    The reason why I asked if “glitch” was a character is because the grammar on the actual hack made it appear as though it was a name. It said “how to draw glitch” not how to draw “a glitch” so I wasn’t sure if it was a character from a show that had glitches and they referred to as “glitch” hopefully that clears it up! I know what a glitch is 😅

    For the bead string pulling, they probably used pouring acrylic, its acrylic paint mixed with a pouring medium so you can do acrylic pours, making the paint runnier. The same as the base black coat. Your first one looks really pretty though, the second one too, but I prefer the colours of the first.
    Also resin doesn't usually like having things in it that have moister inside in, leaves would be better dried, you can get some weird reactions with moisture in resin.

    The watermelon "hack" is basically just a version of a style of painting called one stroke painting. You should do a video where you attempt a one stroke painting using acrylic. It's a really fun technique to use and is great for painting flowers or anything where you need a good blend or a gradient. (It works really well for sunsets too.)

    • @patriciahamel5674
      @patriciahamel5674 4 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      @@Pixels_and_Points I don't think that she invented it, because it's a practice seen in traditional folk art from a few different countries and can be seen in some very old paintings, but she definitely brought it into the modern era and popularized it. There are some videos of her doing demos here on TH-cam that are super informative for anyone interested in the technique.

      I was watching her draw those circles on the t-shirt and was thinking, "WTH is she drawing circles on that shirt???" lol
      However, had she used a sharpie marker, she could have salvaged the shirt by pouring isopropyl alcohol over the black pen marks and made it look like it was tie dyed that way… I helped out with Vacation Bible School when my daughter was about 9 or 10 and we made "tie dyed" t-shirts with the kids… we had them draw what ever they wanted on their t-shirts using sharpie markers…nonce they were finished with them, then we took 91% isopropyl alcohol and poured it over the sharpie marker drawings… the alcohol caused the sharpie ink to "bleed," making the shirts have a Tie dyed effect… not only could the kids make custom designed shirts, it was also far less MESSY!!!!

      Emma Young ALL resins require a respirator. You only have one set of lungs, don’t mess them up thinking low odour resin (those are usually marketed as ‘less toxic’) are not harmful too. All resins in their uncured and active states are toxic. It is only no longer toxic once it is fully and correctly cured. Please go buy a respirator with carbon filters rated for VOCS. It should be noted that just because you can’t smell the fumes, doesn’t mean they are not there! Again, please go buy a respirator.

Maybe not 100% perfectly, but I have two part resin, and the lids always feel like tree sap and are difficult to get off without getting yourself dirty (though I have gloves now). • @livebot6354
    @livebot6354 4 ปีที่แล้ว +85

    I am not a professional but...some things that you should keep in mind while using resin are:-
    1) always mix hardener and resin thoroughly .... even though u think it's mixed complete
    2) always avoid cavities on the surface you are pouring the resin on if possible...(like you covered the whole leave with glue and prevented the leaves' edges from poking out from the wood surface as it might have created cavity for air bubble )
    3) always ready the instructions of the resin bottle
    4)some resin are exothermic and radiate a lot of heat in the surroundings if poured in a lot of quantity
    5) once poured vibrant the surface gently avoiding any spills to help the air bubble to come upward on the surface and then using lighter or a small blow torch to pop the bubbles on the surface to get a good transparent finish.
    6) always always cover hands with latex gloves to prevent skin contact.

    • @raynalangdon8158
      @raynalangdon8158 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Also, you shouldn't use fresh plants or flowers in resin-only dried. Fresh ones will eventually start to break down, essentially they'll rot inside of the resin and look terrible.

    Lots of people have already given great tips about resin but here's some more:
    Water doesn't mix well with resin, which is probably why the original hack used fake leaves. Basically it can "overactivate" the resin, cause an accelerated chemical reaction, and overheat and cause a lot of bubbling.
    The "weight" of the resin doesn't matter, if the leaves weren't glued down they float. A lot of people who work with resin will often do things in multiple pours, or use other strategies to secure an object to a spot.
    Also lots of people use a heat gun or vacuum chamber to get rid of bubbles.
    Wear gloves and work in a well ventilated area when working with resin!!! Resins can be very volatile and bad to breathe or get on your skin!
    There are MANY types of resin for different purposes, I'm no expert on this, but Peter Brown's YT channel "Shop Time" has used many types of resins due to differences in clarity, work time, resilience, etc.

    • @nostrobothnia

    Resin is tricky but fun! I was worried yours was going to leak out the back of that tray, it would have been good to seal the whole bottom with modge podge then paint w/e an let that all dry before adding it. You should use a blowdryer/ lighter to pop any air bubbles on the top so you have a nice smooth surface. With my resin projects I have these huge plastic tubs to store my projects while they cure, keeps any pet hair out and contain that chemical smell.
    You could honestly buy another bottle of resin and do a layer on top of what you did to smooth out imperfections, its kinda rad in that way. Loved the vid!

    Okay, because I work with resin too, let me help you out here.
    While your resin is still wet, you can wipe it away with isopropyl alcohol to clean it. Soap and water will not work, that'll just get stickier.. Otherwise, you have to wait until it's cured after 24 to 48 hours (depending on your resin's instructions), then maybe you can peel it up, but I dunno how well that's gonna work for your desk. I work over a silicone mat for that reason, makes cleanup way easier if I spill (which I do, I'm very clumsy). However, the way you filmed this has me a bit concerned because it wasn't clear whether or not you mixed the hardener and resin (parts a and b) together before you poured it on the piece. It looked like you were putting each chemical separately one at a time, and I'm not sure if that would actually cure. The idea is that you mix the two parts together for two minutes (or more depending on your directions) then pour it into your piece evenly and slowly within the 40 minute work time. You can employ a lot of techniques to make it smoother, like letting the bottles (while closed) rest in a hot water bath, or double mixing, which is pouring it from one cup into another to ensure it thoroughy mixes (my EasyCast resin actually requires that you do this, so I'm in the habit of doing it with all of them). Also, using a lighter overtop while it's still wet can help reduce bubbles in the final piece.
    For more information, I'd advise looking into some of NerdECrafter's older content, she's the main channel I learned from. I also learned a lot from BunnieDIY, Ayeshashasha!, and Rybonator, who all work with both UV and 2 part epoxy resin.
    Otherwise, this was a really entertaining video. Some of these hacks looked fun, and I'm tempted to give some of them a try in the future. ^^ I wonder if it would work to use a string of beads instead of a pull chain for that one painting technique, that could be interesting.

    Regarding the acrylics, perhaps they used acrylic pours?
    As in mixing acrylic paint with a pouring medium, resulting in a very shiny, flowy paint, and the colors don't mix! Much like how the canvas was extremely shiny in the video.
    Usually we like, use acrylic pours to make those messy marble paintings lol
    Edit: the same effect cant really be gotten by just watering acrylics down fndnd

      Which is why I always wear gloves from before opening the bottles right through until I'm done touching anything to do with the uncured resin (some recommend double layering gloves but I find that more of a hassle than a help) and put down either a silicon mat or something like a bin bag (though I find the resin tends to stay wet on the latter long after the piece is dry) anything that will protect the desk and is easily cleaned away.

    Resin tips: the mod podge also sealed the bottom of the wood. Useful for porous materials.
    Dry plant matter first! It can react with the resin over time, browning the resin and the material. Silica gel (like you get in the little pouches in gift boxes when you buy them) can be used for this.
    A little does not go a long way. You'll probably need more than you think. You can figure it out by filling the area with water and using that to see how much resin you'll need by volume. Add a bit more to account for shrinkage.
    To anyone who got this far, you can find plenty of videos online! Artsymadwoman (I think that's what it is) has loads and she works with flowers and whatnot all the time. Rybonator is a good one for the geekier side, making dice and miniatures with a 3D printer.

    They all were very interesting. For the Tie-dye use some black fabric paint to cover the lines. on the Watermelon art technique look up Donna Dewberry, she has this painting system where you use different strokes but have 2-3 colors on a brush to paint with. It's really cool. On the bead string thingy, I think you need to use that paint for paint pour art. Your tray is okay. I don't know what is wrong with it other than you said the leaves were sticking out. If it's bubbles then you need to take a torch to it to GENTLY pop them. There are a few videos on that too. I forget which one goes over step by step how to do resin. Thank you for sharing Chloe. You're a real trooper ♥♥♥
