The biggest thing about my art is that I strive for perfection so much that I forget to experiment and remember that this is for my pleasure and for me to keep improving. This video has given me lots of great ideas and Im super inspired to just go try some new stuff out. If it works it works, if it doesn't it doesn't!
I'm a brazilian whriter and certainly will make use of this video to draw the map of my world, it will get life! For you, the only thing i can say is: Thanks!
Started making an eye ball and shaded it in with alchohol markers, when I took a step back it looked like an island surrounded by water with more land surrounding it. A superimposed treasure map was just the finishing touch it needed. You helped me achieve this vision and I can't wait to frame it and enjoy it forever now!👍❤ big thumbs up and Thankyou for sharing your time and talent!
Wow! This is soooooo good. I've always been too intimidated to try drawing a map but your breaking down of all the steps definitely made it more approachable! Going to give it a shot
Thank you. I am an ESL teacher. The class is learning about reading/interpreting different types of maps. Final assignment is to draw a fantasy map with story. My class will enjoy your video. Thanks again.
Using these videos with my Year 5 class, drawing a map of Cornucopia from the book, The Ickabog. I can't believe how much their maps levelled up after watching a few minutes of this and your symbols video. Amazing work mate!
There are a lot of fantasy map making videos and JP Coovert is not too loud and he is not to Quiet, he is also interactive with his viewers in the videos
Man I must say I just stumbled upon the video containing instructions for the Tolkien map and I am hooked. The drawings are beyond beautiful. I will definitely use some techniques for the map of my story!
Hey! Love your work and I see you’re also a fan of retro games. Have you ever done a redraw of the original Zelda map? I’ve been trying to find one forever. Thanks.
Those videos are so great! It's been helping me with my campaign and I've been helping my friends campaign too. It has also been such a great relaxing therapeutic exercise for me. I'm dealing better with my depression and panic attacks with exercises like this. Thank you so much for your work!
Jeesh ok I haven't attempted any drawing since... well... last century. Your vids are really helping me to get a grip on the visual component of being a DM. Also born and raised in Cincy.
Really digging your enthusiasm. Takes me back to my college days jamming in the art labs with classmates and then later with the community arts programs. Never loose that energy, Brother.
My friend recommended me to watch your video and I’m so grateful she did. I’m planning on my first fantasy novel and was trying to draw a map for my fantasy world. Your video and tips help a lot! Thank you so much 😊
Great Video - you explained the whole process and this is very important. Often the process starts at a blank paper (and everybody know how scary a blank paper can be), you begin to draw and it doesn't work out, so you are frustrated in no time. So important to be patient and think about what youre going do! Thank you for sharing this!
I always love on these fantasy maps those parts of the continent where there is an island chain or an assembly of islands somewhere. I always think ''Í want to go here and see what is on each and every one of these islands even if it's just some plants or brushes'' to me this is always an experience I still end up remembering later on in almost any game.
I've been watching your videos for the last hour, and I can't get more impressed on how CLEAN your lines are. It makes your art pop so much. Great job, dude!
I know I'm very late, but I am studying to become an art teacher and this seems like an awesome thing to do with my students when the time comes! I will most definitely use this for my ttrpg sessions too. Thank you for the very easy to follow tips and tricks! You inspired me :)
Love your approach to mapmaking! You make it look so easy and your explanations take away all the fear of just try. I’m planning ob starting my own campaign, as soon as we’re allowed to play in person again and meet up with more than one more household again. Thank you for your videos!
I've been watching through your map videos and I am SO INSPIRED.... I have some projects started and I'll make sure to tag you on Instagram when they are ready ❤
I'm just about to start a fiction fantasy book and wanted to take from the Hobbit and game of thrones series and have maps . I've looked everywhere and out of 2 dozen or maybe 3 this was the best map drawing video I found I'm so subscribed now I will check out more because this was Amazing!!!!!!! Thank you JP Covert your awesome Man.
Little tip for weathering paper before drawing the map: soak the paper in black tea and hang it up to dry. Amazing video, im gonna try this for my campaign...
I love your teaching style and attitude it makes people like me who sometimes doubt their own skill really have the confidence to try without the fear of failure so thanks for being awesome
As someone who is also from the Queen City I appreciate using our city for inspiration 😂 I’m actually currently in the process of worldbuilding a Chronicles of Darkness setting in Cincy
This is an amazing video. I'm a Fantasy Author, currently writing my second series, and I've just designed the map. Instead of hiring an illustrator, or having my Publisher bring it to life, I really wanted to have a pop at it myself this time. This video has inspired me to do so. Thank you, sir.
Stuff you post is so great! I think showing players maps of cities, continents, dungeons helps them imagine the world, environment's without drowning them in a ton of verbal details. Wish we could play D&D one day at the same table! :D
I just spent 2 hours drawing a map with a huge island in shape of "🖕" as a birthday card for our DM, with all the players names integrated inside the locations xD Thank you so much for all the hints in the video!!
One thing that I like to do is add squares (or a graph I suppose) over the map, with each square representing a day's travel. Helps keep player travel a bit more accurate, and if you're like me you can always break the 'rules' a bit and jump them ahead a day or two if you ever get bored of your players doing nothing but walking for 30 minutes.
I'm writing a book and got lost with how the world is supposed to look like.. I'm afraid of misplacement so I figured have to draw the map first.. thanks for this man
So awesome! This is why I got into making maps myself. It’s just a conglomeration if super simple drawings that when all out together creates such a pleasing end product! You also have a knack for the font, that’s my weak point right now lol.
Thanks! Think of the words just like the other elements of the maps. You already know all the symbols, just gotta keep them a consistent width and height!
That looks great! Im going to be running curse of strahd and want to make a more authentic looking map for my players. Will definitely use these techniques and might burn the edges to give it a rustic look
WOW! This is made with such careful attention to detail! It's a lot cleaner than my maps. The erasing really makes a difference; that white space is super crucial to helping make the landscapes and pen details pop. Just to let you know, I actually love composing musical themes for OC's, ranging from Celtic, orchestral to epic battle music. I find that music can really help a character come to life and complement their visual presentation. Let me know if you ever need music for a character or project!
I did make a few maps before but they wasn't good so I just did different versions of them to see which is better. This video will help me a lot to make the final one to see if I like that one or not.
i learnt absolutely loads from your video 🙌🙌 thank you so much …. in fact i drew my map i had in my head as, as you were going through the steps x this is what you tube is all about
Acabo de encontrar tus videos, siempre quise encontrar información sobre como hacer mapas de esta forma, ya sea para fantasía o simplemente para hacer mapas reales a este estilo de fantasía y antiguos, gracias por compartir tu conocimiento.
I've seen alot of maps on TH-cam, trying to refresh myself on the techniques to use after a few years hiatus as a DM, and this one is by far the best render yet. I can't even see any tangent lines to drive me crazy :)
“You’re not writing the letters, you’re drawing them.”
Damn, that’s some hippy Druid-level wisdom right there; I like it.
Same is true for calligraphy: your drawing letters, not writing them. :-)
Wow!!
Bob Ross: here we put a big happy letter.... And maybe this letter has a little friend.... Because we all need a little friend
@@ericdpeerik3928 Well, the first is gonna be a capital letter, so it indeed gets little friends. :)
I have crappy handwriting. I decided years ago that I was better off "drawing" my letters
This video is 3 years old and I just learned that lettering isn't writing, it's drawing.
Friggin.
Thank you.
that map is worthy to be placed in a frame and set upon the wall for all to see. Nice job.
It is so lovely seeing someone talking about a topic that they are genuinely interested about.
keep up with the good job.
The biggest thing about my art is that I strive for perfection so much that I forget to experiment and remember that this is for my pleasure and for me to keep improving. DOOOOO ITTTTTT!!!
WHY ARE WE YELLING
@@Veran42 YELLING IS FUN
@@chuck2703 THATS A VERY GOOD POINT

Me: 😂😂😂
Your humility is awesome. You're a truly excellent teacher as well. Thanks for your content!
Wow! This is soooooo good. I've always been too intimidated to try drawing a map but your breaking down of all the steps definitely made it more approachable! Going to give it a shot

Man, I keep coming back to this video. It's fun to watch, satisfying, and just really, really good for some reason XD
You're the Bob Ross of fantasy maps.
It's not the video we needed it's the video we deserve
13:50 i got a heart attack when you did that
I just love watching you draw maps! It really inspires me to help with the one I'm doing for a book I'm writing. Thank you!
Ooh writing, i like making stories and small books even though im only 11 what's yours about and what is the name of it😊😊😊
Why on Earth is this video so freaking satisfying?!
I could watch you draw maps all day long.
Using these videos with my Year 5 class, drawing a map of Cornucopia from the book, The Ickabog. I can't believe how much their maps levelled up after watching a few minutes of this and your symbols video. Amazing work mate!

WOW! LOVE THIS! I’m going to show this to my young students, for fun project to go with studying Tolkien and the Hobbit. 👏🤩👍
I love your map and your technique! Our older son has drawn a map and we can improve it with your technique, thank you very much!
This is brilliant. I am the least artistic person on the planet but I am inspired to give this a go.
JP - Love how excited you are about everything you share! Really inspiring!
There's no other "how to draw" that excites you! This work is amazing. I'll try to draw it too. Thank you for letting me know!
Your voice is very relaxing to listen to, I told this to my girlfriend and she’s jealous 🤣 Great video man! Your art style is amazing to me!
Hah!
Lol
I like so much his pronunciation, i'm not a native English speaker, and i can understand almost everything he says
This video helped me make a map of my local bush that I explored and found cool land marks

I'm very happy that I found you here. You helped me a lot to draw Map's for my homebrew setting for D&D. Best wishes from germany.

He's right, you don't have to be good at drawing to make a good map. I can't draw at all, and this has helped me make some pretty sweet maps

Very Good Job! Thank you for the teaching,I needed it!😆
Is it weird that I find his voice really relaxing
I think the distinction you’re defining is the difference between a map and chart. Maps are to be looked at, charts are to be worked on.
