    A couple weeks ago I made a video called "Testing LIQUID MIRROR Paint....In A Bottle?! Does This Work??" and it went down well! So since you asked for it - Stuart Semple has so many art products to try including "worlds best", today I am trying the most colorful watercolors in the world from Culture Hustle!
    This is where they are from;

      I don’t think this set does, since most of the paints and pigments he sells are sold individually (not as a set like this). Also I’m not sure how pigment numbers work exactly, but I believe he and his team specifically formulated their pigments to be more concentrated and longer lasting than anything else out there (except his Blackest black, which is ever so slightly less black than vanta black, but far less expensive and more accessible). I don’t know if I actually answered your question, but me point is, you should check out his website

    Oh dear, yeah, no, I definitely don't believe the "professional" claim - they'd have standard names, pigment information, and lightfastness ratings if they were. The website claims their lightfastness is rated as "equivalent" to ASTM I, which indicates that they've not actually been tested according to the standard ASTM system. And, again, no pigment information - I know they've actually refused to provide that information when asked, which is quite sketchy and extremely odd tbh.
    You'd be better off buying a set of Pretty Excellent paints at half the price - I've seen them as low as £14 on Amazon UK, though I think I bought my set for £20. They at least have standard names. Or you could get a set of Van Gogh, White Nights, or Paul Rubens paints.
    There's nothing about this palette that indicates that it's in any way of better quality than something like Pretty Excellent tbh. That's not to say it's necessarily a _bad_ set, but the marketing seems quite misleading to me...

    For a normal person they may be colorful but as a watercolor artist they are not at all so much pigmented to me . If you compare them with any professional watercolor brand just any they are so much better. Even the van gogh watercolors which you have are more pigmented. They are just one of those palletes which are made for just hobby or for cards mainly for crofters as many companies do. The fact that they used their own names as compared to traditional names is the most legit proof that pigments were not used.Most probably are made from dyes as we can see from swatches which are maybe little light fast. But for the price they are just overpriced for me. Paul Ruben's pretty excellent watercolors( student range though as van gogh) are just so colorful lightfast pigmented and only about 20 dollars( just for reference)
    They will look bright when wet but when they dry they will lose all the shine and look just normal as other crafty palletes.

      @Kyomiibrown 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Agreed. The website claims: “ Lightfastness: excellent (equivalent to ASTM I)” without giving any background to pigment numbers used or tests done. I can’t see any professional watercolour artist buying into these - however, they seem fine for beginners/hobbyists/crafters etc and a good price at £39.99 though there are other student grade sets available for similar cost that give full pigment and ASTM lightfast information.

    • @ave_rie
      @ave_rie 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Not sure if it is indeed the same. I have a set that has the same exact colors, layout, and case. I paid just around 20 dollars for it from a local Alibaba reseller site (I live in Asia). This seems like a private-labeled product where a brand without product expertise will just ask a manufacturer to change the name and outer packaging but the product is the same. No shade, this is a common practice and isn’t necessarily bad. But I don’t think this can be considered as a true “watercolor” especially for artists. It’s a pain to use this to learn watercolor techniques. BUT It’s great for just simple coloring as it is slightly more opaque. Probably between watercolor and gouache but not as high quality or as versatile. 😊

    🧐 That looks like a Sakura koi travel set, aTokyo Finds watercolor set, or a SeamiArt/Superior watercolor set, even the swatches look the same.
    Also, is it just me or is that “non-profit” part is kinda dubious.

    • @WestaHell
      @WestaHell 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't have any Sakura koi or Tokyo Finds set, but I have a SeamiArt set and the Palette, and even though the colors are just as vibrant, the quality and the formula are definitely not the same. With real high quality watercolors I have tried, if you put a ton of it in one spot, after drying, it will be shiny. The paints in the Palette do this. The SeamiArt however will be matt, and if you rub it, it will give off some paint. Plus it's kinda hard to layer. (I'm not saying that the SeamiArt is bad, cause the paints are very pigmented, but quality doesn't end there. The way I use watercolors is not exactly how they are meant to be used, so these issues are probably personal, but it does reflect on the quality that I can use one however I want, but have issues with the other. And the price sadly reflects the quality. )

    Where is the pigment info? I could not find it on their website. I don't mean to be negative, but I am skeptical of products that claim high quality without providing things like pigment info on their products (specially for watercolor paints). At first glance, this looks like a cheap paint palette, like the koi watercolor palette. I am just wondering if the packaging came with any pigment info because it is very important to know this information (for example for archival properties) before you call your product artist grade and not student grade (specially for the price). Also, looking at their website I am skeptical if everything they claim is true, since companies usually sell product to make a profit, and it is hard to believe that an art company (of all places) has the money to just sell paint without profiting even a little. I would also ask that because I would feel bad if you promote a product without knowing the full details and without knowing if the product claims are true (the company would be at fault for being shaddy, not you btw).
    Am I the only one? I also know that Chloe is not the most familiar with watercolor paints, but there are reasons for them to cost an eye and a leg, since the pigments and the manufacturing of paint is expensive, specially if they are really making small batches and only selling a few palettes.

    • @jendubay3782
      @jendubay3782 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Oh I agree with you wholeheartedly. This looks like sakura koi with an extraneous box around it. They have also refused to release the pigment info And they probably are doing it “with no profits” because paying salary to your workers and ceo isn’t considered profit. So all the profit is probably just salary.

    • @niknaksbyec
      @niknaksbyec 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      This definitely a shady product claiming to be professional artist grade product.
      Even cheap watercolors now a days give out pigment information. The price tag is way too high for something you dont know what you're getting.
      My guess is, this is not marketed for Professional artist, this is marketed for people that dont know much about watercolors 😬
      Nonetheless the painting is beautiful, any skilled artist can make any medium (student/artist grade) look flawless 👌🏻

    • @jamiew6326
      @jamiew6326 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yes! 100% agree. Pigment and light fastness info is super important if you want to actually keep any watercolor or sell it. I’ve found that the quality of the work really does go up with the value of materials used, but for my kids, this would probably be great! Except, the price for a sketchy palette would keep me away.

      Exactly what I said when I first saw this set. And a professional set without pigment info? Seriously? Artist quality means that you can sell the paintings you make with it. How are you going to sell something if you do not know what pigments you used, which means that you cannot guarantee that your painting will not fade within a couple of months or a year? Had Stuart Semple marketed this as a fun set for beginners and hobbyists, that would be ok, but this is not a professional palette. And this thing costs 45 euros! 45 euros can easily buy a set of watercolors that will be be suitable for professional work.
