Something about this newcomer to the golf instruction game! You have a gift for teaching fo sho! I will use your videos exclusively this year. Let’s get me in the low 80’s consistently lol
Love it Michael.

Pull the bell rope. Or the toilet chain, for the older peeps!😂
This is one of the most comprehensive and well explained tutorial on the transfer from backswing to finish position I have seen. Not only did it confirm movements I make in my own swing but helped me make sense of things I am not doing but can easily implement. Thank you for being so thorough.
Great video Andy
I’ve been so fortunate to learn from Pete Cowen. I hope you enjoy. Leave a comment if you think this will help
actually the most helpful video ive ever seen and ive been in the youtube golf scene since well before you Cater went to Dubai. gold quality here
For me what you said about the shoulder working down towards the outside of the trail foot made such a big difference. Who wou'dve thought this little point is so key. I've tried this drill before, but only focused on the elbow going into the side of the stomach - sometimes it helped contact, sometimes not - now I understand how to do this drill correctly.
Yes i think shoulder is better as right arm isn’t a real ‘body move’ however works for some
This one video has transformed my game . At 73 i thought my game was going downhill. Instead i am now back to low 80s because i feel totally confident with my swing. Thanks Andy.
That’s tremendous, great feedback, and well done you 👊🏽👍🏽
Wow , I have spent months looking for a explanation like this , just goes to show how good a tutor you are Andy . Thank you, more like this please.
Glad its helped Pete
I’ve always struggled with the transition! So many videos out there but none of them really explain the sequencing or move like this! I just hit some irons in my shed after watching this video and it instantly fixed my early extension and boy was I hitting them crisp. Very keen to try this on the range with my driver as I always struggle, I cover the ball too much with my driver and either top it or hit low stingers, I feel like this is going to help immensely
Cheers
Awesome video Andy! For the first time I understand and can feel where the club should be from the top down.
I'm thrilled with the energy I can produce following your steps. It is greatly appreciated and thank you!!
Thanks Andy, made it sound simple
Great video, thank you for the demo.
Dude, I have never felt my shoulder turn in the downswing was correct because it would always seem too flat…now I know why. The way you explained it, my shoulders now feel a lot more compact in the downswing. Weird thing is, I now feel like I’m finally leveraging the weight of the club head from behind the ball, while my hands are naturally creating shaft lean. This was a key piece of information I needed. Thank you for sharing! I just subscribed to your channel.
Thank you John
You have upped your game lately Andy!
Thanks for all the great videos!
Superb thank you
This is the Stephen Dean "down" drill.
Thank you sir. Good stuff.
Lovely strike!
muchas gracias. la mejor clase. felicitaciones
Another great lesson, Andy! I always pick up something to apply to my game. Cheers!
Probably the best instruction I've seen in ages - really good and clear information with different feels to help understand. Loving your videos of late keep them coming 👍
Thank you, Glad it was helpful!
This is brilliant thank you so much
Yes Andy Ben Hogan said the down swing starts with the lower body!! Would you say then it's kinda both upper shoulder ! and lower! Body great lesson thanks Tom
Really good instruction. Thank you.
Excellent lesson Andy !! 🔥
Very good Andy, simple and understandable
That is an amazing tip!!! When you relate to club golfers I fall into this category. I need to work on this idea in trackman with my practice. THANK YOU. This makes total sense. Brilliant!!!!
Great explanation, perhaps the best I've had. Well done!
Glad it was helpful!
Brilliant instruction, Andy. Many thanks.....I will defo work on this over the winter!
Nice one Andy! Definitely going to try to get that feel to stop me throwing club out from top of swing
Oh my goodness, just brilliant. Thanks so much.
Best one yet Andy well done
Great 👍 thanks 🙏
Harvey Penik magic move. Old is new and new is old. Jim McLean talked about the slot and the 3 ways to get there and then lead knee turns towards the target, hip bump while the the upper body tilts a little with irons and a lot with driver and the hands drop down in sync with the bump and turn. This is a great video. I see a lot of my friends throw the hands at the ball. It’s impossible to play consistently with that death move.
Great demo' of the iron transition - that is something I really need to work on during the winter.
I can connect well with the driver but the iron game is in need of work.
Cheers
Great lesson drill video tips
Very correctly explained the body moment . 100%with you 👍
Very well explained, you make it all so clear, Andy! I will have to incorporate this "pump-drill" into my routine.
awesome sir!
I am a 12 Hcp and have been struggling with Consistency of control. This video has given me a singular thought of getting that rear shoulder over rear foot and has literally changed my game. I don't have to think about anything else and it's made my timing near autonomous. This is the only video that has fixed my game.
Thank you Andy
Awesome, happy to help
Excellent
Great instructional video can’t wait to take it to the practice area.
Thank you, hope it helps
Great job. Not many can explain Pete’s teachings well but you do. In my opinion it is the most efficient movement and most repeatable way to play golf. A little tricky to learn because it has to be sequenced correctly but it is actually easier than throwing the hands from the top like I was doing. The lowering with the wrist remaining flexed is the key move to free it up and go.
Great lesson Andy! Thank you for your detailed explanations! 😍👏
Glad you liked it!
Andy, Thank you so much for this. This will help me no end and i believe one of the last swing pieces I need. Great advice and thank you for sharing.
Awesome. Hope it helps
The video is excellent and since I've been applying the momentum, I've seen a great improvement. However, too often, bringing the elbow towards the abdomen makes me direct the ball to the left at the end of the movement. Marc-André
andy, i kinda learned this from some of pete cowens videos and this is helping refine the action. theres's snow on the ground now here in massachusetts but i clear an area in the yard and hit orange wiffle ball off a mat for practice. thnx for the help.
Thanks for the detailed explanation, it now makes a lot more sense to me the transition .
You're very welcome!
Really enjoyed that ... looking forward to practicing !
Thanks buddy
The best You Tube video on golf I have ever seen and god knows being a high handicapper I have looked at so many :) Brilliant stuff Andy, this video has brought my game on so much. Getting so much better contact and height now with my irons and driver from the moves on your lesson!
Love it John
Glad its all helping you
Agreed
Dear Andy, during the down swing, do you use arm power or only body rotation power?
great video
Such a concise breakdown of the hardest part of a golf swing! Can't wait to try this out on the Range tomorrow
Hope it works well for you
Andy great video
Another excellent video and something to work on out on the range. Desperately trying to become more consistent with my ball striking as 2 good shots are usually followed by a bad one, and more often it’s a fat one!
Well i hope this helps somewhat. If you want more detailed help then drop me a DM on the Skillest app
That's a good way of explaining the movement, thanks pal.
Thanks for the comment Martin
This makes a lot of sense. When I'm sending my irons left my swing thought to correct is that I'm pulling down on a chain to start the downswing
I have finally found Pete Cowen's translation.
That is one of the best explanations of the golf swing I’ve ever heard. How you explain that really resonates with me. I’m headed to Puerto Rico today, and hope to be on the course tomorrow. I’m going to be thinking of this drill and will report back on how it goes.thank you very much.
Thank you, glad it resonates and hope it works for you
Good explanation of how it should be done....I find the driver easier than irons....which I either hit fat (which varies 2 inches to 4/5 inches) or top the ball....if I manage to make reasonable contact shots are very high with poor distance...
One of the easiest transition videos to date that I have seen. trying to put it into practice, but still a away to go lol
Brilliant video thanks, question if you don’t mind! When do you recenter I may missed that part if I did sorry
Andy ,Sir that rear leg action is what Jack Nicklaus was taught to where He actually rolled His rear -right Foot to the inside .
Great instructional video Andy. Love how you break down, what some would deem a ‘complex’ golf move, into a simple to understand element of the golf swing. Or ‘The Move’! This is my next practice session at the range! :)
Awesome, thanks for the comment. I hope the practice goes well
Brilliant video Wish I knew this thirty years ago. Instruction was so bad in those days it was nearly impossible to get thsi kind of quality advice on the transition.
Tell me about it! I wish I knew this 20 years ago!!
I tried this at the range this morning and was pleased with the result with my 7 iron, but I din't get as good a result with the driver, there is still a lot of work for me to do with this drill, thank you for this lesson.
Thanks for sharing, keep it going
Fantastic video.
Thank you very much!
I had a revelation tonight at the range, stop trying to hit the driver differently to any other club!! And it worked! I set up driver with the fundamentals, ball at lead ankle, shoulder tilt, slow takeaway etc. But I was trying different swings, and tonight I spanked them dead straight and long! As a amateur who’s taken the game up after a hiatus due to frustration at my inconsistencies. I’ve finally got the fundamentals sorted due to the likes of yourself and others on TH-cam. I had to get grip sorted, stance, ball position etc etc. My game is as good as it’s ever been. My point is, these videos do wonders mate and cheers for all your content.
Awesome, glad the videos are helping so much. keep up the good practice and i'll keep the videos coming
this lesson offered up anuggent I had been missing during my time in study of Pete's swing building and that nugget is the trail leg knee bend. Your emphasis on the knee and explanation of results relating to improper knee action struck a cord and got me over a hump I was battling. I drilled the inward knee flex to the point it has now become a trigger to initiate the down swing . I feel this move begins the chain of events that create proper shoulder tilt during the down swing creating more meshing of upper and lower body allowing me to deliver the club face in position to allow for more efficient shaft lean and compression of the ball at impact. I have added approx 20 yds to my PW after only a few days of drilling this move...Thx mate
My pleasure, great work
Thanks.
You're welcome
Imagine pulling down on a bell rope....get that trail elbow brushing the side of body.....before the synchronised power release!
Nice one Andy 👍 😊
My pleasure 👍🏽
That f bomb almost came out at 8:36 haha, but great instructions thank you!
As an avid learner and golf geek you rarely come across a video with such clarity. Amazing job Andy 🙏
The movement of the right knee/hip is correctly described, the motion of the left knee/leg could be described a bit more accurately, even though demonstrated correctly with the driver. Source: On Learning Golf, Percy Boomer, 1941. When you throw a frisbee, you feel how the left hip should move; also when you imagine to 'throw' a heavy suitcase up above your head, like in a train. The left leg action starts earlier, the pelvis rotation is much tighter and the left leg sort of pushes the left hip more or less in a quarter circle behind you and the right hip takes the place of the left hip in a tight 'inside', almost straight motion. Anyway, better to read Percy Boomer, he is the expert; there is a bit more to it.
Highly recommend reaching out to Andy for coaching. He has made a huge difference in my game after coming back to the game after a 15 year break. Clear instruction and great drills I can do with just the club at home that translates to the course and my time on the driving range. Worth the investment if you want to improve.
Thanks User-yv4 👊🏽
Drills at home are so important and beneficial.
No ball, no outcome just movement drills
No idea if you do this on purpose, but when you’re talking about spine angle, the fact you have a dark zipper running down the front of your chest really helps to illustrate it 👍
i'm clever like that ;)
Hi Andy,
Thank you for this video. I am sure it will help me a lot with both Irons and Driver. Do you have a video on how to lower Spin with the Driver? I am currently reaching aprox 5.000 rpm's with driver which costs me quite significant loss of distance. Thanks.
Yes I have, this video is probably a good help or my previous driver one too
Hi @@andycartergolf, Just wanted to let you know. I worked a bit on the drills in this video at home and then went to the indoor practice facility. And my spin went down from the aprox. 5000 to between 1800 and 2400. Massive improvement right away. Thank you very much. This has immediately given me 25-30 metres more with my driver. Now I need to work on club-head speed to ramp it up even a bit more. Thanks again.
Do you still feel as the your leaving the club behind hands up when you transition from the top
Thanks Andy. Useful tips as per. Do you agree that the left arm would be straight and not chicken winging
Straight is ideal but some players need to flex a little
You talk about hitting down on irons, and up on woods - expanding on that: Have you had any students that do an okay job of hitting you on the driver, but are much too down with their irons? 8-9 degrees down based on Trackman and GCQuad (as opposed to 4 degrees that tour pro average)? Aside from ball position is there anything else you see that leads to being too descending of an angle of attack on irons?
Yes well the likes of Brooks Koepka hit down on driver.
But we coach to hit up to minimise spin and improve launch.
But to answer your question, you may need to look at weight distribution or club release timings
Andy, this is the spinning forearm drill in essence that we discussed in another video?
Yes that is correct
Great lesson. Just wondering do you have your stance open or closed with different clubs and are your shoulders aligned with your feet or perpendicular to your target line. I'm just referencing Ben Hogans chart for the feet. I'm not sure how my swing path should be . Thanks for all the great vids.👍
I have my feet and shoulders aligned together, generally pointing down the target line
Great video. Quick question: does the the trail shoulder move down towards trail toes or outside the trail foot?
I would say more the toes otherwise outside the foot you are in danger of being stuck behind yourself.
The focus needs to be how the right arm works down.
I have a video with Cowen out next Monday
Ah I always thought that dropping my arms to start the downswing. But when I drop it down, my wrist flattens, doesn’t hold the angle like you have demonstrated.
Love it mate. As you’ve seen over the years I’ve struggling with Casting, or ‘Fly Fishing’ as I call it at the top. This could seriously help me, coz I’ve never been able to cure this for over 10yd and it affects distance and strike. My fat shots are now named after ex girlfriends, as it varies depending how my t8ming is 😂😂😂
Youve never had lessons off me mate ;)
I can do this, until I get over the ball! Shoulder and hip moves to the ball, working diligently with alignment rod.
It is a fantastic video. Question. On a tee box. Using anything other than a driver, do you swing as if it were still the driver ?
Swing the club not the position of the golf course.
A right side crunch
Does this also apply to woods and wedges?
Absolutely 👊🏽
Did I understand you correctly that your weight in the backswing only gets to maybe slightly more on the trail leg?
It does ever so slightly but I wouldnt necessarily try and do it purposely in case you overload it
Hi Andy, what are the charges for the online class
£95 per month for 1 lesson plus unlimited support and 1 follow up session
you should do a Pete Cowen Series!
Like if you agree!🙂
Im filming with Pete soon
Aside from everything else, how mint was that tee box?
Class golf hole too
I wish I started golf 20 years ago
I wish I knew all this info 20 years ago!
Right now, it's colder than a mother-in-law's kiss here, however we'll be heading south next month. I look forward to implementing this process! Thank you.
i'm pretty sure i suck at this and need to sign up for skillest....
Come join me on Skillest and let’s sort your game out
well, no. things should not work in tandem. they should work as antagonistic opposites. swing coil has to increase in the start of the downswing. and, pulling down with the arms etc won't increase swing coil. the simple fact, really, is that there is no start to the downswing. a player should only think about swinging back. and, it is easy to prove this to yourself. if you grip the club with just your left hand, hold out to your left with the shaft in a 12 0'clock position, then swing back and stop at the top of your backswing. then recommence your backswing by pushing back with your wrist joint; and you will find that your left side reacts against your wrist joint by turning to the left. this increases coil in the downswing. the left side of the head plays its part, also. but, fundamentally speaking, the main focus is on pushing back with the wrist joint at the top of the backswing
This video explains why 99.99% of amateur golfers have never compressed a golf ball in their life. Who said golfers aren’t athletes???
They definitely are athletes and the more you learn the swing, the more you realise how good they are lol
You’ve got all the movements about right but they are all much too late in terms of timing. Moving left in the early downswing, moving the arms down as the body is moving down, moving the lower body across in the mid downswing is way way too late. The left leg/side should be beginning to extend to pull the right side and arms down to the ball in the downswing. Just like a throw. In your actual swing you time it correctly.
Thanks Mark
