike - great conceptS- informative to see in action.
Quality Danny.....love it when you know you haven't quite hit it right and go to grab the next ball to have another go and Pete's already got one ready for you....nothing like the anxious golfer!! 😓 Thanks for the vid and your relentless efforts to coach the golfing world. Top Man Danny 👏🏻
Very good to see the difficulties one has in comprehending and putting into action the input from a teacher who knows well and is a natural. I appreciate your enthousiasm and professional way of bringing this to your own students. You are a true master my friend!
The video shows all the magic of golf, one pretty good YT golf coach having much humility in a short game tuition from a living legend. Great vid, Danny. Many thanks to Pete as well, yet another brilliant golf lesson.
Kudos Danny for sharing this with us! I have learnt so much from you over the years. Your genuine desire to help all levels of amateur golfer improve is unparalleled! Simply the best! 🥇😇
Brilliant lesson. I have been watching your channel for over a year now. Your driver lessons and iron lessons improved my game by 5 shots minimum. To be honest your chipping lessons didn't help at all until this one, this is gold, solid legs and through the ball - perfect chips now a huge difference in ball flight and spin. 10 out of 10 thank you
Hi Danny, thanks for sharing that great session with Pete and lovely to see two Yorkshire lads show us there's always more to learn in this great game. Will definitely try to do more "faffing about" on my next round!!! More like this would be brilliant. Best wishes.
I’m lucky enough to go to Petes driving range. He’s such a nice guy. Often gives free advice when walking up and down the Bays. Great video. Thank you Mr Cowen and Danny Maude.
@@DanielMaude He spends hours and hours on his own working on swing mechanics, so he can improve other people’s game. It’s the bits people never see. He puts as much time in as his players do. Really enjoyed you struggling like we all do to learn and feel something new. Made it feel like we’re not alone. Thanks Danny👍🏻
Good on you Danny for putting yourself through this. Proof that we can and should seek constant improvements. Also, not just here, I love the way Pete always looks semi bored and wishing he was somewhere else. Great vid. More practice today!
Danny, That was an absolute showcase for chipping. I loved his wording and his flow of the club down and threw the shot.....Thanks for allowing us to have a free professional chipping session.
Spectacular! I have so much difficulty with my balance, my “legs all over the place,” 😏 that pressing down with my thighs alone was so helpful. Thanks Danny & Pete!
Brilliant! So good to see someone of your skill level acknowledging that you can always learn something to improve your game. This is something we should all acknowledge. I have played this wonderful game for 64 years and, even in my 20s when playing my best golf, I never hesitated to take a lesson when there was a problem I was unable to correct on my own. Also, because I never played winter golf (even though I could have in Scotland where I was born), I always started each season with a lesson to keep me on the right path. Short game sometimes kills my scores and I went out to practice after watching the video (twice) and I am already seeing improvements. If I ever make it back to the UK you can count on seeing me for an in person lesson or two.
That’s a great lesson Danny and inspiring to see you as a professional coach receiving additional instruction yourself. Better for your game and better for us that follow you for our benefit. Just goes to show that an occasional lesson for anyone doesn’t go astray. 👍🏻🇦🇺
Pete Cowan is a Master, he has helped my golf swing tremendously by watching his tutorials over the years explaining the forces and mechanics to hit better golf shots.
My respect for you has elevated many folds. I am new to golf, its just been 3 months, and all we discuss about is what Danny would want us to do now? That said, Your ethics around & your commitment and humility towards the game is simply exemplary. More power to you, to the mighty Sir Cowen! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
this is incredible to watch. inspiring to see someone so far along in their golf journey like yourself having similar struggles as amateur hour guys like myself trying to lock in on feels. Some of the absolute best golf content Danny thanks for doing it
With this being said this guy is terrifying. He scares everyone. He did another video with another TH-cam star, and that guy has lots of personality and he also became a kid in the principals office lol.
Man this is great. You're one of us, Danny! It's hard to break habits and form new ones. Appreciate your humility to show this lesson. This also shows how there are many components involved in hitting this kind of shot.
Amazingly fantastic teaching video. I've seen Pete give a few lessons to golf pros but this is the best of them. Danny, I've watched countless videos from you - love the simple way you approach the golf swing - but this was like watching the master and newbie. Not in a bad way, but it shows how we all have things to learn and really just shows how unbelievably perceptive Pete is at seeing every part of a golf swing in real time. Loved it and keep up the great work!
It's so interesting watching a good golf coach bring given a golf lesson from an even better golf coach. Have learnt plenty from this vid. More like this please Danny 🙏 👍🏻
Hi Danny Thanks for putting this video up. I came to this video from watching some of your other chipping videos. It actually makes lot of sense now watching you with Pete in your lesson with him. I could see you were trying hard in your lesson which something I also do when being coached. This actually makes your other chipping lessons make so much sense now. Many thanks again Danny for sharing this
he's such a laid back guy but it was obvious you felt the pressure trying to do the drill correctly. It was pleasing to see someone with your ability feeling how an amateur feels when getting a lesson and struggling to implement the change
Many thanks to Pete for all of his dedication & for sharing his immense knowledge. This knowledge definitely adds a new excitement to the game. Scrambling for a par or chipping in for a birdie or eagle should be a big part of playing golf. Many thanks!! I have already chipped in for a birdie using this technique!
Great video! Bravo for putting yourself out there and I can attest, old habits are hard to break. Love when Peter says, ‘messing about’, totally changed my game! Less thinking, enables the natural mechanics to take over.
That was some lesson. Glad to see Danny that you took a few goes to get the right action. I will sleep better tonight knowing I am not a dumb as I thought. 😀
I had great success initially with your “opening and closing a jar lid” swing thought, but had to abandon it because I kept skulling the ball across the green. After watching this video, I think it was because I was backing up instead of rotating and getting out of the way. Thanks for sharing!
It's unbelievable how good your pitching gets by mastering this movement. The strike is so much crisper, and yes, you can tell when you've got it by the sound that is made. 2 thumbs up on this video.😊😊
Fun fact: even psychologists talk to other psychologists when the pressure of the job gets to them. I appreciate this video for the information and your humility.
So I already benefited from your original pitching/chipping video, and this video takes it to another level. The idea of keeping legs pressed down initially, keeping butt of club closer on backswing, pushing the arm down and countering by pushing off with left leg to slide toe of club through (instead of hitting with the club face at ball) is awesome. I find it seems “easier to make better strikes” and more consistently too. My issue is falling back too but working on it and can’t wait to get better so I can take these principles to my full swing!
This has changed my approach to these shots and I had a bit of coaching in a group session on holiday where I was advised to loosen my grip too - the result is that I am still only using loft when I have to but now do it without fear and getting better contact and results, big thanks to Pete and yourself
I’ve said this before but I have always chipped and pitched imagining hitting the ball with my trail knee. Works for me. Great to see two masters working together
Thank you for sharing this video Danny. You are my favorite golf coach. And your sharing of the session where you were coached is amazing. Lots of respect.
Absolutely loved this instruction from Peter Cowan, well done for getting him on your channel. I have had one round trying to implement his technique and the connection between ball, club and ground is great. Question, can you apply this technique to other irons?
@@nikkiharrison7967 feel like you're pushing the clubhead into the ground under the ball. It creates the squeeze of the ball against the turf. I try to just "collect" the ball with the clubhead. Far too many people hit at the ball. That's what I think he was conveying.

I just did 20/30 chips and can already see a lot more consistency/can tell why one is good vs not so good! 🤯. I love the "just messing about" mindset and letting the club force work. Great content once again!
glad you enjoyed it Pascal
Yeah its almost like an I don't care mindset. Stop trying to be perfect. Let the body relax similar to a good putting stroke. O my caveat is don't stall and let the the left wrist breakdown before impact!
@@nicholasdemetriades9154 absolutely m, this is what Pete means by keep the pressure on the arc
You have all my admiration…….my coach taking a lesson, your humility is touching me…..go ehead never lost the spirit👍👍👍
Thanks so much Michael
This really speaks to the game of golf, watching an instructor take lessons. We can always learn. There’s a reason we all aren’t fighting for Tigers tour wins record, teacher or otherwise!
Thanks so much for the support Travis
Two of the best golf TH-cam videos I’ve seen this year have been this one and the live lesson Pete did on James Robinsons channel. Fascinating to listen to Pete talk about the golf swing
It really is Richard
Being subscribed to your lessons has improved not only my golf but my desire to get even better. Thank you.
That’s awesome Steve
Your so humble Danny, even as good as you are at golf your willing to learn something new to improve and selflessly willing to help us… Bravo Sir🙏
I’ve watched this so many times…Pete was simple however an excellent teacher. Danny was humble and honest
Thanks for the support Mary
Quality Danny.....love it when you know you haven't quite hit it right and go to grab the next ball to have another go and Pete's already got one ready for you....nothing like the anxious golfer!! 😓 Thanks for the vid and your relentless efforts to coach the golfing world. Top Man Danny 👏🏻
Thanks so much Jon
Thanks!
That’s really kind Shawn
Very good to see the difficulties one has in comprehending and putting into action the input from a teacher who knows well and is a natural. I appreciate your enthousiasm and professional way of bringing this to your own students. You are a true master my friend!
Thanks so much Rick, will share more of the secrets when I see you next
The video shows all the magic of golf, one pretty good YT golf coach having much humility in a short game tuition from a living legend. Great vid, Danny. Many thanks to Pete as well, yet another brilliant golf lesson.
Thanks for the support
These two lessons of yours are all I need for at least a year. “Right arm secrets” and “Left me speechless”
Amazing stuff man
Kudos Danny for sharing this with us! I have learnt so much from you over the years. Your genuine desire to help all levels of amateur golfer improve is unparalleled! Simply the best! 🥇😇
Thanks so much for the support Anne
Brilliant lesson. I have been watching your channel for over a year now. Your driver lessons and iron lessons improved my game by 5 shots minimum. To be honest your chipping lessons didn't help at all until this one, this is gold, solid legs and through the ball - perfect chips now a huge difference in ball flight and spin. 10 out of 10 thank you
That’s awesome David
Petes a legend, had a lesson with him when he was head pro at Lindrick GC. He was an absolute flusher, he hit it so good.
He can play every shot
Really brilliant. As a student, you’re a great teacher. His insight on these subtleties is astonishing. Thank you very much.
This is going on repeat... Thank you so much gentlemen..you can here the joy in Peters voice as Danny improves.
He was a an absolute gent
Hi Danny, thanks for sharing that great session with Pete and lovely to see two Yorkshire lads show us there's always more to learn in this great game. Will definitely try to do more "faffing about" on my next round!!! More like this would be brilliant. Best wishes.
Thanks so much Geoff, felt very privileged
I’m lucky enough to go to Petes driving range. He’s such a nice guy. Often gives free advice when walking up and down the Bays. Great video. Thank you Mr Cowen and Danny Maude.
Thanks Keith and he’s great 😁
@@DanielMaude He spends hours and hours on his own working on swing mechanics, so he can improve other people’s game. It’s the bits people never see. He puts as much time in as his players do. Really enjoyed you struggling like we all do to learn and feel something new. Made it feel like we’re not alone. Thanks Danny👍🏻
The timing of this video is perfect, I had a short game lesson yesterday, great to to see “the master” at work, and you of course👍
Glad you enjoyed it Martin
❤❤❤ took the imagery of this lesson to the practice green last evening. "I'm just messing about; push the pressure down and turn."
Pure magic. 😎👍
It’s awesome isn’t it
@@DanielMaude For someone who has struggled with this dimension of the game, it literally feels like I'm cheating!
Good on you Danny for putting yourself through this. Proof that we can and should seek constant improvements. Also, not just here, I love the way Pete always looks semi bored and wishing he was somewhere else. Great vid. More practice today!
Funny, always looking for ways to get better
Danny, That was an absolute showcase for chipping. I loved his wording and his flow of the club down and threw the shot.....Thanks for allowing us to have a free professional chipping session.
If there's such a thing as a golfing God you've just had a lesson off one. Great to see that the teacher can never stop learning respect cheers
Always learning Dave, have an awesome weekend
When he holds your head the sound on those chips is so much better 👌I need to get practicing too, I may suffer from backing away too.
It really shows doesn't it
Spectacular! I have so much difficulty with my balance, my “legs all over the place,” 😏 that pressing down with my thighs alone was so helpful. Thanks Danny & Pete!
Pleasure Steve, all the best
Thanks Tom appreciate the support and feedback 😁
That’s a great lesson Danny and inspiring to see you as a professional coach receiving additional instruction yourself. Better for your game and better for us that follow you for our benefit. Just goes to show that an occasional lesson for anyone doesn’t go astray. 👍🏻🇦🇺
Thank you Grant, we are always learning 😁
Pete Cowan is a Master, he has helped my golf swing tremendously by watching his tutorials over the years explaining the forces and mechanics to hit better golf shots.
Definitely Richy 👍
Danny, it takes a lot for someone to share the vulnerable learning process. I appreciate the video. Great content.
Thanks Ryan 😁
My respect for you has elevated many folds. I am new to golf, its just been 3 months, and all we discuss about is what Danny would want us to do now?
That said, Your ethics around & your commitment and humility towards the game is simply exemplary. More power to you, to the mighty Sir Cowen! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Really appreciate the support Mono
We really appreciate you , Danny! Thanks!
Terrific video, the explanation he gave as to how the club should go and body activity was so easy to understand. Thanks Danny, really enjoyed it.
Glad you enjoyed it Les
Thank you Danny. I would never have seen Pete teach this anywhere else. Very generous of you .
Pleasure Randy, hope it helps your short game
A real gem of a pitch lesson .
this is incredible to watch. inspiring to see someone so far along in their golf journey like yourself having similar struggles as amateur hour guys like myself trying to lock in on feels. Some of the absolute best golf content Danny thanks for doing it
I love learning
@@DanielMaude a wise man understands that learning never ends :)
With this being said this guy is terrifying. He scares everyone. He did another video with another TH-cam star, and that guy has lots of personality and he also became a kid in the principals office lol.
@@davidkramer194 absolutely, still feel I have lots to learn
Man this is great. You're one of us, Danny! It's hard to break habits and form new ones. Appreciate your humility to show this lesson. This also shows how there are many components involved in hitting this kind of shot.
@mikek3638 thank you so much and thanks for watching. 🙏🏻
These videos with Peter are more useful than anything I've ever seen. Anything with Peter with driver?
Looking to get together with Pete soon
Amazingly fantastic teaching video. I've seen Pete give a few lessons to golf pros but this is the best of them. Danny, I've watched countless videos from you - love the simple way you approach the golf swing - but this was like watching the master and newbie. Not in a bad way, but it shows how we all have things to learn and really just shows how unbelievably perceptive Pete is at seeing every part of a golf swing in real time. Loved it and keep up the great work!
Thank you Eric, plan on a follow up video this Saturday
It's so interesting watching a good golf coach bring given a golf lesson from an even better golf coach. Have learnt plenty from this vid. More like this please Danny 🙏 👍🏻
Glad you enjoyed it Steve
Very humbling to see a teaching professional golfer learning new tricks from another. Inspirational!
Thank you, always so much to learn
Hi Danny
Thanks for putting this video up. I came to this video from watching some of your other chipping videos.
It actually makes lot of sense now watching you with Pete in your lesson with him. I could see you were trying hard in your lesson which something I also do when being coached.
This actually makes your other chipping lessons make so much sense now. Many thanks again Danny for sharing this
Glad it helped Wayne, I loved being on the other side of a golf lesson
he's such a laid back guy but it was obvious you felt the pressure trying to do the drill correctly. It was pleasing to see someone with your ability feeling how an amateur feels when getting a lesson and struggling to implement the change
Thank you John, yes it was great to be on the other side of the learning process 😁
Glad you enjoyed it Tony
I think it’s cool to see an instructor better himself by another instructor of Pete Cowen’s level. Good stuff Danny.
Thank you, always open to learning
Great video! Bravo for putting yourself out there and I can attest, old habits are hard to break. Love when Peter says, ‘messing about’, totally changed my game! Less thinking, enables the natural mechanics to take over.
It really does Maria
That was some lesson. Glad to see Danny that you took a few goes to get the right action. I will sleep better tonight knowing I am not a dumb as I thought. 😀
Funny, sleep well Chris 😆. All the best
Tack!
🙏👌
I had great success initially with your “opening and closing a jar lid” swing thought, but had to abandon it because I kept skulling the ball across the green. After watching this video, I think it was because I was backing up instead of rotating and getting out of the way. Thanks for sharing!
Pleasure Nicholas, all the best
It's unbelievable how good your pitching gets by mastering this movement. The strike is so much crisper, and yes, you can tell when you've got it by the sound that is made. 2 thumbs up on this video.😊😊
Glad you enjoyed it
Thanks Danny, this is one of the best chipping lessons I’ve seen, really enjoyed it!
That’s awesome really happy to help
I watched this many times and it is still humbling. Thanks to both of you to encourage on practicing to find your swing at its better end
Really kind Anna, thank you
Fun fact: even psychologists talk to other psychologists when the pressure of the job gets to them. I appreciate this video for the information and your humility.
Thank you Neil 🙏
So I already benefited from your original pitching/chipping video, and this video takes it to another level. The idea of keeping legs pressed down initially, keeping butt of club closer on backswing, pushing the arm down and countering by pushing off with left leg to slide toe of club through (instead of hitting with the club face at ball) is awesome. I find it seems “easier to make better strikes” and more consistently too. My issue is falling back too but working on it and can’t wait to get better so I can take these principles to my full swing!
That’s awesome Robin
Well done Danny! Pete is a masterclass in the short game!
He is indeed
This has changed my approach to these shots and I had a bit of coaching in a group session on holiday where I was advised to loosen my grip too - the result is that I am still only using loft when I have to but now do it without fear and getting better contact and results, big thanks to Pete and yourself
Thank you happy to hear it helped you 👍
I’ve said this before but I have always chipped and pitched imagining hitting the ball with my trail knee. Works for me. Great to see two masters working together
Thank you Rua, all the best
Where’s the 2nd master 😀😀
@@shaunhale657 😆
Thank you for sharing this video Danny. You are my favorite golf coach. And your sharing of the session where you were coached is amazing. Lots of respect.
Thanks Tikko appreciate the feedback 👍
Absolutely loved this instruction from Peter Cowan, well done for getting him on your channel. I have had one round trying to implement his technique and the connection between ball, club and ground is great. Question, can you apply this technique to other irons?
Absolutely, I plan to create a series of follow up videos
What does he mean by put the pressure down? Like hitting it off the ground?
@@nikkiharrison7967 feel like you're pushing the clubhead into the ground under the ball. It creates the squeeze of the ball against the turf. I try to just "collect" the ball with the clubhead. Far too many people hit at the ball. That's what I think he was conveying.
