I've never heard anyone say "you could probably get it cheaper at Michael's" before 🤣🤣🤣 They mark everything way up to make up for the 40% coupons they slam out weekly.
I once went to a popular art store chain called Blick Art Materials and saw a limited edition Copic Sketch marker set for a really good price. The next week I went to Michael's and happened to notice they had the same set with a 75% markup. Even with a coupon, it would have been cheaper to go to the specialty art store. Ever since then, I lost a lot of respect for Michael's. I knew they charged more for things, but I wasn't aware of how bad it was.
@@BriannaJones329 Yeah, Michaels is more a craft store that happens to sell art supplies. For instance, they have good yarn prices and scrapbooking, etc...and they are always having sales. It's great if you don't' have access to an art supply store locally though and It's decent for certain things, like their sketch pads are marked up but not a crazy amount and they frequently have buy one get one 1/2 off on them and other art supplies so it can come out cheaper. Or for stuff that is rarely on sale, like Jane Davenport's stuff, the coupon is great for that because you don't really find it cheaper elsewhere. I got her Mermaid Markers for $17 with a 60% coupon.
The Amazon issue happens all the time. I’ve reported at least 10 - 15 items where the reviews are for a different things and they’ve used an old product code. If you find anything with 5 stars, I highly recommend reading the reviews and not just believing the stars on the front screen.

tbh I'm no studytuber, just an enthusiast, but I find for my style of college note-taking that the tombow twintones are fabulous, particularly for headings and diagrams. both the broad and fine tips are sturdy, but the plastic does wear down and the nib does soften eventually if you use them in a particularly heavy-handed daily capacity like I do, lol. I got the brights and pastels sets, and A) about 6 of the rainbow set they have out can be purchased at (at least my local midwestern us) walmart plus B) if you use one color more than the others/lose one/etc. you can actually order single pens in the color you want from jetpens or from the tombow website itself! just wanted to s/o a product i actually like that made its way in among these disasters, eek, sorry chloe!

Those watercolor pods look a lot like the set I tried from Artist's Loft (which were terrible, I might add.) But I'm curious if it felt like chalk once dried. However, I admire your fortitude and the way you soldiered on even when things weren't exactly going your way. It's a good thing you shared this. I had watched a vid Safiya Nygaard did where she bought clothes through the shop tab. When I looked myself I wasn't wowed by anything. I'll stick to shopping online the normal way
the shop option on Instagram used to be really good and gave options to a bunch of different places both big name and small business but now its kind of weird and hard to use unless you know exactly what you are looking for and it only really gives you options on people you follow,
@@caitlinfren5783 a lot of "buy on Instagram" aren't scams. I follow a few big and small businesses that allow you to buy from Instagram instead of having to go to their store. One art brand i know has this option is tombow.
It's quite a problem on Amazon that sellers sometimes "borrow" reviews from other products that they sell to boost the rating because otherwise they get buried way back on like...page 13 and struggle to sell the product!
I use those exact watercolour paints myself as a very very new watercolour user and find them pretty good. I see why more experienced artists would prefer better ones though! Great video. Would love another one!
I picked up a trick from other artists i watch here on TH-cam that has worked for me and those kind of watercolor pans. If you spray them with water and let them sit for a few minutes, it loosens a lot of the paint and pigment. It worls great for me
Random. I want to see Chloe trying to make watercolours from scratch- like trying different recipes with powdered pigments, gum arabic, honey, corn syrup, maple syrup? glycerine, or whatever. Some experimental things. I think that would be fun to watch.
I actually have that big paint pod set! I LOVED it! It got me into watercolors, and it's still something I use to this day :). It's a really nice set, at least to little 11 year old me lol

I literally have that exact watercolor pan. I used to use it a lot at summer camp and I made lots of cool stuff. I actually just saw it today when I was going through my stuff. The reason I know it's the same is the variation of yellows under the white in the corner and it has that weird tab thing on the back. Legit have that exact one. Lol Tbh though I actually kinda like it. It's definitely FAR better than the dollar store ones and way more colors. I used it on coloring pages, it does dry semi-opaque on top of the black outlines, but for just regular stuff it's actually not bad. Surprisingly pigmented and the black is really really good. I did some trees with it and it was great (now it has a line shaped indent cause I was using a liner brush lol) It dries down matte so you can use fineliners on top cause some of the cheap ones dry shiny and sticky almost. Overall, I definitely recommend it. It's obviously not professional quality, but seriously, it's actually really good. (Also, yeah the lid has a tendency to come off. But I just use it as a palette!)
The shop tab is definitely a mixed bag, but as someone who runs a small business and sells through Instagram and Facebook, I'm kinda curious to see what all they end up doing with it! Thanks for giving it a test run :D
I still use Apple Barrel. I have used them since 9th grade. I graduated in July from 12th grade and they are still well. At walmart they are pretty cheap each bottle though a pack or two would be good if you paint alot.
I hate that the paper and markers didn't work together very well. But I love the painting you showed us at the end! The colors looked really vibrant and lovely.
I'd be interested in seeing you do this again but with products that aren't from big/well known brands. A lot of the people I've seen say instagram shop is good was because it could help smaller shops get more customers but this video showed the complete opposite basically
I like Tombo markers but they are water based so when you use them with water colors they bleed like hell. I would definitely recommend using them for bigger areas of a painting like you did at the end and then using alcohol based markers to go in with finer details. But you drawing at the end is sooo cute!

That watercolor paint set is the same one my last job used for the kids birthday parties. Hella chalky but fun for all the kids I had to supervise. Fun for me too when I did drops of water and then dropped the paint in.

If you want decent cheap watercolour Prang is a good option because they are semi moist cakes and don’t have that chalky, transfer prone texture that most cake water colours do, and while prang doesn’t have as many colours they mix really well and are closer to working like student grade paints than chalk cakes, I use them all the time for colour comes and I love them
I had the chalky watercolors when I started to get into watercolor. They are ok for beginners. I ended up hating them and got some different, more creamy, watercolors and just use the lid of the chalky watercolors as a pallet. Works really well for my acrylic paints too. They just peel right off.
Walmart and 5 Below both carry that exact watercolor paint pod set for $5... I have one and I love the colors. I use it all the time, it's about time I restock my watercolors!! 😝
I'm actually pretty happy about those water colors, there's a store kinda close to my area where they cell that exact watercolor set for five dollars and I never got them because I thought they were gonna be crap. I think I'll actually get them next time I go since five dollars for that seems really good.

I literally have that exact watercolor pan. I used to use it a lot at summer camp and I made lots of cool stuff. I actually just saw it today when I was going through my stuff. The reason I know it's the same is the variation of yellows under the white in the corner and it has that weird tab thing on the back. Legit have that exact one. Lol
Tbh though I actually kinda like it. It's definitely FAR better than the dollar store ones and way more colors. I used it on coloring pages, it does dry semi-opaque on top of the black outlines, but for just regular stuff it's actually not bad. Surprisingly pigmented and the black is really really good. I did some trees with it and it was great (now it has a line shaped indent cause I was using a liner brush lol) It dries down matte so you can use fineliners on top cause some of the cheap ones dry shiny and sticky almost. Overall, I definitely recommend it. It's obviously not professional quality, but seriously, it's actually really good.
(Also, yeah the lid has a tendency to come off. But I just use it as a palette!)

I still use Apple Barrel. I have used them since 9th grade. I graduated in July from 12th grade and they are still well. At walmart they are pretty cheap each bottle though a pack or two would be good if you paint alot.

I'd be interested in seeing you do this again but with products that aren't from big/well known brands. A lot of the people I've seen say instagram shop is good was because it could help smaller shops get more customers but this video showed the complete opposite basically
I like Tombo markers but they are water based so when you use them with water colors they bleed like hell. I would definitely recommend using them for bigger areas of a painting like you did at the end and then using alcohol based markers to go in with finer details. But you drawing at the end is sooo cute!

That watercolor paint set is the same one my last job used for the kids birthday parties. Hella chalky but fun for all the kids I had to supervise. Fun for me too when I did drops of water and then dropped the paint in.

If you want decent cheap watercolour Prang is a good option because they are semi moist cakes and don’t have that chalky, transfer prone texture that most cake water colours do, and while prang doesn’t have as many colours they mix really well and are closer to working like student grade paints than chalk cakes, I use them all the time for colour comes and I love them
I had the chalky watercolors when I started to get into watercolor. They are ok for beginners. I ended up hating them and got some different, more creamy, watercolors and just use the lid of the chalky watercolors as a pallet. Works really well for my acrylic paints too. They just peel right off.
Walmart and 5 Below both carry that exact watercolor paint pod set for $5... I have one and I love the colors. I use it all the time, it's about time I restock my watercolors!! 😝

I'm actually pretty happy about those water colors, there's a store kinda close to my area where they cell that exact watercolor set for five dollars and I never got them because I thought they were gonna be crap. I think I'll actually get them next time I go since five dollars for that seems really good.

Your painting looked lovely had to scroll back and pause to read Disney sign sorry I listen to you as I paint on Saturdays it’s become a tradition for me.
