Probably helped you to focus on process too and not outcome. Focus on outcome creates fear and either yips or a tentative stroke. Confidence is everything, however that is achieved; new wedge, new putter, new method ... whatever. Keeping it going is the challenge! 🤣

This is one of the best and most important lessons I’ve seen anywhere. Total game changer for me. I got so much out of this video I bought Dan’s book. This was probably the best chipping and pitching video i have ever watched, based on Dan fully explaining the follow through and the dropping of the head to start the swing. I would have never guessed that in my own practice. What a brilliant way to look at the short game as well. I will be purchasing the book for sure.
After hearing Dan on the podcast, and with ricks endorsement, I bought his book, read it in about an hour and half. while i would say the information wasnt ground breaking, or a secret, it was presented very well, no nonsense and really explains why youre doing the things your doing. worth the price of admission for sure.
It's a great book if like me you just don't know where to start and don't have any real feels. I watched a few of his IG videos before I bought his book and you can just tell from how Dan conducts himself he's a great coach.
This video was so incredibly helpful! A few days of practice using some of the suggestions the instructor made and immediately went from thinning it every time to a much more lofty chip. Thanks Rick for posting this!
I really enjoy these lesson videos with experts, it's so unique compared to everything else. Just from personal experience, but when I have a few sessions focusing on going slower and lighter that when I start working on my full swing again, I can really crank up the speed and I have way more awareness with my hands and body, and it feels so effortless and relaxed.

Just bought his book as well....and it is amazing! The chipping section taught in the video here is very well laid out in the book. Easy to digest and lots of checkpoints. But the section on pitching from 30-90 yards is FIRE! BEST explanation of the half wedge game I have EVER SEEN. He talks about how to use a trackman to get the right data so you can nail your numbers. It is amazing! Everyone needs to read it.
What a video Rick! I know this will help you a lot but I feel like this will help countless people, like myself, who had no real idea what we were doing with the short game. To have a detailed instruction video like this to reference is an awesome thing. Thank you!
WATCH THIS VIDEO.. The best lesson I have ever had. Played Saturday morning having watched this, no practice, shotgun start! Chipping was amazing, distance control a little off +/- 15ft but the contact was so consistent. Chunk/blade free!

I enjoyed the fact Rick is taking lessons to improve his own game and then will pass along the knowledge to other golfers. That's the spirit and what should golf be about. Thanks for your channel mate 🤌
This video has made a huge impact on my game. The last 5 rounds I've chipped so much better by implementing the lessons and my handicap has gone from 12 to 9.8.
Absolutely the best video I’ve viewed. Went to my backyard immediately after watching and applied the technique from video and what a difference it made . Thanks for sharing this video .
Without doubt this has been the best video lesson from an expert, the depth of his knowledge is immense and his style of teaching is easy to follow, I noticed that Rick didn’t keep his glove on when doing the bunker shots is that his normal? Also Rick it’s easy to configure your watch so the button is on the other side and doesn’t get pressed every time you swing
Best golf instructional video I have ever watched. Goes completely against what other instructors advise but makes complete sense. Hitting 5 inches behind the ball and still getting it up in the air! awesome.
This is probably one of the most valuable videos on short game (or any lessons genuinely) ever. So good to see how you ask question like most of us would.. really appreciate this content so much!!
This is the longest coaching vid I have watched from start to finish. Great watch, and what a fantastic teacher Dan is! I'll be keeping this for future reference!
I'm so glad that Dan's incredible short game coaching is getting the coverage that it deserves. Props to Rick for opting for the best coach and showcasing him to the golfing world.
I've just recently adopted this technique, and the feeling of amazement at how high and soft the ball comes off the club while "flipping" is hard to describe. Great video.
I play off 5 and my short game always saves me, but I found this so unbelievably insightful to understand why when im feeling a certain thing that the ball does what it does. This makes me want to get out on the course and just spend a couple of hours at the side of a green practising different shots!
Wow. Watched this three months ago when it first came out and loved it. Must've found 30 new insights this time around. I need to watch this about once a week.
I’m a +2 with a great short game. I often see my buddies who really struggle with a wedge and don’t know how to help them. This video is exactly what people need. DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE THE LAST 12 MIN UNDERSTANDING RELEASE OUT OF THE BUNKER. Amazing video. absolutely class
A big thanks to Mark! This video will be a huge help for my 14 year old son who has been bit by the golf bug! We hope to see you at The Open in a month when we make the journey across the pond from Seattle, WA!!!!!! It would be a treat to see you there!
Fantastic. I want to get on a plane and fly to see this fellow. He's a great teacher. Takes a difficult part of the game and breaks it down to make if possible for amateurs to achieve good results.
It’s a weird phenomenon. When my short game improves, I always see my long game lacking at the same time. I‘d like to have them both on fleek just once in my lifetime 😂
I always think of the scene in the simpsons where they're trying to hide rubbish under a carpet...you push it down in one area and in bulges it up elsewhere
I’m the same way - the weirdest part is when my short game is good, I score the best. But there’s days when my driver and irons are on and my score will get ruined with bad play around the greens. I shot a PR the other day, and I hit 4 fairways, 7 GIR, but I was getting up and down and no 3 putts. And it felt like a bad round before I added up my score
This is what I call a golf instruction video. Really good communication between Dan and Rick. Hopefully I can use the ideas to improve my chipping, which is very one dimensional. Would love to see similar videos for driver etc. Well done Rick for giving us this insight.
Very interesting Rick thanks for sharing. Would love to get a short game lesson. You have access to the best in the world where a guy like me can’t afford or have no access.
I'm a 15 handicap who - like Rick - struggles with chipping. I watched this yesterday ... been to practice range today ... and ... WOW !!! This is, by quite some way, the BEST instruction video I've ever seen. A big thumbs-up and thankyou to Dan and Rick from me. 👍👍👋👋👋
I have Bobby jones on dvd from 1931 instructional video for all clubs, his most lofted club was a niblick basically a 9 iron, he could spin it on a dime or make it run out, in a bunker he could hit low and run or high and stop in the place it hit. They walked on the ball buried and he hit 9 to couple feet. Those days they chipped with several clubs. Some of this looks very similar to how bobby pitched in certain situations. In a match play the stymie rule was in and he chipped over another ball into the cup. Those days you couldn't lift clean and place a ball anywhere even on the green.
One of the best lesson I have seen. I think just seeing one person give the lesson is good but having you and the teacher makes a difference for me. Thank you!!
Rick this is one of your very best YT offerings to date, I have found my chipping game in much the same place as you started and being able to watch you rapidly progress to much better fundamentals under such expert tutelage was a treat and extremely helpful.. I cant wait to get back out and work on what I saw. Thanks from Oregon, USA
Very enjoyable and informative- Hard to get the feel with few practice swings. Amazing how top teachers are assisting utube guys and they show same struggles as weekend golfers… Appreciate the insights and wisdom that change takes time.
Thank you so very much , ive been in the garden for five days prior to watching. This answered all the questions , gave me the path back to my natural game and possibly saved my marriage . If you ever need anything just ask 👍
Absolutely Wonderful! The short game is so important to lowering scores and putts. I've been practicing these different releases for over a month and finally took it to my home course. No three putts and fewer two putts in the last four outings. TY!
Amazing and super thorough video! Thank you Rick and Dan for the best and most informative chipping content on TH-cam. The way Dan teaches makes you feel immersed in the lesson. I honestly was watching laying down on my couch and found myself getting up 10 times throughout the video swinging my 54 degree wedge as if I was there. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Really amazing to share this, thank you so much! I can't wait to get out and practice this stuff. Hats off to Dan Grieve as well for allowing to film and share.
This is the third time I've watched this video all the way through since it's been uploaded. This might be one of the best (If not the best) lessons on TH-cam. I've implemented things from this lesson carefully a little bit at a time each time I go to my local range/putting green to practice my short game. I have closed my groupings to the pin from various distances away by about 3-4 feet and I am much MUCH more consistent from different lies. I broke 85 for the first time and I owe it to this video and most of all your channel Rick! Mr. Grieves you are a legend!!
Probably the most informative video you've made, @RickShielsPGA! Thank you, and thanks to Dan for sharing his expertise with you and us all. Good luck taking it out onto the course, Rick!
Rick - THANK YOU! I TOTALLY relate to your story - I'm 61 yrs old, an 8 hc (single figures since I was 15-yrs old) and have had the yips for many, many, many, many years. When I was a kid I was great at chipping and now have absolutely NO IDEA what I'm doing and have lost total confidence. In fact, my mind goes blank!! A mixture of fear and total embarrassment. Bunkers? Happy as a clam. Anywhere near the green? Double bogie! I'm going out to play this afternoon and will put the "stock chip" process into practice and stick with it - pivot around front leg/hip, grip light and swing sloooooow. Wish me luck!
Love Dan, been a follower for years , his explanation of short game is second to none, he's changed my game , like Rick my short game was the weakest part of my game costing me shots every round
As a 18+ handicap golfer, this has really opened my eyes to chipping. I work everyday to find the best ways to improve my game. I can’t thank you guys enough for sharing these lessons publicly.
Best short game lesson I have ever seen. I have been a 3, and played for 40 years, and I don't think I ever really used bounce or knew how much I could hit behind the ball if I did. Forgiving!
This is one of the best instructional videos I've seen, in an area I've struggled with on and off for a few years. Very similar to Rick, got very twitchy on certain lies, mainly uphill lies to a green or if the green is above me. My short game used to be solid, then something occurred on the course that gave me a yippy sensation in certain spots. Went out to try a few bits today, mainly the longer, slower swing and trying to get to Release 1, as I can be quite drivey too. Then tried keeping my left arm tight against me (the holding the arm and thumb on chest drill) and getting to Release 2, on a tight pin... this was working well! Just finding time to practice in between work, but promising signs! Thanks to Rick and Dan!
As a lover of short game this is one of my favourite videos you've ever made. Dan is clearly a master and a great teacher. Thanks for sharing, what an experience
The level of knowledge and brilliance here is phenomenal. But not to be overlooked is Rick's ability to understand and implement the minute changes being made from moment to moment. I have learned so much! Thank you to Rick and to Dan for providing this clinic for us!

Amazing instructional vid, thanks Dan. Practised short game this morning using his ideas and setups, and was hitting my 52 higher and softer than my 60 used to go!
Rick, thanks for not editing out the learning. As I attempted to apply this info, watching him coach you through was very helpful for me to check if I was doing some of the things he coached you on. This is one of the most beneficial golf videos I have ever watched. I was able to apply most of this pretty quickly and there was an instant improvement. The cool thing about this technique is the not so great shots are really quite good. Halfway through my practice session, I realized my new expectation was actually trying to make the shots and not just get them close. This was an amazing change in consistency for me. I filled the cup up the first practice session and cannot wait to take this to the course.
Just an fyi. Took these tops to the chipping/pitching practice facility today and oh my g•d on freaking point. I couldn’t ever pitch but now feeling incredible. I’ve watched a million videos and none have ever seemed to help. But this…. Freaking B-I-N-G-O was his name oh. Love it. Loved it so much went to my local park later after dinner and was just knocking them from 52*,56*,58* (I don’t run a 60* to scared, but maybe not anymore). I’d say 10% were strugglers, but the rest… unbelievable. Awesome awesome thank you.

This video has made a huge impact on my game. The last 5 rounds I've chipped so much better by implementing the lessons and my handicap has gone from 12 to 9.8.
What a great demeanor Dan has. Both of you really. Thank you for this video!!
Rick I think this is one of the best videos you've ever blessed us with!!! Thank you thank you thank you!!!!!
This is one of the best coaching videos I have seen on TH-cam. Eye opening and couldn’t take my eyes off the screen.
42:11 is probably the best chip shot ever recorded on this channel and he just did it while talking to Rick
That was buttery smooth
LOL, just watched it, you're correct, poetry in motion.
He showed there levels to this haha Rick was so impressed with that one.
Just casually put it closest to the whole kinda dicking around lmao
It's like he was plucking a harp
I am a +5 and my short game is much better than yours! And I would hit my drives 20 yards past you.
@@blakerh So why are you here watching a short game coaching video...Seve?
A big thanks to Mark! This video will be a huge help for my 14 year old son who has been bit by the golf bug! We hope to see you at The Open in a month when we make the journey across the pond from Seattle, WA!!!!!! It would be a treat to see you there!
Would be interesting to see Rick play the same par 3 course he played as a kid. Especially after this lesson on his short game
Would not be interesting at all
@@nachocheez9690 yes it would. Señorita
@@tunechi__5624nah it wouldn’t
Fantastic. I want to get on a plane and fly to see this fellow. He's a great teacher. Takes a difficult part of the game and breaks it down to make if possible for amateurs to achieve good results.
What an absolute masterclass!! Rick this will easily be one of your most viewed videos this year, what a legend
This is gold dust. Never have I come across anything like this. I be watching it many times. Thank-you both 💃💥
It’s a weird phenomenon. When my short game improves, I always see my long game lacking at the same time. I‘d like to have them both on fleek just once in my lifetime 😂
Practice properly so
I always think of the scene in the simpsons where they're trying to hide rubbish under a carpet...you push it down in one area and in bulges it up elsewhere
You're preaching to the choir.
What make one thing good it makes another bad
I love the fact that after all this time Seve keep being the short game standard
That was so great of him to put so much of his time and teaching “secrets” out there for us. I am buying his book!
Changed his life, unfortunately not his golf 🏌️
Very enjoyable and informative- Hard to get the feel with few practice swings. Amazing how top teachers are assisting utube guys and they show same struggles as weekend golfers… Appreciate the insights and wisdom that change takes time.
What makes Dan the worlds best? Is there an official ranking of chipping coaches? How is this defined?
My guess is he eats in the best restaurant in the world, dates the most beautiful girl in the world and drives the best car in the world
@@rafaelmartinvannostrand2084 Impressive
I bought Dan's book about 3 months ago. Its an absolute game changer, this video has helped bring it to life. Thanks to you both.
TY!
This is a fantastic lesson and the way Dan explains everything makes a lot of sense and easy to put into practice . Thanks RICK and DAN
One of my favourites of all your videos. Well done! Love your honesty and transparency.
Luv this. Live in N Carolina, went out yesterday and did two hrs practice. Could not believe how great this felt, best lesson I have seen. Than You!
A really good teacher enables a good student to perform. It was great to have the teacher become the student and allow us along for the enlightening journey
The best lesson on the chip swing and bunker swing that I've ever seen. Thank you (and him) for sharing.
Best video ever on the channel Rick. Genuinely a free short game lesson from a clearly expert tutor, delivered in a way that's easy to understand. Superb.
I just keep rewatching this over and over! Need as much help as possible round the green. Thank you ⛳️
Genuinely one of the best videos I’ve seen. I’ve taken on board what was shown, and seeing an immediate difference in the quality of my chipping and short pitching during practice.
Can’t wait to get this out on the course.
Thank you so much for sharing this. I have seen a lot of golf content from a lot of people and this was without doubt the best lesson I've ever seen. Great coach, felt like I was there with you. Fantastic, content.
I appreciate you Rick! I've recently started to play golf again after having a break from my teenage years and I've spent some time on your channel, and I love your energy and how humble and giving you are as a person. Keep doing what you do :)
Best short game clinic I’ve seen. Absolutely brilliant. What a teacher.
Ragazzi, che bella lezione.!!!! Thank you both for this excellent lesson.
I am a 3 handicap that has been suffering with the chipping "yips" for about 3 years now. I suffered from the same short swing and pulling too much on the handle without letting the bounce work. It has gotten better lately due to some good instruction, but this is by far the best video I have ever seen on the subject!! I feel like I just got a $200 lesson for free. Thanks so much. Normally I don't like hour long instruction videos, but I may watch this one several more times. Perfect job!
Absolutely love this Rick! Watched it from beginning to end twice! Having seen the methods explained the way they were is classic. Would love to see more like this. Brilliant!
Have to what a great genuine chap he was . And very informative information and something well worth practicing brilliant video
Probably one of the most insightful golf video lessons I’ve ever seen. Totally immersive, quality! Thanks Rick.
Daniel is an absolute legend. What a great lesson. Possibly the best I've ever seen online
i'm a teacher and I would love to have this guy's calm and soft but very assured and confident demeanor when he talks to his students. it feels so low pressure.
Been teaching and using this technique for years, good to see it from a high level coach.
